1. അയ്യോ, ജനപൂര്ണ്ണയായിരുന്ന നഗരം ഏകാന്തയായിരിക്കുന്നതെങ്ങനെ? ജാതികളില് മഹതിയായിരുന്നവള് വിധവയെപ്പോലെ ആയതെങ്ങനെ? സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളുടെ നായകിയായിരുന്നവള് ഊഴിയവേലക്കാരത്തിയായതെങ്ങനെ?

1. And it came to pass, after Israel was taken captive, and Jerusalem made desolate, [that] Jeremiah sat weeping, and lamented with this lamentation over Jerusalem, and said: ALEPH. How does the city that was filled with people sit solitary! She has become as a widow: she that was magnified among the nations, and princess among the provinces, has become tributary.

2. രാത്രിയില് അവള് കരഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. അവളുടെ കവിള്ത്തടങ്ങളില് കണ്ണുനീര് കാണുന്നു; അവളുടെ സകലപ്രിയന്മാരിലും അവളെ ആശ്വസിപ്പിപ്പാന് ആരുമില്ല; അവളുടെ സ്നേഹിതന്മാരൊക്കെയും അവള്ക്കു ശത്രുക്കളായി ദ്രോഹം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

2. BETH. She weeps sore in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks; and there is none of all her lovers to comfort her: all that were her friends have dealt deceitfully with her, they have become her enemies.

3. കഷ്ടതയും കഠിനദാസ്യവുംനിമിത്തം യെഹൂദാ പ്രവാസത്തിലേക്കു പോകേണ്ടിവന്നു; അവള് ജാതികളുടെ ഇടയില് പാര്ക്കുംന്നു; വിശ്രാമം കണ്ടെത്തുന്നതുമില്ല; അവളെ പിന്തുടരുന്നവരൊക്കെയും ഇടുക്കിടങ്ങളില്വെച്ചു അവളെ എത്തിപ്പിടിക്കുന്നു.

3. GIMEL. Judea is gone into captivity by reason of her affliction, and by reason of the abundance of her servitude; she dwells among the nations, she has not found rest. All her pursuers have overtaken her between her oppressors.

4. ഉത്സവത്തിന്നു ആരും വരായ്കകൊണ്ടു സീയോനിലേക്കുള്ള വഴികള് ദുഃഖിക്കുന്നു; അവളുടെ വാതിലുകളൊക്കെയും ശൂന്യമായി. പുരോഹിതന്മാര് നെടുവീര്പ്പിടുന്നു; അവളുടെ കന്യകമാര് ഖേദിക്കുന്നു; അവള്ക്കും വ്യസനം പിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

4. DALETH. The ways of Zion mourn, because there are none that come to the feast. All her gates are ruined. Her priests groan, her virgins are led captive, and she is in bitterness in herself.

5. അവളുടെ അതിക്രമബാഹുല്യംനിമിത്തം യഹോവ അവള്ക്കു സങ്കടം വരുത്തിയതിനാല് അവളുടെ വൈരികള്ക്കു പ്രാധാന്യം ലഭിച്ചു, അവളുടെ ശത്രുക്കള് ശുഭമായിരിക്കുന്നു; അവളുടെ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങള് വൈരിയുടെ മുമ്പായി പ്രവാസത്തിലേക്കു പോകേണ്ടിവന്നു.

5. HE. Her oppressors have become the head, and her enemies have prospered; for the Lord has afflicted her because of the multitude of her sins. Her young children have gone into captivity before the face of the oppressor.

6. സീയോന് പുത്രിയുടെ മഹത്വമൊക്കെയും അവളെ വിട്ടുപോയി; അവളുടെ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാര് മേച്ചല് കാണാത്ത മാനുകളെപ്പോലെ ആയി; പിന്തുടരുന്നവന്റെ മുമ്പില് അവര് ശക്തിയില്ലാതെ നടക്കുന്നു.

6. VAU. And all her beauty has been taken away from the daughter of Zion. Her princes were as rams finding no pasture, and have gone [away] in weakness before the face of the pursuer.

7. കഷ്ടാരിഷ്ടതകളുടെ കാലത്തു യെരൂശലേം പണ്ടത്തെ മനോഹരവസ്തുക്കളെയൊക്കെയും ഔര്ക്കുംന്നു; സഹായിപ്പാന് ആരുമില്ലാതെ അവളുടെ ജനം വൈരിയുടെ കയ്യില് അകപ്പെട്ടപ്പോള്, വൈരികള് അവളെ നോക്കി അവളുടെ നാശത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു ചിരിച്ചു.

7. ZAIN. Jerusalem remembered the days of her affliction, and her rejection. [She thought on] all her desirable things which were from the days of old, when her people fell into the hands of the oppressor, and there was none to help her; when her enemies saw it, they laughed at her habitation.

