1. അക്കാലത്തു യിസ്രായേലില് രാജാവില്ലായിരുന്നു. ദാന് ഗോത്രക്കാര് അക്കാലം തങ്ങള്ക്കു കുടിപാര്പ്പാന് ഒരു അവകാശം അന്വേഷിച്ചു; യിസ്രായേല്ഗോത്രങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില് അവര്ക്കും അന്നുവരെ അവകാശം സ്വാധീനമായ്വന്നിരുന്നില്ല.

1. In those days there is no king in Israel, and in those days the tribe of the Danite is seeking for itself an inheritance to inhabit, for [that] hath not fallen to it unto that day in the midst of the tribes of Israel by inheritance.

2. അങ്ങനെയിരിക്കേ ദേശം ഒറ്റുനോക്കി പരിശോധിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ദാന്യര് തങ്ങളുടെ ഗോത്രത്തില് നിന്നു കൂട്ടത്തില് പരാക്രമശാലികളായ അഞ്ചുപേരെ സോരയില്നിന്നും എസ്തായോലില് നിന്നും അയച്ചു, അവരോടുനിങ്ങള് ചെന്നു ദേശം ശോധനചെയ്വിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

2. And the sons of Dan send, out of their family, five men of them, men, sons of valour, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, to traverse the land, and to search it, and they say unto them, 'Go, search the land;' and they come into the hill-country of Ephraim, unto the house of Micah, and lodge there.

3. അവര് എഫ്രയീംമലനാട്ടില് മീഖാവിന്റെ വീടുവരെ എത്തി രാത്രി അവിടെ പാര്ത്തു. മീഖാവിന്റെ വീട്ടിന്നരികെ എത്തിയപ്പോള് അവര് ആ ലേവ്യയുവാവിന്റെ ശബ്ദം കേട്ടറിഞ്ഞു അവിടെ കയറിച്ചെന്നു അവനോടുനിന്നെ ഇവിടെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നതു ആര്? നീ ഇവിടെ എന്തു ചെയ്യുന്നു? നിനക്കു ഇവിടെ എന്തു കിട്ടും എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

3. They [are] with the household of Micah, and they have discerned the voice of the young man, the Levite, and turn aside there, and say to him, 'Who hath brought thee hither? and what art thou doing in this [place?] and what to thee here?'

4. അവന് അവരോടുമീഖാവു എനിക്കു ഇന്നിന്നതു ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു; അവന് എന്നെ ശമ്പളത്തിന്നു നിര്ത്തി; ഞാന് അവന്റെ പുരോഹിതന് ആകുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

4. And he saith unto them, 'Thus and thus hath Micah done to me; and he hireth me, and I am to him for a priest.'

5. അവര് അവനോടുഞങ്ങള് പോകുന്ന യാത്ര ശുഭമാകുമോ എന്നു അറിയേണ്ടതിന്നു ദൈവത്തോടു ചോദിക്കേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

5. And they say to him, 'Ask, we pray thee, at God, and we know whether our way is prosperous on which we are going.'

6. പുരോഹിതന് അവരോടുസമാധാനത്തോടെ പോകുവിന് ; നിങ്ങള് പോകുന്ന യാത്ര യഹോവേക്കു സമ്മതം തന്നേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

6. And the priest saith to them, 'Go in peace; over-against Jehovah [is] your way in which ye go.'

7. അങ്ങനെ ആ അഞ്ചു പുരുഷന്മാരും പുറപ്പെട്ടു ലയീശിലേക്കു ചെന്നു; അവിടത്തെ ജനം സീദോന്യരെപ്പോലെ സ്വൈരവും സ്വസ്ഥതയും ഉള്ളവരായി നിര്ഭയം വസിക്കുന്നു; യാതൊരു കാര്യത്തിലും അവര്ക്കും ദോഷം ചെയ്വാന് പ്രാപ്തിയുള്ളവന് ദേശത്തു ആരുമില്ല; അവര് സീദോന്യര്ക്കും അകലെ പാര്ക്കുംന്നു; മറ്റുള്ള മനുഷ്യരുമായി അവര്ക്കും സംസര്ഗ്ഗവുമില്ല എന്നു കണ്ടു.

