1. അനന്തരം യഹോവ ശമൂവേലിനോടുയിസ്രായേലിലെ രാജസ്ഥാനത്തില്നിന്നു ഞാന് ശൌലിനെ തള്ളിയെന്നറിഞ്ഞിരിക്കെ നീ അവനെക്കുറിച്ചു എത്രത്തോളം ദുഃഖിക്കും? കൊമ്പില് തൈലം നിറെച്ചു പുറപ്പെടുക; ഞാന് നിന്നെ ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമ്യനായ യിശ്ശായിയുടെ അടുക്കല് അയക്കും; അവന്റെ മക്കളില് ഞാന് ഒരു രാജാവിനെ കണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.
ലൂക്കോസ് 3:31-32

1. And then the LORD said unto Samuel: How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have cast him away from reigning over Israel? fill an horn with ointment, and come: I will send thee to Isai the Bethlehemite, for I have spied me a king among his sons.

2. അതിന്നു ശമൂവേല്ഞാന് എങ്ങനെ പോകും? ശൌല് കേട്ടാല് എന്നെ കൊല്ലും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. എന്നാറെ യഹോവനീ ഒരു പശുക്കിടാവിനെയും കൊണ്ടുചെന്നുഞാന് യഹോവേക്കു യാഗം കഴിപ്പാന് വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറക.

2. But Samuel answered: how shall I go? for Saul shall hear it and will kill me. And the LORD said: Take an heifer with thee, and say thou goest to offer to the LORD.

3. യിശ്ശായിയെയും യാഗത്തിന്നു ക്ഷണിക്ക; നീ ചെയ്യേണ്ടതു എന്തെന്നു ഞാന് അന്നേരം നിന്നോടു അറിയിക്കും; ഞാന് പറഞ്ഞുതരുന്നവനെ നീ എനിക്കായിട്ടു അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്യേണം.

3. And call Isai to the offering, and I will shew thee what thou shalt do: And thou shalt anoint him whom I say unto thee.

4. യഹോവ കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ ശമൂവേല് ചെയ്തു, ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമില് ചെന്നു; പട്ടണത്തിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാര് അവന്റെ വരവിങ്കല് വിറെച്ചുകൊണ്ടു അവനെ എതിരേറ്റുനിന്റെ വരവു ശുഭം തന്നേയോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

4. And Samuel did as the LORD bade him. And when he came to Bethlehem, the elders of the town were astonied at his coming, and said: Betokeneth thy coming peace?

5. അതിന്നു അവന് ശുഭം തന്നേ; ഞാന് യഹോവേക്കു യാഗം കഴിപ്പാന് വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു; നിങ്ങളെ തന്നേ ശുദ്ധീകരിച്ചു എന്നോടുകൂടെ യാഗത്തിന്നു വരുവിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവന് യിശ്ശായിയെയും അവന്റെ മക്കളെയും ശുദ്ധീകരിച്ചു അവരെയും യാഗത്തിന്നു ക്ഷണിച്ചു.

5. and he said yea, for I am come to offer unto the LORD. Cleanse yourselves and come with me to the offering. And he purified Isai and his sons, and bade them to the offering.

6. അവര് വന്നപ്പോള് അവന് എലീയാബിനെ കണ്ടിട്ടുയഹോവയുടെ മുമ്പാകെ അവന്റെ അഭിഷിക്തന് ഇതാ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

6. And when they were come, he looked on Eliab and said: the LORD's anointed is before him.

7. യഹോവ ശമൂവേലിനോടുഅവന്റെ മുഖമോ പൊക്കമോ നോക്കരുതു; ഞാന് അവനെ തള്ളിയിരിക്കുന്നു. മുനഷ്യന് നോക്കുന്നതുപോലെയല്ല; മനുഷ്യന് കണ്ണിന്നു കാണുന്നതു നോക്കുന്നു; യഹോവയോ ഹൃദയത്തെ നോക്കുന്നു എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

7. But the LORD said unto Samuel: look not on his fashion nor on the height of his stature, for I have refused him. Because it is not as man seeth. For man looketh on the outward appearance: but the LORD beholdeth the heart.

8. പിന്നെ യിശ്ശായി അബീനാദാബിനെ വിളിച്ചു ശമൂവേലിന്റെ മുമ്പില് വരുത്തി; എന്നാറെ അവന് യഹോവ ഇവനെയും തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിട്ടില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

8. Then Isai called Abinadab and made him come before Samuel. And he said: neither hath the LORD chosen this.

9. പിന്നെ യിശ്ശായി ശമ്മയെയും വരുത്തി. ഇവനെയും യഹോവ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിട്ടില്ല എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

9. Then Isai made Samah come, and he said: neither hath the LORD chosen him.

10. അങ്ങനെ യിശ്ശായി ഏഴു പുത്രന്മാരെ ശമൂവേലിന്റെ മുമ്പില് വരുത്തി; എന്നാല് ശമൂവേല് യിശ്ശായിയോടുയഹോവ ഇവരെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിട്ടില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. Then made Isai seven of his sons come before Samuel. And Samuel said, the LORD hath chosen none of these.

11. നിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാര് എല്ലാവരുമായോ എന്നു ശമൂവേല് ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു അവന് ഇനി, ഉള്ളതില് ഇളയവന് ഉണ്ടു; അവന് ആടുകളെ മേയ്ക്കയാകുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ശമൂവേല് യിശ്ശായിയോടുആളയച്ചു അവനെ വരുത്തുക; അവന് വന്നിട്ടല്ലാതെ നാം പന്തിക്കിരിക്കയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

11. Then said Samuel to Isai: are here all thy children? and he said: the youngest is yet behind: Behold, he keepeth the sheep. Then Samuel said unto Isai: send and fetch him for we will not sit down, till he be come hither.

