1. ശമൂവേല് മരിച്ചു; യിസ്രായേല് ഒക്കെയും ഒരുമിച്ചുകൂടി അവനെക്കുറിച്ചു വിലപിച്ചു, രാമയില് അവന്റെ വീട്ടിന്നരികെ അവനെ അടക്കം ചെയ്തു. ദാവീദ് പുറപ്പെട്ടു പാരാന് മരുഭൂമിയില് പോയി പാര്ത്തു.

1. And Samuel died; and all Israel gathered together and mourned for him, and buried him at his home at Ramah. And David arose and went down to the wilderness of Paran.

2. കര്മ്മേലില് വ്യാപാരമുള്ള ഒരു മാവോന്യന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന് മഹാ ധനികനായിരുന്നു; അവന്നു മൂവായിരം ചെമ്മരിയാടും ആയിരം കോലാടും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന്നു കര്മ്മേലില് ആടുകളെ രോമം കത്രിക്കുന്ന അടിയന്തരം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

2. And there was a man in Maon whose business was in Carmel, and the man was very great. He had three thousand sheep and a thousand goats. And he was shearing his sheep in Carmel.

3. അവന്നു നാബാല് എന്നും അവന്റെ ഭാര്യകൂ അബീഗയില്എന്നും പേര്. അവള് നല്ല വിവേകമുള്ളവളും സുന്ദരിയും അവനോ നിഷ്ഠൂരനും ദുഷ്കര്മ്മിയും ആയിരുന്നു. അവന് കാലേബ് വംശക്കാരന് ആയിരുന്നു.

3. The name of the man was Nabal, and the name of his wife Abigail. And she was a woman of good understanding and beautiful appearance; but the man was harsh and evil in his dealings. And he was of the house of Caleb.

4. നാബാലിന്നു ആടുകളെ രോമം കത്രിക്കുന്ന അടിയന്തരം ഉണ്ടെന്നു ദാവീദ് മരുഭൂമിയില് കേട്ടു.

4. When David heard in the wilderness that Nabal was shearing his sheep,

5. ദാവീദ് പത്തു ബാല്യക്കാരെ അയച്ചു, അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞതുനിങ്ങള് കര്മ്മേലില് നാബാലിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു എന്റെ പേരില് അവന്നു വന്ദനം ചൊല്ലി

5. David sent ten young men; and David said to the young men, Go up to Carmel, and when you have come to Nabal, and asked after his welfare in my name,

6. നന്നായിരിക്കട്ടെ; നിനക്കും നിന്റെ ഭവനത്തിന്നും നന്നായിരിക്കട്ടെ; നിനക്കുള്ള സകലത്തിന്നും നന്നായിരിക്കട്ടെ.

6. you shall say to him: Long life and peace to you, peace to your house, and peace to all that you have!

7. നിനക്കു ആടുകളെ രോമം കത്രിക്കുന്ന അടിയന്തരം ഉണ്ടെന്നു ഞാന് കേട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. നിന്റെ ഇടയന്മാര് ഞങ്ങളോടു കൂടെ ഇരുന്നപ്പോള് ഞങ്ങള് അവരെ ഉപദ്രവിച്ചില്ല; അവര് കര്മ്മേലില് ഇരുന്ന കാലത്തൊക്കെയും അവര്ക്കും ഒന്നും കാണാതെ പോയതുമില്ല.

7. Now I have heard that you have shearers. Your shepherds were with us, and we have not hurt them, nor has there been anything missing from them all the days they were in Carmel.

8. നിന്റെ ബാല്യക്കാരോടു ചോദിച്ചാല് അവരും നിന്നോടു പറയും; അതുകൊണ്ടു ഈ ബാല്യക്കാരോടു ദയതോന്നേണം; നല്ല നാളിലല്ലോ ഞങ്ങള് വന്നിരിക്കുന്നതു; നിന്റെ കയ്യില് വരുന്നതു അടിയങ്ങള്ക്കും നിന്റെ മകനായ ദാവീദിന്നും തരേണമേ എന്നു അവനോടു പറവിന് .

8. Ask your young men, and they will tell you. Therefore let the young men find favor in your eyes, for we come on a pleasant day. Please give whatever your hand finds to your servants and to your son David.

9. ദാവീദിന്റെ ബാല്യക്കാര് ചെന്നു നാബാലിനോടു ഈ വാക്കുകളെല്ലാം ദാവീദിന്റെ പേരില് അറിയിച്ചു കാത്തുനിന്നു.

