1. അനന്തരം യിസ്രായേല്ഗോത്രങ്ങളൊക്കെയും ഹെബ്രോനില് ദാവീദിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നുഞങ്ങള് നിന്റെ അസ്ഥിയും മാംസവും ആകുന്നുവല്ലോ.

1. Then came all the tribes of Israel to David to Hebron and said: see, we are thy bones and thy flesh.

2. മുമ്പു ശൌല് ഞങ്ങളുടെ രാജാവായിരുന്നപ്പോഴും നായകനായി യിസ്രായേലിനെ നടത്തിയതു നീ ആയിരുന്നു. നീ എന്റെ ജനമായ യിസ്രായേലിനെ മേയ്ക്കയും യിസ്രായേലിന്നു പ്രഭുവായിരിക്കയും ചെയ്യുമെന്നു യഹോവ നിന്നോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തിട്ടുമുണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

2. And thereto in time past when Saul was king over us, thou leddest Israel in and out. And the LORD hath said to thee: thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be a captain over Israel.

3. ഇങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല്മൂപ്പന്മാരൊക്കെയും ഹെബ്രോനില് രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു; ദാവീദ് രാജാവു ഹെബ്രോനില്വെച്ചു യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് അവരോടു ഉടമ്പടി ചെയ്തു; അവര് ദാവീദിനെ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു രാജാവായിട്ടു അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്തു.

3. And so all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron. And king David made a covenant with them in Hebron before the LORD. And they anointed David king over Israel.

4. ദാവീദ് വാഴ്ച തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോള് അവന്നു മുപ്പതു വയസ്സായിരുന്നു; അവന് നാല്പതു സംവത്സരം വാണു.

4. David was thirty year old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty year.

5. അവന് ഹെബ്രോനില് യെഹൂദെക്കു ഏഴു സംവത്സരവും ആറു മാസവും യെരൂശലേമില് എല്ലായിസ്രായേലിന്നു യെഹൂദെക്കും മുപ്പത്തിമൂന്നു സംവത്സരവും രാജാവായി വാണു.

5. In Hebron he reigned over Juda seven years and six months. And in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three year over all Israel and Juda.

6. രാജാവും അവന്റെ ആളുകളും യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു ആ ദേശത്തെ നിവാസികളായ യെബൂസ്യരുടെ നേരെ പുറപ്പെട്ടു. ദാവീദിന്നു അവിടെ കടപ്പാന് കഴികയില്ലെന്നുവെച്ചു അവര് ദാവീദിനോടുനീ ഇവിടെ കടക്കയില്ല; നിന്നെ തടുപ്പാന് കുരുടരും മുടന്തരും മതി എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

6. Then went the king and his men to Jerusalem, unto the Jebusites the inhabiters of the land. And they said unto David: except thou take away the blind and the lame thou shalt not come in hither, meaning thereby that David should not have come in thither.

7. എന്നിട്ടും ദാവീദ് സീയോന് കോട്ട പിടിച്ചു; അതു തന്നെ ദാവീദിന്റെ നഗരം.

7. Nevertheless David took the hold of Sion, which is in the city of David.

8. അന്നു ദാവീദ്ആരെങ്കിലും യെബൂസ്യരെ തോല്പിച്ചാല് അവന് നീര്പ്പാത്തിയില്കൂടി കയറി ദാവീദിന്നു വെറുപ്പായുള്ള മുടന്തരെയും കുരുടരെയും പിടിക്കട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അതു കൊണ്ടു കുരുടരും മുടന്തരും വീട്ടില് വരരുതു എന്നൊരു ചൊല്ലു നടപ്പായി.

8. Then said David the same day: whosoever winneth the walls and the lame and the blind hated of David's soul. Wherefore the blind and the lame shall not come into the house.

9. ദാവീദ് കോട്ടയില് വസിച്ചു, അതിന്നു ദാവീദിന്റെ നഗരമെന്നു പേരിട്ടു. ദാവീദ് അതിനെ മില്ലോ തുടങ്ങി ചുറ്റിലും ഉള്ളിലോട്ടും പണിതുറപ്പിച്ചു.

9. And David dwelt in the tower and called it the city of David. And David built round about it from Mello inward.

10. സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ തന്നോടുകൂടെയുണ്ടായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു ദാവീദ് മേലക്കുമേല് പ്രബലനായിത്തീര്ന്നു.

10. And David waxed great and the LORD God of hosts was with him.

11. സോര്രാജാവായ ഹീരാം ദാവീദിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ദൂതന്മാരെയും ദേവദാരുക്കളെയും ആശാരികളെയും കല്പണിക്കാരെയും അയച്ചു; അവര് ദാവീദിന്നു ഒരു അരമന പണിതു.

11. And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David with Cedar trees and carpenters and Masons, to build David an house.

12. ഇങ്ങനെ യഹോവ യിസ്രായേലില് തന്നെ രാജാവായി സ്ഥിരപ്പെടുത്തുകയും അവന്റെ ജനമായ യിസ്രായേല് നിമിത്തം തന്റെ രാജത്വം ഉന്നതമാക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു എന്നു ദാവീദ് അറിഞ്ഞു.

