1. യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം കല്പിച്ചുനീ പോയി കുശവനോടു ഒരു മണ്കുടം വിലെക്കു വാങ്ങി ജനത്തിന്റെ മൂപ്പന്മാരിലും പുരോഹിതന്മാരുടെ മൂപ്പന്മാരിലും ചിലരെ കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു

1. THE WORD which came to Jeremiah from the Lord:

2. ഹര്സീത്ത് (ഔട്ടുനുറുകൂ) വാതിലിന്റെ പുറമെയുള്ള ബെന് -ഹിന്നോം താഴ്വരയില് ചെന്നു, ഞാന് നിന്നോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്ന വാക്കുകളെ അവിടെ പ്രസ്താവിച്ചു പറയേണ്ടതു

2. Arise and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause you to hear My words.

3. യെഹൂദാരാജാക്കന്മാരും യെരൂശലേം നിവസികളുമായുള്ളോരേ, യഹോവയുടെ വചനം കേള്പ്പിന് ! യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുകേള്ക്കുന്നവന്റെ ചെവി മുഴങ്ങത്തക്കവണ്ണം ഞാന് ഈ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു ഒരനര്ത്ഥം വരുത്തും.

3. Then I went down to the potter's house, and behold, he was working at the wheel.

4. അവര് എന്നെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചു, ഈ സ്ഥലത്തെ വഷളാക്കി, തങ്ങളും തങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരും യെഹൂദാരാജാക്കന്മാരും അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ലാത്ത അന്യദേവന്മാര്ക്കും അവിടെവെച്ചു ധൂപംകാട്ടി ഈ സ്ഥലത്തെ കുറ്റമില്ലാത്തവരുടെ രക്തംകൊണ്ടു നിറെക്കയും

4. And the vessel that he was making from clay was spoiled in the hand of the potter; so he made it over, reworking it into another vessel as it seemed good to the potter to make it.

5. ബാലിന്നു ഹോമബലികളായി തങ്ങളുടെ പുത്രന്മാരെ തീയില് ഇട്ടു ദഹിപ്പിപ്പാന് ബാലിന്നു പൂജാഗിരികളെ പണികയും ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു. അതു ഞാന് കല്പിച്ചിട്ടില്ല, അരുളിച്ചെയ്തിട്ടില്ല, എന്റെ മനസ്സില് വന്നിട്ടുമില്ല.

5. Then the word of the Lord came to me:

6. അതുകൊണ്ടു ഈ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു ഇനി തോഫെത്ത് എന്നും ബെന് -ഹിന്നോം താഴ്വര എന്നും പേരുപറയാതെ കുലത്താഴ്വര എന്നു പേരുപറയുന്ന കാലം വരും എന്നു യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു.

6. O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does? says the Lord. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel.

7. അങ്ങനെ ഞാന് ഈ സ്ഥലത്തുവെച്ചു യെഹൂദയുടെയും യെരൂശലേമിന്റെയും ആലോചനയെ നിഷ്ഫലമാക്കും; ഞാന് അവരെ ശത്രുക്കളുടെ മുമ്പില് വാള്കൊണ്ടും അവര്ക്കും പ്രാണഹാനി വരുത്തുവാന് നോക്കുന്നവരുടെ കൈകൊണ്ടും വീഴുമാറാക്കുകയും അവരുടെ ശവങ്ങളെ ആകാശത്തിലെ പക്ഷികള്ക്കും കാട്ടിലെ മൃഗങ്ങള്ക്കും ഇരയാക്കിക്കൊടുക്കയും ചെയ്യും.

7. At one time I will suddenly speak concerning a nation or kingdom, that I will pluck up and break down and destroy it;

8. ഞാന് ഈ നഗരത്തെ സ്തംഭനത്തിന്നും പരിഹാസത്തിന്നും വിഷയമാക്കിത്തീര്ക്കും; അതിന്നരികെ കടന്നുപോകുന്ന ഏവനും സ്തംഭിച്ചു അതിന്നു നേരിട്ട സകല ബാധകളും നിമിത്തം ചൂളകുത്തും.

