1. ഏലീയാവു ചെയ്തതൊക്കെയും അവന് സകല പ്രവാചകന്മാരെയും വാള്കൊണ്ടു കൊന്ന വിവരമൊക്കെയും ആഹാബ് ഈസേബെലിനോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

1. And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and also how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.

2. ഈസേബെല് ഏലീയാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ഒരു ദൂതനെ അയച്ചുനാളെ ഈ നേരത്തു ഞാന് നിന്റെ ജീവനെ അവരില് ഒരുത്തന്റെ ജീവനെപ്പോലെ ആക്കുന്നില്ല എങ്കില് ദേവന്മാര് എന്നോടു തക്കവണ്ണവും അധികവും ചെയ്യുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.

2. Then Jezebel send a messenger to Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I do not make thy life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.

3. അവന് ഭയപ്പെട്ടു എഴുന്നേറ്റു ജീവരക്ഷെക്കായി പുറപ്പെട്ടു യെഹൂദെക്കുള്പ്പെട്ട ബേര്-ശേബയില് ചെന്നു അവിടെ തന്റെ ബാല്യക്കാരനെ താമസിപ്പിച്ചു.

3. And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life. And he came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.

4. താനോ മരുഭൂമിയില് ഒരു ദിവസത്തെ വഴി ചെന്നു ഒരു ചൂരച്ചെടിയുടെ തണലില് ഇരുന്നു മരിപ്പാന് ഇച്ഛിച്ചു; ഇപ്പോള് മതി, യഹോവേ, എന്റെ പ്രാണനെ എടുത്തുകൊള്ളേണമേ; ഞാന് എന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാരെക്കാള് നല്ലവനല്ലല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

4. But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree. And he requested for himself that he might die, and said, It is enough, now, O LORD, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.

5. അങ്ങനെ അവന് ചൂരച്ചെടിയുടെ തണലില് കിടന്നുറങ്ങുമ്പോള് പെട്ടെന്നു ഒരു ദൂതന് അവനെ തട്ടി അവനോടുഎഴുന്നേറ്റു തിന്നുക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

5. And he lay down and slept under a juniper tree, and, behold, a heavenly agent touched him, and said to him, Arise and eat.

6. അവന് ഉണര്ന്നു നോക്കിയപ്പോള് കനലിന്മേല്ചുട്ട ഒരു അടയും ഒരു തുരുത്തി വെള്ളവും തലെക്കല് ഇരിക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു; അവന് തിന്നുകുടിച്ചു പിന്നെയും കിടന്നുറങ്ങി.

6. And he looked, and, behold, there was at his head a cake baked on the coals, and a cruse of water. And he ate and drank, and laid him down again.

7. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് രണ്ടാം പ്രാവശ്യം വന്നു അവനെ തട്ടിഎഴുന്നേറ്റു തിന്നുക; നിനക്കു ദൂരയാത്ര ചെയ്വാനുണ്ടല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

7. And the agent of LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat because the journey is too great for thee.

8. അവന് എഴുന്നേറ്റു തിന്നുകുടിച്ചു; ആ ആഹാരത്തിന്റെ ബലംകൊണ്ടു നാല്പതു പകലും നാല്പതു രാവും ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പര്വ്വതമായ ഹോരേബോളം നടന്നു.

8. And he arose, and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb the mount of God.

9. അവിടെ അവന് ഒരു ഗുഹയില് കടന്നു രാപാര്ത്തു; അപ്പോള് അവന്നു യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടുണ്ടായി, അവനോടുഏലീയാവേ, ഇവിടെ നിനക്കു എന്തു കാര്യം എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

9. And he came to a cave there, and lodged there. And, behold, the word of LORD came to him, and he said to him, What are thou doing here, Elijah?

10. അതിന്നു അവന് സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേക്കു വേണ്ടി ഞാന് വളരെ ശുഷ്കാന്തിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് നിന്റെ നിയമത്തെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചു നിന്റെ യാഗപീഠങ്ങളെ ഇടിച്ചു നിന്റെ പ്രവാചകന്മാരെ വാള്കൊണ്ടു കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു; ഞാന് ഒരുത്തന് മാത്രം ശേഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; അവര് എനിക്കും ജീവഹാനി വരുത്തുവാന് നോക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. And he said, I have been very jealous for LORD, the God of hosts. For the sons of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword. And I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to take it away.

11. നീ പുറത്തു വന്നു പര്വ്വതത്തില് യഹോവയുടെ മുമ്പാകെ നില്ക്ക എന്നു അവന് കല്പിച്ചു. അപ്പോള് ഇതാ യഹോവ കടന്നുപോകുന്നു; ശക്തിയുള്ള ഒരു കൊടുങ്കാറ്റു യഹോവയുടെ മുമ്പില് പര്വ്വതങ്ങളെ കീറി പാറകളെ തകര്ത്തു; എന്നാല് കാറ്റില് യഹോവ ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു; കാറ്റിന്റെ ശേഷം ഒരു ഭൂകമ്പം ഉണ്ടായി; ഭൂകമ്പത്തിലും യഹോവ ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു.

