1. യഹോവ ഏലീയാവെ ചുഴലിക്കാറ്റില് സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തിലേക്കു എടുത്തുകൊള്വാന് ഭാവിച്ചിരിക്കുമ്പോള് ഏലീയാവു എലീശയോടു കൂടെ ഗില്ഗാലില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു.

1. And it chanced when the LORD would take up Eliah to heaven in a whirlwind, that Eliah and Eliseus were going from Gilgal.

2. ഏലീയാവു എലീശയോടുനീ ഇവിടെ താമസിച്ചു കൊള്കയഹോവ എന്നെ ബേഥേലിലേക്കു അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. എലീശാ അവനോടുയഹോവയാണ, നിന്റെ ജീവനാണ, ഞാന് നിന്നെ വിടുകയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവര് ബേഥേലിലേക്കു പോയി.

2. And Eliah said to Eliseus, tarry here, I pray thee, for the LORD hath sent me to Bethel. But Eliseus said: as surely as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And when they came to Bethel,

3. ബേഥേലിലെ പ്രവാചകശിഷ്യന്മാര് എലീശയുടെ അടുക്കല് പുറത്തുവന്നു അവനോടുയഹോവ ഇന്നു നിന്റെ യജമാനനെ നിന്റെ തലെക്കല്നിന്നു എടുത്തുകൊള്ളും എന്നു നീ അറിയുന്നുവോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അതിന്നു അവന് അതേ, ഞാന് അറിയുന്നു; നിങ്ങള് മിണ്ടാതിരിപ്പിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

3. the children of the Prophets that were at Bethel came out to Eliseus and said to him: knowest thou not how that the LORD will take away thy master from thee this day? And he said, I know it too, hold your peace.

4. ഏലീയാവു അവനോടുഎലീശയേ, നീ ഇവിടെ താമസിച്ചുകൊള്ക; യഹോവ എന്നെ യെരീഹോവിലേക്കു അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അതിന്നു അവന് യഹോവയാണ, നിന്റെ ജീവനാണ, ഞാന് നിന്നെ വിടുകയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവര് യെരീഹോവിലേക്കു പോയി.

4. Then said Eliah to Eliseus: tarry here a fellowship, for the LORD hath sent me to Jericho. And he said: as surely as the LORD liveth, and as surely as thy soul liveth, I will not leave(forsake) thee, and so they went to Jericho.

5. യെരീഹോവിലെ പ്രവാചകശിഷ്യന്മാര് എലീശയുടെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു അവനോടുയഹോവ ഇന്നു നിന്റെ യജമാനനെ നിന്റെ തലെക്കല്നിന്നു എടുത്തുകൊള്ളും എന്നു നീ അറിയുന്നുവോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു; അതിന്നു അവന് അതേ, ഞാന് അറിയുന്നു; നിങ്ങള് മിണ്ടാതിരിപ്പിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

5. And the children of the Prophets that were at Jericho came to Eliseus and said unto him: art thou not ware that the LORD will take away thy master from thee this day? And he answered: I know it also, hold your peace.

6. ഏലീയാവു അവനോടുനീ ഇവിടെ താമസിച്ചുകൊള്ക; യഹോവ എന്നെ യോര്ദ്ദാങ്കലേക്കു അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; അതിന്നു അവന് യഹോവയാണ, നിന്റെ ജീവനാണ, ഞാന് നിന്നെ വിടുകയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവര് ഇരുവരുംകൂടെ പോയി.

6. And Eliah said to him: tarry I pray thee here, for the LORD hath sent me to Jordan. But he said: as surely as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And so they went both of them together.

7. പ്രവാചകശിഷ്യന്മാരില് അമ്പതുപേര് ചെന്നു അവര്ക്കെതിരെ ദൂരത്തു നിന്നു; അവര് ഇരുവരും യോര്ദ്ദാന്നരികെ നിന്നു.

7. And fifty men of the sons of the Prophets went and stood in sight afar off, as they two stood by Jordan.

8. അപ്പോള് ഏലീയാവു തന്റെ പുതപ്പു എടുത്തു മടക്കി വെള്ളത്തെ അടിച്ചു; അതു അങ്ങോട്ടും ഇങ്ങോട്ടും പിരിഞ്ഞു; അങ്ങനെ അവര് ഇരുവരും ഉണങ്ങിയ നിലത്തുകൂടി അക്കരെക്കു കടന്നു.

