1. ദാവീദും അവന്റെ ആളുകളും മൂന്നാം ദിവസം സിക്ളാഗില് എത്തിയപ്പോള് അമാലേക്യര് തെക്കെദേശവും സിക്ളാഗും ആക്രമിച്ചു സിക്ളാഗിനെ ജയിച്ചു അതിനെ തീവെച്ചു ചുട്ടുകളഞ്ഞിരുന്നു.

1. And it came to pass, when David and his men had come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had made a raid on the South, and on Ziklag, and had struck Ziklag, and burned it with fire,

2. അവിടെയുള്ള വലിയവരും ചെറിയവരുമായ സ്ത്രീകളെ പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു തങ്ങളുടെ വഴിക്കു പോയതല്ലാതെ ആരെയും കൊന്നില്ല.

2. and had taken captive the women who were in it, both small and great: they did not slay any, but carried them off, and went their way.

3. ദാവീദും അവന്റെ ആളുകളും പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു വന്നപ്പോള് അതു തീവെച്ചു ചുട്ടിരിക്കുന്നതും ഭാര്യമാരെയും പുത്രീപുത്രന്മാരെയും അടിമകളായി കൊണ്ടുപോയിരിക്കുന്നതും കണ്ടു.

3. And when David and his men came to the city, look, it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captive.

4. അപ്പോള് ദാവീദും കൂടെയുള്ള ജനവും കരവാന് ബലമില്ലാതാകുവോളം ഉറക്കെ കരഞ്ഞു.

4. Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep.

5. യിസ്രെയേല്ക്കാരത്തി അഹീനോവം, കര്മ്മേല്ക്കാരന് നാബാലിന്റെ ഭാര്യയായിരുന്ന അബീഗയില് എന്നീ ദാവീദിന്റെ രണ്ടു ഭാര്യമാരെയും അവര് പിടിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുപോയിരുന്നു.

5. And David's two wives were taken captive, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.

6. ദാവീദ് വലിയ കഷ്ടത്തിലായി; ജനത്തില് ഔരോരുത്തന്റെ ഹൃദയം താന്താന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരെയും പുത്രിമാരെയും കുറിച്ചു വ്യസനിച്ചിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു അവനെ കല്ലെറിയേണമെന്നു ജനം പറഞ്ഞു; ദാവീദോ തന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയില് ധൈര്യപ്പെട്ടു.

6. And David was greatly distressed; for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David strengthened himself in Yahweh his God.

7. ദാവീദ് അഹീമേലെക്കിന്റെ മകനായ അബ്യാഥാര്പുരോഹിതനോടുഏഫോദ് ഇവിടെ കൊണ്ടുവരിക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അബ്യാഥാര് ഏഫോദ് ദാവീദിന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു.

7. And David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, I pray you, bring the ephod here to me. And Abiathar brought the ephod there to David.

8. എന്നാറെ ദാവീദ് യഹോവയോടുഞാന് ഇപ്പരിഷയെ പിന്തുടരേണമോ? അവരെ എത്തിപ്പിടിക്കുമോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. പിന്തുടരുക; നീ അവരെ നിശ്ചയമായി എത്തിപ്പിടിക്കും; സകലവും വീണ്ടുകൊള്ളും എന്നു അരുളപ്പാടുണ്ടായി.

8. And David inquired of Yahweh, saying, If I pursue after this troop, will I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue; for you will surely overtake [them], and without fail will recover [all].

9. അങ്ങനെ ദാവീദും കൂടെയുള്ള അറുനൂറുപേരും പുറപ്പെട്ടു ബെസോര്തോട്ടിങ്കല് എത്തി; ശേഷമുള്ളവര് അവിടെ താമസിച്ചു.

9. So David went, he and the six hundred men who were with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those who were left behind had stopped.

10. ബെസോര്തോടു കടപ്പാന് കഴിയാതവണ്ണം ക്ഷീണിച്ചിട്ടു ഇരുനൂറുപേര് പുറകില് താമസിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു ദാവീദും നാനൂറുപേരും പിന്തുടര്ന്നുചെന്നു.

10. But David pursued, he and four hundred men; for two hundred stopped, who were so faint that they could not go over the brook Besor.

11. അവര് വയലില്വെച്ചു ഒരു മിസ്രയീമ്യനെ കണ്ടു ദാവീദിന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു; അവന്നു അപ്പം കൊടുത്തു അവന് തിന്നു; അവന്നു കുടിപ്പാന് വെള്ളവും കൊടുത്തു.

11. And they found an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David, and gave him bread, and he ate; and they gave him water to drink.

12. അവര് അവന്നു ഒരു കഷണം അത്തിയടയും രണ്ടു ഉണക്കമുന്തിരിക്കുലയും കൊടുത്തു; അതു തിന്നപ്പോള് അവന്നു ഉയിര്വീണു; മൂന്നു രാവും മൂന്നു പകലും അവന് ആഹാരം കഴിക്കയോ വെള്ളം കുടിക്കയോ ചെയ്തിട്ടില്ലായിരുന്നു.

