1. ഈ കാര്യങ്ങളും ഈ വിശ്വസ്തപ്രവൃത്തിയും കഴിഞ്ഞശേഷം അശ്ശൂര്രാജാവായ സന് ഹേരീബ് വന്നു യെഹൂദയില് കടന്നു ഉറപ്പുള്ള പട്ടണങ്ങളെ നിരോധിച്ചു കൈവശമാക്കുവാന് വിചാരിച്ചു.

1. Now after these things and this true-hearted work, Sennacherib, king of Assyria, came into Judah, and put his army in position before the walled towns of Judah, designing to make his way into them by force.

2. സന് ഹേരീബ് വന്നു യെരൂശലേമിനെ ആക്രമിപ്പാന് ഭാവിക്കുന്നു എന്നു യെഹിസ്കീയാവു കണ്ടിട്ടു

2. And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come for the purpose of fighting against Jerusalem,

3. പട്ടണത്തിന്നു പുറത്തുള്ള ഉറവുകളിലെ വെള്ളം നിര്ത്തിക്കളയേണ്ടതിന്നു തന്റെ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരോടും വീരന്മാരോടും ആലോചിച്ചു; അവര് അവനെ സഹായിച്ചു.

3. He took up with his rulers and men of war the question of stopping up the water-springs outside the town; and they gave him their support.

4. അങ്ങനെ വളരെ ജനം ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂടി; അശ്ശൂര്രാജാക്കന്മാര് വന്നു വളരെ വെള്ളം കാണുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു എല്ലാ ഉറവുകളും ദേശത്തിന്റെ നടുവില്കൂടി ഒഴുകിയ തോടും അടെച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.

4. So they got together a great number of people, and had all the water-springs and the stream flowing through the land stopped up, saying, Why let the kings of Assyria come and have much water?

5. അവന് ധൈര്യപ്പെട്ടു, ഇടിഞ്ഞുപോയ മതിലൊക്കെയും പണിതു, ഗോപുരങ്ങളും പുറത്തു വേറൊരു മതിലും കെട്ടിപ്പൊക്കി. ദാവീദിന്റെ നഗരത്തിലെ മില്ലോവിന്റെ കേടും പോക്കി, അനവധി കുന്തവും പരിചയും ഉണ്ടാക്കി.

5. Then he took heart, building up the wall where it was broken down, and making its towers higher, and building another wall outside; and he made strong the Millo in the town of David, and got together a great store of all sorts of instruments of war.

6. അവന് ജനത്തിന്നു പടനായകന്മാരെ നിയമിച്ചു. അവരെ നഗരവാതില്ക്കലുള്ള വിശാലസ്ഥലത്തു തന്റെ അടുക്കല് ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂട്ടി അവരോടു ഹൃദ്യമായി സംസാരിച്ചു

6. And he put war chiefs over the people, and sent for them all to come together to him in the wide place at the doorway into the town, and to give them heart he said to them,

7. ഉറപ്പും ധൈര്യവും ഉള്ളവരായിരിപ്പിന് ; അശ്ശൂര്രാജാവിനെയും അവനോടു കൂടെയുള്ള സകലപുരുഷാരത്തെയും ഭയപ്പെടരുതു; നിങ്ങള് ഭ്രമിക്കരുതു; അവനോടുകൂടെയുള്ളതിലും വലിയൊരുവന് നമ്മോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടു.

7. Be strong and take heart; have no fear, and do not be troubled on account of the king of Assyria and all the great army with him: for there is a greater with us.

8. അവനോടുകൂടെ മാംസഭുജമേയുള്ളു; നമ്മോടുകൂടെയോ നമ്മെ സഹായിപ്പാനും നമ്മുടെ യുദ്ധങ്ങളെ നടത്തുവാനും നമ്മുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ ഉണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; ജനം യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹിസ്കീയാവിന്റെ വാക്കുകളില് ആശ്രയിച്ചു.

8. With him is an arm of flesh; but we have the Lord our God, helping us and fighting for us. And the people put their faith in what Hezekiah, king of Judah, said.

9. അനന്തരം അശ്ശൂര്രാജാവായ സന് ഹേരീബ്--അവനും അവനോടുകൂടെയുള്ള സൈന്യമൊക്കെയും ലാഖീശിന്നരികെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു--തന്റെ ദാസന്മാരെ യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹിസ്കീയാവിന്റെയും യെരൂശലേമിലെ സകല യെഹൂദ്യരുടെയും അടുക്കല് അയച്ചുപറയിച്ചതു എന്തെന്നാല്

9. After this, Sennacherib, king of Assyria, sent his servants to Jerusalem (at that time he was stationed with all his army in front of Lachish), to say to Hezekiah and all the men of Judah in Jerusalem,

10. അശ്ശൂര്രാജാവായ സന് ഹേരീബ് ഇപ്രകാരം പറയുന്നുനിങ്ങള് യെരൂശലേമില് നിരോധം സഹിച്ചു പാര്പ്പാന് എന്തൊന്നിലാകുന്നു ആശ്രയിക്കുന്നതു?