8. യെരൂശലേം കഠിനപാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു മലിനയായിരിക്കുന്നു; അവളെ ബഹുമാനിച്ചവരൊക്കെയും അവളുടെ നഗ്നത കണ്ടിട്ടു അവളെ നിന്ദിക്കുന്നു; അവളോ നെടുവീര്പ്പിട്ടുകൊണ്ടു പിന്നോക്കം തിരിയുന്നു.

8. HETH. Jerusalem has sinned a great sin; therefore has she come into tribulation, all that used to honor her have afflicted her, for they have seen her shame: yea, she herself groaned, and turned backward.

9. അവളുടെ മലിനത ഉടുപ്പിന്റെ വിളുമ്പില് കാണുന്നു; അവള് ഭാവികാലം ഔര്ത്തില്ല; അവള് അതിശയമാംവണ്ണം വീണുപോയി; അവളെ ആശ്വസിപ്പിപ്പാന് ആരുമില്ല; യഹോവേ, ശത്രു വമ്പു പറയുന്നു; എന്റെ സങ്കടം നോക്കേണമേ.

9. TETH. Her uncleanness is before her feet; she remembered not her last end; she has lowered her boasting [tone], there is none to comfort her. Behold, O Lord, my affliction, for the enemy has magnified himself.

10. അവളുടെ സകലമനോഹരവസ്തുക്കളിന്മേലും വൈരി കൈവെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; നിന്റെ സഭയില് പ്രവേശിക്കരുതെന്നു നീ കല്പിച്ച ജാതികള് അവളുടെ വിശുദ്ധമന്ദിരത്തില് കടന്നതു അവള് കണ്ടുവല്ലോ.

10. JOD. The oppressor has stretched out his hand on all her desirable things, for she has seen the Gentiles entering into her sanctuary, [concerning] whom You commanded that they should not enter into Your congregation.

11. അവളുടെ സര്വ്വജനവും നെടുവീര്പ്പിട്ടുകൊണ്ടു ആഹാരം തിരയുന്നു; വിശപ്പടക്കുവാന് ആഹാരത്തിന്നു വേണ്ടി അവര് തങ്ങളുടെ മനോഹര വസ്തുക്കളെ കൊടുത്തുകളയുന്നു; യഹോവേ, ഞാന് നിന്ദിതയായിരിക്കുന്നതു കടാക്ഷിക്കേണമേ.

11. CHAPH. All her people groan, seeking bread: they have given their desirable things for meat, to restore their soul: behold, Lord, and look; for she has become dishonored.

12. കടന്നുപോകുന്ന ഏവരുമായുള്ളോരേ, ഇതു നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ഏതുമില്ലയോ? യഹോവ തന്റെ ഉഗ്രകോപദിവസത്തില് ദുഃഖിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന എനിക്കു അവന് വരുത്തിയ വ്യസനം പോലെ ഒരു വ്യസനം ഉണ്ടോ എന്നു നോക്കുവിന് !

12. LAMED. All you that pass by the way, turn, and see if there is sorrow likened to my sorrow, which has happened to me. The Lord who spoke by me has afflicted me in the day of His fierce anger.

13. ഉയരത്തില്നിന്നു അവന് എന്റെ അസ്ഥികളില് തീ അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; അതു കടന്നുപിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; എന്റെ കാലിന്നു അവന് വല വിരിച്ചു, എന്നെ മടക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു; അവന് എന്നെ ശൂന്യയും നിത്യരോഗിണിയും ആക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

13. MEM. He has sent fire from His lofty habitation, He has brought it into my bones: He has spread a net for my feet, He has turned me back: He has made me desolate and mourning all the day.

14. എന്റെ അതിക്രമങ്ങളുടെ നുകം അവന് സ്വന്തകയ്യാല് പിണെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു, അവ എന്റെ കഴുത്തില് പിണെഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു; അവന് എന്റെ ശക്തി ക്ഷയിപ്പിച്ചു; എനിക്കു എതിര്ത്തുനില്പാന് കഴിയാത്തവരുടെ കയ്യില് കര്ത്താവു എന്നെ ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

14. NUN. He has watched over my sins, they are twined about my hands, they have come up on my neck. My strength has failed, for the Lord has laid pains on my hands, I shall not be able to stand.

15. എന്റെ നടുവിലെ സകലബലവാന്മാരെയും കര്ത്താവു നിരസിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു; എന്റെ യൌവനക്കാരെ തകര്ത്തുകളയേണ്ടതിന്നു അവന് എന്റെ നേരെ ഒരു ഉത്സവയോഗം വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി; യെഹൂദാപുത്രിയായ കന്യകയെ കര്ത്താവു ചക്കില് ഇട്ടു ചിവിട്ടിക്കളഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.

