1. എന്നാല് നമ്മില് ആരും തന്റെ മകളെ ഒരു ബെന്യാമീന്യന്നു ഭാര്യയായി കൊടുക്കരുതു എന്നു യിസ്രായേല്യര് മിസ്പയില്വെച്ചു ശപഥം ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.

1. And the men of Israel sware in Mispah, saying: Ther shal none of vs geue his daughter vnto any of Beniamin to wife.

2. ആകയാല് ജനം ബേഥേലില് ചെന്നു അവിടെ ദൈവസന്നിധിയില് സന്ധ്യവരെ ഇരുന്നു ഉച്ചത്തില് മഹാവിലാപം കഴിച്ചു

2. And the people came to the house of God, and abode there till euen, before God, & lift vp their voyces, and wept sore,

3. യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേ, ഇന്നു യിസ്രായേലില് ഒരുഗോത്രം ഇല്ലാതെപോകുവാന് തക്കവണ്ണം യിസ്രായേലില് ഇങ്ങനെ സംഭവിച്ചുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

3. And sayde: O Lorde God of Israel, why is this come to passe in Israel, that there shoulde be this day one tribe lacking in Israel?

4. പിറ്റെന്നാള് ജനം അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റു അവിടെ ഒരു യാഗപീഠം പണിതു ഹോമയാഗങ്ങളും സമാധാനയാഗങ്ങളും അര്പ്പിച്ചു.

4. And on the morowe the people rose vp betyme, and made there an aulter, and offered burnt offeringes and peace offeringes.

5. പിന്നെ യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള്എല്ലായിസ്രായേല്ഗോത്രങ്ങളിലും യഹോവയുടെ അടുക്കല് സഭെക്കു വരാതെ ആരെങ്കിലും ഉണ്ടോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. മിസ്പയില് യഹോവയുടെ അടുക്കല് വരാത്തവന് മരണശിക്ഷ അനുഭവിക്കേണം എന്നു അവര് ഒരു ഉഗ്രശപഥം ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.

5. And the children of Israel sayd: Who is he among al the tribes of Israel, that came not vp with the congregation vnto the Lorde? for they had made a great othe concerning him that came not vp to the Lord to Mispah, saying: He shall surely dye.

6. എന്നാല് യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് തങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരായ ബെന്യാമീന്യരെക്കുറിച്ചു അനുതപിച്ചുഇന്നു യിസ്രായേലില്നിന്നു ഒരു ഗോത്രം അറ്റുപോയിരിക്കുന്നു.

6. And the children of Israel had pitie on Beniamin their brethren, and sayde: There is one tribe cut of from Israel this day:

7. ശേഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവര്ക്കും നമ്മുടെ പുത്രിമാരെ ഭാര്യമാരായി കൊടുക്കരുതു എന്നു നാം യഹോവയുടെ നാമത്തില് സത്യംചെയ്തിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു അവര്ക്കും ഭാര്യമാരെ കിട്ടുവാന് നാം എന്തു ചെയ്യേണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

7. What shall we do vnto the remnaunt of them, that they may haue wiues? we haue sworne by the Lorde, that we wyl not geue the of our daughters to wiues.

8. യിസ്രായേല്ഗോത്രങ്ങളില്നിന്നു മിസ്പയില് യഹോവയുടെ അടുക്കല് വരാതെ ആരെങ്കിലും ഉണ്ടോ എന്നു അവര് അന്വേഷിച്ചപ്പോള് ഗിലെയാദിലെ യാബേശില് നിന്നു ആരും പാളയത്തില് സഭെക്കു വന്നിട്ടില്ല എന്നു കണ്ടു.

8. And they sayde: Is there any of the tribes of Israel, that came not vp to Mispah to the Lord? And behold, there came none of Iabes Gilead vnto the hoaste and congregation.

9. ജനത്തെ എണ്ണിനോക്കിയാറെ ഗിലെയാദിലെ യാബേശ് നിവാസികളില് ആരും അവിടെ ഇല്ല എന്നു കണ്ടു.