9. And when David's young men came, they spoke to Nabal according to all these words in the name of David, and waited.

10. നാബാല് ദാവീദിന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരോടുദാവീദ് ആര്? യിശ്ശായിയുടെ മകന് ആര്? യജമാനന്മാരെ വിട്ടു പൊയ്ക്കളയുന്ന ദാസന്മാര് ഇക്കാലത്തു വളരെ ഉണ്ടു.

10. And Nabal answered David's servants, and said, Who is David, and who is the son of Jesse? There are many servants these days breaking away each one from his master.

11. ഞാന് എന്റെ അപ്പവും വെള്ളവും എന്റെ ആടുകളെ രോമം കത്രിക്കുന്നവര്ക്കായി ഒരുക്കിയ മാംസവും എടുത്തു എവിടുത്തുകാര് എന്നു അറിയാത്തവര്ക്കും കൊടുക്കുമോ എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

11. Shall I then take my bread and my water and my meat that I have killed for my shearers, and give it to men when I do not know where they are from?

12. ദാവീദിന്റെ ബാല്യക്കാര് മടങ്ങിവന്നു വിവരമൊക്കെയും അവനോടു അറിയിച്ചു.

12. So David's young men turned around on their way, returned and came and reported to him all these words.

13. അപ്പോള് ദാവീദ് തന്റെ ആളുകളോടുഎല്ലാവരും വാള് അരെക്കു കെട്ടിക്കൊള്വിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവര് എല്ലാവരും വാള് അരെക്കു കെട്ടി; ദാവീദും വാള് അരെക്കു കെട്ടി; ഏകദേശം നാനൂറുപേര് ദാവീദിന്റെ പിന്നാലെ പുറപ്പെട്ടുപോയി; ഇരുനൂറുപേര് സാമാനങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കല് പാര്ത്തു.

13. And David said to his men, Every man gird on his sword. So every man girded on his sword, and David also girded on his sword. And about four hundred men went up after David, and two hundred stayed with the supplies.

14. എന്നാല് ബാല്യക്കാരില് ഒരുത്തന് നാബാലിന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ അബീഗയിലിനോടു പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാല്ദാവീദ് നമ്മുടെ യജമാനന്നു വന്ദനം ചൊല്ലുവാന് മരുഭൂമിയില്നിന്നു ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചു; അവനോ അവരെ ശകാരിച്ചു അയച്ചു.

14. Now one of the young men told Abigail, Nabal's wife, saying, Behold, David had sent messengers from the wilderness to bless our master; and he yelled at them.

15. എന്നാല് ആ പുരുഷന്മാര് ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു ഏറ്റവും ഉപകാരമുള്ളവരായിരുന്നു; ഞങ്ങള് വയലില് അവരുമായി സഹവാസം ചെയ്തിരുന്ന കാലത്തൊരിക്കലും അവര് ഞങ്ങളെ ഉപദ്രവിച്ചില്ല; ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു ഒന്നും കാണാതെ പോയതുമില്ല.

15. But the men were very good to us, and we have not been shamed, nor have we missed anything all the days we have traversed with them, when we were in the fields.

16. ഞങ്ങള് ആടുകളെ മേയിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു അവരോടുകൂടെ ആയിരുന്നപ്പോഴൊക്കെയും രാവും പകലും അവര് ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു ഒരു മതില് ആയിരുന്നു.

16. They have been a wall to us both by night and day, all the days we were with them keeping the sheep.

17. ആകയാല് ഇപ്പോള് ചെയ്യേണ്ടതു എന്തെന്നു ആലോചിച്ചുനോക്കേണം; നമ്മുടെ യജമാനന്നും അവന്റെ സകലഭവനത്തിന്നും ദോഷം നിര്ണ്ണയിച്ചുപോയിരിക്കുന്നു; അവനോ ദുസ്സ്വഭാവിയാകകൊണ്ടു അവനോടു ആര്ക്കും ഒന്നും മിണ്ടിക്കൂടാ.

17. Now therefore, know and consider what you will do, for harm is determined against our master and against all his household. For he is a son of worthlessness, that no one can speak to him.

18. ഉടനെ അബീഗയില് ഇരുനൂറു അപ്പവും രണ്ടു തുരുത്തി വീഞ്ഞും പാകം ചെയ്ത അഞ്ചു ആടും അഞ്ചു പറ മലരും നൂറു ഉണക്ക മുന്തിരിക്കുലയും ഇരുനൂറു അത്തിയടയും എടുത്തു കഴുതപ്പുറത്തു കയറ്റി ബാല്യക്കാരോടു;

18. Then Abigail made haste and took two hundred loaves of bread, two skins of wine, five sheep already done, five measures of roasted grain, one hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of figs, and loaded them on donkeys.

