1. ഗിലെയാദ്യനായ യിഫ്താഹ് പരാക്രമശാലി എങ്കിലും വേശ്യാപുത്രന് ആയിരുന്നു; യിഫ്താഹിന്റെ ജനകനോ ഗിലെയാദ് ആയിരുന്നു.

1. Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valour, and he was the son of an harlot: and Gilead begat Jephthah.

2. ഗിലെയാദിന്റെ ഭാര്യയും അവന്നു പുത്രന്മാരെ പ്രസവിച്ചു; അവന്റെ ഭാര്യയുടെ പുത്രന്മാര് വളര്ന്നശേഷം അവര് യിഫ്താഹിനോടുനീ ഞങ്ങളുടെ പിതൃഭവനത്തില് അവകാശം പ്രാപിക്കയില്ല; നീ പരസ്ത്രീയുടെ മകനല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവനെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

2. And Gilead's wife bare him sons; and when his wife's sons grew up, they drave out Jephthah, and said unto him, Thou shalt not inherit in our father's house; for thou art the son of another woman.

3. അങ്ങനെ യിഫ്താഹ് തന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരെ വിട്ടു തോബ് ദേശത്തു ചെന്നു പാര്ത്തു; നിസ്സാരന്മാരായ ചിലര് യിഫ്താഹിനോടു ചേര്ന്നു അവനുമായി സഞ്ചരിച്ചു.

3. Then Jephthah fled from his brethren, and dwelt in the land of Tob: and there were gathered vain fellows to Jephthah, and they went out with him.

4. കുറെക്കാലം കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു അമ്മോന്യര് യിസ്രായേലിനോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു.

4. And it came to pass after a while, that the children of Ammon made war against Israel.

5. അമ്മോന്യര് യിസ്രായേലിനോടു യുദ്ധം തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോള് ഗിലെയാദിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാര് യിഫ്താഹിനെ തോബ് ദേശത്തുനിന്നു കൊണ്ടുവരുവാന് ചെന്നു.

5. And it was so, that when the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to fetch Jephthah out of the land of Tob:

6. അവര് യിഫ്താഹിനോടുഅമ്മോന്യരോടു യുദ്ധം ചെയ്യേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ വന്നു ഞങ്ങളുടെ സേനാപതിയായിരിക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

6. and they said unto Jephthah, Come and be our chief, that we may fight with the children of Ammon.

7. യിഫ്താഹ് ഗിലെയാദ്യരോടുനിങ്ങള് എന്നെ പകെച്ചു പിതൃഭവനത്തില് നിന്നു നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞില്ലയോ? ഇപ്പോള് നിങ്ങള് കഷ്ടത്തില് ആയ സമയം എന്റെ അടുക്കല് എന്തിന്നു വരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

7. And Jephthah said unto the elders of Gilead, Did not ye hate me, and drive me out of my father's house? and why are ye come unto me now when ye are in distress?

8. ഗിലെയാദിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാര് യിഫ്താഹിനോടുനീ ഞങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ വന്നു അമ്മോന്യരോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്കയും ഗിലെയാദിലെ സകല നിവാസികള്ക്കും തലവനായിരിക്കയും ചെയ്യേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞങ്ങള് ഇപ്പോള് നിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ഇങ്ങോട്ടു വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

8. And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, Therefore are we turned again to thee now, that thou mayest go with us, and fight with the children of Ammon, and thou shalt be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.

9. യിഫ്താഹ് ഗിലെയാദിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാരോടുഅമ്മോന്യരോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്വാന് നിങ്ങള് എന്നെ കൊണ്ടുപോയിട്ടു യഹോവ അവരെ എന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചാല് നിങ്ങള് എന്നെ തലവനാക്കുമോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

9. And Jephthah said unto the elders of Gilead, If ye bring me home again to fight with the children of Ammon, and the LORD deliver them before me, shall I be your head?

10. ഗിലെയാദിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാര് യിഫ്താഹിനോടുയഹോവ നമ്മുടെ മദ്ധ്യേ സാക്ഷി; നീ പറഞ്ഞതുപോലെ ഞങ്ങള് ചെയ്യും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, The LORD shall be witness between us; surely according to thy word so will we do.

11. അങ്ങനെ യിഫ്താഹ് ഗിലെയാദിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാരോടുകൂടെ പോയി; ജനം അവനെ തലവനും സേനാപതിയുമാക്കി; യിഫ്താഹ് മിസ്പയില്വെച്ചു യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് തന്റെ കാര്യമെല്ലാം പ്രസ്താവിച്ചു.

11. Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and chief over them: and Jephthah spake all his words before the LORD in Mizpah.

