1. അനന്തരം ശൌല് തന്റെ മകനായ യോനാഥാനോടും സകല ഭൃത്യന്മാരോടും ദാവീദിനെ കൊല്ലേണം എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

1. And Saul spoke to his son Jonathan, and to all his servants, to kill David.

2. എങ്കിലും ശൌലിന്റെ മകനായ യോനാഥാന്നു ദാവീദിനോടു വളരെ ഇഷ്ടമായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു യോനാഥാന് ദാവീദിനോടുഎന്റെ അപ്പനായ ശൌല് നിന്നെ കൊല്ലുവാന് നോക്കുന്നു; ആകയാല് നീ രാവിലെ സൂക്ഷിച്ചു ഗൂഢമായോരു സ്ഥലത്തു ഒളിച്ചുപാര്ക്ക.

2. And Saul's son Jonathan delighted exceedingly in David. And Jonathan told David, saying, My father Saul is seeking to kill you. And, now, please be on guard in the morning, and you shall stay in the secret place, and shall hide.

3. ഞാന് പുറപ്പെട്ടു നീ ഇരിക്കുന്ന വയലില് എന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ അടുക്കല് നിന്നെക്കുറിച്ചു എന്റെ അപ്പനോടു സംസാരിക്കും; ഞാന് ഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നതു നിന്നെ അറിയിക്കാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

3. And I, I will go out and will stand by my father's side in the field where you are. And I will speak of you to my father, and shall see what it is, and will tell you.

4. അങ്ങനെ യോനാഥാന് തന്റെ അപ്പനായ ശൌലിനോടു ദാവീദിനെക്കുറിച്ചു ഗുണമായി സംസാരിച്ചുപറഞ്ഞതുരാജാവു തന്റെ ഭൃത്യനായ ദാവീദിനോടു ദോഷം ചെയ്യരുതേ; അവന് നിന്നോടു ദോഷം ചെയ്തിട്ടില്ല; അവന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തികള് നിനക്കു ഏറ്റവും ഗുണകരമായിരുന്നതേയുള്ളു.

4. And Jonathan spoke good of David to his father Saul, and said to him, Do not let the king sin against his servant, against David, because he has not sinned against you; also because his works for you are very good.

5. അവന് തന്റെ ജീവനെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചുകൊണ്ടല്ലോ ആ ഫെലിസ്ത്യനെ സംഹരിക്കയും അങ്ങനെ യഹോവ എല്ലാ യിസ്രായേലിന്നും വലിയോരു രക്ഷവരുത്തുകയും ചെയ്തതു; നീ അതു കണ്ടു സന്തോഷിച്ചു. ആകയാല് നീ വെറുതെ ദാവീദിനെ കൊന്നു കുറ്റമില്ലാത്ത രക്തം ചൊരിഞ്ഞു പാപം ചെയ്യുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു?

5. Yea, he has put his life in his hand and killed the Philistine. And Jehovah worked a great deliverance for all Israel. You saw it and rejoiced. And why do you sin against innocent blood, to put David to death for no reason?

6. യോനാഥാന്റെ വാക്കു കേട്ടുയഹോവയാണ അവനെ കൊല്ലുകയില്ല എന്നു ശൌല് സത്യം ചെയ്തു.

6. And Saul listened to Jonathan's voice, and Saul swore, As Jehovah lives he shall not die.

7. പിന്നെ യോനാഥാന് ദാവീദിനെ വിളിച്ചു കാര്യമെല്ലാം അറിയിച്ചു. യോനാഥാന് ദാവീദിനെ ശൌലിന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു; അവന് മുമ്പിലത്തെപ്പോലെ അവന്റെ സന്നിധിയില്നില്ക്കയും ചെയ്തു.

7. And Jonathan called David, and Jonathan told him all these words. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was before him as yesterday and the day before.

