1. ബെന്യാമീന് ഗോത്രത്തില് കീശ് എന്നു പേരുള്ള ഒരു ധനികന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന് ബെന്യാമീന്യനായ അഫീഹിന്റെ മകനായ ബെഖോറത്തിന്റെ മകനായ സെറോറിന്റെ മകനായ അബീയേലിന്റെ മകന് ആയിരുന്നു.

1. There was nowe a man of Beniamin, mightie in power named Kish, the sonne of Abiel, the sonne of Zeror, the sonne of Bechorath, the sonne of Aphiah, the sonne of a man of Iemini.

2. അവന്നു ശൌല് എന്ന പേരോടെ യൌവനവും കോമളത്വവുമുള്ള ഒരു മകന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; യിസ്രായേല്മക്കളില് അവനെക്കാള് കോമളനായ പുരുഷന് ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു; അവന് എല്ലാവരെക്കാളും തോള്മുതല് പൊക്കമേറിയവന് ആയിരുന്നു.

2. And he had a sonne called Saul, a goodly yong man and a faire: so that among the children of Israel there was none goodlier then he: from the shoulders vpwarde he was hier then any of the people.

3. ശൌലിന്റെ അപ്പനായ കീശിന്റെ കഴുതകള് കാണാതെപോയിരുന്നു. കീശ് തന്റെ മകനായ ശൌലിനോടുനീ ഒരു ഭൃത്യനെയും കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു ചെന്നു കഴുതകളെ അന്വേഷിക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

3. And the asses of Kish Sauls father were lost: therefore Kish said to Saul his sonne, Take nowe one of the seruants with thee, and arise, goe, and seeke the asses.

4. അവന് എഫ്രയീംമലനാട്ടിലും ശാലീശാദേശത്തുംകൂടി സഞ്ചരിച്ചു; അവയെ കണ്ടില്ല; അവര് ശാലീംദേശത്തുകൂടി സഞ്ചരിച്ചു; അവിടെയും ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു; അവന് ബെന്യാമീന് ദേശത്തുകൂടിയും സഞ്ചരിച്ചു; എങ്കിലും കണ്ടു കിട്ടിയില്ല.

4. So he passed through mount Ephraim, and went through the lande of Shalishah, but they found them not. Then they went through the land of Shalim, and there they were not: he went also through ye land of Iemini, but they found the not.

5. സൂഫ് ദേശത്തു എത്തിയപ്പോള് ശൌല് കൂടെയുള്ള ഭൃത്യനോടുവരിക, നമുക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോകാം; അല്ലെങ്കില് അപ്പന് കഴുതകളെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള ചിന്ത വിട്ടു നമ്മെക്കുറിച്ചു വിഷാദിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

5. When they came to the lande of Zuph, Saul saide vnto his seruant that was with him, Come and let vs returne, lest my father leaue the care of asses, and take thought for vs.

6. അതിന്നു അവന് ഈ പട്ടണത്തില് ഒരു ദൈവപുരുഷന് ഉണ്ടു; അവന് മാന്യന് ആകുന്നു; അവന് പറയുന്നതെല്ലാം ഒത്തുവരുന്നു; നമുക്കു അവിടെ പോകാം; നാം പോകുവാനുള്ള വഴി അവന് പക്ഷേ പറഞ്ഞുതരും എന്നു അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

6. And he said vnto him, Behold nowe, in this citie is a man of God, and he is an honorable man: all that he saith commeth to passe: let vs nowe goe thither, if so be that he can shewe vs what way we may goe.