10. Sennacherib, king of Assyria, says, In what are you placing your hope, waiting here in the walled town of Jerusalem?

11. നമ്മുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ നമ്മെ അശ്ശൂര്രാജാവിന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു വിടുവിക്കും എന്നു യെഹിസ്കീയാവു പറഞ്ഞു വിശപ്പും ദാഹവുംകൊണ്ടു ചാകേണ്ടതിന്നു നിങ്ങളെ വശീകരിക്കുന്നില്ലയോ?

11. Is it not Hezekiah who has got you to do it, causing your death from need of food and water, by saying, The Lord our God will give us salvation out of the hands of the king of Assyria?

12. അവന്റെ പൂജാഗിരികളും യാഗപീഠങ്ങളും നീക്കിക്കളകയും യെഹൂദയോടും യെരൂശലേമിനോടും നിങ്ങള് ഒരേ പീഠത്തിന്നു മുമ്പില് നമസ്കരിച്ചു അതിന്മേല് ധൂപം കാട്ടേണം എന്നു കല്പിക്കയും ചെയ്തതു ഈ യെഹിസ്കീയാവു തന്നേയല്ലോ.

12. Has not this same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, saying to Judah and Jerusalem, Give worship before one altar only, burning offerings on it?

13. ഞാനും എന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാരും അതതു ദേശങ്ങളിലെ സകലജാതികളോടും എന്തു ചെയ്തുവെന്നു നിങ്ങള് അറിയുന്നില്ലയോ? ആ ദേശങ്ങളിലെ ജാതികളുടെ ദേവന്മാര്ക്കും തങ്ങളുടെ ദേശങ്ങളെ എന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു വിടുവിപ്പാന് കഴിഞ്ഞുവോ?

13. Have you no knowledge of what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of every land? were the gods of the nations of those lands able to keep their land from falling into my hands?

14. എന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാര് നിര്മ്മൂലനാശം വരുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്ന ജാതിയുടെ സകലദേവന്മാരിലുംവെച്ചു ഒരുവന്നും തന്റെ ജനത്തെ എന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു വിടുവിപ്പാന് കഴിയാതിരിക്കെ നിങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്നു നിങ്ങളെ എന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു വിടുവിപ്പാന് കഴിയുമോ?

14. Who was there among all the gods of those nations, which my fathers put to destruction, who was able to keep his people safe from my hands? and is it possible that your God will keep you safe from my hands?

15. ആകയാല് യെഹിസ്കീയാവു നിങ്ങളെ ചതിക്കരുതു; ഇങ്ങനെ നിങ്ങളെ വശീകരിക്കരുതു; നിങ്ങള് അവനെ വിശ്വസിക്കയും അരുതു; യാതൊരു ജാതിയുടെയോ രാജ്യത്തിന്റെയോ ദേവന്നും തന്റെ ജനത്തെ എന്റെ കയ്യില് നിന്നും എന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നും വിടുവിപ്പാന് കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ല; പിന്നെ നിങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവം നിങ്ങളെ എന്റെ കയ്യില് നിന്നു വിടുവിക്കുന്നതു എങ്ങനെ?

15. So do not be tricked by Hezekiah or let him get you to do this, and do not put any faith in what he says: for no god of any nation or kingdom has been able to keep his people safe from my hands, or the hands of my fathers: how much less will your God keep you safe from my hands!

16. അവന്റെ ദാസന്മാര് യഹോവയായ ദൈവത്തിന്നും അവന്റെ ദാസനായ യെഹിസ്കീയാവിന്നും വിരോധമായി പിന്നെയും അധികം സംസാരിച്ചു.

16. And his servants said even more against the Lord God and against his servant Hezekiah.

17. അതതു ദേശങ്ങളിലെ ജാതികളുടെ ദേവന്മാര് തങ്ങളുടെ ജനത്തെ എന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു വിടുവിക്കാതിരുന്നതുപോലെ യെഹിസ്കീയാവിന്റെ ദൈവവും തന്റെ ജനത്തെ എന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു വിടുവിക്കയില്ല എന്നിങ്ങനെ അവന് യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയെ നിന്ദിപ്പാനും അവന്നു വിരോധമായി സംസാരിപ്പാനും എഴുത്തും എഴുതി അയച്ചു.

