1. കലഹത്തോടുകൂടി ഒരു വീടു നിറയെ യാഗഭോജനത്തിലും സ്വസ്ഥതയോടുകൂടി ഒരു കഷണം ഉണങ്ങിയ അപ്പം ഏറ്റവും നല്ലതു.

1. Better {is} a dry morsel, and quietness with it, than a house full of sacrifices {with} strife.

2. നാണംകെട്ട മകന്റെമേല് ബുദ്ധിമാനായ ദാസന് കര്ത്തൃത്വം നടത്തും; സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ ഇടയില് അവകാശം പ്രാപിക്കും.

2. A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.

3. വെള്ളിക്കു പുടം, പൊന്നിന്നു മൂശ; ഹൃദയങ്ങളെ ശോധന ചെയ്യുന്നവനോ യഹോവ.

3. The fining-pot {is} for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts.

4. ദുഷ്കര്മ്മി നീതികെട്ട അധരങ്ങള്ക്കു ശ്രദ്ധകൊടുക്കുന്നു; വ്യാജം പറയുന്നവന് വഷളത്വമുള്ള നാവിന്നു ചെവികൊടുക്കുന്നു.

4. A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips: {and} a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.

5. ദരിദ്രനെ പരിഹസിക്കുന്നവന് അവന്റെ സ്രഷ്ടാവിനെ നിന്ദിക്കുന്നു; ആപത്തില് സന്തോഷിക്കുന്നവന്നു ശിക്ഷ വരാതിരിക്കയില്ല.

5. He that mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker; {and} he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.

6. മക്കളുടെ മക്കള് വൃദ്ധന്മാര്ക്കും കിരീടമാകുന്നു; മക്കളുടെ മഹത്വം അവരുടെ അപ്പന്മാര് തന്നേ.

6. Children's children {are} the crown of old men; and the glory of children {is} their fathers.

7. സുഭാഷിതം പറയുന്ന അധരം ഭോഷന്നു യോഗ്യമല്ല; വ്യാജമുള്ള അധരം ഒരു പ്രഭുവിന്നു എങ്ങിനെ?

7. Excellent speech becometh not a fool: much less do lying lips a prince.

8. സമ്മാനം വാങ്ങുന്നവന്നു അതു രത്നമായി തോന്നും; അതു ചെല്ലുന്നെടത്തൊക്കെയും കാര്യം സാധിക്കും.

8. A gift {is as} a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.

9. സ്നേഹം തേടുന്നവന് ലംഘനം മറെച്ചുവെക്കുന്നു; കാര്യം പാട്ടാക്കുന്നവനോ മിത്രങ്ങളെ ഭേദിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

9. He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth {very} friends.

10. ഭോഷനെ നൂറു അടിക്കുന്നതിനെക്കാള് ബുദ്ധിമാനെ ഒന്നു ശാസിക്കുന്നതു അധികം ഫലിക്കും.

10. A reproof entereth more into a wise man than a hundred stripes into a fool.

11. മത്സരക്കാരന് ദോഷം മാത്രം അന്വേഷിക്കുന്നു; ക്രൂരനായോരു ദൂതനെ അവന്റെ നേരെ അയക്കും.

11. An evil {man} seeketh only rebellion: therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.

12. മൂഢനെ അവന്റെ ഭോഷത്വത്തില് എതിരിടുന്നതിനെക്കാള് കുട്ടികള് കാണാതെപോയ കരടിയെ എതിരിടുന്നതു ഭേദം.

12. Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.

13. ഒരുത്തന് നന്മെക്കു പകരം തിന്മ ചെയ്യുന്നു എങ്കില് അവന്റെ ഭവനത്തെ തിന്മ വിട്ടുമാറുകയില്ല.

13. Whoever rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.

14. കലഹത്തിന്റെ ആരംഭം മടവെട്ടി വെള്ളം വിടുന്നതുപോലെ; ആകയാല് കലഹമാകുംമുമ്പെ തര്ക്കം നിര്ത്തിക്കളക.

