1. തെയോഫിലൊസേ, ഞാന് എഴുതിയ ഒന്നാമത്തെ ചരിത്രം യേശു തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്ത അപ്പൊസ്തലന്മാര്ക്കും പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവിനാല് കല്പന കൊടുത്തിട്ടു ആരോഹണം ചെയ്തനാള്വരെ അവന് ചെയ്തും ഉപദേശിച്ചും തുടങ്ങിയ സകലത്തെയും കുറിച്ചു ആയിരുന്നുവല്ലോ.

1. The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

2. അവന് കഷ്ടം അനുഭവിച്ചശേഷം നാല്പതു നാളോളം അവര്ക്കും പ്രത്യക്ഷനായി ദൈവരാജ്യം സംബന്ധിച്ച കാര്യങ്ങള്

2. Until the day when he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom he had chosen:

3. പറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടു താന് ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അനേകം ദൃഷ്ടാന്തങ്ങളാല് അവര്ക്കും കാണിച്ചു കൊടുത്തു.

3. To whom also he showed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen by them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

4. അങ്ങനെ അവന് അവരുമായി കൂടിയിരിക്കുമ്പോള് അവരോടുനിങ്ങള് യെരൂശലേമില്നിന്നു വാങ്ങിപ്പോകാതെ എന്നോടു കേട്ട പിതാവിന്റെ വാഗ്ദത്തത്തിനായി കാത്തിരിക്കേണം;

4. And, being assembled with [them], commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, [saith he], ye have heard from me.

5. യോഹന്നാന് വെള്ളംകൊണ്ടു സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിച്ചു. നിങ്ങള്ക്കോ ഇനി ഏറെനാള് കഴിയുംമുമ്പെ പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവുകൊണ്ടു സ്നാനം ലഭിക്കും എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

5. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.

6. ഒരുമിച്ചു കൂടിയിരുന്നപ്പോള് അവര് അവനോടുകര്ത്താവേ, നീ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു ഈ കാലത്തിലോ രാജ്യം യഥാസ്ഥാനത്താക്കിക്കൊടുക്കുന്നതു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

6. When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

7. അവന് അവരോടുപിതാവു തന്റെ സ്വന്ത അധികാരത്തില് വെച്ചിട്ടുള്ള കാലങ്ങളെയോ സമയങ്ങളേയോ അറിയുന്നതു നിങ്ങള്ക്കുള്ളതല്ല.

7. And he said to them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

8. എന്നാല് പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവു നിങ്ങളുടെ മേല് വരുമ്പോള് നിങ്ങള് ശക്തി ലഭിച്ചിട്ടു യെരൂശലേമിലും യെഹൂദ്യയില് എല്ലാടത്തും ശമര്യയിലും ഭൂമിയുടെ അറ്റത്തോളവും എന്റെ സാക്ഷികള് ആകും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

8. But ye shall receive power, after the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses to me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and to the uttermost part of the earth.

9. ഇതു പറഞ്ഞശേഷം അവര് കാണ്കെ അവന് ആരോഹണം ചെയ്തു; ഒരു മേഘം അവനെ മൂടീട്ടു അവന് അവരുടെ കാഴ്ചെക്കു മറഞ്ഞു.

9. And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

10. അവന് പോകുന്നേരം അവര് ആകാശത്തിലേക്കു ഉറ്റുനോക്കുമ്പോള് വെള്ള വസ്ത്രം ധരിച്ച രണ്ടു പുരുഷന്മാര് അവരുടെ അടുക്കല്നിന്നു

10. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;

11. ഗലീലാപുരുഷന്മാരേ, നിങ്ങള് ആകാശത്തിലേക്കു നോക്കിനിലക്കുന്നതു എന്തു? നിങ്ങളെ വിട്ടു സ്വര്ഗ്ഗാരോഹണം ചെയ്ത ഈ യേശുവിനെ സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തിലേക്കു പോകുന്നവനായി നിങ്ങള് കണ്ടതുപോലെ തന്നേ അവന് വീണ്ടും വരും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

11. Who also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up to heaven? this same Jesus, who is taken from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

12. അവര് യെരൂശലേമിന്നു സമീപത്തു ഒരു ശബ്ബത്ത് ദിവസത്തെ വഴിദൂരമുള്ള ഒലീവ് മലവിട്ടു യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോന്നു.

12. Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey.

13. അവിടെ എത്തിയപ്പോള് അവര് പാര്ത്ത മാളികമുറിയില് കയറിപ്പോയി, പത്രൊസ്, യോഹന്നാന് , യാക്കോബ്, അന്ത്രെയാസ്, ഫിലിപ്പൊസ്, തോമസ്, ബര്ത്തൊലൊമായി, മത്തായി, അല്ഫായുടെ മകനായ യക്കോബ്, എരിവുകരനായ ശിമോന് , യാക്കോബിന്റെ മകനായ യൂദാ ഇവര് എല്ലാവരും

13. And when they had come in, they went into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James [the son] of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas [the brother] of James.