7. ശൌല് തന്റെ ഭൃത്യനോടുനാം പോകുന്നു എങ്കില് ആ പുരുഷന്നു എന്താകുന്നു കൊണ്ടുപോകേണ്ടതു? നമ്മുടെ ഭാണ്ഡത്തിലെ അപ്പം തീര്ന്നുപോയല്ലോ; ദൈവപുരുഷന്നു കൊണ്ടുചെല്ലുവാന് ഒരു സമ്മാനവും ഇല്ലല്ലോ; നമുക്കു എന്തുള്ളു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

7. Then saide Saul to his seruant, Well then, let vs goe: but what shall we bring vnto the man? For the bread is spent in our vessels, and there is no present to bring to the man of God: what haue we?

8. ഭൃത്യന് ശൌലിനോടുഎന്റെ കയ്യില് കാല്ശേക്കെല് വെള്ളിയുണ്ടു; ഇതു ഞാന് ദൈവപുരുഷന്നു കൊടുക്കാം; അവന് നമുക്കു വഴി പറഞ്ഞുതരും എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.--

8. And the seruant answered Saul againe, and said, Beholde, I haue founde about me the fourth part of a shekell of siluer: that will I giue the man of God, to tell vs our way.

9. പണ്ടു യിസ്രായേലില് ഒരുത്തന് ദൈവത്തോടു ചോദിപ്പാന് പോകുമ്പോള്വരുവിന് ; നാം ദര്ശകന്റെ അടുക്കല് പോക എന്നു പറയും; ഇപ്പോള് പ്രവാചകന് എന്നു പറയുന്നവനെ അന്നു ദര്ശകന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുവന്നു.--

9. (Beforetime in Israel when a man went to seeke an answere of God, thus he spake, Come, and let vs goe to the Seer: for he that is called nowe a Prophet, was in the olde time called a Seer)

10. ശൌല് ഭൃത്യനോടുനല്ലതു; വരിക, നമുക്കു പോകാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവര് ദൈവപുരുഷന് താമസിച്ചുവന്ന പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു പോയി.

10. Then saide Saul to his seruant, Well saide, come, let vs goe: so they went into the citie where the man of God was.

11. അവര് പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കുള്ള കയറ്റം കയറിച്ചെല്ലുമ്പോള് വെള്ളംകോരുവാന് പോകുന്ന ബാല്യക്കാരത്തികളെ കണ്ടു അവരോടുദര്ശകന് ഇവിടെ ഉണ്ടോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

11. And as they were going vp the hie way to the citie, they found maydes that came out to draw water, and said vnto them, Is there here a Seer?

12. അവര് അവരോടുഉണ്ടു; അതാ, നിങ്ങളുടെ മുമ്പില്; വേഗം ചെല്ലുവിന് ; ഇന്നു പൂജാഗിരിയില് ജനത്തിന്റെ വക ഒരു യാഗം ഉള്ളതുകൊണ്ടു അവന് ഇന്നു പട്ടണത്തില് വന്നിട്ടുണ്ടു.

12. And they answered them, and said, Yea: loe, he is before you: make haste nowe, for he came this day to the citie: for there is an offering of the people this day in the hie place.

13. നിങ്ങള് പട്ടണത്തില് കടന്ന ഉടനെ അവന് പൂജാഗിരിയില് ഭക്ഷണത്തിന്നു പോകുമ്മുമ്പെ നിങ്ങള് അവനെ കാണേണം; അവന് യാഗത്തെ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കേണ്ടതാകകൊണ്ടു അവന് ചെല്ലുവോളം ജനം ഭക്ഷിക്കയില്ല; അതിന്റെ ശേഷം മാത്രമേ ക്ഷണിക്കപ്പെട്ടവര് ഭക്ഷിക്കയുള്ളു; വേഗം ചെല്ലുവിന് ; ഇപ്പോള് അവനെ കാണാം എന്നുത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

13. When ye shall come into the citie, ye shall finde him straightway yet he come vp to the hie place to eate: for the people will not eate vntill he come, because he will blesse the sacrifice: and then eate they that be bidden to the feast: nowe therefore goe vp: for euen now shall ye find him.

