1. ന്യായം പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കയും വിശ്വസ്തത കാണിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നവന് ഉണ്ടോ? ഒരുത്തനെ കാണുമോ എന്നു യെരൂശലേമിന്റെ വീഥികളില് ചുറ്റിനടന്നു അന്വേഷിക്കയും അതിന്റെ വിശാലസ്ഥലങ്ങളില് തിരഞ്ഞു അറികയും ചെയ്വിന് ; കണ്ടു എങ്കില് ഞാന് അതിനോടു ക്ഷമിക്കും.

1. Go to and fro in streets of Jerusalem, And see, I pray you, and know, And seek in her broad places, if ye find a man, If there be one doing judgment, seeking stedfastness -- Then am I propitious to her.

2. യഹോവയാണ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞാലും അവര് കപടമായിട്ടത്രേ സത്യം ചെയ്യുന്നതു.

2. And if they say, 'Jehovah liveth,' Surely to a falsehood they swear.

4. അതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാന് ഇവര് അല്പന്മാര്, ബുദ്ധിഹീനര് തന്നേ; അവര് യഹോവയുടെ വഴിയും തങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ന്യായവും അറിയുന്നില്ല.

4. And I -- I said, 'Surely these [are] poor, They have been foolish, For they have not known the way of Jehovah, The judgment of their God.

5. ഞാന് മഹാന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു അവരോടു സംസാരിക്കും; അവര് യഹോവയുടെ വഴിയും തങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ന്യായവും അറിയും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; എന്നാല് അവരും ഒരുപോലെ നുകം തകര്ത്തു കയറു പൊട്ടിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.

5. I get me to the great, and I speak with them, For they have known the way of Jehovah, The judgment of their God.' Surely they together have broken the yoke, They have drawn away the bands.

6. അതുകൊണ്ടു കാട്ടില്നിന്നു ഒരു സിംഹം വന്നു അവരെ കൊല്ലും; മരുപ്രദേശത്തിലെ ചെന്നായ് അവരെ പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുപോകും; പുള്ളിപ്പുലി അവരുടെ പട്ടണങ്ങള്ക്കെതിരെ പതിയിരിക്കും; അവയില് നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടുവരുന്ന എല്ലാവരെയും പറിച്ചു കീറിക്കളയും; അവരുടെ അതിക്രമങ്ങള് വളരെയല്ലോ? അവരുടെ പിന് മാറ്റങ്ങളും പെരുകിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

6. Therefore smitten them hath a lion out of the forest, A wolf of the deserts doth spoil them, A leopard is watching over their cities, Every one who is going out of them is torn, For many have been their transgressions, Mighty have been their backslidings.

7. ഞാന് നിന്നോടു ക്ഷമിക്കുന്നതു എങ്ങനെ? നിന്റെ മക്കള് എന്നെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചു, ദൈവമല്ലാത്തവയെ ചൊല്ലി സത്യം ചെയ്തുവരുന്നു; ഞാന് അവരെ പോഷിപ്പിച്ച സമയത്തു അവര് വ്യഭിചാരം ചെയ്കയും വേശ്യാഗൃഹങ്ങളില് കൂട്ടമായി ചെല്ലുകയും ചെയ്തു.

7. For this I am not propitious to thee, Thy sons have forsaken Me, And are satisfied by that which is not god, I satisfy them, and they commit adultery, And at the house of a harlot They gather themselves together.

8. തീറ്റിത്തടിപ്പിച്ച കുതിരകളെപ്പോലെ അവര് മദിച്ചുനടന്നു, ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ കൂട്ടുകാരന്റെ ഭാര്യയെ നോക്കി ചിറാലിക്കുന്നു.

8. Fed horses -- they have been early risers, Each to the wife of his neighbour they neigh.

9. ഇവനിമിത്തം ഞാന് സന്ദര്ശിക്കാതെ ഇരിക്കുമോ? ഇങ്ങനെയുള്ള ജാതിയോടു ഞാന് പകരം ചെയ്യാതിരിക്കുമോ എന്നു യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു.

9. For these do I not lay a charge? An affirmation of Jehovah, And on a nation such as this, Doth not My soul avenge itself?

10. അതിന്റെ മതിലുകളിന്മേല് കയറി നശിപ്പിപ്പിന് ; എങ്കിലും മുടിച്ചുകളയരുതു. അതിന്റെ കൊമ്പുകളെ നീക്കിക്കളവിന് ; അവ യഹോവേക്കുള്ളവയല്ലല്ലോ.

10. Go ye up on her walls, and destroy, And a completion make not, Turn aside her branches, for they [are] not Jehovah's,

11. യിസ്രായേല്ഗൃഹവും യെഹൂദാഗൃഹവും എന്നോടു മഹാദ്രോഹം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു.