12. And they gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and two clusters of raisins: and when he had eaten, his spirit came again to him; for he had eaten no bread, nor drank any water, three days and three nights.

13. ദാവീദ് അവനോടുനീ ആരുടെ ആള്? എവിടുത്തുകാരന് എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു അവന് ഞാന് ഒരു മിസ്രയീമ്യബാല്യക്കാരന് ; ഒരു അമാലേക്യന്റെ ഭൃത്യന് . മൂന്നു ദിവസം മുമ്പെ എനിക്കു ദീനം പിടിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു എന്റെ യജമാനന് എന്നെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.

13. And David said to him, To whom do you belong? And where are you from? And he said, I am a young man of Egypt, slave to an Amalekite; and this is now the third day since my master left me because I was sick.

14. ഞങ്ങള് ക്രേത്യരുടെ തെക്കെനാടും യെഹൂദ്യദേശവും കാലേബിന്റെ തെക്കെദിക്കും ആക്രമിച്ചു; സിക്ളാഗ് ഞങ്ങള് തീവെച്ചു ചുട്ടുകളഞ്ഞു.

14. We made a raid on the South of the Cherethites, and on that which belongs to Judah, and on the South of Caleb; and we burned Ziklag with fire.

15. ദാവീദ് അവനോടുഅപ്പരിഷയുടെ അടുക്കലേക്കു നീ വഴികാണിച്ചുതരുമോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു അവന് നീ എന്നെ കൊല്ലുകയോ എന്റെ യജമാനന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കയോ ചെയ്കയില്ലെന്നു ദൈവനാമത്തില് എന്നോടു സത്യം ചെയ്താല് അപ്പരിഷയുടെ അടുക്കലേക്കു വഴികാണിച്ചുതരാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

15. And David said to him, Will you bring me down to this troop? And he said, Swear to me by God, that you will neither kill me, nor deliver me up into the hands of my master, and I will bring you down to this troop.

16. അങ്ങനെ അവന് അവനെ കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു ചെന്നപ്പോള് അവര് ഭൂതലത്തെങ്ങും പരന്നു തിന്നുകയും കുടിക്കയും ഫെലിസ്ത്യദേശത്തുനിന്നും യെഹൂദാദേശത്തുനിന്നും അപഹരിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുവന്ന വലിയ കൊള്ളനിമിത്തം ഉത്സവം ഘോഷിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നതു കണ്ടു.

16. And when he had brought him down, look, they were spread abroad over all the ground, eating and drinking, and dancing, because of all the great spoil that they had taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Judah.

17. ദാവീദ് അവരെ സന്ധ്യ മുതല് പിറ്റെന്നാള് വൈകുന്നേരംവരെ സംഹരിച്ചു; ഒട്ടകപ്പുറത്തു കയറി ഔടിച്ചു പോയ നാനൂറു ബാല്യക്കാര് അല്ലാതെ അവരില് ഒരുത്തനും ഒഴിഞ്ഞുപോയില്ല.

17. And David struck them from the twilight even to the evening of the next day: and not a man of them escaped, except four hundred young men, who rode on camels and fled.

18. അമാലേക്യര് അപഹരിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുപോയിരുന്നതൊക്കെയും ദാവീദ് വീണ്ടുകൊണ്ടു; തന്റെ രണ്ടു ഭാര്യമാരെയും ദാവീദ് ഉദ്ധരിച്ചു.

18. And David recovered all that the Amalekites had taken; and David rescued his two wives.

19. അവര് അപഹരിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുപോയതില് ചെറുതോ വലുതോ പുത്രന്മാരോ പുത്രിമാരോ കൊള്ളയോ യാതൊന്നും കിട്ടാതിരുന്നില്ല; ദാവീദ് എല്ലാം മടക്കി കൊണ്ടുപോന്നു.

19. And there was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither spoil, nor anything that they had taken to them: David brought back all.

20. ദാവീദ് ആടുമാടുകളെ ഒക്കെയും പിടിച്ചു. അവയെ അവര് തങ്ങളുടെ നാല്ക്കാലികള്ക്കു മുമ്പായി തെളിച്ചു നടത്തിക്കൊണ്ടുഇതു ദാവീദിന്റെ കൊള്ള എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

20. And David took all the flocks and the herds, [which] they drove before those [other] cattle, and said, This is David's spoil.

21. ദാവീദിനോടുകൂടെ പോകുവാന് കഴിയാതവണ്ണം ക്ഷീണിച്ചിട്ടു ബെസോര്തോട്ടിങ്കല് താമസിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്ന ഇരുനൂറുപേരുടെ അടുക്കല് ദാവീദ് എത്തിയപ്പോള് അവര് ദാവീദിനെയും കൂടെയുള്ള ജനത്തെയും എതിരേറ്റു ചെന്നു; ദാവീദ് ജനത്തിന്റെ സമീപത്തു വന്നു അവരോടു കുശലം ചോദിച്ചു.