7. And the five men go, and come in to Laish, and see the people which [is] in its midst, dwelling confidently, according to the custom of Zidonians, quiet and confident; and there is none putting to shame in the land in [any] thing, possessing restraint, and they [are] far off from the Zidonians, and have no word with [any] man.

8. പിന്നെ അവര് സോരയിലും എസ്തായോലിലും തങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു; സഹോദരന്മാര് അവരോടുനിങ്ങള് എന്തു വര്ത്തമാനം കൊണ്ടുവരുന്നു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അതിന്നു അവര്എഴുന്നേല്പിന് ; നാം അവരുടെ നേരെ ചെല്ലുക; ആ ദേശം ബഹുവിശേഷം എന്നു ഞങ്ങള് കണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; നിങ്ങള് അനങ്ങാതിരിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു? ആ ദേശം കൈവശമാക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു പോകുവാന് മടിക്കരുതു.

8. And they come in unto their brethren, at Zorah and Eshtaol, and their brethren say to them, 'What -- ye?'

9. നിങ്ങള് ചെല്ലുമ്പോള് നിര്ഭയമായിരിക്കുന്ന ഒരു ജനത്തെ കാണും; ദേശം വിശാലമാകുന്നു; ദൈവം അതു നിങ്ങളുടെ കയ്യില് തിന്നിരിക്കുന്നു; അതു ഭൂമിയിലുള്ള യാതൊന്നിന്നും കുറവില്ലാത്ത സ്ഥലം തന്നേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. And they say, 'Rise, and we go up against them, for we have seen the land, and lo, very good; and ye are keeping silent! be not slothful to go -- to enter to possess the land.

10. അനന്തരം സോരയിലും എസ്തായോലിലും ഉള്ള ദാന് ഗോത്രക്കാരില് അറുനൂറു പേര് യുദ്ധസന്നദ്ധരായി അവിടെനിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു.

10. When ye go, ye come in unto a people confident, and the land [is] large on both hands, for God hath given it into your hand, a place where there is no lack of anything which [is] in the land.'

11. അവര് ചെന്നു യെഹൂദയിലെ കിര്യ്യത്ത്-യയാരീമില് പാളയം ഇറങ്ങി; അതുകൊണ്ടു ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു ഇന്നുവരെയും മഹനേ--ദാന് എന്നു പേര് പറയുന്നു; അതു കിര്യ്യത്ത്--യയാരീമിന്റെ പിന് വശത്തു ഇരിക്കുന്നു.

11. And there journey thence, of the family of the Danite, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, six hundred men girded with weapons of war.

12. അവിടെനിന്നു അവര് എഫ്രയീംമലനാട്ടിലേക്കു ചെന്നു മീഖാവിന്റെ വീട്ടിന്നരികെ എത്തി.

12. And they go up and encamp in Kirjath-Jearim, in Judah, therefore they have called that place, 'Camp of Dan,' till this day; lo, behind Kirjath-Jearim.

13. അപ്പോള് ലയീശ് ദേശം ഒറ്റുനോക്കുവാന് പോയിരുന്ന ആ അഞ്ചു പുരുഷന്മാരും തങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരോടുഈ വീടുകളില് ഒരു ഏഫോദും ഒരു ഗൃഹബിംബവും കൊത്തുപണിയും വാര്പ്പുപണിയുമായ ഒരു വിഗ്രഹവും ഉണ്ടു എന്നു അറിഞ്ഞുവോ? ആകയാല് നിങ്ങള് ചെയ്യേണ്ടതു എന്തെന്നു വിചാരിച്ചുകൊള്വിന് .

13. And they pass over thence [to] the hill-country of Ephraim, and come in unto the house of Micah.

14. അവര് അങ്ങോട്ടു തിരിഞ്ഞു മീഖാവിന്റെ വീട്ടിനോടു ചേര്ന്ന ലേവ്യയുവാവിന്റെ വീട്ടില് ചെന്നു അവനോടു കുശലം ചോദിച്ചു.

14. And the five men, those going to traverse the land of Laish, answer and say unto their brethren, 'Have ye known that there is in these houses an ephod, and teraphim, and graven image, and molten image? and now, know what ye do.'

