1. എന്നാല് ബെന്യാമീന്യനായി ബിക്രിയുടെ മകനായ ശേബ എന്നു പേരുള്ള ഒരു നീചന് അവിടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന് കാഹളം ഊതിദാവീദിങ്കല് നമുക്കു ഔഹരി ഇല്ല; യിശ്ശായിയുടെ മകങ്കല് അവകാശവും ഇല്ല; യിസ്രായേലേ നിങ്ങള് വീട്ടിലേക്കു പൊയ്ക്കൊള്വിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

1. And there happened to be an unthrifty fellow named Seba the son of Bochri a man of Gemini which blew a trumpet and said: we have no part in David, nor inheritance in the son of Isai, o Israel,

2. അപ്പോള് യിസ്രായേല് ഒക്കെയും ദാവീദിനെ വിട്ടു പിന്മാറി ബിക്രിയുടെ മകനായ ശേബയുടെ പക്ഷം ചേര്ന്നു; യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാരോ യോര്ദ്ദാന് തുടങ്ങി യെരൂശലേംവരെ തങ്ങളുടെ രാജാവിനോടു ചേര്ന്നു നടന്നു.

2. let us depart therefore every man to his tent. And all Israel went from David and followed Seba the son of Bochri. But the men of Juda clave fast unto the king, from Jordan to Jerusalem.

3. ദാവീദ് യെരൂശലേമില് അരമനയില് എത്തി; അരമന സൂക്ഷിപ്പാന് പാര്പ്പിച്ചിരുന്ന പത്തു വെപ്പാട്ടികളെയും രാജാവു അന്ത:പുരത്തില് ആക്കി രക്ഷിച്ചു എങ്കിലും അവരുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നില്ല. അങ്ങനെ അവര് ജീവപര്യന്തം കാവലിലിരുന്നു വൈധവ്യം ആചരിച്ചു.

3. And when David was come to his house to Jerusalem, he took the ten wives his concubines that he had left behind him to keep the house, and put them in ward and ministered all things unto them: but lay no more with them. And so they were enclosed unto the day of the death of them, and lived a widow's life.

4. അനന്തരം രാജാവു അമാസയോടുനീ മൂന്നു ദിവസത്തിന്നകം യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മരെ വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി അവരുമായി ഇവിടെ വരിക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

4. Then said the king to Amasa: call me the men of Juda together within three days and present thyself here.

5. അങ്ങനെ അമാസാ യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മരെ വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടുവാന് പോയി; എന്നാല് കല്പിച്ച അവധിയിലധികം അവന് താമസിച്ചുപോയി.

5. And Amasa went to gather the men of Juda together: but tarried longer than the time which was appointed him.

6. എന്നാറെ ദാവീദ് അബീശായിയോടുഅബ്ശാലോം ചെയ്തതിനെക്കാളും ബിക്രിയുടെ മകനായ ശേബ ഇപ്പോള് നമുക്കു അധികം ദോഷം ചെയ്യും; അവന് ഉറപ്പുള്ള വല്ല പട്ടണത്തിലും കടന്നു നമ്മുടെ ദൃഷ്ടിയില്നിന്നു തെറ്റിപ്പോകാതാരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ നിന്റെ യജമാനന്റെ ചേവകരെ കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു അവനെ പിന്തുടരുക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

6. Wherefore the king said to Abisai: now shall Seba the son of Bochri be worse to us than Absalom. Take thou therefore thy lord's servants and follow after him: lest he get him walled cities and escape us.

7. അങ്ങനെ യോവാബിന്റെ ആളുകളും ക്രോത്യരും പ്ളേത്യരും സകലവീരന്മാരും ബിക്രിയുടെ മകനായ ശേബയെ പിന്തുടരുവാന് യെരൂശലേമില് നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു.

7. And there went out after him Joab's men and the Cerethites and the Phelethites and the men of might. And they departed out of Jerusalem to follow after Seba the son of Bochri.

8. അവര് ഗിബെയോനിലെ വലിയ പാറയുടെ അടുക്കല് എത്തിയപ്പോള് അമാസാ അവര്ക്കെതിരെ വന്നു. എന്നാല് യോവാബ് ധരിച്ചിരുന്ന പടയങ്കിമേല് ഒരു കച്ചയില് ഉറയോടുകൂടെ ഒരു വാള് അരെക്കു കെട്ടിയിരിന്നു; അവന് നടക്കുമ്പോള് അതു വീണുപോയി.

