1. നിന്റെ യൌവനകാലത്തു നിന്റെ സ്രഷ്ടാവിനെ ഔര്ത്തുകൊള്ക; ദുര്ദ്ദിവസങ്ങള് വരികയും എനിക്കു ഇഷ്ടമില്ല എന്നു നീ പറയുന്ന കാലം സമീപിക്കയും

1. (12:2) Remember thy maker the sooner in thy youth, or euer the dayes of aduersitie come, and or the yeres drawe nye when thou shalt say, I haue not pleasure in them:

2. സൂര്യനും വെളിച്ചവും ചന്ദ്രനും നക്ഷത്രങ്ങളും ഇരുണ്ടുപോകയും മഴ പെയ്ത ശേഷം മേഘങ്ങള് മടങ്ങി വരികയും ചെയ്യുംമുമ്പെ തന്നേ.

2. (12:3) Before the sunne, the light, the moone, and starres be darkened, and or the cloudes turne agayne after the rayne:

3. അന്നു വീട്ടുകാവല്ക്കാര് വിറെക്കും; ബലവാന്മാര് കുനിയും; അരെക്കുന്നവര് ചുരുക്കമാകയാല് അടങ്ങിയിരിക്കും; കിളിവാതിലുകളില്കൂടി നോക്കുന്നവര് അന്ധന്മാരാകും;

3. (12:4) When the kepers of the house shall tremble, and when the strong men shall bowe them selues, when the milners stand styll because they be so fewe, and when the sight of the windowes shall waxe dimme:

4. തെരുവിലെ കതകുകള് അടയും; അരെക്കുന്ന ശബ്ദം മന്ദമാകും; പക്ഷികളുടെ ശബ്ദത്തിങ്കല് ഉണര്ന്നുപോകും; പാട്ടുകാരത്തികള് ഒക്കെയും തളരുകയും ചെയ്യും;

4. (12:5) When the doores in the streetes shalbe shut, and when the voyce of the milner shalbe layde downe, when men shall ryse vp at the voyce of the byrde, and when all the daughters of musicke shalbe brought lowe:

5. അന്നു അവര് കയറ്റത്തെ പേടിക്കും; വഴിയില് ഭീതികള് ഉള്ളതായി തോന്നും; ബദാംവൃക്ഷം പൂക്കും; തുള്ളന് ഇഴഞ്ഞുനടക്കും; രോചനക്കുരു ഫലിക്കാതെ വരും; മനുഷ്യന് തന്റെ ശാശ്വതഭവനത്തിലേക്കു പോകും; വിലാപം കഴിക്കുന്നവര് വീഥിയില് ചുറ്റി സഞ്ചരിക്കും.

5. (12:6) When men shall feare in hye places, and be afraide in the streetes, when the Almonde tree shall florishe and be laden with the grashopper, and when all lust shal passe: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streetes.

6. അന്നു വെള്ളിച്ചരടു അറ്റുപോകും; പൊന് കിണ്ണം തകരും; ഉറവിങ്കലെ കുടം ഉടയും; കിണറ്റിങ്കലെ ചക്രം തകരും.

6. (12:7) Or euer the siluer lace be taken away, and or the golden well be broken: Or the pot be broken at the well, and the wheele broken vpon the cesterne.

7. പൊടി പണ്ടു ആയിരുന്നതുപോലെ ഭൂമിയിലേക്കു തിരികെ ചേരും; ആത്മാവു അതിനെ നല്കിയ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോകും.

7. (12:8) Then shall the dust be turned agayne vnto earth from whence it came, and the spirite shall returne vnto God who gaue it.

8. ഹാ മായ, മായ, സകലവും മായ അത്രേ എന്നു സഭാപ്രസംഗി പറയുന്നു.

8. (12:9) All is but vanitie (saith the preacher) all is but playne vanitie.

9. സഭാപ്രസംഗി ജ്ഞാനിയായിരുന്നതു കൂടാതെ അവന് ജനത്തിന്നു പരിജ്ഞാനം ഉപദേശിച്ചു കൊടുക്കയും ചിന്തിച്ചു ശോധന കഴിച്ചു അനേകം സദൃശവാക്യം ചമെക്കയും ചെയ്തു.

9. (12:10) The preacher was yet more wyse, and taught the people knowledge, he gaue good heede, sought out the ground, and set foorth many parables:

10. ഇമ്പമായുള്ള വാക്കുകളും നേരായി എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നവയും സത്യമായുള്ള വചനങ്ങളും കണ്ടെത്തുവാന് സഭാപ്രസംഗി ഉത്സാഹിച്ചു.

10. His diligence was to finde out acceptable wordes, right scripture, & the wordes of trueth.

11. ജ്ഞാനികളുടെ വചനങ്ങള് മുടിങ്കോല്പോലെയും, സഭാധിപന്മാരുടെ വാക്കുകള് തറെച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ആണികള്പോലെയും ആകുന്നു; അവ ഒരു ഇടയനാല് തന്നേ നല്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.

11. For the wordes of the wyse are like prickes and nayles that go thorowe, of the auctoures of gatheringes [which] are geuen of one shephearde.

12. എന്നാല് എന്റെ മകനേ, പ്രബോധനം കൈക്കൊള്ക; പുസ്തകം ഔരോന്നുണ്ടാക്കുന്നതിന്നു അവസാനമില്ല; അധികം പഠിക്കുന്നതു ശരീരത്തിന്നു ക്ഷീണം തന്നേ.

12. Therefore beware my sonne of that doctrine that is beside this: for to make many bookes, it is an endlesse worke, and to muche studie weerieth the body.

13. എല്ലാറ്റിന്റെയും സാരം കേള്ക്കുക; ദൈവത്തെ ഭയപ്പെട്ടു അവന്റെ കല്പനകളെ പ്രമാണിച്ചുകൊള്ക; അതു ആകുന്നു സകല മനുഷ്യര്ക്കും വേണ്ടുന്നതു.

13. Let vs heare the conclusion of all thinges, Feare God, and kepe his commaundementes: for that toucheth all men.

14. ദൈവം നല്ലതും തീയതുമായ സകലപ്രവൃത്തിയെയും സകല രഹസ്യങ്ങളുമായി ന്യായവിസ്താരത്തിലേക്കു വരുത്തുമല്ലോ.

14. (12:13) For God shall iudge all workes and secrete thinges, whether they be good or euyll.