15. യുദ്ധസന്നദ്ധരായ ദാന്യര് അറുനൂറുപേരും വാതില്ക്കല് നിന്നു.

15. And they turn aside thither, and come in unto the house of the young man the Levite, the house of Micah, and ask of him of welfare, --

16. ദേശം ഒറ്റുനോക്കുവാന് പോയിരുന്നവര് അഞ്ചുപേരും അകത്തുകടന്നു കൊത്തുപണിയായ വിഗ്രഹവും ഏഫോദും ഗൃഹബിംബവും വാര്പ്പുപണിയായ വിഗ്രഹവും എടുത്തു; പുരോഹിതന് യുദ്ധസന്നദ്ധരായ അറുനൂറുപേരുടെ അടുക്കല് നിന്നിരുന്നു.

16. (and the six hundred men girded with their weapons of war, who [are] of the sons of Dan, are standing at the opening of the gate), --

17. ഇവര് മീഖാവിന്റെ വീട്ടിന്നകത്തു കടന്നു കൊത്തുപണിയായ വിഗ്രഹവും ഏഫോദും ഗൃഹബിംബവും വാര്പ്പുപണിയായ വിഗ്രഹവും എടുത്തപ്പോള് പുരോഹിതന് അവരോടുനിങ്ങള് എന്തു ചെയ്യുന്നു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

17. yea, the five men, those going to traverse the land, go up -- they have come in thither -- they have taken the graven image, and the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image -- and the priest is standing at the opening of the gate, and the six hundred men who are girded with weapons of war --

18. അവര് അവനോടുമിണ്ടരുതു; നിന്റെ വായ് പൊത്തി ഞങ്ങളോടു കൂടെ വന്നു ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു പിതാവും പുരോഹിതനുമായിരിക്ക; ഒരുവന്റെ വീട്ടിന്നു മാത്രം പുരോഹിതനായിരിക്കുന്നതോ യിസ്രായേലില് ഒരു ഗോത്രത്തിന്നും കുലത്തിന്നും പുരോഹിതനായിരിക്കുന്നതോ ഏതു നിനക്കു നല്ലതു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

18. yea, these have entered the house of Micah, and take the graven image, the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image; and the priest saith unto them, 'What are ye doing?'

19. അപ്പോള് പുരോഹിതന്റെ മനം തെളിഞ്ഞു; അവന് ഏഫോദും ഗൃഹബിംബവും കൊത്തുപണിയായ വിഗ്രഹവും എടുത്തു പടജ്ജനത്തിന്റെ നടുവില് നടന്നു.

19. and they say to him, 'Keep silent, lay thy hand on thy mouth, and go with us, and be to us for a father and for a priest: is it better thy being a priest to the house of one man, or thy being priest to a tribe and to a family in Israel?'

20. ഇങ്ങനെ അവര് പുറപ്പെട്ടു കുഞ്ഞുകുട്ടികളെയും ആടുമാടുകളെയും സമ്പത്തുകളെയും തങ്ങളുടെ മുമ്പിലാക്കി പ്രയാണം ചെയ്തു.

20. And the heart of the priest is glad, and he taketh the ephod, and the teraphim, and the graven image, and goeth into the midst of the people,

21. അവര് മീഖാവിന്റെ വീട്ടില്നിന്നു കുറെ ദൂരത്തായപ്പേള് മീഖാവിന്റെ വീട്ടിനോടു ചേര്ന്ന വീടുകളിലുള്ളവര് ഒരുമിച്ചുകൂടി ദാന്യരെ പിന്തുടര്ന്നു.

21. and they turn and go, and put the infants, and the cattle, and the baggage, before them.

22. അവര് ദാന്യരെ ക്കുകിവിളിച്ചപ്പോള് അവര് തിരിഞ്ഞുനോക്കി മീഖാവിനോടുനീ ഇങ്ങനെ ആള്ക്കൂട്ടത്തോടുകൂടെ വരുവാന് എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

22. They have been far off from the house of Micah -- and the men who [are] in the houses which [are] near the house of Micah have been called together, and overtake the sons of Dan,

23. ഞാന് ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ എന്റെ ദേവന്മാരെയും എന്റെ പുരോഹിതനെയും നിങ്ങള് അപഹരിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്നു; ഇനി എനിക്കു എന്തുള്ളു? നിനക്കു എന്തു എന്നു നിങ്ങള് എന്നോടു ചോദിക്കുന്നതു എങ്ങനെ എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

23. and call unto the sons of Dan, and they turn round their faces, and say to Micah, 'What -- to thee that thou hast been called together?'