11. For dealt treacherously against Me have the house of Israel, And the house of Judah, an affirmation of Jehovah.

12. അവര് യഹോവയെ നിഷേധിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞതുഅതു അവനല്ല; നമുക്കു ദോഷം വരികയില്ല; നാം വാളോ ക്ഷാമമോ കാണുകയുമില്ല.

12. They have lied against Jehovah, And they say, '[It is] not He, Nor come in against us doth evil, Yea, sword and famine we do not see.

13. പ്രവാചകന്മാര് കാറ്റായ്തീരും; അവര്ക്കും അരുളപ്പാടില്ല; അവര്ക്കും അങ്ങനെ ഭവിക്കട്ടെ.

13. And the prophets become wind, And the word is not in them,' -- thus it is done by them.

14. അതുകൊണ്ടു സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുനിങ്ങള് ഈ വാക്കു പറഞ്ഞതുകൊണ്ടു, ഇതാ, ഞാന് നിന്റെ വായില് എന്റെ വചനങ്ങളെ തീയും ഈ ജനത്തെ വിറകും ആക്കും; അവര് അതിന്നു ഇരയായി തീരും.

14. Therefore, thus said Jehovah, God of Hosts, Because of your speaking this word, Lo, I am making My words in thy mouth become fire, And this people wood, and it hath devoured them.

15. യിസ്രായേല്ഗൃഹമേ, ഞാന് ദൂരത്തുനിന്നു ഒരു ജാതിയെ നിങ്ങളുടെ നേരെ വരുത്തും എന്നു യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടുഅതു സ്ഥിരതയുള്ളോരു ജാതി; പുരാതനമായോരു ജാതി, ഭാഷ നിനക്കു അറിഞ്ഞുകൂടാത്തതും വാക്കു നിനക്കു തിരിയാത്തതുമായോരു ജാതി തന്നേ;

15. Lo, I am bringing against you a nation from afar, O house of Israel, an affirmation of Jehovah, A nation -- strong it [is], a nation -- from of old it [is], A nation -- thou knowest not its tongue, Nor understandest what it speaketh.

16. അവരുടെ ആവനാഴി തുറന്ന ശവകൂഴി; അവര് എല്ലാവരും വീരന്മാരത്രേ.

16. Its quiver [is] as an open sepulchre, All of them -- mighty ones.

17. നിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരും പുത്രിമാരും ഭക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടുന്ന നിന്റെ വിളവും നിന്റെ ആഹാരവും അവര് ഭക്ഷിച്ചുകളയും; അവര് നിന്റെ ആടുകളെയും കന്നുകാലികളെയും തിന്നുകളയും; അവര് നിന്റെ മുന്തിരിവള്ളികളെയും അത്തിവൃക്ഷങ്ങളെയും തിന്നുകളയും; നീ ആശ്രയിക്കുന്ന നിന്റെ ഉറപ്പുള്ള പട്ടണങ്ങളെ അവര് വാള് കൊണ്ടു ശൂന്യമാക്കിക്കളയും.

17. And it hath consumed thy harvest and thy bread, They consume thy sons, and thy daughters, It consumeth thy flock, and thy herd, It consumeth thy vine, and thy fig-tree, It maketh poor thy fenced cities, In which thou art trusting -- by the sword.

18. എന്നാല് അന്നാളിലും ഞാന് നിങ്ങളെ മുടിച്ചുകളകയില്ല എന്നു യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു.

18. And even in those days, an affirmation of Jehovah, I do not make you a completion.

19. നമ്മുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ ഇവയൊക്കെയും നമ്മോടു ചെയ്വാന് സംഗതി എന്തെന്നു ചോദിക്കുമ്പോള് നീ അവരോടുനിങ്ങള് എന്നെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചു നിങ്ങളുടെ ദേശത്തു അന്യദേവന്മാരെ സേവിച്ചതുപോലെ നിങ്ങള്ക്കുള്ളതല്ലാത്ത ദേശത്തു നിങ്ങള് അന്യജാതിക്കാരെ സേവിക്കേണ്ടിവരും എന്നുത്തരം പറയേണം.

19. And it hath come to pass, when ye say, 'For what hath Jehovah our God done to us all these?' That thou hast said unto them, 'As ye have forsaken Me, And serve the gods of a foreigner in your land, So do ye serve strangers in a land not yours.

20. നിങ്ങള് യാക്കോബ്ഗൃഹത്തില് പ്രസ്താവിച്ചു യെഹൂദയില് പ്രസിദ്ധമാക്കേണ്ടതെന്തെന്നാല്

20. Declare ye this in the house of Jacob, And sound ye it in Judah, saying,

21. കണ്ണു ഉണ്ടായിട്ടും കാണാതെയും ചെവി ഉണ്ടായിട്ടും കേള്ക്കാതെയും ഇരിക്കുന്ന മൂഢന്മാരും ബുദ്ധിഹീനന്മാരുമായ ജനമേ, ഇതു കേള്പ്പിന് !

