1. എന്നാല് ബോവസ് പട്ടണവാതില്ക്കല് ചെന്നു അവിടെ ഇരുന്നു; ബോവസ് പറഞ്ഞിരുന്ന വീണ്ടെടുപ്പുകാരന് കടന്നുപോകുന്നതു കണ്ടുഎടോ, ഇങ്ങോട്ടു വന്നു ഇവിടെ ഇരിക്ക എന്നു അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞു. അവന് ചെന്നു അവിടെ ഇരുന്നു.

1. Then Booz went up to the gate, and sat there. And when he had seen the kinsman going by, of whom he had spoken before, he said to him, calling him by his name: Turn aside for a little while, and sit down here. He turned aside, and sat down.

2. പിന്നെ അവന് പട്ടണത്തിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാരില് പത്തുപേരെ വരുത്തി; ഇവിടെ ഇരിപ്പിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; അവരും ഇരുന്നു.

2. And Booz taking ten men of the ancients of the city, said to them: Sit ye down here.

3. അപ്പോള് അവന് ആ വീണ്ടെടുപ്പുകാരനോടു പറഞ്ഞതുമോവാബ് ദേശത്തുനിന്നു മടങ്ങിവന്നിരിക്കുന്ന നൊവൊമി നമ്മുടെ സഹോദരനായ എലീമേലെക്കിന്റെ വയല് വിലക്കുന്നു. ആകയാല് നിന്നോടു അതു അറിയിപ്പാന് ഞാന് വിചാരിച്ചു; ഇവിടെ ഇരിക്കുന്നവരുടെയും ജനത്തിന്റെ മൂപ്പന്മാരുടെയും മുമ്പാകെ നീ അതു വിലെക്കു വാങ്ങുക;

3. They sat down, and he spoke to the kinsman: Noemi, who is returned from the country of Moab, will sell a parcel of land that belonged to our brother Elimelech.

4. നിനക്കു വീണ്ടെടുപ്പാന് മനസ്സുണ്ടെങ്കില് വീണ്ടെടുക്ക; വീണ്ടെടുപ്പാന് നിനക്കു മനസ്സില്ലെങ്കില് ഞാന് അറിയേണ്ടതിന്നു എന്നോടു പറക; നീയും നീ കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു ഞാനും അല്ലാതെ വീണ്ടെടുപ്പാന് ആരും ഇല്ല.

4. I would have thee to understand this, and would tell thee before all that sit here, and before the ancients of my people. If thou wilt take possession of it by the right of kindred: buy it and possess it: but if it please thee not, tell me so, that I may know what I have to do. For there is no near kinsman besides thee, who art first, and me, who am second. But he answered: I will buy the field.

5. അതിന്നു അവന് ഞാന് വീണ്ടെടുക്കാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അപ്പോള് ബോവസ്നീ നൊവൊമിയോടു വയല് വാങ്ങുന്ന നാളില് മരിച്ചവന്റെ അവകാശത്തിന്മേല് അവന്റെ പേര് നിലനിര്ത്തുവാന് തക്കവണ്ണം മരിച്ചവന്റെ ഭാര്യ മോവാബ്യ സ്ത്രീയായ രൂത്തിനെയും വാങ്ങേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

5. And Booz said to him: When thou shalt buy the field at the woman's hand, thou must take also Ruth the Moabitess, who was the wife of the deceased: to raise up the name of thy kinsman in his inheritance.

6. അതിന്നു വീണ്ടെടുപ്പുകാരന് എനിക്കു അതു വീണ്ടെടുപ്പാന് കഴികയില്ല; എന്റെ സ്വന്ത അവകാശം നഷ്ടമാക്കേണ്ടിവരും; ആകയാല് ഞാന് വീണ്ടെടുക്കേണ്ടതു നീ വീണ്ടെടുത്തുകൊള്ക; എനിക്കു വീണ്ടെടുപ്പാന് കഴികയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

6. He answered: I yield up my right of next akin: for I must not cut off the posterity of my own family. Do thou make use of my privilege, which I profess I do willingly forego.

7. എന്നാല് വീണ്ടെടുപ്പും കൈമാറ്റവും സംബന്ധിച്ചുള്ള കാര്യം ഉറപ്പാക്കുവാന് ഒരുത്തന് തന്റെ ചെരിപ്പൂരി മറ്റേവന്നു കൊടുക്കുന്നതു യിസ്രായേലില് പണ്ടു നടപ്പായിരുന്നു; ഇതായിരുന്നു യിസ്രായേലില് ഉറപ്പാക്കുന്ന വിധം.

7. Now this in former times was the manner in Israel between kinsmen, that if at any time one yielded his right to another: that the grant might be sure, the man put off his shoe, and gave it to his neighhour; this was a testimony of cession of right in Israel.

8. അങ്ങനെ ആ വീണ്ടെടുപ്പുകാരന് ബോവസിനോടുനീ അതു വാങ്ങിക്കൊള്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു തന്റെ ചെരിപ്പൂരിക്കൊടുത്തു.

8. So Booz said to his kinsman: Put off thy shoe. And immediately he took it off from his foot.

9. അപ്പോള് ബോവസ് മൂപ്പന്മാരോടും സകല ജനത്തോടും പറഞ്ഞതുഎലീമേലെക്കിന്നുള്ളതൊക്കെയും കില്യോന്നും മഹ്ളോന്നും ഉള്ളതൊക്കെയും ഞാന് നൊവൊമിയോടു വാങ്ങിയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നതിന്നു നിങ്ങള് ഇന്നു സാക്ഷികള് ആകുന്നു.