8. And then Eliah took his mantle and wrapped it together and smote the water, and it divided itself, part the one way and part the other, and they two went over on the dry land.

9. അവര് അക്കരെ കടന്നശേഷം ഏലീയാവു എലീശയോടുഞാന് നിങ്കല്നിന്നു എടുത്തുകൊള്ളപ്പെടുംമുമ്പെ ഞാന് നിനക്കു എന്തു ചെയ്തു തരേണം? ചോദിച്ചുകൊള്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അതിന്നു എലീശാനിന്റെ ആത്മാവില് ഇരട്ടി പങ്കു എന്റെമേല് വരുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. And as soon as they were over, Eliah said to Eliseus, ask what I shall do for thee yer I be taken away from thee. And Eliseus said: let me, I pray thee, have thy spirit double in me.

10. അതിന്നു അവന് നീ പ്രയാസമുള്ള കാര്യമാകുന്നു ചോദിച്ചതു; ഞാന് നിങ്കല്നിന്നു എടുത്തുകൊള്ളപ്പെടുമ്പോള് നീ എന്നെ കാണുന്നുവെങ്കില് നിനക്കു അങ്ങനെ ഉണ്ടാകും; അല്ലെന്നുവരികില് ഉണ്ടാകയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. And he said: thou hast asked a hard thing. Nevertheless if thou see me when I am taken away from thee, thou shalt have it so: if thou do not, it shall not be.

11. അവര് സംസാരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു നടക്കുമ്പോള് അഗ്നിരഥവും അഗ്ന്യശ്വങ്ങളും വന്നു അവരെ തമ്മില് വേര്പിരിച്ചു; അങ്ങനെ ഏലീയാവു ചുഴലിക്കാറ്റില് സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തിലേക്കു കയറി.

11. And as they went walking and talking: behold, there came a chariot of fire and horses of fire and put them asunder. And Eliah went up in the whirlwind to heaven.

12. എലീശാ അതു കണ്ടിട്ടുഎന്റെ പിതാവേ, എന്റെ പിതാവേ, യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ തേരും തേരാളികളും എന്നു നിലവിളിച്ചു, പിന്നെ അവനെ കണ്ടില്ല; അപ്പോള് അവന് തന്റെ വസ്ത്രം പിടിച്ചു രണ്ടു ഖണ്ഡമായി കീറിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

12. And Eliseus saw and cried: O my father, O my father, the chariot of Israel and the horsemen thereof, and saw him no more: and therefore took his own clothes and rent them in two pieces.

13. പിന്നെ അവന് ഏലീയാവിന്മേല്നിന്നു വീണ പുതപ്പു എടുത്തു മടങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു യോര്ദ്ദാന്നരികെ നിന്നു.

13. And then he took up the mantle of Eliah that fell from him, and went back again and stood by Jordan's side,

14. ഏലീയാവിന്മേല്നിന്നു വീണ പുതപ്പുകൊണ്ടു അവന് വെള്ളത്തെ അടിച്ചുഏലീയാവിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ എവിടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവന് വെള്ളത്തെ അടിച്ചപ്പോള് അതു അങ്ങോട്ടും ഇങ്ങോട്ടും പിരിഞ്ഞു. എലീശാ ഇക്കരെക്കു കടന്നു.

14. and took the mantle of Eliah that fell from him, and smote the water and said: where is the LORD God of Eliah where is he? And when he had smitten the water it divided part this way and part that way, and Eliseus went over.

15. യെരീഹോവില് അവന്നെതിരെ നിന്നിരുന്നു പ്രവാചകശിഷ്യന്മാര് അവനെ കണ്ടിട്ടുഏലീയാവിന്റെ ആത്മാവു എലീശയുടെ മേല് അധിവസിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവനെ എതിരേറ്റുചെന്നു അവന്റെ മുമ്പില് സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു.

15. And the children of the Prophets of Jericho which saw from afar, said: the spirit of Eliah doth rest on Eliseus, and went against him and bowed to the earth unto him.

