1. ശൌലിന്റെ ഗൃഹവും ദാവീദിന്റെ ഗൃഹവും തമ്മില് ദീര്ഘകാലം യുദ്ധം നടന്നു; എന്നാല് ദാവീദിന്നു ബലം കൂടിക്കൂടിയും ശൌലിന്റെ ഗൃഹം ക്ഷയിച്ചു ക്ഷയിച്ചും വന്നു.

1. And there was war for a long time between the house of Saul and the house of David; and the house of David grew continually stronger; but the house of Saul grew continually weaker.

2. ദാവീദിന്നു ഹെബ്രോനില്വെച്ചു പുത്രന്മാര് ജനിച്ചു; യിസ്രെയേല്ക്കാരത്തിയായ അഹീനോവം പ്രസവിച്ച അമ്നോന് അവന്റെ ആദ്യജാതന് .

2. And sons were born to David in Hebron: and his firstborn was Ammon the son of Ahinoam the Jezreelitess.

3. കര്മ്മേല്യന് നാബാലിന്റെ ഭാര്യയായിരുന്ന അബീഗയില് പ്രസവിച്ച കിലെയാബ് രണ്ടാമത്തവന് ; ഗെശൂര്രാജാവായ തല്മയിയുടെ മകള് മയഖയുടെ മകനായ അബ്ശാലോം മൂന്നാമത്തവന് ;

3. And his second son [was] Daluia, the son of Abigail the Carmelitess; and the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai the king of Geshur.

4. ഹഗ്ഗീത്തിന്റെ മകനായ അദോനീയാവു നാലാമത്തവന് ; അബീതാലിന്റെ മകനായ ശെഫത്യാവു അഞ്ചാമത്തവന് ;

4. And the fourth [was] Adonijah, the son of Haggith, and the fifth [was] Shephatiah, the son of Abital.

5. ദാവീദിന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ എഗ്ളാ പ്രസവിച്ച യിത്രെയാം ആറാമത്തവന് . ഇവരാകുന്നു ഹെബ്രോനില്വെച്ചു ദാവീദിന്നു ജനിച്ചവര്.

5. And the sixth [was] Ithream, the son of David's wife Eglah. These were born to David in Hebron.

6. ശൌലിന്റെ ഗൃഹവും ദാവീദിന്റെ ഗൃഹവും തമ്മില് യുദ്ധം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന കാലത്തു അബ്നേര് ശൌലിന്റെ ഗൃഹത്തില് തന്നെത്താന് ബലപ്പെടുത്തിയിരുന്നു.

6. And it came to pass while there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, that Abner was governing the house of Saul.

7. എന്നാല് ശൌലിന്നു അയ്യാവിന്റെ മകളായി രിസ്പാ എന്നു പേരുള്ള ഒരു വെപ്പാട്ടി ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; ഈശ്-ബോശെത്ത് അബ്നേരിനോടുനീ എന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ വെപ്പാട്ടിയുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

7. And Saul had a concubine [named] Rizpah, the daughter of Jol; and Ishbosheth the son of Saul said to Abner, Why have you gone in to my father's concubine?

8. അബ്നേര് ഈശ്-ബോശെത്തിന്റെ വാക്കുനിമിത്തം ഏറ്റവും കോപിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞതുഞാന് യെഹൂദാ പക്ഷത്തിലുള്ള ഒരു നായ്ത്തലയോ? ഇന്നു ഞാന് നിന്റെ അപ്പനായ ശൌലിന്റെ ഗൃഹത്തോടും അവന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരോടും സ്നേഹിതന്മാരോടും ദയ കാണിക്കയും നിന്നെ ദാവീദിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കാതിരിക്കയും ചെയ്തിരിക്കെ ഇന്നു ഈ സ്ത്രീ നിമിത്തം നീ എന്നെ കുറ്റം ചുമത്തുന്നുവോ?

8. And Abner was very angry with Ishbosheth for this saying; and Abner said to him, Am I a dog's head? I have this day showed kindness with the house of Saul your father, and with his brethren and friends, and have not gone over to the house of David, and do you this day seek a charge against me concerning injury to a woman?