8. And when they were come to the great stone in Gabaon, Amasa met them. And Joab had his garment that he had about him, gird unto him, and had girded thereon a knife joined fast to his loins, in such a sheath that as he went it fell sometimes out.

9. യോവാബ് അമാസയോടുസഹോദരാ, സുഖം തന്നേയോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അമാസയെ ചുംബനം ചെയ്വാന് വലത്തുകൈകൊണ്ടു അവന്റെ താടിക്കു പിടിച്ചു.

9. And Joab said to Amasa: are all things in rest and peace my brother? And Joab took Amasa by the chin with the right hand, as though he would have kissed him.

10. എന്നാല് യോവാബിന്റെ കയ്യില് വാള് ഇരിക്കുന്നതു അമാസാ സൂക്ഷിച്ചില്ല; യോവാബ് അവനെ അതു കൊണ്ടു വയറ്റത്തു കുത്തി കുടല് ചോര്ത്തിക്കളഞ്ഞു; രണ്ടാമതു കുത്തേണ്ടിവന്നില്ല; അവന് മരിച്ചുപോയി. യോവാബും അവന്റെ സഹോദരനായ അബീശായിയും ബിക്രിയുടെ മകനായ ശേബയെ പിന്തുടര്ന്നു.

10. And Amasa took no heed to the knife that was in Joab's hand, with which Joab smote him in the short ribs, and shed out his bowels to the ground and smote him but one stroke, and he died. And then Joab and Amisai his brother followed after Seba the son of Bochri.

11. യോവാബിന്റെ ബാല്യക്കാരില് ഒരുത്തന് അതിന്നരികെ നിന്നുകൊണ്ടു യോവാബിനോടു ഇഷ്ടമുള്ളവനും ദാവീദിന്റെ പക്ഷക്കാരനും യോവാബിന്റെ പിന്നാലെ ചെല്ലട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

11. And one of Joab's men that stood by him said: what is he that he would be as Joab, and what is he that would be unto David instead of Joab?

12. അമാസാ വഴിനടുവില് രക്തത്തില് മുഴുകി കിടന്നതുകൊണ്ടു ജനമൊക്കെയും നിലക്കുന്നു എന്നു കണ്ടിട്ടു അവന് അമാസയെ വഴിയില്നിന്നു വയലിലേക്കു മാറ്റി; അവിടെ എത്തുന്നവനെല്ലാം നിലക്കുന്നു എന്നു കാണ്കകൊണ്ടു അവന് ഒരു വസ്ത്രം അവന്റെമേല് ഇട്ടു.

12. And Amasa lay wallowing in blood in the midst of the way. And there was a man that saw all the people stand still. And when he saw that all that came by him stood still, he rolled Amasa out of the way into the field and cast a cloth upon him.

13. അവനെ പെരുവഴിയില്നിന്നു മാറ്റിയശേഷം എല്ലാവരും ബിക്രിയുടെ മകനായ ശേബയെ പിന്തുടരുവാന് യോവാബിന്റെ പിന്നാലെ പോയി.

13. And as soon as he was tumbled out of the way, all the people went after Joab to follow after Seba the son of Bochri.

14. എന്നാല് ശേബ എല്ലായിസ്രായേല്ഗോത്രങ്ങളിലും കൂടി കടന്നു ആബേലിലും ബേത്ത്-മാഖയിലും എല്ലാബേര്യ്യരുടെ അടുക്കലും ചെന്നു; അവരും ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂടി അവന്റെ പിന്നാലെ ചെന്നു.

14. And he went thorow all the tribes of Israel unto Abel, Bethmaacah and all Barim. And the people gathered unto him and went also after him.

15. മറ്റവര് വന്നു ബേത്ത്-മാഖയോടു ചേര്ന്ന ആബേലില് അവനെ നിരോധിച്ചു പട്ടണത്തിന്നു നേരെ വാടകോരി; അതു കിടങ്ങിന്റെ വക്കത്തായിരുന്നു; യോവാബിനോടുകൂടെയുള്ള എല്ലാ പടജ്ജനവും മതില് തള്ളിയിടുവാന് തക്കവണ്ണം ഇടിച്ചുതുടങ്ങി.

15. And they came and besieged him in Abel Bethmaacah. And they cast up a bank against the city. And it was besieged. All the people that was with Joab laboured busily to overthrow the wall.