12. അനന്തരം യിഫ്താഹ് അമ്മോന്യരുടെ രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചുനീ എന്നോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്വാന് എന്റെ ദേശത്തു വരേണ്ടതിന്നു എന്നോടു നിനക്കെന്തു കാര്യം എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.

12. And Jephthah sent messengers unto the king of the children of Ammon, saying, What hast thou to do with me, that thou art come unto me to fight against my land?

13. അമ്മോന്യരുടെ രാജാവു യിഫ്താഹിന്റെ ദൂതന്മാരോടുയിസ്രായേല് മിസ്രയീമില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടുവന്നപ്പോള് അവര് അര്ന്നോന് മുതല് യബ്ബോക്വരെയും യോര്ദ്ദാന് വരെയും ഉള്ള എന്റെ ദേശം അടക്കിയതുകൊണ്ടു തന്നേ; ഇപ്പോള് ആ ദേശങ്ങളെ സമാധാനത്തോടെ മടക്കിത്തരിക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

13. And the king of the children of Ammon answered unto the messengers of Jephthah, Because Israel took away my land, when he came up out of Egypt, from Arnon even unto Jabbok, and unto Jordan: now therefore restore those lands again peaceably.

14. യിഫ്താഹ് പിന്നെയും അമ്മോന്യരുടെ രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചു,

14. And Jephthah sent messengers again unto the king of the children of Ammon:

15. അവനോടു പറയിച്ചതെന്തെന്നാല്യിഫ്താഹ് ഇപ്രകാരം പറയുന്നു;

15. and he said unto him, Thus saith Jephthah: Israel took not away the land of Moab, nor the land of the children of Ammon:

16. യിസ്രായേല് മോവാബ് ദേശമോ അമ്മോന്യരുടെ ദേശമോ അടക്കീട്ടില്ല. യിസ്രായേല് മിസ്രയീമില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു മരുഭൂമിയില്കൂടി ചെങ്കടല്വരെ സഞ്ചരിച്ചു കാദേശില് എത്തി.

16. but when they came up from Egypt, and Israel walked through the wilderness unto the Red Sea, and came to Kadesh;

17. യിസ്രായേല് എദോം രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചുഞാന് നിന്റെ ദേശത്തുകൂടി കടന്നുപോകുവാന് അനുവാദം തരേണമെന്നു പറയിച്ചു എങ്കിലും എദോംരാജാവു കേട്ടില്ല; മോവാബ് രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കലും അവര് പറഞ്ഞയച്ചു, അവനും സമ്മതിച്ചില്ല; അങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല് കാദേശില് പാര്ത്തു.

17. then Israel sent messengers unto the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, pass through thy land: but the king of Edom hearkened not. And in like manner he sent unto the king of Moab: but he would not: and Israel abode in Kadesh.

18. അവര് മരുഭൂമിയില്കൂടി സഞ്ചരിച്ചു എദോംദേശവും മോവാബ്ദേശവും ചുറ്റിച്ചെന്നു മോവാബ് ദേശത്തിന്റെ കിഴക്കു എത്തി അര്ന്നോന്നക്കരെ പാളയമിറങ്ങി; അര്ന്നോന് മോവാബിന്റെ അതിരായിരുന്നു. മോവാബിന്റെ അതിര്ക്കകത്തു അവര് കടന്നില്ല.

18. Then he walked through the wilderness, and compassed the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab, and they pitched on the other side of Arnon; but they came not within the border of Moab, for Arnon was the border of Moab.

19. പിന്നെ യിസ്രായേല് ഹെശ്ബോനില് വാണിരുന്ന അമോര്യ്യരാജാവായ സീഹോന്റെ അടുക്കല് ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചുനിന്റെ ദേശത്തുകൂടി എന്റെ സ്ഥലത്തേക്കു കടന്നുപോകുവാന് അനുവാദം തരേണമെന്നു പറയിച്ചു.

19. And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon; and Israel said unto him, Let us pass, we pray thee, through thy land unto my place.

20. എങ്കിലും സീഹോന് യിസ്രായേല് തന്റെ ദേശത്തുകൂടി കടന്നുപോകുവാന് തക്കവണ്ണം അവരെ വിശ്വസിക്കാതെ തന്റെ ജനത്തെ ഒക്കെയും വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി, യഹസില് പാളയമിറങ്ങി യിസ്രായേലിനോടു പടയേറ്റു.

20. But Sihon trusted not Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and pitched in Jahaz, and fought against Israel.

21. യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ സീഹോനെയും അവന്റെ സകലജനത്തെയും യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചു; അവര് അവരെ തോല്പിച്ചു; ഇങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല് ആദേശനിവാസികളായ അമോര്യ്യരുടെ ദേശം ഒക്കെയും കൈവശമാക്കി.

21. And the LORD, the God of Israel, delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they smote them: so Israel possessed all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that country.

