1. ആ കാലത്തു ലോകം ഒക്കെയും പേര്വഴി ചാര്ത്തേണം എന്നു ഔഗുസ്തൊസ് കൈസരുടെ ഒരു ആജ്ഞ പുറപ്പെട്ടു.

1. Now it came about in those days that an order went out from Caesar Augustus that there was to be a numbering of all the world.

2. കുറേന്യൊസ് സുറിയനാടു വാഴുമ്പോള് ഈ ഒന്നാമത്തെ ചാര്ത്തല് ഉണ്ടായി.

2. This was the first numbering, which was made when Quirinius was ruler of Syria.

3. എല്ലാവരും ചാര്ത്തപ്പെടേണ്ടതിന്നു താന്താന്റെ പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു യാത്രയായി.

3. And all men went to be numbered, everyone to his town.

4. അങ്ങനെ യോസേഫും ദാവീദിന്റെ ഗൃഹത്തിലും കുലത്തിലും ഉള്ളവന് ആകകൊണ്ടു തനിക്കു വിവാഹം നിശ്ചയിച്ചിരുന്ന മറിയ എന്ന ഗര്ഭിണിയായ ഭാര്യയോടും കൂടെ ചാര്ത്തപ്പെടേണ്ടതിന്നു ഗലീലയിലെ നസറത്ത് പട്ടണം വിട്ടു,

4. And Joseph went up from Galilee, out of the town of Nazareth, into Judaea, to Beth-lehem, the town of David, because he was of the house and family of David,

5. യെഹൂദ്യയില് ബേത്ളേഹെം എന്ന ദാവീദിന് പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു പോയി.

5. To be put on the list with Mary, his future wife, who was about to become a mother.

6. അവര് അവിടെ ഇരിക്കുമ്പോള് അവള്ക്കു പ്രസവത്തിനുള്ള കാലം തികെഞ്ഞു.

6. And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth.

7. അവള് ആദ്യജാതനായ മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു, ശീലകള് ചുറ്റി വഴിയമ്പലത്തില് അവര്ക്കും സ്ഥലം ഇല്ലായ്കയാല് പശുത്തൊട്ടിയില് കിടത്തി.

7. And she had her first son; and folding him in linen, she put him to rest in the place where the cattle had their food, because there was no room for them in the house.

8. അന്നു ആ പ്രദേശത്തു ഇടയന്മാര് രാത്രിയില് ആട്ടിന് കൂട്ടത്തെ കാവല്കാത്തു വെളിയില് പാര്ത്തിരുന്നു.

8. And in the same country there were keepers of sheep in the fields, watching over their flock by night.

9. അപ്പോള് കര്ത്താവിന്റെ ഒരു ദൂതന് അവരുടെ അരികെ നിന്നു, കര്ത്താവിന്റെ തേജസ്സ് അവരെ ചുറ്റിമിന്നി, അവര് ഭയപരവശരായിതീര്ന്നു.

9. And an angel of the Lord came to them, and the glory of the Lord was shining round about them: and fear came on them.

10. ദൂതന് അവരോടുഭയപ്പെടേണ്ടാ; സര്വ്വജനത്തിന്നും ഉണ്ടാവാനുള്ളോരു മഹാസന്തോഷം ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു സുവിശേഷിക്കുന്നു.

10. And the angel said, Have no fear; for truly, I give you good news of great joy which will be for all the people:

11. കര്ത്താവായ ക്രിസ്തു എന്ന രക്ഷിതാവു ഇന്നു ദാവീദിന്റെ പട്ടണത്തില് നിങ്ങള്ക്കായി ജനിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

11. For on this day, in the town of David, a Saviour has come to birth, who is Christ the Lord.

12. നിങ്ങള്ക്കു അടയാളമോ; ശീലകള് ചുറ്റി പശുത്തൊട്ടിയില് കിടക്കുന്ന ഒരു ശിശുവിനെ നിങ്ങള് കാണും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

12. And this is the sign to you: you will see a young child folded in linen, in the place where the cattle have their food.

13. പെട്ടെന്നു സ്വര്ഗ്ഗീയ സൈന്യത്തിന്റെ ഒരു സംഘം ദൂതനോടു ചേര്ന്നു ദൈവത്തെ പുകഴ്ത്തി.

