1. യിസ്രായേല് ശിത്തീമില് പാര്ക്കുംമ്പോള് ജനം മോവാബ്യസ്ത്രീകളുമായി പരസംഗം തുടങ്ങി.

1. And Israel remained in Shittim, and the people began to commit harlotry with the daughters of Moab.

2. And they invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods.

3. And Israel was joined to Baal-peor, and the anger of Jehovah burned against Israel.

4. യഹോവ മോശെയോടുജനത്തിന്റെ തലവന്മാരെയൊക്കെയും കൂട്ടി യഹോവയുടെ ഉഗ്രകോപം യിസ്രായേലിനെ വിട്ടുമാറേണ്ടതിന്നു അവരെ യഹോവയുടെ മുമ്പാകെ പരസ്യമായി തൂക്കിക്കളക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

4. And Jehovah said to Moses, Take all the heads of the people and hang them before Jehovah in broad daylight, that the burning anger of Jehovah may be turned away from Israel.

5. മോശെ യിസ്രായേല് ന്യായാധിപന്മാരോടുനിങ്ങള് ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ ആളുകളില് ബാല്പെയോരിനോടു ചേര്ന്നവരെ കൊല്ലുവിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

5. And Moses said to the judges of Israel, Every one of you kill his men who were joined to Baal-peor.

6. എന്നാല് മോശെയും സമാഗമന കൂടാരത്തിന്റെ വാതില്ക്കല് കരഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന യിസ്രായേല്മക്കളുടെ സര്വ്വസഭയും കാണ്കെ, ഒരു യിസ്രായേല്യന് തന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ മദ്ധത്തിലേക്കു ഒരു മിദ്യാന്യ സ്ത്രീയെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു.

6. And behold, one of the sons of Israel came and brought in to his brethren a Midianite woman before the eyes of Moses and before the eyes of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping at the door of the tent of meeting.

7. And when Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation and took a javelin in his hand;

8. ആ യിസ്രായേല്യന്റെ പിന്നാലെ അന്ത:പുരത്തിലേക്കു ചെന്നു ഇരുവരെയും, ആ യിസ്രായേല്യനെയും ആ സ്ത്രീയെയും തന്നേ, അവളുടെ ഉദരം തുളയുംവണ്ണം കുത്തി, അപ്പോള് ബാധ യിസ്രായേല് മക്കളെ വിട്ടുമാറി.

8. and he went after the man of Israel into the tent and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman, through her belly. Thus the plague was stopped from the children of Israel.

9. ബാധകൊണ്ടു മരിച്ചുപോയവര് ഇരുപത്തുനാലായിരം പേര്.

9. And those who died in the plague were twenty-four thousand.

10. പിന്നെ യഹോവ മോശെയോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതു

10. And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying:

11. ഞാന് എന്റെ തീക്ഷ്ണതയില് യിസ്രായേല്മക്കളെ സംഹരിക്കാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അഹരോന് പുരോഹിതന്റെ മകനായ എലെയാസാരിന്റെ മകന് ഫീനെഹാസ് അവരുടെ ഇടയില് എനിക്കുവേണ്ടി തീക്ഷ്ണതയുള്ളവനായി എന്റെ ക്രോധം യിസ്രായേല് മക്കളെ വിട്ടുപോകുമാറാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

11. Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned back My wrath from the children of Israel, because he was zealous with My zeal among them, so that I did not consume the children of Israel in My jealousy.

12. ആകയാല് ഇതാ, ഞാന് അവന്നു എന്റെ സമാധാനനിയമം കൊടുക്കുന്നു.

12. Therefore say, Behold, I give to him My covenant of peace;

13. അവന് തന്റെ ദൈവത്തിന്നുവേണ്ടി തീക്ഷ്ണതയുള്ളവനായി യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള്ക്കുവേണ്ടി പ്രായശ്ചിത്തം കഴിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു അതു അവന്നും അവന്റെ സന്തതിക്കും നിത്യപൌരോഹിത്യത്തിന്റെ നിയമമാകുന്നു എന്നു നീ പറയേണം.

13. and it shall be to him and his seed after him a covenant of a perpetual priesthood, because he was zealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Israel.

14. മിദ്യാന്യസ്ത്രീയോടുകൂടെ കൊന്ന യിസ്രായേല്യന്നു സിമ്രി എന്നു പേര്; അവന് ശിമെയോന് ഗോത്രത്തില് ഒരു പ്രഭുവായ സാലൂവിന്റെ മകന് ആയിരുന്നു.

14. Now the name of the man of Israel who was killed, who was killed with the Midianite woman, was Zimri the son of Salu, a ruler of a father's house of the Simeonites.

15. And the name of the Midianite woman who was killed was Cozbi the daughter of Zur; he was head of a tribe of a father's house in Midian.

16. പെയോരിന്റെ സംഗതിയിലും പെയോര് നിമിത്തം ഉണ്ടായ ബാധയുടെ നാളില് കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ട അവരുടെ സഹോദരിയായി മിദ്യാന്യപ്രഭുവിന്റെ മകള് കൊസ്ബിയുടെ സംഗതിയിലും മിദ്യാന്യര് നിങ്ങളെ ചതിച്ചു ഉപായങ്ങളാല് വലെച്ചിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു,

16. And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying:

17. നിങ്ങള് അവരെ വലെച്ചു സംഹരിപ്പിന്

17. Strike to harass the Midianites;

18. എന്നു യഹോവ മോശെയോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

18. for they harassed you with their schemes by which they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a ruler of Midian, their sister, who was killed in the day of the plague because of the matter of Peor.