14. സ്ത്രീകളോടും യേശുവിന്റെ അമ്മയായ മറിയയോടും അവന്റേ സഹോദരന്മാരോടും കൂടെ ഒരുമനപ്പെട്ടു പ്രാര്ത്ഥന കഴിച്ചു പോന്നു.

14. These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

15. ആ കാലത്തു ഏകദേശം നൂറ്റിരുപതു പേരുള്ള ഒരു സംഘം കൂടിയിരിക്കുമ്പോള് പത്രൊസ് സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ നടുവില് എഴുന്നേറ്റുനിന്നു പറഞ്ഞതു

15. And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of the names together were about an hundred and twenty,)

16. സഹോദരന്മാരായ പുരുഷന്മാരേ, യേശുവിനെ പിടിച്ചവര്ക്കും വഴികാട്ടിയായിത്തീര്ന്ന യൂദയെക്കുറിച്ചു പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവു ദാവീദ് മുഖാന്തരം മുന് പറഞ്ഞ തിരുവെഴുത്തിന്ന് നിവൃത്തിവരുവാന് ആവശ്യമായിരുന്നു.

16. Men, brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit by the mouth of David spoke before concerning Judas, who was guide to them that took Jesus.

17. അവന് ഞങ്ങളുടെ എണ്ണത്തില് ഉള്പ്പെട്ടവനായി ഈ ശുശ്രൂഷയില് പങ്കുലഭിച്ചിരുന്നുവല്ലോ.

17. For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.

18. അവന് അനീതിയുടെ കൂലികൊണ്ടു ഒരു നിലം മേടിച്ചു തലകീഴായി വീണു നടുവെ പിളര്ന്നു അവന്റെ കുടലെല്ലാം തുറിച്ചുപോയി.

18. Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

19. അതു യെരൂശലേമില് പാര്ക്കുംന്ന എല്ലാവരും അറിഞ്ഞതാകകൊണ്ടു ആ നിലത്തിന്നു അവരുടെ ഭാഷയില് രക്തനിലം എന്നര്ത്ഥമുള്ള അക്കല്ദാമാ എന്നു പേര് ആയി.

19. And it was known to all the dwellers at Jerusalem; therefore that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.

20. സങ്കീര്ത്തനപുസ്തകത്തില്“അവന്റെ വാസസ്ഥലം ശുന്യമായിപ്പോകട്ടെ; അതില് ആരും പാര്ക്കാതിരിക്കട്ടെ” എന്നും “അവന്റെ അദ്ധ്യക്ഷസ്ഥാനം മാറ്റൊരുത്തന്നു ലഭിക്കട്ടെ” എന്നും എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

20. For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell in it: and his office let another take.

21. ആകയാല് കര്ത്താവായ യേശു യോഹന്നാന്റെ സ്നാനം മുതല് നമ്മെ വിട്ടു ആരോഹണം ചെയ്ത നാള് വരെ നമ്മുടെ ഇടയില് സഞ്ചരിച്ചുപോന്ന

21. Therefore of these men who accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,

22. കാലത്തെല്ലൊം ഞങ്ങളോടു കൂടെ നടന്ന പുരുഷന്മാരില് ഒരുത്തന് ഞങ്ങളോടു കൂടെ അവന്റെ പുനരുത്ഥാനത്തിനു സാക്ഷിയായിത്തീരേണം.

22. Beginning from the baptism of John, to that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

23. അങ്ങനെ അവര് യുസ്തൊസ് എന്നു മറുപേരുള്ള ബര്ശബാ എന്ന യോസേഫ്, മത്ഥിയാസ് എന്നീ രണ്ടുപേരെ നിറുത്തി

23. And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

24. സകല ഹൃദയങ്ങളെയും അറിയുന്ന കര്ത്താവേ, തന്റെ സ്ഥലത്തേക്കു പോകേണ്ടതിന്നു യൂദാ ഒഴിഞ്ഞുപോയ ഈ ശുശ്രൂഷയുടെയും അപ്പൊസ്തലത്വത്തിന്റെയും സ്ഥാനം ലഭിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു

24. And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, who knowest the hearts of all [men], show which of these two thou hast chosen,

25. ഈ ഇരുവരില് ഏവനെ നീ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു കാണിച്ചുതരേണമേ എന്നു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിച്ചു അവരുടെ പേര്ക്കും ചീട്ടിട്ടു

25. That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.

26. ചീട്ടു മത്ഥിയാസിന്നു വീഴുകയും അവനെ പതിനൊന്നു അപ്പൊസ്തലന്മാരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് എണ്ണുകയും ചെയ്തു.

26. And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