15. SAMECH. The Lord has cut off all my strong men from the midst of me: He has summoned against me a time for crushing my choice men: the Lord has trodden a wine press for the virgin daughter of Judah: for these things I weep.

16. ഇതുനിമിത്തം ഞാന് കരയുന്നു; എന്റെ കണ്ണു കണ്ണുനീരൊഴുക്കുന്നു; എന്റെ പ്രാണനെ തണുപ്പിക്കേണ്ടുന്ന ആശ്വാസപ്രദന് എന്നോടു അകന്നിരിക്കുന്നു; ശത്രു പ്രബലനായിരിക്കയാല് എന്റെ മക്കള് നശിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

16. AIN. My eye has poured out water, because He that should comfort me, that should restore my soul, has been removed far from me. My sons have been destroyed, because the enemy has prevailed.

17. സീയോന് കൈ മലര്ത്തുന്നു; അവളെ ആശ്വസിപ്പിപ്പാന് ആരുമില്ല; യഹോവ യാക്കോബിന്നു അവന്റെ ചുറ്റും വൈരികളെ കല്പിച്ചാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു; യെരൂശലേം അവരുടെ ഇടയില് മലിനയായിരിക്കുന്നു.

17. PHE. Zion has spread out her hand, and there is none to comfort her: the Lord has commanded concerning Jacob, his oppressors are round about him: Jerusalem has become among them as a removed woman.

18. യഹോവ നീതിമാന് ; ഞാന് അവന്റെ കല്പനയോടു മത്സരിച്ചു; സകലജാതികളുമായുള്ളോരേ, കേള്ക്കേണമേ, എന്റെ വ്യസനം കാണേണമേ; എന്റെ കന്യകമാരും യൌവനക്കാരും പ്രവാസത്തിലേക്കു പോയിരിക്കുന്നു.

18. TSADE. The Lord is righteous, for I have provoked His mouth. Hear, I pray you, all people, and behold my grief: my virgins and my young men have gone into captivity.

19. ഞാന് എന്റെ പ്രിയന്മാരെ വിളിച്ചു; അവരോ എന്നെ ചതിച്ചു; എന്റെ പുരോഹിതന്മാരും മൂപ്പന്മാരും വിശപ്പടക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ആഹാരം തിരഞ്ഞുനടക്കുമ്പോള് നഗരത്തില് വെച്ചു പ്രാണനെ വിട്ടു.

19. KOPH. I called my lovers, but they deceived me: my priests and my elders failed in the city, for they sought meat that they might restore their souls, and found it not.

20. യഹോവേ, നോക്കേണമേ; ഞാന് വിഷമത്തിലായി എന്റെ ഉള്ളം കലങ്ങിയിരിക്കുന്നു; ഞാന് കഠിനമായി മത്സരിക്കകൊണ്ടു എന്റെ ഹൃദയം എന്റെ ഉള്ളില് മറിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു; പുറമേ വാള് സന്തതിനാശം വരുത്തുന്നു; വീട്ടിലോ മരണം തന്നേ.

20. RHECHS. Behold, O Lord; for I am afflicted; my belly is troubled, and my heart is turned within me; for I have been grievously rebellious; abroad the sword has bereaved me, even as death at home.

21. ഞാന് നെടുവീര്പ്പിടുന്നതു അവര് കേട്ടു; എന്നെ ആശ്വസിപ്പിപ്പാന് ആരുമില്ല; എന്റെ ശത്രുക്കളൊക്കെയും എന്റെ അനര്ത്ഥം കേട്ടു, നീ അതു വരുത്തിയതുകൊണ്ടു സന്തോഷിക്കുന്നു; നീ കല്പിച്ച ദിവസം നീ വരുത്തും; അന്നു അവരും എന്നെപ്പോലെയാകും.

21. CHSEN. Hear, I pray you, for I groan: there is none to comfort me: all my enemies have heard of my afflictions and rejoiced, because You have done it: You have brought on the day, You have called the time: they have become like to me.

22. അവരുടെ ദുഷ്ടതയൊക്കെയും തിരുമുമ്പില് വരട്ടെ; എന്റെ സകല അതിക്രമങ്ങളും നിമിത്തം നീ എന്നോടു ചെയ്തതുപോലെ അവരോടും ചെയ്യേണമേ; എന്റെ നെടുവിര്പ്പു വളരെയല്ലോ; എന്റെ ഹൃദയം രോഗാര്ത്തമായിരിക്കുന്നു.

22. THAU. Let all their wickedness come before Your face, and strip them, as they have made a gleaning for all my sins: for my groans are many, and my heart is grieved.