9. And he said to the ancients and to all the people: You are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech's, and Chelion's, and Mahalon's, of the hand of Noemi:

10. അത്രയുമല്ല മരിച്ചവന്റെ പേര് അവന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ ഇടയില്നിന്നും അവന്റെ പട്ടണവാതില്ക്കല്നിന്നും മാഞ്ഞുപോകാതവണ്ണം മരിച്ചവന്റെ പേര് അവന്റെ അവകാശത്തിന്മേല് നിലനിര്ത്തേണ്ടതിന്നു മഹ്ളോന്റെ ഭാര്യ മോവാബ്യസ്ത്രീയായ രൂത്തിനെയും എനിക്കു ഭാര്യയായി വാങ്ങിയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നതിന്നും നിങ്ങള് ഇന്നു സാക്ഷികള് ആകുന്നു.

10. And have taken to wife Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahalon, to raise up the name of the deceased in his inheritance lest his name be cut off, from among his family and his brethren and his people. You, I say, are witnesses of this thing.

11. അതിന്നു പട്ടണവാതില്ക്കല് ഇരുന്ന സകലജനവും മൂപ്പന്മാരും പറഞ്ഞതുഞങ്ങള് സാക്ഷികള് തന്നേ; നിന്റെ വീട്ടില് വന്നിരിക്കുന്ന സ്ത്രീയെ യഹോവ റാഹേലിനെപ്പോലെയും ലേയയെപ്പോലെയും ആക്കട്ടെ; അവര് ഇരുവരുമല്ലോ യിസ്രായേല്ഗൃഹം പണിതതു; എഫ്രാത്തയില് നീ പ്രബലനും ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമില് വിശ്രുതനുമായിരിക്ക.

11. Then all the people that were in the gate, and the ancients answered: We are witnesses: The Lord make this woman who cometh into thy house, like Rachel, and Lia, who built up the house of Israel: that she may be an example of virtue in Ephrata, and may have a famous name in Bethlehem:

12. ഈ യുവതിയില്നിന്നു യഹോവ നിനക്കു നലകുന്ന സന്തതിയാല് നിന്റെ ഗൃഹം താമാര് യെഹൂദെക്കു പ്രസവിച്ച ഫേരെസിന്റെ ഗൃഹം പോലെ ആയ്തീരട്ടെ.

12. And that the house may be, as the house of Phares, whom Thamar bore unto Juda, of the seed which the Lord shall give thee of this young woman.

13. ഇങ്ങനെ ബോവസ് രൂത്തിനെ പരിഗ്രഹിച്ചു; അവള് അവന്നു ഭാര്യയായി; അവന് അവളുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നപ്പോള് യഹോവ അവള്ക്കു ഗര്ഭംനല്കി; അവള് ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു.

13. Booz therefore took Ruth, and married her: and went in unto her, and the Lord gave her to conceive and to bear a son.

14. എന്നാറെ സ്ത്രീകള് നൊവൊമിയോടുഇന്നു നിനക്കു ഒരു വീണ്ടെടുപ്പുകാരനെ നല്കിയിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു യഹോവ വാഴ്ത്തപ്പെട്ടവന് ; അവന്റെ പേര് യിസ്രായേലില് വിശ്രുതമായിരിക്കട്ടെ.

14. And the women said to Noemi: Blessed be the Lord, who hath not suffered thy family to want a successor, that his name should be preserved in Israel.

15. അവന് നിനക്കു ആശ്വാസപ്രദനും നിന്റെ വാര്ദ്ധക്യത്തിങ്കല് പോഷകനും ആയിരിക്കും. നിന്നെ സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നവളും ഏഴു പുത്രന്മാരെക്കാള് നിനക്കു ഉത്തമയുമായിരിക്കുന്ന നിന്റെ മരുമകളല്ലോ അവനെ പ്രസവിച്ചതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

15. And thou shouldst have one to comfort thy soul, and cherish thy old age. For he is born of thy daughter in law: who loveth thee: and is much better to thee, than if thou hadst seven sons.

16. നൊവൊമി കുഞ്ഞിനെ എടുത്തു മടിയില് കിടത്തി അവന്നു ധാത്രിയായ്തീര്ന്നു.

16. And Noemi taking the child laid it in her bosom, and she carried it, and was a nurse unto it.

17. അവളുടെ അയല്ക്കാരത്തികള്നൊവൊമിക്കു ഒരു മകന് ജനിച്ചു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവന്നു ഔബേദ് എന്നു പേര് വിളിച്ചു; ദാവീദിന്റെ അപ്പനായ യിശ്ശായിയുടെ അപ്പന് ഇവന് തന്നേ.

17. And the women her neighbours, congratulating with her and saying: There is a son born to Noemi: called his name Obed: he is the father of Isai, the father of David.

18. ഫേരെസിന്റെ വംശപാരമ്പര്യമാവിതുഫേരെസ് ഹെസ്രോനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചു. ഹെസ്രോന് രാമിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചു.

18. These are the generations of Phares: Phares begot Esron,

19. രാം അമ്മീനാദാബിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചു.

19. Esron begot Aram, Aram begot Aminadab,

20. അമ്മീനാദാബ് നഹശോനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചു; നഹശോന് സല്മോനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചു.

20. Aminadab begot Nahasson, Nahasson begot Salmon,

21. സല്മോന് ബോവസിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചു; ബോവസ് ഔബേദിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചു.

21. Salmon begot Booz, Booz begot Obed,

22. ഔബേദ് യിശ്ശായിയെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചു; യിശ്ശായി ദാവീദിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചു.