12. Whereby David perecived that the LORD had stablished him king over Israel and had exalted his kingdom for his people Israel's sake.

13. ഹെബ്രോനില്നിന്നു വന്നശേഷം ദാവീദ് യെരൂശലേമില്വെച്ചു അധികം വെപ്പാട്ടികളെയും ഭാര്യമാരെയും പരിഗ്രഹിച്ചു; ദാവീദിന്നു പിന്നെയും പുത്രന്മാരും പുത്രിമാരും ജനിച്ചു.

13. And David took him more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after he was come from Hebron, and more sons and daughters were yet born to David.

14. യെരൂശലേമില്വെച്ചു അവന്നു ജനിച്ചവരുടെ പേരുകളാവിതുശമ്മൂവ, ശോബാബ്, നാഥാന് , ശലോമോന് ,

14. And these be the names of the sons that were born him in Jerusalem: Samua, Sobab, Nathan, Salamon,

15. യിബ്ഹാര്, എലിശൂവ, നേഫെഗ്, യാഫീയ,

15. Jebahar, Elisua, Nepheg, Japhia, Elisama,

16. എലീശാമാ, എല്യാദാവു, എലീഫേലെത്ത്,

16. Eliada, and Eliphalet.

17. എന്നാല് ദാവീദിനെ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു രാജാവായി അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്തു എന്നു ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് കേട്ടപ്പോള് ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് ഒക്കെയും ദാവീദിനെ പിടിപ്പാന് വന്നു; ദാവീദ് അതു കേട്ടിട്ടു ദുര്ഗ്ഗത്തില് കടന്നു പാര്ത്തു.

17. But when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, they came all up to seek David. And as soon as David heard of it, he gat him to an hold.

18. ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് വന്നു രെഫായീം താഴ്വരയില് പരന്നു.

18. And the Philistines came and laid them along in the valley of Raphaim.

19. അപ്പോള് ദാവീദ് യഹോവയോടുഞാന് ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ നേരെ പുറപ്പെടേണമോ? അവരെ എന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചുതരുമോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. പുറപ്പെടുക; ഞാന് ഫെലിസ്ത്യരെ നിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കും എന്നു യഹോവ ദാവീദിനോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

19. And David asked of the LORD saying: shall I go to the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into my hands? And the LORD said unto David: go for I will deliver the Philistines into thy hands.

20. അങ്ങനെ ദാവീദ് ബാല്-പെരാസീമില് ചെന്നു; അവിടെവെച്ചു ദാവീദ് അവരെ തോല്പിച്ചു; വെള്ളച്ചാട്ടംപോലെ യഹോവ എന്റെ മുമ്പില് എന്റെ ശത്രുക്കളെ തകര്ത്തുകളഞ്ഞു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അതുകൊണ്ടു ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു ബാല്-പെരാസീം എന്നു പേര് പറഞ്ഞുവരുന്നു.

20. And David came to Baal Pharazim and smote them there and said: the LORD hath divided mine enemies asunder before me, as a man would divide water. And therefore he called the name of the said place, Baal Pharazim.

21. അവിടെ അവര് തങ്ങളുടെ വിഗ്രഹങ്ങളെ ഇട്ടേച്ചുപോയി; ദാവീദും അവന്റെ ആളുകളും അവയെ എടുത്തു കൊണ്ടുപോന്നു.

21. And there they left their Images and David and his men took them up.

22. ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് പിന്നെയും വന്നു രെഫായീംതാഴ്വരിയില് പരന്നു.

22. And the Philistines came yet again and laid them in the valley Raphaim.

23. ദാവീദ് യഹോവയോടു ചോദിച്ചപ്പോള്നീ നേരെ ചെല്ലാതെ അവരുടെ പിമ്പുറത്തുകൂടി വളഞ്ഞുചെന്നു ബാഖാവൃക്ഷങ്ങള്ക്കു എതിരെവെച്ചു അവരെ നേരിടുക.

23. And David asked the LORD, and he said go not. But compass them on the back side and come down upon them from the Peretrees.

24. ബാഖാവൃക്ഷങ്ങളുടെ അഗ്രങ്ങളില്കൂടി അണിനടക്കുന്ന ഒച്ചപോലെ കേള്ക്കും; അപ്പോള് വേഗത്തില് ചെല്ലുക; ഫെലിസ്ത്യസൈന്യത്തെ തോല്പിപ്പാന് യഹോവ നിനക്കു മുമ്പായി പുറപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അരുളപ്പാടുണ്ടായി .

24. And when thou hearest the noise of a thing going in the tops of the Peretrees, then move. For then the LORD is gone out before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines.

25. യഹോവ കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ ദാവീദ് ചെയ്തു, ഫെലിസ്ത്യരെ ഗേബമുതല് ഗേസെര്വരെ തോല്പിച്ചു.

25. And David did as the LORD commanded him and smote the Philistines from Gabaah to Gezer.