13. And suddenly there was with the angel a great band of spirits from heaven, giving praise to God, and saying,

14. “അത്യുന്നതങ്ങളില് ദൈവത്തിന്നു മഹത്വം; ഭൂമിയില് ദൈവപ്രസാദമുള്ള മനുഷ്യര്ക്കും സമാധാനം” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

14. Glory to God in the highest, and on the earth peace among men with whom he is well pleased.

15. ദൂതന്മാര് അവരെ വിട്ടു സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തില് പോയശേഷം ഇടയന്മാര്നാം ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമോളം ചെന്നു കര്ത്താവു നമ്മോടു അറിയിച്ച ഈ സംഭവം കാണേണം എന്നു തമ്മില് പറഞഞു.

15. And when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the keepers of the sheep said to one another, Let us go now to Beth-lehem, and see this thing which has come about, which the Lord has made clear to us.

16. അവര് ബദ്ധപ്പെട്ടു ചെന്നു, മറിയയെയും യോസേഫിനെയും പശുത്തൊട്ടിയില് കിടക്കുന്ന ശിശുവിനെയും കണ്ടു.

16. And they came quickly, and saw Mary and Joseph, and the child in the place where the cattle had their food.

17. കണ്ടശേഷം ഈ പൈതലിനെക്കുറിച്ചു തങ്ങളോടു പറഞ്ഞ വാക്കു അറിയിച്ചു.

17. And when they saw it, they gave them an account of the things which had been said to them about the child.

18. കേട്ടവര് എല്ലാവരും ഇടയന്മാര് പറഞ്ഞതിനെക്കുറിച്ചു ആശ്ചര്യപ്പെട്ടു.

18. And all those to whose ears it came were full of wonder at the things said by the keepers of the sheep.

19. മറിയ ഈ വാര്ത്ത ഒക്കെയും ഹൃദയത്തില് സംഗ്രഹിച്ചു ധ്യാനിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

19. But Mary kept all these words in her heart, and gave much thought to them.

20. തങ്ങളോടു അറിയിച്ചതുപോലെ ഇടയന്മാര് കേട്ടതും കണ്ടതുമായ എല്ലാറ്റിനെയും കുറിച്ചു ദൈവത്തെ മഹത്വപ്പെടുത്തിയും പുകഴ്ത്തിയും കൊണ്ടു മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.

20. Then the keepers of the sheep went back, giving glory and praise to God for all the things which had come to their ears and which they had seen, as it had been said to them.

21. പരിച്ഛേദന കഴിപ്പാനുള്ള എട്ടു ദിവസം തികെഞ്ഞപ്പോള് അവന് ഗര്ഭത്തില് ഉല്പാദിക്കുംമുമ്പെ ദൂതന് പറഞ്ഞതുപോലെ അവന്നു യേശു എന്നു പേര് വിളിച്ചു.

21. And when, after eight days, the time came for his circumcision, he was named Jesus, the name which the angel had given to him before his birth.

22. And when the necessary days for making them clean by the law of Moses had come to an end, they took him to Jerusalem to give him to the Lord

23. (As it says in the law of the Lord, Every mother's first male child is to be holy to the Lord),

24. അവനെ കര്ത്താവിന്നു അര്പ്പിപ്പാനും ഒരു ഇണ കുറപ്രാവിനെയോ രണ്ടു പ്രാകൂഞ്ഞിനെയോ കര്ത്താവിന്റെ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തില് കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ യാഗം കഴിപ്പാനും അവര് അവനെ യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോയി.

24. And to make an offering, as it is ordered in the law of the Lord, of two doves or other young birds.

25. യെരൂശലേമില് ശിമ്യോന് എന്നു പേരുള്ളൊരു മനുഷ്യന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; ഈ മനുഷ്യന് നീതിമാനും യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ആശ്വാസത്തിന്നായി കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നവനും ആയിരുന്നു; പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവും അവന്റെ മേല് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

25. And there was then in Jerusalem a man whose name was Simeon; and he was an upright man, fearing God and waiting for the comfort of Israel: and the Holy Spirit was on him.