9. For the people were viewed, and beholde there were none of the inhabitauntes of Iabes Gilead there.

10. അപ്പോള് സഭ പരാക്രമശാലികളായ പന്തീരായിരംപേരെ അവിടേക്കു അയച്ചു അവരോടു കല്പിച്ചതുനിങ്ങള് ചെന്നു ഗിലെയാദിലെ യാബേശ് നിവാസികളെ സ്ത്രീകളും പൈതങ്ങളും ഉള്പടെ വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാല് കൊല്ലുവിന് .

10. And the congregation sent thyther twelue thousand men of the strongest, and commaunded them, saying: Go, and smyte the inhabitauntes of Iabes Gilead with the edge of the sworde, both women and children.

11. അതില് നിങ്ങള് പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കേണ്ടതു ഇവ്വണ്ണംസകലപുരുഷന്മാരെയും പുരുഷനോടുകൂടെ ശയിച്ച സകലസ്ത്രീകളെയും നിങ്ങള് നിര്മ്മൂലമാക്കേണം.

11. And this is it that ye shall do: ye shall vtterly destroy all the males, and al the women that haue lyen by men.

12. അങ്ങനെ ചെയ്തതില് ഗിലെയാദിലെ യാബേശ് നിവാസികളുടെ ഇടയില് പുരുഷനുമായി ശയിച്ചു പുരുഷസംസര്ഗ്ഗം ചെയ്തിട്ടില്ലാത്ത നാനൂറു കന്യകമാരെ കണ്ടെത്തി അവരെ കനാന് ദേശത്തിലെ ശീലോവില് പാളയത്തിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു.

12. And they found among the inhabitautes of Iabes Gilead foure hundred damoselles, virgins, yt had knowne no man, by lyeng with any male: And they brought them vnto the hoast to Silo, whiche is in the lande of Chanaan.

13. സര്വ്വസഭയും രിമ്മോന് പാറയിലെ ബെന്യാമീന്യരോടു സംസാരിച്ചു സമാധാനം അറിയിപ്പാന് ആളയച്ചു.

13. And the whole congregation sent and spake with the children of Beniamin that were in the rocke of Rimmon, and called peaceably vnto them.

14. അപ്പോള് ബെന്യാമീന്യര് മടങ്ങിവന്നു; ഗിലെയാദിലെ യാബേശിലുള്ള സ്ത്രീകളില്വെച്ചു അവര് ജീവനോടെ രക്ഷിച്ചിരുന്നവരെ അവര്ക്കും കൊടുത്തു;

14. And Beniamin came againe at that time, and they gaue them wyues which they had saued alyue of the woman of Iabes Gilead: But they suffised them not.

15. അവര്ക്കും അവരെക്കൊണ്ടു തികെഞ്ഞില്ല. യഹോവ യിസ്രായേല്ഗോത്രങ്ങളില് ഒരു ഛേദം വരുത്തിയിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു ജനം ബെന്യാമീന്യരെക്കുറിച്ചു ദുഃഖിച്ചു.

15. And the people were sory for Beniamin, because that the Lord had made a breache in the tribes of Israel.

16. ശേഷിച്ചവര്ക്കും സ്ത്രീകളെ കിട്ടേണ്ടതിന്നു നാം എന്തു ചെയ്യേണ്ടു? ബെന്യാമീന് ഗോത്രത്തില്നിന്നു സ്ത്രീകള് അറ്റുപോയിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു സഭയിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാര് പറഞ്ഞു.

16. And then the elders of the congregation, sayd: What shall we do to the remnaunt of them, to get them wiues? seyng all the women of Beniamin are destroyed?

17. യിസ്രായേലില്നിന്നു ഒരു ഗോത്രം നശിച്ചു പോകാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ബെന്യാമീന്യരില് രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടവര്ക്കും അവരുടെ അവകാശം നില്ക്കേണം.

17. And they sayde: There must be an inheritaunce for them that be escaped of Beniamin, that a tribe be not destroyed out of Israel.

18. എങ്കിലും നമുക്കു നമ്മുടെ പുത്രിമാരെ അവര്ക്കും ഭാര്യമാരായി കൊടുത്തുകൂടാ; ബെന്യാമീന്യര്ക്കും സ്ത്രീയെ കൊടുക്കുന്നവന് ശപിക്കപ്പെട്ടവന് എന്നു യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് ശപഥം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു അവര് പറഞ്ഞു.

