1. പിന്നെയും ഒരു ദിവസം ദൈവപുത്രന്മാര് യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് നില്പാന് ചെന്നു; സാത്താനും അവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് നില്പാന് ചെന്നു.

1. It happened also upon a time, that when the servants of God came and stood before the LORD, Sathan (also) came among them, and stood before him.

2. യഹോവ സാത്താനോടുനീ എവിടെനിന്നു വരുന്നു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു സാത്താന് യഹോവയോടുഞാന് ഭൂമിയില് ഊടാടി സഞ്ചരിച്ചിട്ടു വരുന്നു എന്നുത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

2. And the LORD said unto Sathan: From whence comest thou? Sathan answered and said: I have gone about the land, and walked thorow it.

3. യഹോവ സാത്താനോടുഎന്റെ ദാസനായ ഇയ്യോബിന്റെമേല് നീ ദൃഷ്ടിവെച്ചുവോ? അവനെപ്പോലെ നിഷ്കളങ്കനും നേരുള്ളവനും ദൈവഭക്തനും ദോഷം വിട്ടകലുന്നവനും ഭൂമിയില് ആരും ഇല്ലല്ലോ; അവന് തന്റെ ഭക്തിമുറുകെ പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; വെറുതെ അവനെ നശിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ എന്നെ സമ്മതിപ്പിച്ചു എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

3. Then said the LORD unto Sathan: Hast thou not considered my servant Job, how that he is an innocent and virtuous man such one as feareth God, and escheweth evil, and that there is none like him in the land? But thou movedst me against him, to punish him: yet is it in vain, for he continueth still in his godlyness.

4. സാത്താന് യഹോവയോടുത്വക്കിന്നു പകരം ത്വക്; മനുഷ്യന് തനിക്കുള്ളതൊക്കെയും തന്റെ ജീവന്നു പകരം കൊടുത്തുകളയും.

4. Sathan answered the LORD, and said: Skin for skin? yea a man will give all that ever he hath, for his life.

5. നിന്റെ കൈ നീട്ടി അവന്റെ അസ്ഥിയും മാംസവും ഒന്നു തൊടുക; അവന് നിന്നെ മുഖത്തു നോക്കി ത്യജിച്ചുപറയും എന്നുത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

5. But lay thine hand upon him, touch him once upon the bone and flesh, and (I hold) he shall curse thee to thy face.

6. യഹോവ സാത്താനോടുഇതാ, അവന് നിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഇരിക്കുന്നു; അവന്റെ പ്രാണനെമാത്രം തൊടരുതു എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

6. Then said the LORD unto Sathan: lo, there hast thou him in thy power, but spare his life.

7. അങ്ങനെ സാത്താന് യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധി വിട്ടു പുറപ്പെട്ടു ഇയ്യോബിനെ ഉള്ളങ്കാല്മുതല് നെറുകവരെ വല്ലാത്ത പരുക്കളാല് ബാധിച്ചു.

7. So went Sathan forth from the LORD, and smote Job with marvelous sore boils,(byles) from the sole of the foot unto his crown.

8. അവന് ഒരു ഔട്ടിന് കഷണം എടുത്തു തന്നെത്താന് ചുരണ്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു ചാരത്തില് ഇരുന്നു.

8. So that he sat upon the ground in the ashes, and scraped off the filth(atter) of his sores with a potsherd.

9. അവന്റെ ഭാര്യ അവനോടുനീ ഇനിയും നിന്റെ ഭക്തി മുറുകെ പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നുവോ? ദൈവത്തെ ത്യജിച്ചുപറഞ്ഞു മരിച്ചുകളക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. Then said his wife unto him: Dost thou (yet) continue in thy perfectness? curse God, and die.

10. അവന് അവളോടുഒരു പൊട്ടി സംസാരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ നീ സംസാരിക്കുന്നു; നാം ദൈവത്തിന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു നന്മ കൈക്കൊള്ളുന്നു; തിന്മയും കൈക്കൊള്ളരുതോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ഇതില് ഒന്നിലും ഇയ്യോബ് അധരങ്ങളാല് പാപം ചെയ്തില്ല.

10. But Job said unto her: Thou speakest like a foolish woman. Seeing we have received prosperity at the hand of God, wherefore should we not be content with adversity also? In all these things, did not Job sin with his lips.

11. അനന്തരം തേമാന്യനായ എലീഫസ്, ശൂഹ്യനായ ബില്ദാദ്, നയമാത്യനായ സോഫര് എന്നിങ്ങിനെ ഇയ്യോബിന്റെ മൂന്നു സ്നേഹിതന്മാര് ഈ അനര്ത്ഥമൊക്കെയും അവന്നു ഭവിച്ചതു കേട്ടപ്പോള് അവര് ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ സ്ഥലത്തുനിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു അവനോടു സഹതപിപ്പാനും അവനെ ആശ്വസിപ്പിപ്പാനും പോകേണമെന്നു തമ്മില് പറഞ്ഞൊത്തു.

11. Now when Job's friends heard of all the trouble, that happened to him, there came three of them, every one from his own place: namely, Eliphas the Thamanite, Baldad the Suhite, and Zophar the Naamathite. For they were agreed together to come, to shew their compassion on him, and to comfort him.

12. അവര് അകലെവെച്ചു നോക്കിയാറെ അവനെ തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞില്ല; അവര് ഉറക്കെ കരഞ്ഞു വസ്ത്രം കീറി പൊടി വാരി മേലോട്ടു തലയില് വിതറി.

12. So when they lift up their eyes afar off, they knew him not. Then they cried, and wept: then every one of them rent his clothes, and sprinkled dust upon their heads in the air.

13. അവന്റെ വ്യസനം അതികഠിനമെന്നു കണ്ടിട്ടു അവര് ആരും ഒരു വാക്കും മിണ്ടാതെ ഏഴു രാപ്പകല് അവനോടുകൂടെ നിലത്തിരുന്നു.

13. They sat them down by him also upon the ground seven days and seven nights. Neither was there any of them that spake one word unto him, for they saw that his pain was very great.