19. നിങ്ങള് എനിക്കു മുമ്പായി പോകുവിന് ; ഞാന് ഇതാ, പിന്നാലെ വരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. തന്റെ ഭര്ത്താവായ നാബാലിനോടു അവള് ഒന്നും അറിയിച്ചില്ലതാനും.

19. And she said to her servants, Go on before me; behold, I am coming after you. But she did not tell her husband Nabal.

20. And so it was, as she rode on the donkey, that she went down under cover of the hill; and behold, David and his men were coming down toward her; and she met them.

21. എന്നാല് ദാവീദ്മരുഭൂമിയില് അവന്നു ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതൊക്കെയും ഞാന് വെറുതെയല്ലോ കാത്തതു; അവന്റെ വക ഒന്നും കാണാതെ പോയതുമില്ല; അവനോ നന്മെക്കു പകരം എനിക്കു തിന്മചെയ്തു.

21. Now David had thought to himself, Surely in vain I have protected all that this fellow has in the wilderness, so that nothing has been missing of all that belongs to him. And he has repaid me evil for good.

22. അവന്നുള്ള സകലത്തിലും പുരുഷപ്രജയായ ഒന്നിനെയെങ്കിലും പുലരുംവരെ ഞാന് ജീവനോടെ വെച്ചേച്ചാല് ദൈവം ദാവീദിന്റെ ശത്രുക്കള്ക്കു തക്കവണ്ണവും അധികവും ചെയ്യട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നു.

22. God do so, and more also, to the enemies of David, if I leave to him by morning light any of those who urinate against a wall.

23. അബീഗയില് ദാവീദിനെ കണ്ടപ്പോള് ക്ഷണത്തില് കഴുതപ്പുറത്തുനിന്നു ഇറങ്ങി ദാവീദിന്റെ മുമ്പില് സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു നമസ്കരിച്ചു.

23. Now when Abigail saw David, she hastened to dismount from the donkey, fell on her face before David, and prostrated to the ground.

24. അവള് അവന്റെ കാല്ക്കല് വീണു പറഞ്ഞതുയജമാനനേ, കുറ്റം എന്റെമേല് ഇരിക്കട്ടെ; അടിയന് ഒന്നു ബോധിപ്പിച്ചുകൊള്ളട്ടെ; അടിയന്റെ വാക്കുകളെ കേള്ക്കേണമേ.

24. And she fell at his feet and said: On me, my lord, on me be this iniquity! And please let your handmaid speak in your ears, and hear the words of your handmaid.

25. ദുസ്സ്വഭാവിയായ ഈ നാബാലിനെ യജമാനന് ഗണ്യമാക്കരുതേ; അവന് തന്റെ പേര്പോലെ തന്നെ ആകുന്നു; നാബാല് എന്നല്ലോ അവന്റെ പേര്; ഭോഷത്വം അത്രേ അവന്റെ പക്കല് ഉള്ളതു. അടിയനോ, യജമാനന് അയച്ച ബാല്യക്കാരെ കണ്ടിരുന്നില്ല.

25. Please, let not my lord set his heart on this man of worthlessness, Nabal. For as his name is, so is he: Nabal is his name, and folly is with him. But I, your handmaid, did not see the young men of my lord whom you sent.

26. ആകയാല് യജമാനനേ, യഹോവയാണ, നിന്നാണ, രക്തപാതകവും സ്വന്തകയ്യാല് പ്രതികാരവും ചെയ്യാതവണ്ണം യഹോവ നിന്നെ തടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു; നിന്റെ ശത്രുക്കളും യജമാനന്നു ദോഷം വിചാരിക്കുന്നവരും നാബാലിനെപ്പോലെ ആകട്ടെ.

26. Now therefore, my lord, as Jehovah lives and as your soul lives, since Jehovah has held you back from coming to blood and from delivering yourself with your own hand, now then, let your enemies and those who seek evil upon my lord be as Nabal.

27. ഇപ്പോള് യജമാനന്റെ അടുക്കല് അടിയന് കൊണ്ടുവന്നിരിക്കുന്ന ഈ കാഴ്ച യജമാനന്റെ പരിചാരകരായ ബാല്യക്കാര്ക്കും ഇരിക്കട്ടെ.

27. And now this blessing which your handmaid has brought to my lord, let it be given to the young men who travel on foot with my lord.