17. And he sent letters, in addition, to put shame on the Lord, the God of Israel, and to say evil against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other lands have not been able to keep their people safe from my hands, no more will the God of Hezekiah keep his people safe from my hands.

18. പട്ടണം പിടിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവര് യെരൂശലേമില് മതിലിന്മേല് ഉള്ള ജനത്തെ പേടിപ്പിച്ചു ഭ്രമിപ്പിപ്പാന് യെഹൂദ്യഭാഷയില് അവരോടു ഉറക്കെ വിളിച്ചു,

18. These things they said, crying out with a loud voice in the Jews' language, to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, with the purpose of troubling them and putting fear into them, so that they might take the town;

19. മനുഷ്യരുടെ കൈപ്പണിയായ ജാതികളുടെ ദേവന്മാരെക്കുറിച്ചെന്നപോലെ യെരൂശലേമിന്റെ ദൈവത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു സംസാരിച്ചു.

19. Talking of the God of Jerusalem as if he was like the gods of the peoples of the earth, the work of men's hands.

20. ഇതുനിമിത്തം യെഹിസ്കീയാരാജാവും ആമോസിന്റെ മകനായ യെശയ്യാപ്രവാചകനും പ്രാര്ത്ഥിച്ചു സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തിലേക്കു നിലവിളിച്ചു.

20. And Hezekiah the king, and Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, made prayer because of this, crying out to heaven.

21. അപ്പോള് യഹോവ ഒരു ദൂതനെ അയച്ചു; അവന് അശ്ശൂര് രാജാവിന്റെ പാളയത്തിലെ സകലപരാക്രമശാലികളെയും പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരെയും സേനാപതികളെയും സംഹരിച്ചു; അതുകൊണ്ടു അവന് ലജ്ജാമുഖത്തോടെ സ്വദേശത്തേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോകേണ്ടിവന്നു; അവന് തന്റെ ദേവന്റെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തില് ചെന്നപ്പോള് അവന്റെ ഉദരത്തില്നിന്നു ഉത്ഭവിച്ചവര് അവനെ അവിടെവെച്ചു വാള്കൊണ്ടു കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു.

21. And the Lord sent an angel who put to death all the men of war and the chiefs and the captains in the army of the king of Assyria. So he went back to his country in shame. And when he came into the house of his god, his sons, the offspring of his body, put him to death there with the sword.

22. ഇങ്ങനെ യഹോവ യെഹിസ്കീയാവെയും യെരൂശലേംനിവാസികളെയും അശ്ശൂര്രാജാവായ സന് ഹേരീബിന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നും മറ്റെല്ലാവരുടെയും കയ്യില്നിന്നും രക്ഷിച്ചു അവര്ക്കും ചുറ്റിലും വിശ്രമം നല്കി;

22. So the Lord gave Hezekiah and the people of Jerusalem salvation from the power of Sennacherib, the king of Assyria, and from all others, giving them rest on every side.

23. പലരും യെരൂശലേമില് യഹോവേക്കു കാഴ്ചകളും യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹിസ്കീയാവിന്നു വിശേഷവസ്തുക്കളും കൊണ്ടുവന്നു; അവന് അന്നുമുതല് സകലജാതികളുടെയും ദൃഷ്ടിയില് ഉന്നതനായിത്തീര്ന്നു.

23. And great numbers came to Jerusalem with offerings for the Lord, and things of great price for Hezekiah, king of Judah: so that he was honoured among all nations from that time.

24. ആ കാലത്തു യെഹിസ്കീയാവിന്നു മരണകരമായ ദീനംപിടിച്ചു; അവന് യഹോവയോടു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിച്ചു; അതിന്നു അവന് ഉത്തരം അരുളി ഒരു അടയാളവും കൊടുത്തു.

24. In those days Hezekiah was ill and near death; and he made prayer to the Lord, and the Lord in answer gave him a sign.

25. എന്നാല് യെഹിസ്കീയാവു തനിക്കു ലഭിച്ച ഉപകാരത്തിന്നു അടുത്തവണ്ണം നടക്കാതെ നിഗളിച്ചുപോയി; അതുകൊണ്ടു അവന്റെമേലും യെഹൂദയുടെ മേലും യെരൂശലേമിന്മേലും കോപം ഉണ്ടായി.

