1. സാറെക്കു നൂറ്റിരുപത്തേഴു വയസ്സു ആയിരുന്നുഇതു സാറയുടെ ആയുഷ്കാലം.

1. And the life of Sarah is a hundred and twenty and seven years -- years of the life of Sarah;

2. സാറാ കനാന് ദേശത്തു ഹെബ്രോന് എന്ന കിര്യ്യത്തര്ബ്ബയില്വെച്ചു മരിച്ചു; അബ്രാഹാം സാറയെക്കുറിച്ചു വിലപിച്ചു കരവാന് വന്നു.

2. and Sarah dieth in Kirjath-Arba, which [is] Hebron, in the land of Caanan, and Abraham goeth in to mourn for Sarah, and to bewail her.

3. പിന്നെ അബ്രാഹാം മരിച്ചവളുടെ അടുക്കല് നിന്നു എഴുന്നേറ്റു ഹിത്യരോടു സംസാരിച്ചു

3. And Abraham riseth up from the presence of his dead, and speaketh unto the sons of Heth, saying,

4. ഞാന് നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില് പരദേശിയും വന്നു പാര്ക്കുംന്നവനും ആകുന്നു; ഞാന് എന്റെ മരിച്ചവളെ കൊണ്ടുപോയി അടക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു എനിക്കു നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില് ഒരു ശ്മശാനഭൂമി അവകാശമായി തരുവിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

4. 'A sojourner and a settler I [am] with you; give to me a possession of a burying-place with you, and I bury my dead from before me.'

5. ഹിത്യര് അബ്രാഹാമിനോടുയജമാനനേ, കേട്ടാലും

5. And the sons of Heth answer Abraham, saying to him,

6. നീ ഞങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ഒരു പ്രഭുവാകുന്നു; ഞങ്ങളുടെ ശ്മശാനസ്ഥലങ്ങളില്വെച്ചു വിശേഷമായതില് മരിച്ചവളെ അടക്കിക്കൊള്ക; മരിച്ചവളെ അടക്കുവാന് ഞങ്ങളില് ആരും ശ്മശാനസ്ഥലം നിനക്കു തരാതിരിക്കയില്ല എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

6. 'Hear us, my lord; a prince of God [art] thou in our midst; in the choice of our burying-places bury thy dead: none of us his burying-place doth withhold from thee, from burying thy dead.'

7. അപ്പോള് അബ്രാഹാം എഴുന്നേറ്റു ആ ദേശക്കാരായ ഹിത്യരെ നമസ്കരിച്ചു അവരോടു സംസാരിച്ചു

7. And Abraham riseth and boweth himself to the people of the land, to the sons of Heth,

8. എന്റെ മരിച്ചവളെ കൊണ്ടുപോയി അടക്കുവാന് സമ്മതമുണ്ടെങ്കില് നിങ്ങള് എന്റെ അപേക്ഷ കേട്ടു എനിക്കുവേണ്ടി സോഹരിന്റെ മകനായ എഫ്രോനോടു,

8. and he speaketh with them, saying, 'If it is your desire to bury my dead from before me, hear me, and meet for me with Ephron, son of Zoar;

9. അവന് തന്റെ നിലത്തിന്റെ അറുതിയില് തനിക്കുള്ള മക്പേലാ എന്ന ഗുഹ എനിക്കു തരേണ്ടതിന്നു അപേക്ഷിപ്പിന് ; നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില് ശ്മശാനാവകാശമായിട്ടു അവന് അതിനെ പിടിപ്പതു വിലെക്കു തരേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. and he giveth to me the cave of Machpelah, which he hath, which [is] in the extremity of his field; for full money doth he give it to me, in your midst, for a possession of a burying-place.'