26. കര്ത്താവിന്റെ ക്രിസ്തുവിനെ കാണുംമുമ്പെ മരണം കാണ്കയില്ല എന്നു പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവിനാല് അവന്നു അരുളപ്പാടു ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

26. And he had knowledge, through the Holy Spirit, that he would not see death till he had seen the Lord's Christ.

27. അവന് ആത്മനിയോഗത്താല് ദൈവാലയത്തില് ചെന്നു. യേശു എന്ന പൈതലിന്നു വേണ്ടി ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിന്റെ ചട്ടപ്രകാരം ചെയ്വാന് അമ്മയപ്പന്മാര് അവനെ അകത്തു കൊണ്ടുചെന്നപ്പോള്

27. And full of the Spirit he came into the Temple; and when the father and mother came in with the child Jesus, to do with him what was ordered by the law,

28. അവന് അവനെ കയ്യില് ഏന്തി ദൈവത്തെ പുകഴ്ത്തി

28. Then he took him in his arms and gave praise to God and said,

29. “ഇപ്പോള് നാഥാ തിരുവചനം പോലെ നീ അടിയനെ സമാധാനത്തോടെ വിട്ടയക്കുന്നു.

29. Now you are letting your servant go in peace, O Lord, as you have said;

30. ജാതികള്ക്കു വെളിപ്പെടുവാനുള്ള പ്രകാശവും നിന്റെ ജനമായ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ മഹത്വവുമായി

30. For my eyes have seen your salvation,

31. നീ സകല ജാതികളുടെയും മുമ്പില് ഒരുക്കിയിരിക്കുന്ന നിന്റെ രക്ഷയെ

31. Which you have made ready before the face of all nations;

32. എന്റെ കണ്ണു കണ്ടുവല്ലോ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

32. A light of revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.

33. ഇങ്ങനെ അവനെക്കുറിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞതില് അവന്റെ അപ്പനും അമ്മയും ആശ്ചര്യപ്പെട്ടു.

33. And his father and mother were full of wonder at the things which were said about him.

34. പിന്നെ ശിമ്യോന് അവരെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു അവന്റെ അമ്മയായ മറിയയോടുഅനേകഹൃദയങ്ങളിലെ വിചാരം വെളിപ്പെടേണ്ടതിന്നു ഇവനെ യിസ്രായേലില് പലരുടെയും വീഴ്ചെയക്കും എഴുന്നേല്പിന്നും മറുത്തുപറയുന്ന അടയാളത്തിന്നുമായി വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

34. And Simeon gave them his blessing and said to Mary, his mother, See, this child will be the cause of the downfall and the lifting up of great numbers of people in Israel, and he will be a sign against which hard words will be said;

35. നിന്റെ സ്വന്തപ്രാണനില്കൂടിയും ഒരു വാള് കടക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

35. (And a sword will go through your heart;) so that the secret thoughts of men may come to light.

36. ആശേര് ഗോത്രത്തില് ഫനൂവേലിന്റെ മകളായ ഹന്നാ എന്നൊരു പ്രവാചകി ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവള് കന്യാകാലത്തില് പിന്നെ ഭര്ത്താവിനോടുകൂടെ ഏഴു സംവത്സരം കഴിച്ചു എണ്പത്തുനാലു സംവത്സരം വിധവയും വളരെ വയസ്സു ചെന്നവളുമായി

36. And there was one, Anna, a woman prophet, the daughter of Phanuel, of the family of Asher (she was very old, and after seven years of married life

37. She had been a widow for eighty-four years); she was in the Temple at all times, worshipping with prayers and going without food, night and day.

38. ആ നാഴികയില് അവളും അടുത്തുനിന്നു ദൈവത്തെ സ്തുതിച്ചു, യെരൂശലേമിന്റെ വീണ്ടെടുപ്പിനെ കാത്തിരുന്ന എല്ലാവരോടും അവനെക്കുറിച്ചു പ്രസ്താവിച്ചു.

38. And coming up at that time, she gave praise to God, talking of him to all those who were waiting for the freeing of Jerusalem.

39. കര്ത്താവിന്റെ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തില് കല്പിച്ചുരിക്കുന്നതൊക്കെയും നിവര്ത്തിച്ചശേഷം അവര് ഗലീലയില് തങ്ങളുടെ പട്ടണമായ നസറത്തിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.

39. And when they had done all the things which were ordered by the law of the Lord, they went back to Galilee, to Nazareth, the town where they were living.