9. ശൌലിന്റെ ഗൃഹത്തില്നിന്നു രാജത്വം മാറ്റുകയും ദാവീദിന്റെ സിംഹാസനം ദാന് മുതല് ബേര്-ശേബവരെ യിസ്രായേലിലും യെഹൂദയിലും സ്ഥാപിക്കയും ചെയ്വാന് തക്കവണ്ണം

9. God do thus and more also to Abner, if as the Lord swore to David, so do I not to him this day;

10. യഹോവ ദാവീദിനോടു സത്യം ചെയ്തതുപോലെ ഞാന് അവന്നു സാധിപ്പിച്ചുകൊടുക്കാതിരുന്നാല് ദൈവം അബ്നേരിനോടു തക്കവണ്ണവും അധികവും ചെയ്യട്ടെ.

10. to take away the kingdom from the house of Saul, and to raise up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah from Dan to Beersheba.

11. അവന് അബ്നേരിനെ ഭയപ്പെടുകകൊണ്ടു അവനോടു പിന്നെ ഒരു വാക്കും പറവാന് കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല.

11. And Ishbosheth could not any longer answer Abner a word, because he feared him.

12. അനന്തരം അബ്നേര് ഹെബ്രോനില് ദാവീദിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചുദേശം ആര്ക്കുംള്ളതു? എന്നോടു ഉടമ്പടി ചെയ്ക; എന്നാല് എല്ലായിസ്രായേലിനെയും നിന്റെ പക്ഷത്തില് വരുത്തേണ്ടതിന്നു എന്റെ സഹായം നിനക്കു ഉണ്ടാകും എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.

12. And Abner sent messengers to David to Thaelam where he was, immediately, saying, Make your covenant with me, and behold, my hand [is] with you to bring back to you all the house of Israel.

13. അതിന്നു അവന് നല്ലതു; ഉടമ്പടി ചെയ്യാം; എന്നാല് ഞാന് ഒരു കാര്യം നിന്നോടു ആവശ്യപ്പെടുന്നുനീ എന്നെ കാണ്മാന് വരുമ്പോള് ആദ്യം തന്നേ ശൌലിന്റെ മകളായ മീഖളിനെ കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു വരാതിരുന്നാല് നീ എന്റെ മുഖം കാണ്കയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

13. And David said, With a good will I will make a covenant with you; only I demand one condition of you: you shall not see my face, unless you bring Michal the daughter of Saul, when you come to see my face.

14. ദാവീദ് ശൌലിന്റെ മകനായ ഈശ്-ബോശെത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചുഞാന് വിവാഹനിശ്ചയത്തിന്നു ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ നൂറു അഗ്രചര്മ്മംകൊടുത്തു വാങ്ങിയ എന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ മീഖളിനെ ഏല്പിച്ചുതരിക എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.

14. And David sent messengers to Ishbosheth the son of Saul, saying, Restore me my wife Michal, whom I took for a hundred foreskins of the Philistines.

15. ഈശ്-ബോശെത്ത് അവളെ ലയീശിന്റെ മകനായി അവളുടെ ഭര്ത്താവായ ഫല്തിയേലിന്റെ അടുക്കല്നിന്നു വരുത്തി.

15. And Ishbosheth sent, and took her from her husband, from Paltiel the son of Laish.

16. അവളുടെ ഭര്ത്താവു കരഞ്ഞുംകൊണ്ടു ബഹൂരീംവരെ അവളുടെ പിന്നാലെ വന്നു. അബ്നേര് അവനോടുനീ മടങ്ങിപ്പോക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

16. And her husband went with her weeping behind her as far as Bahurim. And Abner said to him, Go, return; and he returned.

17. അവന് മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി, എന്നാല് അബ്നേര് യിസ്രായേല്മൂപ്പന്മാരോടു സംസാരിച്ചുദാവീദിനെ രാജാവായി കിട്ടുവാന് കുറെ കാലമായല്ലോ നിങ്ങള് അന്വേഷിക്കുന്നതു.