8. പിന്നെയും യുദ്ധം ഉണ്ടായാറെ ദാവീദ് പുറപ്പെട്ടു ഫെലിസ്ത്യരോടു പടവെട്ടി അവരെ കഠിനമായി തോല്പിച്ചു. അവര് അവന്റെ മുമ്പില്നിന്നു ഔടി.

8. And there was war again. And David went out and fought against the Philistines, and struck among them with a great slaughter. And they fled from his face.

9. യഹോവയുടെ പക്കല്നിന്നു ദുരാത്മാവു പിന്നെയും ശൌലിന്റെമേല് വന്നു; അവന് കയ്യില് കുന്തവും പിടിച്ചു തന്റെ അരമനയില് ഇരിക്കയായിരുന്നു; ദാവീദ് കിന്നരം വായിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

9. And the evil spirit from Jehovah was on Saul. And he was sitting in his house, and his spear in his hand. And David was playing with the hand.

10. അപ്പോള് ശൌല് ദാവീദിനെ കുന്തംകൊണ്ടു ചുവരോടുചേര്ത്തു കുത്തുവാന് നോക്കി; അവനോ ശൌലിന്റെ മുമ്പില്നിന്നു മാറിക്കളഞ്ഞു. കുന്തം ചുവരില് തറെച്ചു; ദാവീദ് ആ രാത്രിയില്തന്നേ ഔടിപ്പോയി രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു.

10. And Saul tried to strike with the spear through David and through the wall. But he burst forth from Saul's presence. And he struck the spear through the wall. And David fled, and escaped during that night.

11. ദാവീദിനെ കാത്തുനിന്നു രാവിലെ കൊന്നുകളയേണ്ടതിന്നു ശൌല് അവന്റെ വീട്ടിലേക്കു ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചു; ദാവീദിന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ മീഖള് അവനോടുഈ രാത്രിയില് നിന്റെ ജീവനെ രക്ഷിച്ചുകൊണ്ടില്ലെങ്കില് നാളെ നിന്നെ കൊന്നുപോകും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

11. And Saul sent messengers to David's house to watch him, and to kill him in the morning. And his wife Michal told David, saying, If you do not escape with your life tonight, tomorrow you will be killed.

12. അങ്ങനെ മീഖള് ദാവീദിനെ കിളിവാതില്കൂടി ഇറക്കിവിട്ടു; അവന് ഔടിപ്പോയി രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു.

12. And Michal made David go down through the window. And he went, and fled, and escaped.

13. മീഖള് ഒരു ബിംബം എടുത്തു കട്ടിലിന്മേല് കിടത്തി, അതിന്റെ തലെക്കു കോലാട്ടുരോമംകൊണ്ടുള്ള മൂടിയും ഇട്ടു ഒരു വസ്ത്രംകൊണ്ടു പുതപ്പിച്ചു.

13. And Michal took an image and laid it on the bed; and she put the quilt of goat's hair at his head-place, and covered with a spread.

14. ദാവീദിനെ പിടിപ്പാന് ശൌല് ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചപ്പോള് അവന് ദീനമായി കിടക്കുന്നു എന്നു അവള് പറഞ്ഞു.

14. And Saul sent messengers to take David. And she said, He is sick.

15. എന്നാറെ ശൌല്ഞാന് അവനെ കൊല്ലേണ്ടതിന്നു കിടക്കയോടെ എന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവരുവിന് എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

15. And Saul sent the messengers to see David, saying, Bring him up to me in the bed, to kill him.

16. ദാവീദിനെ ചെന്നു നോക്കുവാന് ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചു. ദൂതന്മാര് ചെന്നപ്പോള് കട്ടിലിന്മേല് ഒരു ബിംബം തലെക്കു കോലാട്ടുരോമംകൊണ്ടുള്ള ഒരു മൂടിയുമായി കിടക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു.

16. And the messengers came in. And, behold, the image was on the bed, and the quilt of goat's hair was at his head-place.