18. Howbeit, we may not geue the wyues of our daughters. For the children of Israel had sworne, saying: Cursed be he that geueth a wyfe to Beniamin.

19. അപ്പോള് അവര്ബേഥേലിന്നു വടക്കും ബേഥേലില്നിന്നു ശെഖേമിലേക്കു പോകുന്ന പെരുവഴിക്കു കിഴക്കും ലെബോനെക്കു തെക്കും ശീലോവില് ആണ്ടുതോറും യഹോവയുടെ ഉത്സവം ഉണ്ടല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

19. Then they sayde: Behold, there is a feast of ye Lorde yerely in Silo, which is on the northside of Bethel, & on the cast side of the way that goeth from Bethel to Sichem, and south from Libanon.

20. ആകയാല് അവര് ബെന്യാമീന്യരോടുനിങ്ങള് ചെന്നു മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടങ്ങളില് പതിയിരിപ്പിന് .

20. Therfore they commaunded the children of Beniamin, saying: Go, and lye in wayte in the vineyardes.

21. ശീലോവിലെ കന്യകമാര് നിരനിരയായി നൃത്തംചെയ്വാന് പുറപ്പെട്ടു വരുന്നതു നിങ്ങള് കാണുമ്പോള് മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടങ്ങളില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു ഔരോരുത്തന് ശീലോവിലെ കന്യകമാരില്നിന്നു ഭാര്യയെ പിടിച്ചു ബെന്യാമീന് ദേശത്തേക്കു പൊയ്ക്കൊള്വിന് എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

21. And when ye see that the daughters of Silo come out to daunce in daunces, the come ye out of the vineyardes & catche you euery man a wyfe of the daughters of Silo, & go to the lande of Beniamin.

22. അവരുടെ അപ്പന്മാരോ ആങ്ങളമാരോ ഞങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു സങ്കടം പറഞ്ഞാല് ഞങ്ങള് അവരോടുഅവരെ ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു ദാനം ചെയ്വിന് ; നാം പടയില് അവര്ക്കെല്ലാവര്ക്കും ഭാര്യമാരെ പിടിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുവന്നില്ല; നിങ്ങള് കുറ്റക്കാരാകുവാന് നിങ്ങള് ഇക്കാലത്തു അവര്ക്കും കൊടുത്തിട്ടും ഇല്ലല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു കൊള്ളാം.

22. And when their fathers or brethren come vnto vs to complayne, we will say vnto them, Haue pitie on vs for their sakes: because we reserued not to eche man his wyfe in tyme of warre, neither haue ye geuen vnto them, that ye should sinne at this time.

23. ബെന്യാമിന്യര് അങ്ങനെ ചെയ്തു; നൃത്തംചെയ്യുന്ന സ്ത്രീകളെ തങ്ങളുടെ എണ്ണത്തിന്നു ഒത്തവണ്ണം പിടിച്ചു, തങ്ങളുടെ അവകാശത്തിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു പട്ടണങ്ങളെ വീണ്ടും പണിതു അവയില് പാര്ത്തു.

23. And the children of Beniamin did eue so, and toke them wyues according to the numbre of them that dauced, whom they caught: and they went, and returned vnto their inheritaunce, and repayred the cities, and dwelt in them.

24. യിസ്രായേല്മക്കളും ആ കാലത്തു അവിടം വിട്ടു ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ ഗോത്രത്തിലേക്കും വീട്ടിലേക്കും പോയി; അങ്ങനെ അവര് അവിടം വിട്ടു ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ അവകാശത്തിലേക്കു ചെന്നു.

24. And the children of Israel departed thence at that tyme, & went euery man to his tribe, and to his kinred, and went out from thence euery man to his inheritaunce.

25. ആ കാലത്തു യിസ്രായേലില് രാജാവില്ലായിരുന്നു; ഔരോരുത്തന് തനിക്കു ബോധിച്ചതുപോലെ നടന്നു.

25. In those dayes there was no king in Israel: but euery man dyd that whiche seemed right in his owne eyes.