25. But Hezekiah did not do as had been done to him; for his heart was lifted up in pride; and so wrath came on him and on Judah and Jerusalem.

26. എങ്കിലും തന്റെ ഗര്വ്വത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു യെഹിസ്കീയാവും യെരൂശലേംനിവാസികളും തങ്ങളെത്തന്നെ താഴ്ത്തി; അതുകൊണ്ടു യഹോവയുടെ കോപം യെഹിസ്കീയാവിന്റെ കാലത്തു അവരുടെമേല് വന്നില്ല.

26. But then, Hezekiah, in sorrow for what he had done, put away his pride; and he and all Jerusalem made themselves low, so that the wrath of the Lord did not come on them in Hezekiah's life-time.

27. യെഹിസ്കീയാവിന്നു അനവധി ധനവും മാനവും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന് വെള്ളി, പൊന്നു, രത്നം, സുഗന്ധ വര്ഗ്ഗം, പരിച സകലവിധമനോഹരവസ്തുക്കള് എന്നിവെക്കായി ഭണ്ഡാരഗൃഹങ്ങളും

27. And Hezekiah had very great wealth and honour; and he made himself store-houses for his gold and silver and jewels and spices, and for body-covers and all sorts of beautiful vessels.

28. ധാന്യം, വീഞ്ഞ്, എണ്ണ എന്ന അനുഭവങ്ങള്ക്കായി പാണ്ടികശാലകളും സകലവിധ മൃഗങ്ങള്ക്കും പുരകളും ആട്ടിന് കൂട്ടങ്ങള്ക്കു തൊഴുത്തുകളും ഉണ്ടാക്കി.

28. And store-houses for the produce of grain and wine and oil; and buildings for all sorts of beasts and flocks.

29. ദൈവം അവന്നു അനവധി സമ്പത്തു കൊടുത്തിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവന് പട്ടണങ്ങളെയും ആടുമാടുകൂട്ടങ്ങളെയും വളരെ സമ്പാദിച്ചു.

29. And he made towns for himself, and got together much property in flocks and herds: for God had given him great wealth.

30. ഈ യെഹിസ്കീയാവു തന്നേ ഗീഹോന് വെള്ളത്തിന്റെ മേലത്തെ ഒഴുകൂ തടുത്തു ദാവീദിന്റെ നഗരത്തിന്റെ പടിഞ്ഞാറെ ഭാഗത്തു താഴോട്ടു വരുത്തി. അങ്ങനെ യെഹിസ്കീയാവു തന്റെ സകല പ്രവര്ത്തികളിലും കൃതാര്ത്ഥനായിരുന്നു.

30. It was Hezekiah who had the higher spring of the water of Gihon stopped, and the water taken down on the west side of the town of David. In everything he undertook, Hezekiah did well.

31. എങ്കിലും ദേശത്തില് സംഭവിച്ചിരുന്ന അതിശയത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു ചോദിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ബാബേല് പ്രഭുക്കന്മാര് അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് അയച്ച ദൂതന്മാരുടെ കാര്യത്തില് അവന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തിലുള്ളതൊക്കെയും അറിവാന് തക്കവണ്ണം അവനെ പരീക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ദൈവം അവനെ വിട്ടുകൊടുത്തു.

31. However, in the business of the representatives sent by the rulers of Babylon to get news of the wonder which had taken place in the land, God gave up guiding him, testing him to see what was in his heart.

32. യെഹിസ്കീയാവിന്റെ മറ്റുള്ള വൃത്താന്തങ്ങളും അവന്റെ സല്പ്രവൃത്തികളും ആമോസിന്റെ മകനായ യെശയ്യാപ്രവാചകന്റെ ദര്ശനത്തിലും യെഹൂദയിലെയും യിസ്രായേലിലെയും രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ പുസ്തകത്തിലും എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ.

32. Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and the good he did, are recorded in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, and in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

33. യെഹിസ്കീയാവു തന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാരെപ്പോലെ നിദ്രപ്രാപിച്ചു; ദാവീദിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരുടെ കല്ലറകളിലേക്കുള്ള കയറ്റത്തിങ്കല് അവനെ അടക്കം ചെയ്തു; അവന്റെ മരണസമയത്തു എല്ലായെഹൂദയും യെരൂശലേം നിവാസികളും അവനെ ബഹുമാനിച്ചു. അവന്റെ മകനായ മനശ്ശെ അവന്നു പകരം രാജാവായി.

33. So Hezekiah went to rest with his fathers, and they put his body into the higher part of the resting-places of the sons of David: and all Judah and the people of Jerusalem gave him honour at his death. And Manasseh his son became king in his place.
