1. സഹോദരന്മാരേ, അധികം ശിക്ഷാവിധിവരും എന്നു അറിഞ്ഞു നിങ്ങളില് അനേകര് ഉപദേഷ്ടാക്കന്മാര് ആകരുതു.

1. My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receiue the greater condemnation.

2. നാം എല്ലാവരും പലതിലും തെറ്റിപോകുന്നു; ഒരുത്തന് വാക്കില് തെറ്റാതിരുന്നാല് അവന് ശരീരത്തെ മുഴുവനും കടിഞ്ഞാണിട്ടു നടത്തുവാന് ശക്തനായി സല്ഗുണപൂര്ത്തിയുള്ള പുരുഷന് ആകുന്നു.

2. For in many things we sinne all. If any man sinne not in word, he is a perfect man, and able to bridle all the body.

3. കുതിരയെ അധീനമാക്കുവാന് വായില് കടിഞ്ഞാണ് ഇട്ടു അതിന്റെ ശരീരം മുഴുവനും തിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ.

3. Beholde, we put bittes into the horses mouthes, that they should obey vs, and we turne about all their bodie.

4. കപ്പലും എത്ര വലിയതു ആയാലും കൊടുങ്കാറ്റടിച്ചു ഔടുന്നതായാലും അമരക്കാരന് ഏറ്റവും ചെറിയ ചുക്കാന് കൊണ്ടു തനിക്കു ബോധിച്ച ദിക്കിലേക്കു തിരിക്കുന്നു.

4. Behold also the shippes, which though they be so great, and are driuen of fierce windes, yet are they turned about with a very small rudder, whither soeuer the gouernour listeth.

5. അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ നാവും ചെറിയ അവയവം എങ്കിലും വളരെ വമ്പു പറയുന്നു. കുറഞ്ഞ തീ എത്ര വലിയ കാടു കത്തിക്കുന്നു;

5. Euen so the tongue is a litle member, and boasteth of great things: beholde, howe great a thing a litle fire kindleth.

6. നാവും ഒരു തീ തന്നേ; അതു നമ്മുടെ അംഗങ്ങളുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് അനീതിലോകമായി ദേഹത്തെ മുഴുവന് മലിനമാക്കി ജീവചക്രത്തിന്നു തീ കൊളുത്തുകയും നരകത്താല് അതിന്നു തീ പിടിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.

6. And the tongue is fire, yea, a worlde of wickednesse: so is the tongue set among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature, and it is set on fire of hell.

7. മൃഗം, പക്ഷി, ഇഴജാതി, ജലജന്തു ഈവക എല്ലാം മനുഷ്യജാതിയോടു മരുങ്ങുന്നു, മരുങ്ങിയുമിരിക്കുന്നു.

7. For the whole nature of beasts, and of birds, and of creeping things, and things of the sea is tamed, and hath bene tamed of the nature of man.

8. നാവിനെയോ മനുഷ്യക്കാര്ക്കും മരുക്കാവതല്ല; അതു അടങ്ങാത്ത ദോഷം; മരണകരമായ വിഷം നിറഞ്ഞതു.

8. But the tongue can no man tame. It is an vnruly euill, full of deadly poyson.

9. അതിനാല് നാം കര്ത്താവും പിതാവുമായവനെ സ്തുതിക്കുന്നു; ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സാദൃശ്യത്തില് ഉണ്ടായ മനുഷ്യരെ അതിനാല് ശപിക്കുന്നു.

9. Therewith blesse we God euen the Father, and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.

10. ഒരു വായില്നിന്നു തന്നേ സ്തോത്രവും ശാപവും പുറപ്പെടുന്നു. സഹോദരന്മാരേ, ഇങ്ങനെ ആയിരിക്കുന്നതു യോഗ്യമല്ല.

10. Out of one mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing: my brethren, these things ought not so to be.

11. ഉറവിന്റെ ഒരേ ദ്വാരത്തില്നിന്നു മധുരവും കൈപ്പുമുള്ള വെള്ളം പുറപ്പെട്ടു വരുമോ?

11. Doeth a fountaine send forth at one place sweete water and bitter?

12. സഹോദരന്മാരേ, അത്തിവൃക്ഷം ഒലിവുപഴവും മുന്തിരിവള്ളി അത്തിപ്പഴവും കായിക്കുമോ? ഉപ്പുറവില്നിന്നു മധുരമുള്ള വെള്ളം പുറപ്പെടുകയുമില്ല.

12. Can ye figge tree, my brethren, bring forth oliues, either a vine figges? so can no fountaine make both salt water and sweete.

13. നിങ്ങളില് ജ്ഞാനിയും വിവേകിയുമായവന് ആര്? അവന് ജ്ഞാനലക്ഷണമായ സൌമ്യതയോടെ നല്ലനടപ്പില് തന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തികളെ കാണിക്കട്ടെ.

13. Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew by good conuersation his workes in meekenesse of wisdome.

14. എന്നാല് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ഹൃദയത്തില് കൈപ്പുള്ള ഈര്ഷ്യയും ശാഠ്യവും ഉണ്ടെങ്കില് സത്യത്തിന്നു വിരോധമായി പ്രശംസിക്കയും ഭോഷകു പറകയുമരുതു.

14. But if ye haue bitter enuying and strife in your hearts, reioyce not, neither be liars against the trueth.

15. ഇതു ഉയരത്തില്നിന്നു വരുന്ന ജ്ഞാനമല്ല, ഭൌമികവും പ്രാകൃതവും പൈശാചികവും ആയതത്രേ.

15. This wisedome descendeth not from aboue, but is earthly, sensuall, and deuilish.

16. ഈര്ഷ്യയും ശാഠ്യവും ഉള്ളേടത്തു കലക്കവും സകല ദുഷ്പ്രവൃത്തിയും ഉണ്ടു.

16. For where enuying and strife is, there is sedition, and all maner of euill workes.

17. ഉയരത്തില്നിന്നുള്ള ജ്ഞാനമോ ഒന്നാമതു നിര്മ്മലവും പിന്നെ സമാധാനവും ശാന്തതയും അനുസരണവുമുള്ളതും കരുണയും സല്ഫലവും നിറഞ്ഞതും പക്ഷപാതവും കപടവും ഇല്ലാത്തതുമാകുന്നു.

17. But the wisedome that is from aboue, is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easie to be intreated, full of mercie and good fruites, without iudging, and without hipocrisie.

18. എന്നാല് സമാധാനം ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നവര് സമാധാനത്തില് വിതെച്ചു നീതി എന്ന ഫലം കൊയ്യും.

18. And the fruite of righteousnesse is sowen in peace, of them that make peace.
