1. എന്നാല് ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് യിസ്രായേലിനോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു; യിസ്രായേല്യര് ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ മുമ്പില്നിന്നു ഔടി ഗില്ബോവപര്വ്വതത്തില് നിഹതന്മാരായി വീണു.

1. Now the Philistines were fighting against Israel, and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines and fell slain on Mount Gilboa.

2. ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് ശൌലിനെയും അവന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരെയും പിന്തേര്ന്നുചെന്നു; ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് ശൌലിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരായ യോനാഥാന് അബീനാദാബ് മെല്ക്കീശൂവ എന്നിവരെ കൊന്നു.

2. The Philistines overtook Saul and his sons; and the Philistines killed Jonathan and Abinadab and Malchi-shua the sons of Saul.

3. എന്നാല് പട ശൌലിന്റെ നേരെ ഏറ്റവും, മുറുകി; വില്ലാളികള് അവനില് ദൃഷ്ടിവെച്ചു, വില്ലാളികളാല് അവന് ഏറ്റവും വിഷമത്തിലായി.

3. The battle went heavily against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was badly wounded by the archers.

4. ശൌല് തന്റെ ആയുധവാഹകനോടുഈ അഗ്രചര്മ്മികള് വന്നു എന്നെ കുത്തിക്കളകയും അപമാനിക്കയും ചെയ്യാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നിന്റെ വാള് ഊരി എന്നെ കുത്തുക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ആയുധവാഹകന് ഏറ്റവും ഭയപ്പെട്ടതുകൊണ്ടു അവന്നു മനസ്സുവന്നില്ല; അതുകൊണ്ടു ശൌല് ഒരു വാള് പിടിച്ചു അതിന്മേല് വീണു.

4. Then Saul said to his armor bearer, 'Draw your sword and pierce me through with it, otherwise these uncircumcised will come and pierce me through and make sport of me.' But his armor bearer would not, for he was greatly afraid. So Saul took his sword and fell on it.

5. ശൌല് മരിച്ചു എന്നു അവന്റെ ആയുധവാഹകന് കണ്ടപ്പോള് താനും അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ തന്റെ വാളിന്മേല് വീണു അവനോടുകൂടെ മരിച്ചു.

5. When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his sword and died with him.

6. ഇങ്ങനെ ശൌലും അവന്റെ മൂന്നു പുത്രന്മാരും അവന്റെ ആയുധവാഹകനും അവന്റെ ആളുകള് ഒക്കെയും അന്നു ഒന്നിച്ചു മരിച്ചു. യിസ്രായേല്യര് ഔടിപ്പോയി.

6. Thus Saul died with his three sons, his armor bearer, and all his men on that day together.

7. ശൌലും പുത്രന്മാരും മരിച്ചു എന്നു താഴ്വരയുടെ അപ്പുറത്തും യോര്ദ്ദാന്നക്കരെയും ഉള്ള യിസ്രായേല്യര് കണ്ടപ്പോള് അവര് പട്ടണങ്ങളെ വെടിഞ്ഞു ഔടിപ്പോകയും ഫെലിസ്ത്യര്വന്നു അവിടെ പാര്ക്കയും ചെയ്തു.

7. When the men of Israel who were on the other side of the valley, with those who were beyond the Jordan, saw that the men of Israel had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned the cities and fled; then the Philistines came and lived in them.

8. പിറ്റെന്നാള് ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് നിഹതന്മാരുടെ വസ്ത്രം ഉരിവാന് വന്നപ്പോള് ശൌലും പുത്രന്മാരും ഗില്ബോവപര്വ്വതത്തില് വീണു കിടക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു.

8. It came about on the next day when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.

9. അവര് അവന്റെ തലവെട്ടി, അവന്റെ ആയുധവര്ഗ്ഗവും അഴിച്ചെടുത്തു തങ്ങളുടെ വിഗ്രഹക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലും ജനത്തിന്റെ ഇടയിലും വര്ത്തമാനം അറിയിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഫെലിസ്ത്യദേശത്തെല്ലാടവും ആളയച്ചു.

9. They cut off his head and stripped off his weapons, and sent [them] throughout the land of the Philistines, to carry the good news to the house of their idols and to the people.

10. അവന്റെ ആയുധവര്ഗ്ഗം അവര് അസ്തോരെത്തിന്റെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തില്വെച്ചു; അവന്റെ ഉടല് അവര് ബേത്ത്-ശാന്റെ ചുവരിന്മേല് തൂക്കി.

10. They put his weapons in the temple of Ashtaroth, and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth-shan.

11. എന്നാല് ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് ശൌലിനോടു ചെയ്തതു ഗിലെയാദിലെ യാബേശ് നിവാസികള് കേട്ടപ്പോള്

11. Now when the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul,

12. ശൂരന്മാരായ എല്ലാവരും പുറപ്പെട്ടു രാത്രിമുഴുവനും നടന്നുചെന്നു ബേത്ത്-ശാന്റെ ചുവരില്നിന്നു ശൌലിന്റെ ശവവും അവന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരുടെ ശവങ്ങളും എടുത്തു യാബേശില് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു അവിടെവെച്ചു ദഹിപ്പിച്ചു.

12. all the valiant men rose and walked all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan, and they came to Jabesh and burned them there.

13. അവരുടെ അസ്ഥികളെ അവര് എടുത്തു യാബേശിലെ പിചുലവൃക്ഷത്തിന്റെ ചുവട്ടില് കുഴിച്ചിട്ടു; ഏഴു ദിവസം ഉപവസിച്ചു.

13. They took their bones and buried them under the tamarisk tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