24. ദാന്യര് അവനോടുനിന്റെ ഒച്ച ഇവിടെ കേള്ക്കരുതുഅല്ലെങ്കില് ദ്വേഷ്യക്കാര് നിങ്ങളോടു കയര്ത്തിട്ടു നിന്റെ ജീവനും നിന്റെ വീട്ടുകാരുടെ ജീവനും നഷ്ടമാകുവാന് നീ സംഗതിവരുത്തും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

24. And he saith, 'My gods which I made ye have taken, and the priest, and ye go; and what to me more? and what [is] this ye say unto me, What -- to thee!'

25. അങ്ങനെ ദാന്യര് തങ്ങളുടെ വഴിക്കു പോയി; അവര് തന്നിലും ബലവാന്മാര് എന്നു മീഖാവു കണ്ടു വീട്ടിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോന്നു.

25. And the sons of Dan say unto him, 'Let not thy voice be heard with us, lest men bitter in soul fall upon you, and thou hast gathered thy life, and the life of thy household;'

26. മീഖാവു തീര്പ്പിച്ചവയെയും അവന്നു ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന പുരോഹിതനെയും അവര് കൊണ്ടുപോയി, ലയീശില് സ്വൈരവും നിര്ഭയവുമായിരുന്ന ജനത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കല് എത്തി അവരെ വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാല് വെട്ടി, പട്ടണം തീവെച്ചു ചുട്ടുകളഞ്ഞു.

26. and the sons of Dan go on their way, and Micah seeth that they are stronger than he, and turneth, and goeth back unto his house.

27. അതു സീദോന്നു അകലെ ആയിരുന്നു; മറ്റു മനുഷ്യരുമായി അവര്ക്കും സംസര്ഗ്ഗം ഇല്ലായ്കയാല് അവരെ വിടുവിപ്പാന് ആരും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. അതു ബേത്ത്--രെഹോബ് താഴ്വരയില് ആയിരുന്നു. അവര് പട്ടണം വീണ്ടും പണിതു അവിടെ കുടിപാര്ക്കയും

27. And they have taken that which Micah had made, and the priest whom he had, and come in against Laish, against a people quiet and confident, and smite them by the mouth of the sword, and the city have burnt with fire,

28. യിസ്രായേലിന്നു ജനിച്ച തങ്ങളുടെ പിതാവായ ദാന്റെ പേരിന് പ്രകാരം നഗരത്തിന്നു ദാന് എന്നു പേരിടുകയും ചെയ്തു; പണ്ടു ആ പട്ടണത്തിന്നു ലയീശ് എന്നു പേര് ആയിരുന്നു.

28. and there is no deliverer, for it [is] far off from Zidon, and they have no word with [any] man, and it [is] in the valley which [is] by Beth-Rehob; and they build the city, and dwell in it,

29. ദാന്യര് കൊത്തുപണിയായ ആ വിഗ്രഹം പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചു; മോശെയുടെ മകനായ ഗേര്ശോമിന്റെ മകന് യോനാഥാനും അവന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരും ആ ദേശത്തിന്റെ പ്രവാസകാലംവരെ ദാന് ഗോത്രക്കാര്ക്കും പുരോഹിതന്മാരായിരുന്നു.

29. and call the name of the city Dan, by the name of Dan their father, who was born to Israel; and yet Laish [is] the name of the city at the first.

30. ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആലയം ശീലോവില് ആയിരുന്ന കാലത്തൊക്കെയും മീഖാവു തീര്പ്പിച്ച വിഗ്രഹം അവര് വെച്ചു പൂജിച്ചുപോന്നു.

30. And the sons of Dan raise up for themselves the graven image, and Jonathan son of Gershom, son of Manasseh, he and his sons have been priests to the tribe of the Danite, till the day of the removal of [the people] of the land.