22. അര്ന്നോന് മുതല് യബ്ബോക്വരെയും മരുഭൂമിയില് യോര്ദ്ദാന് വരെയുമുള്ള അമോര്യ്യരുടെ ദേശം ഒക്കെയും അവര് പിടിച്ചടക്കി.

22. And they possessed all the border of the Amorites, from Arnon even unto Jabbok, and from the wilderness even unto Jordan.

23. യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ തന്റെ ജനമായ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ മുമ്പില്നിന്നു അമോര്യ്യരെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞിരിക്കെ നീ അവരുടെ അവകാശം അടക്കുവാന് പോകുന്നുവോ?

23. So now the LORD, the God of Israel, hath dispossessed the Amorites from before his people Israel, and shouldest thou possess them?

24. നിന്റെ ദേവനായ കെമോശ് നിനക്കു അവകാശമായി തരുന്ന ദേശത്തെ നീ അടക്കി അനുഭവിക്കയില്ലയോ? അങ്ങനെ തന്നെ ഞങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ ഞങ്ങളുടെ മുമ്പില്നിന്നു നീക്കിക്കളയുന്നവരുടെ അവകാശം ഞങ്ങളും അടക്കി അനുഭവിക്കും.

24. Wilt not thou possess that which Chemosh thy god giveth thee to possess? So whomsoever the LORD our God hath dispossessed from before us, them will we possess.

25. സിപ്പോരിന്റെ മകനായ ബാലാക് എന്ന മോവാബ് രാജാവിനെക്കാളും നീ യോഗ്യനോ? അവന് യിസ്രായേലിനോടു എപ്പോഴെങ്കിലും വാഗ്വാദം ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ടോ? എപ്പോഴെങ്കിലും അവരോടു യുദ്ധം ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ടോ?

25. And now art thou any thing better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? did he ever strive against Israel, or did he ever fight against them?

26. യിസ്രായേല് ഹെശ്ബോനിലും അതിന്റെ പട്ടണങ്ങളിലും അരോവേരിലും അതിന്റെ പട്ടണങ്ങളിലും അര്ന്നോന് തീരത്തുള്ള എല്ലാപട്ടണങ്ങളിലും മുന്നൂറു സംവത്സരത്തോളം പാര്ത്തിരിക്കെ ആ കാലത്തിന്നിടയില് നിങ്ങള് അവയെ ഒഴിപ്പിക്കാതിരുന്നതു എന്തു?

26. While Israel dwelt in Heshbon and her towns, and in Aroer and her towns, and in all the cities that are along by the side of Arnon, three hundred years; wherefore did ye not recover them within that time?

27. ആകയാല് ഞാന് നിന്നോടു അന്യായം ചെയ്തിട്ടില്ല; എന്നോടു യുദ്ധം ചെയ്യുന്നതിനാല് നീ എന്നോടാകുന്നു അന്യായം ചെയ്യുന്നതു; ന്യായാധിപനായ യഹോവ ഇന്നു യിസ്രായേല്മക്കളുടെയും അമ്മോന്യരുടെയും മദ്ധ്യേ ന്യായം വിധിക്കട്ടെ.

27. I therefore have not sinned against thee, but thou doest me wrong to war against me: the LORD, the Judge, be judge this day between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon.

28. എന്നാല് യിഫ്താഹ് പറഞ്ഞയച്ച വാക്കു അമ്മോന്യരുടെ രാജാവു കൂട്ടാക്കിയില്ല.

28. Howbeit the king of the children Ammon hearkened not unto the words of Jephthah which he sent him.

29. അപ്പോള് യഹോവയുടെ ആത്മാവു യിഫ്താഹിന് മേല് വന്നു; അവന് ഗിലെയാദിലും മനശ്ശെയിലും കൂടി കടന്നു ഗിലെയാദിലെ മിസ്പയില് എത്തി ഗിലെയാദിലെ മിസ്പയില്നിന്നു അമ്മോന്യരുടെ നേരെ ചെന്നു.

29. Then the spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over unto the children of Ammon.

30. യിഫ്താഹ് യഹോവേക്കു ഒരു നേര്ച്ച നേര്ന്നു പറഞ്ഞതുനീ അമ്മോന്യരെ എന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കുമെങ്കില്

30. And Jephthah vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If thou wilt indeed deliver the children of Ammon into mine hand,

31. ഞാന് അമ്മോന്യരെ ജയിച്ചു സമാധാനത്തോടെ മടങ്ങിവരുമ്പോള് എന്റെ വീട്ടുവാതില്ക്കല്നിന്നു എന്നെ എതിരേറ്റുവരുന്നതു യഹോവേക്കുള്ളതാകും; അതു ഞാന് ഹോമയാഗമായി അര്പ്പിക്കും.