11. And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before LORD. And, behold, LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before LORD, but LORD was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but LORD was not in the earthquake.

12. ഭൂകമ്പത്തിന്റെ ശേഷം ഒരു തീ; തീയിലും യഹോവ ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു; തീയുടെ ശേഷം സാവധാനത്തില് ഒരു മൃദുസ്വരം ഉണ്ടായി.

12. And after the earthquake a fire, but LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire a still small voice.

13. ഏലീയാവു അതു കേട്ടിട്ടു തന്റെ പുതപ്പുകൊണ്ടു മുഖം മൂടി പുറത്തു വന്നു ഗുഹാമുഖത്തുനിന്നുഏലീയാവേ, ഇവിടെ നിനക്കു എന്തു കാര്യം എന്നു ചോദിക്കുന്ന ഒരു ശബ്ദം അവന് കേട്ടു.

13. And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entrance of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice to him, and said, What are thou doing here, Elijah?

14. അതിന്നു അവന് സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേക്കു വേണ്ടി ഞാന് വളരെ ശുഷ്കാന്തിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് നിന്റെ നിയമത്തെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചു, നിന്റെ യാഗപീഠങ്ങളെ ഇടിച്ചു, നിന്റെ പ്രവാചകന്മാരെ വാള്കൊണ്ടു കൊന്നു കളഞ്ഞു; ഞാന് ഒരുത്തന് മാത്രം ശേഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; എനിക്കും അവന് ജീവഹാനി വരുത്തുവാന് നോക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

15. യഹോവ അവനോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതെന്തെന്നാല്നീ പുറപ്പെട്ടു ദമ്മേശെക്കിന്റെ മരുഭൂമിവഴിയായി മടങ്ങിപ്പോക; നീ എത്തുമ്പോള് ഹസായേലിനെ അരാമിന്നു രാജാവായിട്ടു അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്ക.

15. And LORD said to him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus. And when thou come, thou shall anoint Hazael to be king over Syria.

16. നിംശിയുടെ മകനായ യേഹൂവിനെ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു രാജാവായിട്ടു അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്യേണം; ആബേല്-മെഹോലയില്നിന്നുള്ള സാഫാത്തിന്റെ മകനായ എലീശയെ നിനക്കു പകരം പ്രവാചകനായിട്ടു അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്കയും വേണം.

16. And thou shall anoint Jehu the son of Nimshi to be king over Israel. And thou shall anoint Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah to be prophet in thy place.

17. ഹസായേലിന്റെ വാളിന്നു തെറ്റിപ്പോകുന്നവനെ യേഹൂ കൊല്ലും; യേഹൂവിന്റെ വാളിന്നു തെറ്റിപ്പോകുന്നവനെ എലീശാ കൊല്ലും.

17. And it shall come to pass, that he who escapes from the sword of Hazael, Jehu shall kill. And he who escapes from the sword of Jehu, Elisha shall kill.

18. എന്നാല് ബാലിന്നു മടങ്ങാത്ത മുഴങ്കാലും അവനെ ചുംബനം ചെയ്യാത്ത വായുമുള്ളവരായി ആകെ ഏഴായിരംപേരെ ഞാന് യിസ്രായേലില് ശേഷിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

18. Yet I have reserved for me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth which has not kissed him.

19. അങ്ങനെ അവന് അവിടെനിന്നു പറപ്പെട്ടു സാഫാത്തിന്റെ മകനായ എലീശയെ കണ്ടെത്തി; അവന് പന്ത്രണ്ടു ഏര് കാള പൂട്ടി ഉഴുവിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു; പന്ത്രണ്ടാമത്തേതിനോടുകൂടെ താന് തന്നേ ആയിരുന്നു; ഏലീയാവു അവന്റെ അരികെ ചെന്നു തന്റെ പുതപ്പു അവന്റെ മേല് ഇട്ടു.

19. So he departed from there, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth. And Elijah passed over to him, and cast his mantle upon him.

20. അവന് കാളയെ വിട്ടു ഏലീയാവിന്റെ പിന്നാലെ ഔടിഞാന് എന്റെ അപ്പനെയും അമ്മയെയും ചുംബിച്ചു കൊള്ളട്ടെ; അതിന്റെശേഷം ഞാന് നിന്റെ പിന്നാലെ വരാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അതിന്നു അവന് പോയി വരിക; എന്നാല് ഞാന് നിനക്കു എന്തു ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നോര്ക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

20. And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said to him, Go back again, for what have I done to thee?

21. അങ്ങനെ അവന് അവനെ വിട്ടു ചെന്നു ഒരു ഏര് കാളയെ പിടിച്ചു അറുത്തു കാളയുടെ മരക്കോപ്പുകൊണ്ടു മാംസം പാകം ചെയ്തു ജനത്തിന്നു കൊടുത്തു; അവര് തിന്നു; പിന്നെ അവന് എഴുന്നേറ്റു ഏലീയാവിന്റെ പിന്നാലെ ചെന്നു അവന്നു ശുശ്രൂഷകനായ്തീര്ന്നു.

21. And he returned from following him, and took the yoke of oxen, and killed them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave to the people, and they ate. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered to him.