40. പൈതല് വളര്ന്നു ജ്ഞാനം നിറഞ്ഞു, ആത്മാവില് ബലപ്പെട്ടുപോന്നു; ദൈവകൃപയും അവന്മേല് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

40. And the child became tall and strong and full of wisdom, and the grace of God was on him.

41. അവന്റെ അമ്മയപ്പന്മാര് ആണ്ടുതോറും പെസഹപെരുനാളിന്നു യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു പോകും.

41. And every year his father and mother went to Jerusalem at the feast of the Passover.

42. അവന്നു പന്ത്രണ്ടു വയസ്സായപ്പോള് അവര് പതിവുപോലെ പെരുനാളിന്നു പോയി.

42. And when he was twelve years old, they went up, as their way was, to the feast;

43. പെരുനാള് കഴിഞ്ഞു മടങ്ങിപ്പോരുമ്പോള് ബാലനായ യേശു യെരൂശലേമില് താമസിച്ചു; അമ്മയപ്പന്മാരോ അറിഞ്ഞില്ല.

43. And when the days of the feast came to an end and they were going back, the boy Jesus was still in Jerusalem, but they had no knowledge of it:

44. സഹയാത്രക്കാരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കും എന്നു അവര് ഊഹിച്ചിട്ടു ഒരു ദിവസത്തെ വഴി പോന്നു; പിന്നെ അവനെ ബന്ധുക്കളുടെയും പരിചയക്കാരുടെയും ഇടയില് തിരഞ്ഞു.

44. And in the belief that he was with some of their number, they went a day's journey; and after looking for him among their relations and friends,

45. കാണാഞ്ഞിട്ടു അവനെ അന്വേഷിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.

45. And seeing that he was not there, they went back to Jerusalem, to make search for him.

46. മൂന്നു നാള് കഴിഞ്ഞശേഷം അവന് ദൈവാലയത്തില് ഉപദേഷ്ടാക്കന്മാരുടെ നടുവില് ഇരിക്കുന്നതും അവരുടെ ഉപദേശം കേള്ക്കയും അവരോടു ചോദിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നതും കണ്ടു.

46. And after three days they came across him in the Temple, seated among the wise men, giving ear to their words and putting questions to them.

47. അവന്റെ വാക്കു കേട്ടവര്ക്കെല്ലാവര്ക്കും അവന്റെ വിവേകത്തിലും ഉത്തരങ്ങളിലും വിസ്മയം തോന്നി. അവനെ കണ്ടിട്ടു അവര് അതിശയിച്ചു;

47. And all to whose ears it came were full of wonder at his knowledge and the answers which he gave.

48. അമ്മ അവനോടുമകനേ, ഞങ്ങളോടു ഇങ്ങനെ ചെയ്തതു എന്തു? നിന്റെ അപ്പനും ഞാനും വ്യസനിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു നിന്നെ തിരഞ്ഞു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

48. And when they saw him they were surprised, and his mother said to him, Son, why have you done this to us? see, your father and I have been looking for you with sorrow.

49. അവന് അവരോടുഎന്നെ തിരഞ്ഞതു എന്തിന്നു? എന്റെ പിതാവിന്നുള്ളതില് ഞാന് ഇരിക്കേണ്ടതു എന്നു നിങ്ങള് അറിയുന്നില്ലയോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

49. And he said to them, Why were you looking for me? was it not clear to you that my right place was in my Father's house?

50. അവന് തങ്ങളോടു പറഞ്ഞ വാക്കു അവര് ഗ്രഹിച്ചില്ല.

50. And his words seemed strange to them.

51. പിന്നെ അവന് അവരോടുകൂടെ ഇറങ്ങി, നസറെത്തില് വന്നു അവര്ക്കും കീഴടങ്ങിയിരുന്നു. ഈ കാര്യങ്ങള് എല്ലാം അവന്റെ അമ്മ ഹൃദയത്തില് സംഗ്രഹിച്ചു.

51. And he went down with them and came to Nazareth; and did as he was ordered: and his mother kept all these words in her heart.

52. യേശുവോ ജ്ഞാനത്തിലും വളര്ച്ചയിലും ദൈവത്തിന്റെയും മനുഷ്യരുടെയും കൃപയിലും മുതിര്ന്നു വന്നു.

52. And Jesus was increasing in wisdom and in years, and in grace before God and men.