21. Hear ye, I pray you, this, O people, foolish and without heart, Eyes they have, and they see not, Ears they have, and they hear not.

22. നിങ്ങള് എന്നെ ഭയപ്പെടുകയില്ലയോ? എന്റെ സന്നിധിയില് വിറെക്കയില്ലയോ എന്നു യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു; ഞാന് കടലിന്നു കവിഞ്ഞുകൂടാതവണ്ണം നിത്യപ്രമാണമായി മണല് അതിരാക്കി വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; തിരകള് അലെച്ചാലും സാധിക്കയില്ല; എത്രതന്നേ ഇരെച്ചാലും അതിര് കടക്കയില്ല.

22. Me do ye not fear, an affirmation of Jehovah? From My presence are ye not pained? Who hath made sand the border of the sea, A limit age-during, and it passeth not over it, They shake themselves, and they are not able, Yea, sounded have its billows, and they pass not over.

23. ഈ ജനത്തിന്നോ ശാഠ്യവും മത്സരവും ഉള്ളോരു ഹൃദയം ഉണ്ടു; അവര് ശഠിച്ചു പോയ്ക്കളഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു

23. And this people hath an apostate and rebellious heart, They have turned aside, and they go on.

24. മുന്മഴയും പിന്മഴയും ഇങ്ങനെ നമുക്കു അതതു സമയത്തു വേണ്ടു മഴ തരികയും കൊയ്ത്തിന്നുള്ള കാലാവധി പാലിച്ചുതരികയും ചെയ്യുന്ന നമ്മുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയെ നാം ഭയപ്പെടുക എന്നു അവര് ഹൃദയത്തില് പറയുന്നതുമില്ല.

24. And they have not said in their heart, 'Let us fear, we pray you, Jehovah our God, who is giving rain, The sprinkling and the gathered, in its season, The appointed weeks of harvest He keepeth for us.'

25. ഇവ മാറിപ്പോകുവാന് നിങ്ങളുടെ അകൃത്യങ്ങള് അത്രേ കാരണം; നിങ്ങളുടെ പാപങ്ങളാല് ഈ നന്മെക്കു മുടക്കം വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

25. Your iniquities have turned these away, And your sins have kept the good from you.

26. എന്റെ ജനത്തിന്റെ ഇടയില് ദുഷ്ടന്മാരെ കാണുന്നു; അവര് വേടന്മാരെപ്പോലെ പതിയിരിക്കുന്നു; അവര് കുടുക്കുവെച്ചു മനുഷ്യരെ പിടിക്കുന്നു.

26. For the wicked have been found among My people. It looketh about the covering of snares, They have set up a trap -- men they capture.

27. കൂട്ടില് പക്ഷി നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ അവരുടെ വീട്ടില് വഞ്ചന നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു; അങ്ങനെ അവര് മഹാന്മാരും ധനവാന്മാരും ആയിത്തീര്ന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

27. As a cage full of fowls, So their houses are full of deceit, Therefore they have been great, and are rich.

28. അവര് പുഷ്ടിവെച്ചു മിന്നുന്നു; ദുഷ്കാര്യങ്ങളില് അവര് കവിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു; അവര് അനാഥന്മാര്ക്കും ഗുണം വരത്തക്കവണ്ണം അവരുടെ വ്യവഹാരം നടത്തുന്നില്ല; ദരിദ്രന്മാര്ക്കും ന്യായപാലനം ചെയ്യുന്നതുമില്ല.

28. They have been fat, they have shone, Yea, they have overpassed the acts of the evil, Judgment they have not judged, The judgment of the fatherless -- and they prosper, And the judgment of the needy they have not judged.

29. ഇവനിമിത്തം ഞാന് സന്ദര്ശിക്കാതെ ഇരിക്കുമോ? ഇങ്ങനെയുള്ള ജാതിയോടു ഞാന് പകരം ചെയ്യാതെ ഇരിക്കുമോ എന്നു യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു.

29. For these do not I inspect, an affirmation of Jehovah, On a nation such as this, Doth not My soul avenge itself?

30. വിസ്മയവും ഭയങ്കരവുമായുള്ളതു ദേശത്തു സംഭവിക്കുന്നു.

30. An astonishing and horrible thing hath been in the land.

31. പ്രവാചകന്മാര് വ്യാജമായി പ്രവചിക്കുന്നു; പുരോഹിതന്മാരും അവരോടു ഒരു കയ്യായി നിന്നു അധികാരം നടത്തുന്നു; എന്റെ ജനത്തിന്നോ അതു ഇഷ്ടം ആകുന്നു; എന്നാല് ഒടുക്കം നിങ്ങള് എന്തു ചെയ്യും.

31. The prophets have prophesied falsely, And the priests bear rule by their means, And My people have loved [it] so, And what do they at its latter end?