17. And Abner spoke to the elders of Israel, saying, In former days you sought David to reign over you;

18. ഇപ്പോള് അങ്ങനെ ചെയ്വിന് ; ഞാന് എന്റെ ദാസനായ ദാവീദിന്റെ കൈകൊണ്ടു എന്റെ ജനമായ യിസ്രായേലിനെ ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് മുതലായ സകലശത്രുക്കളുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നും രക്ഷിക്കുമെന്നു യഹോവ ദാവീദിനെക്കുറിച്ചു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലൊ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

18. and now perform [it]; for the Lord has spoken concerning David, saying, By the hand of My servant David I will save Israel out of the hand of all their enemies.

19. അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ അബ്നേര് ബെന്യാമീന്യരോടും പറഞ്ഞു; പിന്നെ അബ്നേര് യിസ്രായേലിന്നും ബെന്യാമീന് ഗൃഹത്തിന്നൊക്കെയും സമ്മതമായതെല്ലാം ദാവീദിനോടു അറിയിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഹെബ്രോനില് പോയി.

19. And Abner spoke in the ears of Benjamin. And Abner went to speak in the ears of David at Hebron, all that seemed good in the eyes of Israel and in the eyes of the house of Benjamin.

20. ഇങ്ങനെ അബ്നേരും അവനോടുകൂടെ ഇരുപതു പുരുഷന്മാരും ഹെബ്രോനില് ദാവീദിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു. ദാവീദ് അബ്നേരിന്നും കൂടെയുള്ളവര്ക്കും വേണ്ടി ഒരു വിരുന്നു കഴിച്ചു.

20. And Abner came to David at Hebron, and twenty men with him. And David made a banquet of wine for Abner and his men with him.

21. അബ്നേര് ദാവീദിനോടുഞാന് ചെന്നു യിസ്രായേലൊക്കെയും യജമാനനായ രാജാവിനോടു ഉടമ്പടി ചെയ്യേണ്ടതിന്നു അവരെ നിന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൂട്ടിവരുത്തും; അപ്പോള് നീ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ എല്ലാവര്ക്കും രാജാവായിരിക്കാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. പിന്നെ ദാവീദ് അബ്നേരിനെ യാത്ര അയച്ചു; അവന് സമാധാനത്തോടെ പോയി.

21. Then Abner said to David, I will arise now and go, and gather to my lord the king all of Israel; and I will make a covenant with him, and you shall reign over all whom your soul desires. And David sent Abner away, and he departed in peace.

22. അപ്പേള് ദാവീദിന്റെ ചേവകരും യോവാബും ഒരു കവര്ച്ചപ്പട കഴിഞ്ഞു വളരെ കൊള്ളയുമായി മടങ്ങിവന്നു; എന്നാല് ദാവീദ് അബ്നേരിനെ യാത്രയയക്കയും അവന് സമാധാനത്തോടെ പോകയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നതിനാല് അവന് അന്നേരം ദാവീദിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു.

22. And behold, the servants of David and Joab arrived from their expedition, and they brought much spoil with them. And Abner was not with David in Hebron, because he had sent him away, and he had departed in peace.

23. യോവാബും കൂടെയുള്ള സൈന്യമൊക്കെയും വന്നപ്പോള്നേരിന്റെ മകനായ അബ്നേര് രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു, അവന് അവനെ യാത്രയയച്ചു, അവന് സമാധാനത്തോടെ പോയി എന്നിങ്ങനെ യോവാബിന്നു അറിവുകിട്ടി.

23. Now Joab and all his army came, and it was reported to Joab, saying, Abner the son of Ner has come to David, and David has let him go, and he has departed in peace.

24. യോവാബ് രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നുഎന്താകുന്നു ഈ ചെയ്തതു? അബ്നേര് നിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നിരുന്നല്ലോ; അവനെ പറഞ്ഞയച്ചതെന്തു?