16. അവര് അവനോടുഇതാ, അടിയങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ അമ്പതു ബലശാലികള് ഉണ്ടു; അവര് ചെന്നു നിന്റെ യജമാനനെ അന്വേഷിക്കട്ടെ; പക്ഷേ യഹോവയുടെ ആത്മാവു അവനെ എടുത്തു വല്ല മലയിലോ താഴ്വരയിലോ എങ്ങാനും ഇട്ടിട്ടുണ്ടായിരിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അതിന്നു അവന് നിങ്ങള് അയക്കരുതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

16. And they said unto him: see, there be among thy servants fifty lusty men: let them go and seek thy master: happily the spirit of the LORD hath taken him up and cast him upon some mountain or in some valley. And he said: send not.

17. അവര് അവനെ അത്യന്തം നിര്ബ്ബന്ധിച്ചപ്പോള് അവന് എന്നാല് അയച്ചുകൊള്വിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവര് അമ്പതുപേരെ അയച്ചു; അവര് മൂന്നുദിവസം അന്വേഷിച്ചിട്ടും അവനെ കണ്ടെത്തിയില്ല.

17. Nevertheless yet they lay upon him, till he was a shamed, and said: send, and they sent fifty men which sought him three days and three nights, but found him not.

18. അവന് യെരീഹോവില് പാര്ത്തിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവര് അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് മടങ്ങിവന്നു; അവന് അവരോടുപോകരുതു എന്നു ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു പറഞ്ഞില്ലയോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

18. And they came again to him, for he tarried at Jericho. And he said to them, did I not say unto you that ye should not go?

19. അനന്തരം ആ പട്ടണക്കാര് എലീശയോടുഈ പട്ടണത്തിന്റെ ഇരിപ്പു മനോഹരമായതെന്നു യജമാനന് കാണുന്നുവല്ലോ; എന്നാല് വെള്ളം ചീത്തയും ദേശം ഗര്ഭനാശകവും ആകുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

19. Then the men of Jericho said to Eliseus: behold the city standeth pleasantly as my lord seeth, but the water is nought and the ground barren.

20. അതിന്നു അവന് ഒരു പുതിയ തളിക കൊണ്ടുവന്നു അതില് ഉപ്പു ഇടുവിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവര് അതു അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു.

20. And he said: bring me a new cruse and put salt therein. And they brought it to him.

21. അവന് നീരുറവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു അതില് ഉപ്പു ഇട്ടു. ഞാന് ഈ വെള്ളം പഥ്യമാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു; ഇനി ഇതിനാല് മരണവും ഗര്ഭനാശവും ഉണ്ടാകയില്ല എന്നു യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

21. And he went unto the spring of the water and cast the salt in thither, and said thus sayeth the LORD: I heal this water, there shall not come henceforth either death or barrenness.

22. എലീശാ പറഞ്ഞതുപോലെ ആ വെള്ളം ഇന്നുവരെ പഥ്യമായിത്തന്നേ ഇരിക്കുന്നു.

22. And the water was healthsome ever after according to the saying of Eliseus which he spake.

23. പിന്നെ അവന് അവിടെനിന്നു ബേഥേലിലേക്കു പോയി; അവന് വഴിയില് നടക്കുമ്പോള് ബാലന്മാര് പട്ടണത്തില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു വന്നു അവനെ പരിഹസിച്ചു അവനോടുമൊട്ടത്തലയാ, കയറി വാ; മൊട്ടത്തലയാ, കയറി വാ; എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

23. And he went from thence up to Bethel. And as he was going up in the way, there came little lads out of the city and mocked him, and said to him: go up thou bald head, go up thou baldhead.

24. അവന് പിന്നോക്കം തിരിഞ്ഞു അവനെ നോക്കി യഹോവനാമത്തില് അവരെ ശപിച്ചു; അപ്പോള് കാട്ടില്നിന്നു രണ്ടു പെണ്കരടി ഇറങ്ങിവന്നു അവരില് നാല്പത്തിരണ്ടു ബാലന്മാരെ കീറിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

24. And he turned back and looked on them and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came two Bears out of the wood and tare forty two of the boys.

25. അവന് അവിടംവിട്ടു കര്മ്മേല്പര്വ്വതത്തിലേക്കു പോയി; അവിടെനിന്നു ശമര്യ്യയിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോന്നു.

25. And he went from thence to mount Carmel, and from thence went again to Samaria.