17. എന്നാറെ ശൌല് മീഖളിനോടുനീ ഇങ്ങനെ എന്നെ ചതിക്കയും എന്റെ ശത്രു ചാടിപ്പോകുവാന് അവനെ വിട്ടയക്കയും ചെയ്തതു എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുഎന്നെ വിട്ടയക്ക; അല്ലെങ്കില് ഞാന് നിന്നെ കൊല്ലും എന്നു അവന് എന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞു എന്നു മീഖള് ശൌലിനോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

17. And Saul said to Michal, Why have you deceived me this way, that you have sent away my enemy, and he has escaped? And Michal said to Saul, He said to me, Send me away; why should I kill you?

18. ഇങ്ങനെ ദാവീദ് ഔടിപ്പോയി രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു, രാമയില് ശമൂവേലിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു ശൌല് തന്നോടു ചെയ്തതൊക്കെയും അവനോടു അറിയിച്ചു. പിന്നെ അവനും ശമൂവേലും പുറപ്പെട്ടു നയ്യോത്തില് ചെന്നു പാര്ത്തു.

18. And David fled, and escaped, and came to Samuel at Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he went, he and Samuel, and they lived in Naioth.

19. അനന്തരം ദാവീദ് രാമയിലെ നയ്യോത്തില് ഉണ്ടു എന്നു ശൌലിന്നു അറിവു കിട്ടി.

19. And it was told to Saul, saying, Behold, David is in Naioth in Ramah.

20. ശൌല് ദാവീദിനെ പിടിപ്പാന് ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചു; അവര് പ്രവാചകസംഘം പ്രവചിക്കുന്നതും ശമൂവേല് അവരുടെ തലവനായിരിക്കുന്നതും കണ്ടപ്പോള് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആത്മാവു ശൌലിന്റെ ദൂതന്മാരുടെ മേലും വന്നു, അവരും പ്രവചിച്ചു.

20. And Saul sent messengers to take David. And they saw the assembly of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as head over them. And the Spirit of God came on Saul's messengers, and they also prophesied.

21. ശൌല് അതു അറിഞ്ഞപ്പോള് വേറെ ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചു; അവരും അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ പ്രവചിച്ചു. ശൌല് പിന്നെയും മൂന്നാം പ്രാവശ്യം ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചു; അവരും പ്രവചിച്ചു.

21. And they told Saul, and he sent other messengers. And they also prophesied. And again Saul sent messengers, a third time. And they also prophesied.

22. പിന്നെ അവന് തന്നേ രാമയിലേക്കു പോയി, സേക്ക്കുവിലെ വലിയ കിണറ്റിങ്കല് എത്തിശമൂവേലും ദാവീദും എവിടെയാകുന്നു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അവര് രാമയിലെ നയ്യോത്തില് ഉണ്ടു എന്നു ഒരുത്തന് പറഞ്ഞു.

22. And he went, he also, to Ramah, and came to the great well in Sechu. And Saul asked and said, Where are Samuel and David? And one said, Behold, in Naioth in Ramah.

23. അങ്ങനെ അവന് രാമയിലെ നയ്യോത്തിന്നു ചെന്നു; ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആത്മാവു അവന്റെമേലും വന്നു; അവന് രാമയിലെ നയ്യോത്തില് എത്തുംവരെ പ്രവചിച്ചു കൊണ്ടു നടന്നു.

23. And he went there, to Naioth in Ramah, and the Spirit of God was on him, him also. And going on, he went and prophesied until he came into Naioth in Ramah.

24. അവന് തന്റെ വസ്ത്രം ഉരിഞ്ഞുകളഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ ശമൂവേലിന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ പ്രവചിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു അന്നു രാപകല് മുഴുവനും നഗ്നനായി കിടന്നു. ആകയാല് ശൌലും ഉണ്ടോ പ്രവാചകഗണത്തില് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുവരുന്നു.

24. And he stripped off his garments, he also, and he prophesied before Samuel, even he. And he fell down disrobed all that day and all that night. Because of this they say, Is Saul also among the prophets?