24. And Joab went in to the king, and said, What [is] this you have done? Behold, Abner came to you; and why have you let him go, and he has departed in peace?

25. അവന് പോയല്ലോ! നേരിന്റെ മകനായ അബ്നേരിനെ നീ അറികയില്ലേ? നിന്നെ ചതിപ്പാനും നിന്റെ പോക്കും വരവും ഗ്രഹിപ്പാനും നീ ചെയ്യുന്നതൊക്കെയും അറിവാനുമല്ലോ അവന് വന്നതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

25. Surely you know the mischief of Abner the son of Ner, that he came to deceive you, and to know your going out and your coming in, and to know all things that you are doing?

26. യോവാബ് ദാവീദിന്റെ അടുക്കല്നിന്നു പുറത്തിറങ്ങി അബ്നേരിന്റെ പിന്നാലെ ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചു; അവര് അവനെ സീരാകിണറ്റിങ്കല്നിന്നു മടക്കിക്കൊണ്ടുവന്നു; ദാവീദ് അതു അറിഞ്ഞില്ലതാനും.

26. And Joab returned from David, and sent messengers to Abner after [him]; and they brought him back from the Well of Sirah, but David knew [it] not.

27. അബ്നേര് ഹെബ്രോനിലേക്കു മടങ്ങി വന്നപ്പോള് യോവാബ് സ്വകാര്യം പറവാന് അവനെ പടിവാതില്ക്കല് ഒരു ഭാഗത്തേക്കു കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോയി തന്റെ സഹോദരനായ അസാഹേലിന്റെ രക്തപ്രതികാരത്തിന്നായി അവിടെവെച്ചു അവനെ വയറ്റത്തു കുത്തികൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു.

27. And he brought back Abner to Hebron, and Joab caused him to turn aside from the gate to speak to him, laying wait for him; and he stabbed him there in the loins, and he died for the blood of Asahel the brother of Joab.

28. ദാവീദ് അതു കേട്ടപ്പോള് നേരിന്റെ മകനായ അബ്നേരിന്റെ രക്തം സംബന്ധിച്ചു എനിക്കും എന്റെ രാജത്വത്തിന്നും യഹോവയുടെ മുമ്പാകെ ഒരിക്കലും കുറ്റം ഇല്ല.

28. And David heard [of it] afterwards, and said, I and my kingdom are guiltless before the Lord, even forever, of the blood of Abner the son of Ner.

29. അതു യോവാബിന്റെ തലമേലും അവന്റെ പിതൃഭവനത്തിന്മേലൊക്കെയും ഇരിക്കട്ടെ; യോവാബിന്റെ ഗൃഹത്തില് സ്രവക്കാരനോ കുഷ്ഠരോഗിയോ വടികുത്തി നടക്കുന്നവനോ വാളിനാല് വീഴുന്നവനോ ആഹാരത്തിന്നു മുട്ടുള്ളവനോ വിട്ടൊഴിയാതിരിക്കട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

29. Let it fall upon the head of Joab, and upon all the house of his father; and let there not be wanting of the house of Joab one that has an issue, or a leper, or that leans on a staff, or that falls by the sword, or that wants bread.

30. അബ്നേര് ഗിബെയോനിലെ യുദ്ധത്തില് തങ്ങളുടെ അനുജനായ അസാഹേലിനെ കൊന്നതു നിമിത്തം യോവാബും അവന്റെ സഹോദരനായ അബീശായിയും ഇങ്ങനെ അവനെ കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു.

30. For Joab and Abishai his brother laid wait continually for Abner, because he slew Asahel their brother at Gibeon in the battle.

31. ദാവീദ് യോവാബിനോടും അവനോടു കൂടെയുള്ള സകലജനത്തോടുംനിങ്ങളുടെ വസ്ത്രം കീറി ചാകൂശീല ഉടുത്തു അബ്നേരിന്റെ മുമ്പില് നടന്നു വിലപിപ്പിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ദാവീദ് രാജാവു ശവമഞ്ചത്തിന്റെ പിന്നാലെ നടന്നു.