28. അടിയന്റെ കുറ്റം ക്ഷമിക്കേണമേ, യഹോവ യജമാനന്നു സ്ഥിരമായോരു ഭവനം പണിയും; യഹോവയുടെ യുദ്ധങ്ങളെയല്ലോ യജമാനന് നടത്തുന്നതു. ആയുഷ്കാലത്തൊരിക്കലും നിന്നില് ദോഷം കാണുകയില്ല.

28. Please forgive the trespass of your handmaid; for Jehovah will bring about to prepare an established house for my lord, because my lord is fighting the battles of Jehovah, and evil is not found in you all your days.

29. മനുഷ്യന് നിന്നെ പിന്തുര്ന്നു നിനക്കു ജീവഹാനി വരുത്തുവാന് എഴുന്നേറ്റാലും യജമാനന്റെ പ്രാണന് നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയുടെ പക്കല് ജീവഭാണ്ഡത്തില് കെട്ടപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കും; നിന്റെ ശത്രുക്കളുടെ പ്രാണങ്ങളെയോ അവന് കവിണയുടെ തടത്തില്നിന്നു എന്നപോലെ എറിഞ്ഞുകളയും.

29. If a man arises to pursue you and seek your soul, the soul of my lord shall be bound up in the bundle of life with Jehovah your God; and the souls of your enemies He shall sling out, as from the pocket of a sling.

30. എന്നാല് യഹോവ യജമാനന്നു വാഗ്ദാനം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്ന എല്ലാ നന്മയും നിവൃത്തിച്ചുതന്നു നിന്നെ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു പ്രഭുവാക്കി വേക്കുമ്പോള്

30. And it shall come to pass, when Jehovah has done for my lord according to all the good that He has spoken concerning you, and has appointed you ruler over Israel,

31. അകാരണമായി രക്തം ചിന്നുകയും യജമാനന് താന് തന്നേ പ്രതികാരം നടത്തുകയും ചെയ്തുപോയി എന്നുള്ള ചഞ്ചലവും മനോവ്യഥയും യജമാനന്നു ഉണ്ടാകയില്ല; എന്നാല് യഹോവ യജമാനന്നു നന്മ ചെയ്യുമ്പോള് അടിയനെയും ഔര്ത്തുകൊള്ളേണമേ.

31. that this will not be a matter of conscience, nor stumbling of heart to my lord, either that you have shed blood without cause, or that my lord has delivered himself. But when Jehovah has dealt well with my lord, then remember your handmaid.

32. ദാവീദ് അബീഗയിലിനോടു പറഞ്ഞതുഎന്നെ എതിരേല്പാന് നിന്നെ ഇന്നു അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേക്കു സ്തോത്രം.

32. And David said to Abigail: Blessed is Jehovah the God of Israel, who sent you this day to meet me!

33. നിന്റെ വിവേകം സ്തുത്യം; രക്തപാതകവും സ്വന്തകയ്യാല് പ്രതികാരവും ചെയ്യാതവണ്ണം എന്നെ ഇന്നു തടുത്തിരിക്കുന്ന നീയും അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടവള്.

33. And blessed is your discernment and blessed are you, because you have kept me this day from coming to blood and from delivering myself with my own hand.

34. നിന്നോടു ദോഷം ചെയ്യാതവണ്ണം എന്നെ തടുത്തിരിക്കുന്ന യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയാണ, നീ ബദ്ധപ്പെട്ടു എന്നെ എതിരേറ്റു വന്നിരുന്നില്ലെങ്കില് നേരം പുലരുമ്പോഴേക്കു പുരുഷപ്രജയൊന്നും നാബാലിന്നു ശേഷിക്കയില്ലായിരുന്നു.

34. For indeed, as Jehovah the God of Israel lives, who has kept me back from hurting you, unless you had hastened and come to meet me, surely by morning light there would not have been left to Nabal any who urinate against a wall!

35. പിന്നെ അവള് കൊണ്ടുവന്നതു ദാവീദ് അവളുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു വാങ്ങി അവളോടുസമാധാനത്തോടെ വീട്ടിലേക്കു പോക; ഇതാ, ഞാന് നിന്റെ വാക്കു കേട്ടു നിന്റെ മുഖം ആദരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

35. So David received from her hand what she had brought to him, and said to her, Go up to your house in peace. Behold, I have heeded your voice and respected your face.