10. എന്നാല് എഫ്രോന് ഹിത്യരുടെ നടുവില് ഇരിക്കയായിരുന്നു; ഹിത്യനായ എഫ്രോന് തന്റെ നഗരവാസികളായ ഹിത്യര് എല്ലാവരും കേള്ക്കെ അബ്രാഹാമിനോടു

10. And Ephron is sitting in the midst of the sons of Heth, and Ephron the Hittite answereth Abraham in the ears of the sons of Heth, of all those entering the gate of his city, saying,

11. അങ്ങനെയല്ല, യജമാനനേ, കേള്ക്കേണമേ; നിലം ഞാന് നിനക്കു തരുന്നു; അതിലെ ഗുഹയും നിനക്കു തരുന്നു; എന്റെ സ്വജനം കാണ്കെ തരുന്നു; മരിച്ചവളെ അടക്കം ചെയ്തുകൊണ്ടാലും എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

11. 'Nay, my lord, hear me: the field I have given to thee, and the cave that [is] in it, to thee I have given it; before the eyes of the sons of my people I have given it to thee -- bury thy dead.'

12. അപ്പോള് അബ്രാഹാം ദേശത്തിലെ ജനത്തെ നമസ്കരിച്ചു.

12. And Abraham boweth himself before the people of the land,

13. ദേശത്തിലെ ജനം കേള്ക്കെ അവന് എഫ്രോനോടുദയ ചെയ്തു കേള്ക്കേണം; നിലത്തിന്റെ വില ഞാന് നിനക്കു തരുന്നതു എന്നോടു വാങ്ങേണം; എന്നാല് ഞാന് മരിച്ചവളെ അവിടെ അടക്കം ചെയ്യും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

13. and speaketh unto Ephron in the ears of the people of the land, saying, 'Only -- if thou wouldest hear me -- I have given the money of the field -- accept from me, and I bury my dead there.'

14. എഫ്രോന് അബ്രാഹാമിനോടുയജമാനനേ, കേട്ടാലും

14. And Ephron answereth Abraham, saying to him,

15. നാനൂറു ശേക്കെല് വെള്ളി വിലയുള്ള ഒരു ഭൂമി, അതു എനിക്കും നിനക്കും എന്തുള്ളു? മരിച്ചവളെ അടക്കം ചെയ്തുകൊള്ക എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

15. 'My lord, hear me: the land -- four hundred shekels of silver; between me and thee, what [is] it? -- thy dead bury.'

16. അബ്രാഹാം എഫ്രോന്റെ വാക്കു സമ്മതിച്ചു ഹിത്യര് കേള്ക്കെ എഫ്രോന് പറഞ്ഞതുപോലെ കച്ചവടക്കാര്ക്കും നടപ്പുള്ള വെള്ളിശേക്കെല് നാനൂറു അവന്നു തൂക്കിക്കൊടുത്തു.

16. And Abraham hearkeneth unto Ephron, and Abraham weigheth to Ephron the silver which he hath spoken of in the ears of the sons of Heth, four hundred silver shekels, passing with the merchant.

17. ഇങ്ങനെ മമ്രേക്കരികെ എഫ്രോന്നുള്ള മക്പേലാനിലവും അതിലെ ഗുഹയും നിലത്തിന്റെ അതിര്ക്കകത്തുള്ള സകലവൃക്ഷങ്ങളും

17. And established are the field of Ephron, which [is] in Machpelah, which [is] before Mamre, the field and the cave which [is] in it, and all the trees which [are] in the field, which [are] in all its border round about,

18. അവന്റെ നഗരവാസികളായ ഹിത്യരുടെ മുമ്പാകെ അബ്രാഹാമിന്നു അവകാശമായി ഉറെച്ചുകിട്ടി.

18. to Abraham by purchase, before the eyes of the sons of Heth, among all entering the gate of his city.

19. അതിന്റെ ശേഷം അബ്രാഹാം തന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ സാറയെ കനാന് ദേശത്തിലെ ഹെബ്രോന് എന്ന മമ്രേക്കരികെയുള്ള മക്പേലാനിലത്തിലെ ഗുഹയില് അടക്കം ചെയ്തു.

19. And after this hath Abraham buried Sarah his wife at the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre (which [is] Hebron), in the land of Canaan;

20. ഇങ്ങനെ ഹിത്യര് ആ നിലവും അതിലെ ഗുഹയും അബ്രാഹാമിന്നു ശ്മശാനാവകാശമായി ഉറപ്പിച്ചുകൊടുത്തു.

20. and established are the field, and the cave which [is] in it, to Abraham for a possession of a burying-place, from the sons of Heth.