14. അങ്ങനെ അവര് പട്ടണത്തില് ചെന്നു; പട്ടണത്തില് കടന്നപ്പോള് ഇതാ, ശമൂവേല് പൂജാഗിരിക്കു പോകുവാനായി അവരുടെ നേരെ വരുന്നു.

14. Then they went vp into the citie, and when they were come into the middes of the citie, Samuel came out against them, to goe vp to the hie place.

15. എന്നാല് ശൌല് വരുന്നതിന്നു ഒരു ദിവസം മുമ്പെ യഹോവ അതു ശമൂവേലിന്നു വെളിപ്പെടുത്തി

15. But the Lord had reueiled to Samuel secretly (a day before Saul came) saying,

16. നാളെ ഇന്നേരത്തു ബെന്യാമീന് ദേശക്കാരനായ ഒരാളെ ഞാന് നിന്റെ അടുക്കല് അയക്കും; എന്റെ ജനമായ യിസ്രായേലിനെ ഭരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ അവനെ അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്യേണം; അവന് എന്റെ ജനത്തെ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കയ്യില് നിന്നു രക്ഷിക്കും. എന്റെ ജനത്തിന്റെ നിലവിളി എന്റെ അടുക്കല് എത്തിയിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു ഞാന് അവരെ കടാക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.

16. To morow about this time I will send thee a man out of the land of Beniamin: him shalt thou anoint to be gouernour ouer my people Israel, that he may saue my people out of the hands of the Philistims: for I haue looked vpon my people, and their crie is come vnto me.

17. ശമൂവേല് ശൌലിനെ കണ്ടപ്പോള് യഹോവ അവനോടുഞാന് നിന്നോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്ത ആള് ഇതാ; ഇവനാകുന്നു എന്റെ ജനത്തെ ഭരിപ്പാനുള്ളവന് എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

17. When Samuel therefore sawe Saul, the Lord answered him, See, this is the man whom I spake to thee of, he shall rule my people.

18. അന്നേരം ശൌല് പടിവാതില്ക്കല് ശമൂവേലിന്റെ അടുക്കല് എത്തിദര്ശകന്റെ വീടു എവിടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുതരേണമേ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

18. Then went Saul to Samuel in the middes of the gate, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, where the Seers house is.

19. ശമൂവേല് ശൌലിനോടുദര്ശകന് ഞാന് തന്നേ; എന്റെ കൂടെ പൂജാഗിരിക്കു പോരുവിന് ; നിങ്ങള് ഇന്നു എന്നോടുകൂടെ ഭക്ഷണം കഴിക്കേണം; നാളെ ഞാന് നിന്നെ യാത്രയയക്കാം; നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തില് ഉള്ളതൊക്കെയും പറഞ്ഞുതരാം.

19. And Samuel answered Saul, and saide, I am the Seer: goe vp before me vnto the hie place: for ye shall eate with me to day. and to morowe I will let thee goe, and will tell thee all that is in thine heart.

20. മൂന്നു ദിവസം മുമ്പെ കാണാതെപോയ കഴുതകളെക്കുറിച്ചു ചിന്തിക്കേണ്ടാ; അവയെ കണ്ടുകിട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു. എന്നാല് യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ആഗ്രഹമൊക്കെയും ആരുടെമേല്? നിന്റെമേലും നിന്റെ സര്വ്വപിതൃഭവനത്തിന്മേലും അല്ലയോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

20. And as for thine asses that were lost three dayes ago, care not for them: for they are founde. and on whom is set all the desire of Israel? is it not vpon thee and on all thy fathers house?

21. അതിന്നു ശൌല്ഞാന് യിസ്രായേല്ഗോത്രങ്ങളില് ഏറ്റവും ചെറുതായ ബെന്യാമീന് ഗോത്രത്തിലുള്ളവനും എന്റെ കുടുംബം ബെന്യാമീന് ഗോത്രത്തിലെ സകല കുടുംബങ്ങളിലുംവെച്ചു ഏറ്റവും ചെറിയതുമായിരിക്കെ നീ ഇങ്ങനെ എന്നോടു പറയുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

21. But Saul answered, and said, Am not I the sonne of Iemini of the smallest tribe of Israel? and my familie is the least of all the families of the tribe of Beniamin. Wherefore then speakest thou so to me?