14. The beginning of strife {is as} when one letteth out water: therefore withdraw from contention, before it be meddled with.

15. ദുഷ്ടനെ നീതീകരിക്കുന്നവനും നീതിമാനെ കുറ്റം വിധിക്കുന്നവനും രണ്ടുപേരും യഹോവേക്കു വെറുപ്പു.

15. He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both {are} abomination to the LORD.

16. മൂഢന്നു ബുദ്ധിയില്ലാതിരിക്കെ ജ്ഞാനം സമ്പാദിപ്പാന് അവന്റെ കയ്യില് ദ്രവ്യം എന്തിനു?

16. Why {is there} a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing {he hath} no heart {to it}?

17. സ്നേഹിതന് എല്ലാകാലത്തും സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നു; അനര്ത്ഥകാലത്തു അവന് സഹോദരനായ്തീരുന്നു.

17. A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

18. ബുദ്ധിഹീനനായ മനുഷ്യന് കയ്യടിച്ചു കൂട്ടുകാരന്നു വേണ്ടി ജാമ്യം നിലക്കുന്നു.

18. A man void of understanding striketh hands, {and} becometh surety in the presence of his friend.

19. കലഹപ്രിയന് ലംഘനപ്രിയന് ആകുന്നു; പടിവാതില് പൊക്കത്തില് പണിയുന്നവന് ഇടിവു ഇച്ഛിക്കുന്നു.

19. He loveth transgression that loveth strife: {and} he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction.

20. വക്രഹൃദയമുള്ളവന് നന്മ കാണുകയില്ല; വികട നാവുള്ളവന് ആപത്തില് അകപ്പെടും.

20. He that hath a froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief.

21. ഭോഷനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചവന്നു അതു ഖേദകാരണമാകും; മൂഢന്റെ അപ്പന്നു സന്തോഷം ഉണ്ടാകയില്ല.

21. He that begetteth a fool {doeth it} to his sorrow: and the father of a fool hath no joy.

22. സന്തുഷ്ടഹൃദയം നല്ലോരു ഔഷധമാകുന്നു; തകര്ന്ന മനസ്സോ അസ്ഥികളെ ഉണക്കുന്നു.

22. A merry heart doeth good {like} a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

23. ദുഷ്ടന് ന്യായത്തിന്റെ വഴികളെ മറിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഒളിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുവരുന്ന സമ്മാനം വാങ്ങുന്നു.

23. A wicked {man} taketh a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment.

24. ജ്ഞാനം ബുദ്ധിമാന്റെ മുമ്പില് ഇരിക്കുന്നു; മൂഢന്റെ കണ്ണോ ഭൂമിയുടെ അറുതികളിലേക്കു നോക്കുന്നു.

24. Wisdom {is} before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool {are} in the ends of the earth.

25. മൂഢനായ മകന് അപ്പന്നു വ്യസനവും തന്നെ പ്രസവിച്ചവള്ക്കു കൈപ്പും ആകുന്നു.

25. A foolish son {is} a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bore him.

26. നീതിമാന്നു പിഴ കല്പിക്കുന്നതും ശ്രേഷ്ഠന്മാരെ നേര്നിമിത്തം അടിക്കുന്നതും നന്നല്ല.

26. Also to punish the just {is} not good, {nor} to strike princes for equity.

27. വാക്കു അടക്കിവെക്കുന്നവന് പരിജ്ഞാനമുള്ളവന് ; ശാന്തമാനസന് ബുദ്ധിമാന് തന്നേ.

27. He that hath knowledge spareth his words: {and} a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.

28. മിണ്ടാതിരുന്നാല് ഭോഷനെപ്പോലും ജ്ഞാനിയായും അധരം അടെച്ചുകൊണ്ടാല് വിവേകിയായും എണ്ണും.

28. Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: {and} he that shutteth his lips {is esteemed} a man of understanding.