31. then it shall be, that whatsoever cometh forth of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, it shall be the LORD'S, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering.

32. ഇങ്ങനെ യിഫ്താഹ് അമ്മോന്യരോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്വാന് അവരുടെ നേരെ ചെന്നു; യഹോവ അവരെ അവന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചു.
എബ്രായർ 11:32

32. So Jephthah passed over unto the children of Ammon to fight against them; and the LORD delivered them into his hand.

33. അവന് അവര്ക്കും അരോവേര്മുതല് മിന്നീത്ത്വരെയും ആബേല്-കെരാമീംവരെയും ഒരു മഹാസംഹാരം വരുത്തി, ഇരുപതു പട്ടണം ജയിച്ചടക്കി.

33. And he smote them from Aroer until thou come to Minnith, even twenty cities, and unto Abel�cheramim, with a very great slaughter. So the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel.

34. എന്നാല് യിഫ്താഹ് മിസ്പയില് തന്റെ വീട്ടിലകൂ ചെല്ലുമ്പോള് ഇതാ, അവന്റെ മകള് തപ്പോടും നൃത്തത്തോടുംകൂടെ അവനെ എതിരേറ്റുവരുന്നു; അവള് അവന്നു ഏകപുത്രി ആയിരുന്നു; അവളല്ലാതെ അവന്നു മകനുമില്ല മകളുമില്ല.

34. And Jephthah came to Mizpah unto his house, and, behold, his daughter came out to meet him with timbrels and with dances: and she was his only child; beside her he had neither son nor daughter.

35. അവളെ കണ്ടയുടനെ അവന് തന്റെ വസ്ത്രം കീറിഅയ്യോ എന്റെ മകളേ, നീ എന്റെ തല കുനിയിച്ചു, നീ എന്നെ വ്യസനിപ്പിക്കുന്നവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് ആക്കിയല്ലോ; യഹോവയോടു ഞാന് പറഞ്ഞുപോയി; എനിക്കു പിന്മാറിക്കൂടാ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

35. And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he rent his clothes, and said, Alas, my daughter! thou hast brought me very low, and thou art one of them that trouble me: for I have opened my mouth unto the LORD, and I cannot go back.

36. അവള് അവനോടുഅപ്പാ, നീ യഹോവയോടു പറഞ്ഞുപോയിട്ടുണ്ടെങ്കില് യഹോവ നിനക്കുവേണ്ടി നിന്റെ ശത്രുക്കളായ അമ്മോന്യരോടു പ്രതികാരം നടത്തിയിരിക്കയാല് നിന്റെ വായില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടതുപോലെ എന്നോടു ചെയ്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

36. And she said unto him, My father, thou hast opened thy mouth unto the LORD; do unto me according to that which hath proceeded out of thy mouth; forasmuch as the LORD hath taken vengeance for thee of thine enemies, even of the children of Ammon.

37. എന്നാല് ഒരു കാര്യം എനിക്കു വേണ്ടിയിരുന്നു; ഞാന് പര്വ്വതങ്ങളില് ചെന്നു എന്റെ സഖിമാരുമായി എന്റെ കന്യാത്വത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു വിലാപം കഴിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു എനിക്കു രണ്ടു മാസത്തെ അവധി തരേണം എന്നു അവള് തന്റെ അപ്പനോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

37. And she said unto her father, Let this thing be done for me: let me alone two months, that I may depart and go down upon the mountains, and bewail my virginity, I and my companions.

38. അതിന്നു അവന് പോക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവളെ രണ്ടു മാസത്തേക്കു അയച്ചു; അവള് തന്റെ സഖിമാരുമായി ചെന്നു തന്റെ കന്യാത്വത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു പര്വ്വതങ്ങളില് വിലാപംകഴിച്ചു.

38. And he said, Go. And he sent her away for two months: and she departed, she and her companions, and bewailed her virginity upon the mountains.

39. രണ്ടു മാസം കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു അവള് തന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ അടുക്കലേക്കു മടങ്ങിവന്നു; അവന് നേര്ന്നിരുന്ന നേര്ച്ചപോലെ അവളോടു ചെയ്തു; അവള് ഒരു പുരുഷനെ അറിഞ്ഞിരുന്നതുമില്ല.

39. And it came to pass at the end of two months, that she returned unto her father, who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed: and she had not known man. And it was a custom in Israel,

40. പിന്നെ ആണ്ടുതോറും യിസ്രായേലിലെ കന്യകമാര് നാലു ദിവസം ഗിലെയാദ്യനായ യിഫ്താഹിന്റെ മകളെ കീര്ത്തിപ്പാന് പോകുന്നതു യിസ്രായേലില് ഒരു ആചാരമായ്തീര്ന്നു.

40. that the daughters of Israel went yearly to celebrate the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite four days in a year.