31. And David said to Joab and to all the people with him, tear your clothes, and put on sackcloth, and lament over Abner. And King David followed the coffin.

32. അവര് അബ്നേരിനെ ഹെബ്രോനില് അടക്കം ചെയ്തപ്പോള് രാജാവു അബ്നേരിന്റെ ശവകൂഴിക്കല് ഉറക്കെ കരഞ്ഞു; സകലജനവും കരഞ്ഞു.

32. And they buried Abner in Hebron. And the king lifted up his voice, and wept at his tomb, and all the people wept for Abner.

33. രാജാവു അബ്നേരിനെക്കുറിച്ചു വിലാപഗീതം ചൊല്ലിയതെന്തെന്നാല്അബ്നേര് ഒരു നീചനെപ്പോലെയോ മരിക്കേണ്ടതു?

33. And the king mourned over Abner, and said, Shall Abner die according to the death of Nabal?

34. നിന്റെ കൈ ബന്ധിച്ചിരുന്നില്ല; നിന്റെ കാലിന്നു ചങ്ങല ഇട്ടിരുന്നില്ല; നീതികെട്ടവരുടെ മുമ്പില് പട്ടുപോകുമ്പോലെ നീ പട്ടുപോയല്ലോ. സകലജനവും അവനെക്കുറിച്ചു കരഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

34. Your hands were not bound, and your feet [were] not [put] in fetters; [one] brought [you] not near as Nabal; you have fallen before children of iniquity.

35. നേരം വൈകുംമുമ്പേ ജനമെല്ലാം ദാവീദിനെ ഭക്ഷണം കഴിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു വന്നപ്പോള്സൂര്യന് അസ്തമിക്കും മുമ്പെ ഞാന് അപ്പം എങ്കിലും മറ്റു യാതൊന്നെങ്കിലും ആസ്വദിച്ചാല് ദൈവം എന്നോടു തക്കവണ്ണവും അധികവും ചെയ്യട്ടെ എന്നു ദാവീദ് സത്യം ചെയ്തു പറഞ്ഞു.

35. And all the people assembled to weep for him. And all the people came to cause David to eat bread while it was yet day. And David swore, saying, God do so to me, and more also, if I eat bread or anything else before the sun goes down.

36. ഇതു ജനമെല്ലാം അറിഞ്ഞപ്പോള്രാജാവു ചെയ്തതൊക്കെയും സര്വ്വജനത്തിന്നും ബോധിച്ചിരുന്നതുപോലെ ഇതും അവര്ക്കും ബോധിച്ചു.

36. And all the people took notice, and all things that the king did before the people were pleasing in their sight.

37. നേരിന്റെ പുത്രനായ അബ്നേരിനെ കൊന്നതു രാജാവിന്റെ അറിവോടെയല്ല എന്നു സകലജനത്തിന്നും യിസ്രായേലിന്നൊക്കെയും അന്നു ബോധ്യമായി.

37. So all the people and all Israel perceived in that day, that it was not of the king to slay Abner the son of Ner.

38. രാജാവു തന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരോടുഇന്നു യിസ്രായേലില് ഒരു പ്രഭുവും മഹാനുമായവന് പട്ടുപോയി എന്നു നിങ്ങള് അറിയുന്നില്ലയോ?

38. And the king said to his servants, Do you not know that a great prince has fallen this day in Israel?

39. ഞാന് രാജാഭിഷേകം പ്രാപിച്ചവന് എങ്കിലും ഇന്നു ബലഹിനനാകുന്നു; സെരൂയയുടെ പുത്രന്മാരായ ഈ പുരുഷന്മാര് എനിക്കു ഒതുങ്ങാത്ത കഠനിന്മാരത്രേ; ദുഷ്ടത പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ചവന്നു അവന്റെ ദുഷ്ടതെക്കു തക്കവണ്ണം യഹോവ പകരം കൊടുക്കട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

39. And that I am this day a [mere] kinsman [of his], and [as it were] a subject; but these men the sons of Zeruiah are too harsh for me: the Lord reward the evildoer according to his wickedness.