8. And if [the people of] that nation concerning which I have spoken turn from their evil, I will relent and reverse My decision concerning the evil that I thought to do to them.

9. അവരുടെ ശത്രുക്കളും അവര്ക്കും പ്രാണഹാനി വരുത്തുവാന് നോക്കുന്നവരും അവരെ ഞെരുക്കുന്ന ഞെരുക്കത്തിലും നിരോധത്തിലും ഞാന് അവരെ സ്വന്ത പുത്രന്മാരുടെ മാംസവും പുത്രിമാരുടെ മാംസവും തിന്നുമാറാക്കും; ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ കൂട്ടുകാരന്റെ മാംസം തിന്നും.

9. At another time I will suddenly speak concerning a nation or kingdom, that I will build up and plant it;

10. പിന്നെ നിന്നോടുകൂടെ പോന്ന പുരുഷന്മാര് കാണ്കെ നീ ആ മണ്കുടും ഉടെച്ചു അവരോടു പറയേണ്ടതെന്തെന്നാല്

10. And if they do evil in My sight, obeying not My voice, then I will regret and reverse My decision concerning the good with which I said I would benefit them.

11. സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുനന്നാക്കിക്കൂടാതവണ്ണം കുശവന്റെ പാത്രം ഉടെച്ചുകളഞ്ഞതുപോലെ ഞാന് ഈ ജനത്തെയും ഈ നഗരത്തെയും ഉടെച്ചുകളയും. അടക്കം ചെയ്വാന് വേറെ സ്ഥലമില്ലായ്കകൊണ്ടു അവരെ തോഫെത്തില് അടക്കംചെയ്യും.

11. Now therefore say to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Thus says the Lord: Behold, I am shaping evil against you and devising a plan against you. Return now each one from his evil way; reform your [accustomed] ways and make your [individual] actions good and right.

12. ഇങ്ങനെ ഞാന് ഈ സ്ഥലത്തോടും അതിലെ നിവാസികളോടും ചെയ്യും; ഞാന് ഈ നഗരത്തെ തോഫെത്തിന്നു സമമാക്കും എന്നു യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു.

12. But they will say, That is in vain! For we will walk after our own devices, and we will each do as the stubbornness of his own evil heart dictates.

13. മലിനമായിരിക്കുന്ന യെരൂശലേം വീടുകളും യെഹൂദാരാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ അരമനകളും അവര് മേല്പുരകളില്വെച്ചു ആകാശത്തിലെ സര്വ്വസൈന്യത്തിന്നും ധൂപം കാണിക്കയും അന്യദേവന്മാര്ക്കും പാനീയബലി പകരുകയും ചെയ്ത എല്ലാ വീടുകളും തന്നേ തോഫെത്ത് എന്ന സ്ഥലംപോലെയാകും.

13. Therefore thus says the Lord: Ask now among the nations: Who has heard such things? Virgin Israel has done a very vile and horrible thing.

14. അനന്തരം യിരെമ്യാവു യഹോവ തന്നെ പ്രവചിപ്പാന് അയിച്ചിരുന്ന തോഫെത്തില്നിന്നു വന്നു, യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിന്റെ പ്രാകാരത്തില് നിന്നുകൊണ്ടു സകലജനത്തോടും

14. Will the snow of Mount Lebanon fail and vanish from its rocks [which tower above the land of Israel]? Will the cold, rushing waters of strange lands [that dash down from afar] be dried up?

15. യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുഅവര് എന്റെ വചനങ്ങളെ കേള്ക്കാതെ ശാഠ്യംപിടിച്ചിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു ഞാന് ഈ നഗരത്തിന്നു വിധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന അനര്ത്ഥം ഒക്കെയും അതിന്നു അതിന്നടുത്ത എല്ലാപട്ടണങ്ങള്ക്കും വരുത്തും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

15. Yet My people have forgotten Me; they burn incense to false gods, they have been caused to stumble in their ways and in the ancient roads, to walk in bypaths, in a way not graded and built up [not on a highway],