36. അബീഗയില് നാബാലിന്റെ അടുക്കല് എത്തിയപ്പോള് അവന് തന്റെ വീട്ടില് രാജവിരുന്നുപോലെ ഒരു വിരുന്നു കഴിക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു; നാബാലിന്റെ ഹൃദയം ആനന്ദത്തിലായി അവന്നു നന്നാ ലഹരിപിടിച്ചിരുന്നു; അതുകൊണ്ടു അവള് നേരം വെളുക്കുംവരെ വിവരം ഒന്നും അവനെ അറിയിച്ചില്ല.

36. And Abigail came to Nabal, and behold, he was holding a feast in his house, like the feast of a king. And Nabal's heart was merry within him, for he was exceedingly drunk; therefore she did not tell him a word, little or much, until morning light.

37. എന്നാല് രാവിലെ നാബാലിന്റെ വീഞ്ഞു ഇറങ്ങിയശേഷം അവന്റെ ഭാര്യ അവനോടു വിവരം അറിയിച്ചപ്പോള് അവന്റെ ഹൃദയം അവന്റെ ഉള്ളില് നിര്ജ്ജീവമായി അവന് കല്ലിച്ചുപോയി.

37. And it came to pass in the morning, when the wine had gone out of Nabal, and his wife had informed him of these things, that his heart died within him, and he became like a stone.

38. പത്തുദിവസം കഴിഞ്ഞശേഷം യഹോവ നാബാലിനെ ദണ്ഡിപ്പിച്ചു, അവന് മരിച്ചുപോയി.

38. And it came to pass, after about ten days, that Jehovah struck Nabal, and he died.

39. നാബാല് മരിച്ചു എന്നു ദാവീദ് കേട്ടപ്പോള്എന്നെ നിന്ദിച്ച നിന്ദെക്കായിട്ടു നാബാലിനോടു വ്യവഹരിക്കയും തന്റെ ദാസനെ തിന്മചെയ്യാതവണ്ണം തടുക്കയും ചെയ്ത യഹോവേക്കു സ്തോത്രം. നാബാലിന്റെ ദുഷ്ടത യഹോവ അവന്റെ തലയില് തന്നേ വരുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. പിന്നെ ദാവീദ് അബീഗയിലിനെ തനിക്കു ഭാര്യയായിപരിഗ്രഹിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവളോടു സംസാരിപ്പാന് ആളയച്ചു.

39. And when David heard that Nabal had died, he said, Blessed is Jehovah, who has pleaded the cause of my reproach at the hand of Nabal, and has kept His servant from evil! For Jehovah has returned the evil of Nabal upon his own head. And David sent and spoke to Abigail, to take her as his wife.

40. ദാവീദിന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാര് കര്മ്മേലില് അബീഗയിലിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു അവളോടുനീ ദാവീദിന്നു ഭാര്യയായ്തീരുവാന് നിന്നെ കൊണ്ടുചെല്ലേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞങ്ങളെ അവന് നിന്റെ അടുക്കല് അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

40. And when the servants of David came to Abigail at Carmel, they spoke to her saying, David has sent us to you to take you to him for a wife.

41. അവള് എഴുന്നേറ്റു നിലംവരെ തലകുനിച്ചുഇതാ, അടിയന് യജമാനന്റെ ദാസന്മാരുടെ കാലുകളെ കഴുകുന്ന ദാസി എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

41. And she arose, bowed her face to the earth, and said, Behold, your handmaid, a servant to wash the feet of the servants of my lord.

42. ഉടനെ അബീഗയില് എഴുന്നേറ്റു തന്റെ പരിചാരകികളായ അഞ്ചു ബാല്യക്കാരത്തികളുമായി കഴുതപ്പുറത്തു കയറി ദാവീദിന്റെ ദൂതന്മാരോടുകൂടെ ചെന്നു അവന്നു ഭാര്യയായി തീര്ന്നു.

42. And Abigail hurried and rose up and rode on a donkey, with five of her maidens going on foot; and she went after the messengers of David, and became his wife.

43. യിസ്രായേലില്നിന്നു ദാവീദ് അഹീനോവമിനെയും കൊണ്ടുവന്നു; അവര് ഇരുവരും അവന്നു ഭാര്യമാരായ്തീര്ന്നു.

43. David also took Ahinoam of Jezreel; both of them were his wives.

44. ശൌലോ തന്റെ മകളും ദാവീദിന്റെ ഭാര്യയുമായിരുന്ന മീഖളിനെ ഗല്ലീമ്യനായ ലയീശിന്റെ മകന് ഫല്തിക്കു കൊടുത്തിരുന്നു.

44. And Saul had given Michal his daughter, David's wife, to Palti the son of Laish, who was from Gallim.