22. പിന്നെ ശമൂവേല് ശൌലിനെയും അവന്റെ ഭൃത്യനെയും കൂട്ടി വിരുന്നുശാലയില് കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു ക്ഷണിക്കപ്പെട്ടവരുടെ ഇടയില് അവര്ക്കും പ്രധാനസ്ഥലം കൊടുത്തു; ക്ഷണിക്കപ്പെട്ടവര് ഏകദേശം മുപ്പതുപേര് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

22. And Samuel tooke Saul and his seruant, and brought them into the chamber, and made them sit in the chiefest place among them that were bidden: which were about thirtie persons.

23. ശമൂവേല് വെപ്പുകാരനോടുനിന്റെ പക്കല് വെച്ചുകൊള്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു ഞാന് തന്നിട്ടുള്ള ഔഹരി കൊണ്ടുവരിക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

23. And Samuel saide vnto the cooke, Bring foorth the portion which I gaue thee, and whereof I said vnto thee, Keepe it with thee.

24. വെപ്പുകാരന് കൈക്കുറകും അതിന്മേല് ഉള്ളതും കൊണ്ടുവന്നു ശൌലിന്റെ മുമ്പില്വെച്ചു. നിനക്കായി സൂക്ഷിച്ചു വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതു ഇതാ; തിന്നുകൊള്ക; ഞാന് ഉത്സവത്തിന്നു ആളുകളെ ക്ഷണിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടു ഇതു ഉത്സവത്തിന്നു വേണ്ടി നിനക്കായി സൂക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ശമൂവേല് പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ ശൌല് അന്നു ശമൂവേലിനോടു കൂടെ ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചു.

24. And the cooke tooke vp the shoulder, and that which was vpon it, and set it before Saul. And Samuel said, Beholde, that which is left, set it before thee and eate: for hitherto hath it bene kept for thee, saying, Also I haue called the people. So Saul did eate with Samuel that day.

25. അവര് പൂജാഗിരിയില്നിന്നു പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു ഇറങ്ങിവന്നശേഷം അവന് വീട്ടിന്റെ മുകളില് വെച്ചു ശൌലുമായി സംസാരിച്ചു.

25. And when they were come downe from the hie place into the citie, he communed with Saul vpon the top of the house.

26. അവര് അതികാലത്തു അരുണോദയത്തിങ്കല് എഴുന്നേറ്റു; ശമൂവേല് മുകളില്നിന്നു ശൌലിനെ വിളിച്ചുഎഴുന്നേല്ക്ക, ഞാന് നിന്നെ യാത്ര അയക്കാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ശൌല് എഴുന്നേറ്റു, അവര് രണ്ടുപേരും, അവനും ശമൂവേലും തന്നേ, വെളിയിലേക്കു പുറപ്പെട്ടു.

26. And when they arose early about ye spring of the day, Samuel called Saul to the top of the house, saying, Vp, that I may send thee away. And Saul arose, and they went out, both he, and Samuel.

27. പട്ടണത്തിന്റെ അറ്റത്തു എത്തിയപ്പോള് ശമൂവേല് ശൌലിനോടുഭൃത്യന് മുമ്പെ കടന്നു പോകുവാന് പറക; - അവന് കടന്നുപോയി;-- ഞാന് നിന്നോടു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ അരുളപ്പാടു അറിയിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ അല്പം നില്ക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

27. And when they were come downe to the ende of the citie, Samuel said to Saul, Bid the seruant goe before vs, (and he went) but stand thou still nowe, that I may shewe thee the worde of God.
