1. യെരൂശലേംനിവാസികള് അവന്റെ ഇളയമകനായ അഹസ്യാവെ അവന്നു പകരം രാജാവാക്കി; അരബികളോടുകൂടെ പാളയത്തില് വന്ന പടക്കൂട്ടം മൂത്തവരെ ഒക്കെയും കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞിരുന്നു; ഇങ്ങനെ യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോരാമിന്റെ മകന് അഹസ്യാവു രാജാവായി.

1. Then the people of Jerusalem made Ahaziah, Jehoram's youngest son, their next king, since the marauding bands who came with the Arabs had killed all the older sons. So Ahaziah son of Jehoram reigned as king of Judah.

2. അഹസ്യാവു വാഴ്ചതുടങ്ങിയപ്പോള് അവന്നു നാല്പത്തിരണ്ടു വയസ്സായിരുന്നു; അവന് ഒരു സംവത്സരം യെരൂശലേമില് വാണു; അവന്റെ അമ്മെക്കു അഥല്യാ എന്നു പേര്; അവള് ഒമ്രിയുടെ മകളായിരുന്നു.

2. Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem one year. His mother was Athaliah, a granddaughter of King Omri.

3. അവനും ആഹാബ്ഗൃഹത്തിന്റെ വഴികളില് നടന്നു; ദുഷ്ടത പ്രവര്ത്തിപ്പാന് അവന്റെ അമ്മ അവന്നു ആലോചനക്കാരത്തി ആയിരുന്നു.

3. Ahaziah also followed the evil example of King Ahab's family, for his mother encouraged him in doing wrong.

4. അതുകൊണ്ടു അവന് ആഹാബ്ഗൃഹത്തെപ്പോലെ യഹോവേക്കു അനിഷ്ടമായുള്ളതു ചെയ്തു; അവര് അവന്റെ അപ്പന് മരിച്ചശേഷം അവന്റെ നാശത്തിന്നായി അവന്റെ ആലോചനക്കാരായിരുന്നു.

4. He did what was evil in the LORD's sight, just as Ahab's family had done. They even became his advisers after the death of his father, and they led him to ruin.

5. അവരുടെ ആലോചനപോലെ അവന് നടന്നു; യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവായ ആഹാബിന്റെ മകന് യോരാമിനോടുകൂടെ അവന് ഗിലെയാദിലെ രാമോത്തില് അരാംരാജാവായ ഹസായേലിനോടു യുദ്ധത്തിന്നു പോയി; എന്നാല് അരാമ്യര് യോരാമിനെ മുറിവേല്പിച്ചു.

5. Following their evil advice, Ahaziah joined King Joram, the son of King Ahab of Israel, in his war against King Hazael of Aram at Ramoth-gilead. When the Arameans wounded Joram in the battle,

6. അരാംരാജാവായ ഹസായേലിനോടുള്ള യുദ്ധത്തില് രാമയില്വെച്ചു ഏറ്റ മുറിവുകള്ക്കു ചികിത്സ ചെയ്യേണ്ടതിന്നു അവന് യിസ്രെയേലില് മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി; യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോരാമിന്റെ മകന് അസര്യ്യാവു ആഹാബിന്റെ മകനായ യോരാം ദീനമായി കിടക്കുകയാല് അവനെ കാണ്മാന് യിസ്രെയേലില് ചെന്നു.

6. he returned to Jezreel to recover from the wounds he had received at Ramoth. Because Joram was wounded, King Ahaziah of Judah went to Jezreel to visit him.

7. യോരാമിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നതു അഹസ്യാവിന്നു ദൈവഹിതത്താല് നാശഹേതുവായി ഭവിച്ചു; അവന് ചെന്ന സമയം ആഹാബ്ഗൃഹത്തിന്നു നിര്മ്മൂലനാശം വരുത്തുവാന് യഹോവ അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്തവനായി നിംശിയുടെ മകനായ യേഹൂവിന്റെ നേരെ അവന് യെഹോരാമിനോടു കൂടെ പുറപ്പെട്ടു.

7. But God had decided that this visit would be Ahaziah's downfall. While he was there, Ahaziah went out with Joram to meet Jehu son of Nimshi, whom the LORD had appointed to destroy the dynasty of Ahab.

9. പിന്നെ അവന് അഹസ്യാവെ അന്വേഷിച്ചു; അവന് ശമര്യ്യയില് ഒളിച്ചിരിക്കയായിരുന്നു; അവര് അവനെ പിടിച്ചു യേഹൂവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു കൊന്നു; പൂര്ണ്ണഹൃദയത്തോടെ യഹോവയെ അന്വേഷിച്ച യെഹോശാഫാത്തിന്റെ മകനല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവര് അവനെ അടക്കംചെയ്തു. ഇങ്ങനെ അഹസ്യാവിന്റെ ഗൃഹത്തില് ആര്ക്കും രാജത്വം വഹിപ്പാന് ശക്തിയില്ലാതെയിരുന്നു.

9. Then Jehu's men searched for Ahaziah, and they found him hiding in the city of Samaria. They brought him to Jehu, who killed him. Ahaziah was given a decent burial because the people said, 'He was the grandson of Jehoshaphat-- a man who sought the LORD with all his heart.' But none of the surviving members of Ahaziah's family was capable of ruling the kingdom.

10. അഹസ്യാവിന്റെ അമ്മയായ അഥല്യാ തന്റെ മകന് മരിച്ചുപോയി എന്നു കണ്ടിട്ടു എഴുന്നേറ്റു യെഹൂദാഗൃഹത്തിലെ രാജസന്തതിയെ ഒക്കെയും നശിപ്പിച്ചു.

10. When Athaliah, the mother of King Ahaziah of Judah, learned that her son was dead, she began to destroy the rest of Judah's royal family.

11. എന്നാല് രാജകുമാരിയായ യെഹോശബത്ത് കൊല്ലപ്പെടുന്ന രാജകുമാരന്മാരുടെ ഇടയില് നിന്നു അഹസ്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ യോവാശിനെ മോഷ്ടിച്ചെടുത്തു അവനെയും അവന്റെ ധാത്രിയെയും ഒരു ശയനഗൃഹത്തില് ആക്കി. ഇങ്ങനെ യെഹോരാംരാജാവിന്റെ മകളും യെഹോയാദാപുരോഹിതന്റെ ഭാര്യയുമായ യെഹോശബത്ത്--അവള് അഹസ്യാവിന്റെ സഹേദരിയല്ലോ--അഥല്യാ അവനെ കൊല്ലാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവനെ ഒളിപ്പിച്ചു.

11. But Ahaziah's sister Jehosheba, the daughter of King Jehoram, took Ahaziah's infant son, Joash, and stole him away from among the rest of the king's children, who were about to be killed. She put Joash and his nurse in a bedroom. In this way, Jehosheba, wife of Jehoiada the priest and sister of Ahaziah, hid the child so that Athaliah could not murder him.

12. അവന് അവരോടുകൂടെ ആറു സംവത്സരം ദൈവാലയത്തില് ഒളിച്ചിരുന്നു; എന്നാല് അഥല്യാ ദേശം വാണു.

12. Joash remained hidden in the Temple of God for six years while Athaliah ruled over the land.