12. ഉടനെ അവന് ആളയച്ചു അവനെ വരുത്തി; എന്നാല് അവന് പവിഴനിറമുള്ളവനും സുനേത്രനും കോമളരൂപിയും ആയിരുന്നു. അപ്പോള് യഹോവഎഴുന്നേറ്റു ഇവനെ അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്ക; ഇവന് തന്നേ ആകുന്നു എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

12. And he sent and brought him in. And he was brown with goodly eyes, and well favoured in sight. And then the LORD said up and anoint him: for this is he.

13. അങ്ങനെ ശമൂവേല് തൈലക്കൊമ്പു എടുത്തു അവന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ നടുവില് വെച്ചു അവനെ അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്തു; യഹോവയുടെ ആത്മാവു അന്നുമുതല് ദാവീദിന്മേല് വന്നു. ശമൂവേല് എഴുന്നേറ്റു രാമയിലേക്കു പോയി.

13. And Samuel took the horn with the ointment and anointed him in the presence of his brethren. And the spirit of the LORD came upon David, from that day forward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramath.

14. എന്നാല് യഹോവയുടെ ആത്മാവു ശൌലിനെ വിട്ടുമാറി; യഹോവ അയച്ച ഒരു ദൂരാത്മാവു അവനെ ബാധിച്ചു.

14. But the spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit sent of the LORD, vexed him.

15. അപ്പോള് ശൌലിന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാര് അവനോടുദൈവം അയച്ച ഒരു ദൂരാത്മാവു നിന്നെ ബാധിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ.

15. Then said his servants unto him: Behold, an evil spirit sent of God vexeth thee,

16. ആകയാല് കിന്നരവായനയില് നിപുണനായ ഒരുത്തനെ അന്വേഷിപ്പാന് തിരുമനസ്സുകൊണ്ടു അടിയങ്ങള്ക്കു കല്പന തരേണം; എന്നാല് ദൈവത്തിങ്കല് നിന്നു ദുരാത്മാവു തിരുമേനിമേല് വരുമ്പോള് അവന് കൈകൊണ്ടു വായിക്കയും തിരുമേനിക്കു ഭേദം വരികയും ചെയ്യും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

16. let our lord therefore command his servants to seek a man that is a cunning player with an harp. And then when the evil spirit sent of God, cometh upon thee, that he may play with his hand, and thou shalt be eased.

17. ശൌല് തന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരോടുകിന്നരവായനയില് നിപുണനായ ഒരുത്തനെ അന്വേഷിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുവരുവിന് എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

17. And Saul said unto his servants: seek me a man that can well play, and bring him to me.

18. ബാല്യക്കാരില് ഒരുത്തന് ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമ്യനായ യിശ്ശായിയുടെ ഒരു മകനെ ഞാന് കണ്ടിട്ടുണ്ടു; അവന് കിന്നരവായനയില് നിപുണനും പരാക്രമശാലിയും യോദ്ധാവും വാക്ചാതുര്യമുള്ളവനും കോമളനും ആകുന്നു; യഹോവയും അവനോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

18. Then answered one of his servants and said: Behold, I have seen a son of Isai the Bethelehemite, that can play upon instruments, and is an active fellow and a man of war and prudent and well made, and the LORD is with him,

19. എന്നാറെ ശൌല് യിശ്ശായിയുടെ അടുക്കല് ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചുആടുകളോടു കൂടെ ഇരിക്കുന്ന നിന്റെ മകന് ദാവീദിനെ എന്റെ അടുക്കല് അയക്കേണം എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.

19. whereupon Saul sent messengers unto Isai and said: send me David thy son which is with the sheep.

20. യിശ്ശായി ഒരു കഴുതയെ വരുത്തി, അതിന്റെ പുറത്തു അപ്പം, ഒരു തുരുത്തി വീഞ്ഞു, ഒരു കോലാട്ടിന് കുട്ടി എന്നിവ കയറ്റി തന്റെ മകന് ദാവീദ്വശം ശൌലിന്നു കൊടുത്തയച്ചു.

20. And Isai took an ass laden with bread, and a flacket of wine, and a kid, and sent them by David his son unto Saul.

21. ദാവീദ് ശൌലിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു അവന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ നിന്നു; അവന്നു അവനോടു വളരെ സ്നേഹമായി; അവന് അവന്റെ ആയുധവാഹകനായ്തീര്ന്നു.

21. And David went to Saul and came before him, and he loved him very well, so that he was made his harness bearer.

22. ആകയാല് ശൌല് യിശ്ശായിയുടെ അടുക്കല് ആളയച്ചുദാവീദിനോടു എനിക്കു ഇഷ്ടം തോന്നിയിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു അവന് എന്റെ അടുക്കല് താമസിക്കട്ടെ എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.

22. And Saul sent to Isai saying: let David remain with me, for he hath found favour in my sight.

23. ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പക്കല്നിന്നു ദുരാത്മാവു ശൌലിന്മേല് വരുമ്പോള് ദാവീദ് കിന്നരം എടുത്തു വായിക്കും; ശൌലിന്നു ആശ്വാസവും സുഖവും ഉണ്ടാകും; ദുരാത്മാവു അവനെ വിട്ടുമാറും.

23. And when the spirit of God came upon Saul, David took an harp and played with his hand, and so Saul was refreshed, and did amend and the evil spirit departed from him.