17. അവന് അടുത്തുചെന്നപ്പോള്നീ യോവാബോ എന്നു ആ സ്ത്രീ ചോദിച്ചു. അതേ എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു. അവള് അവനോടുഅടിയന്റെ വാക്കു കേള്ക്കേണമേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ഞാന് കേള്ക്കാം എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

17. When Joab was come the woman said: art thou Joab? And Joab answered that am I. And she said to him: hear the words of thy handmaid? And he said: I am ready to hear.

18. എന്നാറെ അവള് ആബേലില് ചെന്നുചോദിക്കേണം എന്നു പണ്ടൊക്കെ പറകയും അങ്ങനെ കാര്യം തീര്ക്കുംകയും ചെയ്ക പതിവായിരുന്നു.

18. And she said: it hath been a common saying in the old time, men must ask of Abel, and then go and finish the work.

19. ഞാന് യിസ്രായേലില് സമാധാനവും വിശ്വസ്തതയും ഉള്ളവരില് ഒരുത്തി ആകുന്നു; നീ യിസ്രായേലില് ഒരു പട്ടണത്തെയും ഒരു മാതാവിനെയും നശിപ്പിപ്പാന് നോക്കുന്നു; നീ യഹോവയുടെ അവകാശം മുടിച്ചുകളയുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

19. Abel is one of the quietest and faithfullest cities that are in Israel. And thou goest about to destroy a city that is as a mother in Israel. Why devourest thou the inheritance of the LORD?

20. അതിന്നു യോവാബ്മുടിച്ചുകളകയോ നശിപ്പിക്കയോ ചെയ്വാന് എനിക്കു ഒരിക്കലും സംഗതിയാകരുതേ.

20. And Joab answered and said: God forbid, God forbid it me, that I should either devour or destroy it.

21. കാര്യം അങ്ങനെയല്ല; ബിക്രിയുടെ മകനായ ശേബ എന്നൊരു എഫ്രയീംമലനാട്ടുകാരന് ദാവീദ്രാജാവിനോടു മത്സരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; അവനെ ഏല്പിച്ചുതന്നാല് മാത്രം മതി; ഞാന് പട്ടണത്തെ വിട്ടുപോകും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. സ്ത്രീ യോവാബിനോടുഅവന്റെ തല മതിലിന്റെ മുകളില്നിന്നു നിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ഇട്ടുതരും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

21. The matter is not so: But there is a man of mount Ephraim, Seba the son of Bochri by name, which hath lifted up his hand against king David. Deliver us him onely, and I will depart from the city. And the woman said unto Joab: Behold, his head shall be thrown thorow the wall to thee.

22. അങ്ങനെ സ്ത്രീ ചെന്നു തന്റെ ജ്ഞാനത്താല് സകലജനത്തെയും സമ്മതിപ്പിച്ചു; അവര് ബിക്രിയുടെ മകനായ ശേബയുടെ തല വെട്ടി യോവാബിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ഇട്ടുകൊടുത്തു; അപ്പോള് അവന് കാഹളം ഊതി, എല്ലാവരും പട്ടണം വിട്ടു വീടുകളിലേക്കു പോയി. യോവാബ് യെരൂശലേമില് രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.

22. And then the woman went unto all the people in her wisdom. And they smote off the head of Seba son of Bochri, and cast it to Joab. And he blew a trumpet, and they scattered from the city every man to his tent, and Joab returned to Jerusalem unto the king.

23. യോവാബ് യിസ്രായേല്സൈന്യത്തിന്നൊക്കെയും അധിപതി ആയിരുന്നു; യെഹോയാദായുടെ മകനായ ബെനായാവു ക്രേത്യരുടെയും പ്ളേത്യരുടെയും നായകന് ആയിരുന്നു.

23. And Joab was over all the host of Israel. And Banaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cerethites and the Phelethites.

24. അദോരാം ഊഴിയവേലക്കാര്ക്കും മേല് വിചാരകന് ; അഹിലൂദിന്റെ മകനായ യെഹോശാഫാത്ത് മന്ത്രി;

24. And Aduram was over the tribute. And Jehosaphat the son of Ahilud was Recorder.

25. ശെവാ രായസക്കാരന് ; സാദോക്കും അബ്യാഥാരും പുരോഹിതന്മാര്.

25. Sema was scribe. And Sadock and Abiathar were priests.

26. യായീര്യ്യനായ ഈരയും ദാവീദിന്റെ പുരോഹിതന് ആയിരുന്നു.

26. And Ira the Jairite was likewise David's priest.