21. And David came to the two hundred men, who were so faint that they could not follow David, whom also they had left at the brook Besor; and they went forth to meet David, and to meet the people who were with him: and when David came near to the people, he greeted them.

22. എന്നാല് ദാവീദിനോടു കൂടെ പോയിരുന്നവരില് ദുഷ്ടരും നീചരുമായ ഏവരുംഇവര് നമ്മോടുകൂടെ പോരാഞ്ഞതിനാല് നാം വിടുവിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുവന്ന കൊള്ളയില് ഔരോരുത്തന്റെ ഭാര്യയെയും മക്കളെയും ഒഴികെ അവര്ക്കും ഒന്നും കൊടുക്കരുതു, അവരെ അവര് കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു പൊയ്ക്കൊള്ളട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

22. Then all the wicked men and base fellows, of those who went with David, answered and said, Because they didn't go with us, we will not give them anything of the spoil that we have recovered, save to every man his wife and his sons, that he may lead them away, and depart.

23. അപ്പോള് ദാവീദ്എന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരേ; നമ്മെ രക്ഷിക്കയും നമ്മുടെ നേരെ വന്നിരുന്ന പരിഷയെ നമ്മുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കയും ചെയ്ത യഹോവ നമുക്കു തന്നിട്ടുള്ളതിനെക്കൊണ്ടു നിങ്ങള് ഇങ്ങനെ ചെയ്യരുതു.

23. Then said David, You+ will not do so, my brothers, with that which Yahweh has given to us, who has preserved us, and delivered the troop that came against us into our hand.

24. ഈ കാര്യത്തില് നിങ്ങളുടെ വാക്കു ആര് സമ്മതിക്കും? യുദ്ധത്തിന്നു പോകുന്നവന്റെ ഔഹരിയും സാമാനങ്ങള്ക്കരികെ താമസിക്കുന്നവന്റെ ഔഹരിയും ഒരുപോലെ ആയിരിക്കേണം; അവര് സമാംശമായി ഭാഗിച്ചെടുക്കേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

24. And who will listen to you+ in this matter? For as his share is that goes down to the battle, so will his share be that tarries by the baggage: they will share alike.

25. അന്നുമുതല് കാര്യം അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ നടപ്പായി; അവന് അതു യിസ്രായേലിന്നു ഇന്നുവരെയുള്ള ചട്ടവും നിയമവും ആക്കി.

25. And it was so from that day forward, that he made it a statute and an ordinance for Israel to this day.

26. ദാവീദ് സിക്ളാഗില് വന്നശേഷം യെഹൂദാമൂപ്പന്മാരായ തന്റെ സ്നേഹിതന്മാര്ക്കും കൊള്ളയില് ഒരംശം കൊടുത്തയച്ചുഇതാ, യഹോവയുടെ ശത്രുക്കളെ കൊള്ളയിട്ടതില്നിന്നു നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ഒരു സമ്മാനം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

26. And when David came to Ziklag, he sent of the spoil to the elders of Judah, to his fellow man, saying, Look, a present for you+ of the spoil of the enemies of Yahweh:

27. ബേഥേലില് ഉള്ളവര്ക്കും തെക്കെ രാമോത്തിലുള്ളവര്ക്കും യത്ഥീരില് ഉള്ളവര്ക്കും

27. To those who were in Bethuel, and to those who were in Ramoth of the South, and to those who were in Jattir,

28. അരോവേരില് ഉള്ളവര്ക്കും സിഫ്മോത്തിലുള്ളവര്ക്കും എസ്തെമോവയിലുള്ളവര്ക്കും

28. and to those who were in Arad, and to those who were in Siphmoth, and to those who were in Eshtemoa,

29. രാഖാലിലുള്ളവര്ക്കും യെരപ്മേല്യരുടെ പട്ടണങ്ങളിലുള്ളവര്ക്കും കേന്യരുടെ പട്ടണങ്ങളിലുള്ളവര്ക്കും

29. and to those who were in Racal, and to those who were in the cities of the Jerahmeelites, and to those who were in the cities of the Kenites,

30. ഹൊര്മ്മയിലുള്ളവര്ക്കും കോര്-ആശാനില് ഉള്ളവര്ക്കും അഥാക്കിലുള്ളവര്ക്കും ഹെബ്രോനിലുള്ളവര്ക്കും ദാവീദും അവന്റെ ആളുകളും സഞ്ചരിച്ചുവന്ന സകലസ്ഥലങ്ങളിലേക്കും കൊടുത്തയച്ചു.

30. and to those who were in Hormah, and to those who were in Bor-ashan, and to those who were in Athach,
