1. അനന്തരം ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് സൈന്യങ്ങളെ യുദ്ധത്തിന്നു ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂട്ടി; അവന് യെഹൂദെക്കുള്ള സോഖോവില് ഒരുമിച്ചുകൂടി സോഖോവിന്നും അസേക്കെക്കും മദ്ധ്യേ ഏഫെസ്-ദമ്മീമില് പാളയമിറങ്ങി.

1. Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle and were gathered together at Shochoh, which [belongs] to Judah, and pitched camp between Shochoh and Azekah in Ephesdammim.

2. ശൌലും യിസ്രായേല്യരും ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂടി, ഏലാതാഴ്വരയില് പാളയമിറങ്ങി ഫെലിസ്ത്യരോടു പടെക്കു അണിനിരത്തി;

2. And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together and pitched camp by the valley of Elah and ordered the battle against the Philistines.

3. ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് ഇപ്പുറത്തു ഒരു മലഞ്ചരിവിലും യിസ്രായേല്യര് അപ്പുറത്തു ഒരു മലഞ്ചരിവിലും നിന്നു; അവരുടെ മദ്ധ്യേ ഒരു താഴ്വര ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

3. And the Philistines stood on a mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on a mountain on the other side; and [there was] a valley between them.

4. അപ്പോള് ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ പാളയത്തില്നിന്നു ഗഥ്യനായ ഗൊല്യാത്ത് എന്ന ഒരു മല്ലന് പുറപ്പെട്ടു; അവന് ആറു മുഴവും ഒരു ചാണും നെടുപ്പമുള്ളവന് ആയിരുന്നു.

4. And a man named Goliath, of Gath, whose height [was] six cubits and a span, came out of the camp of the Philistines and [stood] between the two [camps].

5. അവന്നു തലയില് ഒരു താമ്രശിരസ്ത്രം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന് അയ്യായിരം ശേക്കെല് തൂക്കമുള്ള ഒരു താമ്രകവചവും ധരിച്ചിരുന്നു.

5. And [he had] a helmet of brass upon his head, and he [was] clothed with a coat of mail of scales; and the weight of the coat of mail [was] five thousand shekels of brass.

6. അവന്നു താമ്രംകൊണ്ടുള്ള കാല്ചട്ടയും ചുമലില് താമ്രം കൊണ്ടുള്ള ഒരു വേലും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

6. And [he had] greaves of brass upon his legs and a shield of brass between his shoulders.

7. അവന്റെ കുന്തത്തിന്റെ തണ്ടു നെയ്ത്തുകാരന്റെ പടപ്പുതടിപോലെ ആയിരുന്നു; കുന്തത്തിന്റെ അലകു അറുനൂറു ശേക്കെല് ഇരിമ്പു ആയിരുന്നു; ഒരു പരിചക്കാരന് അവന്റെ മുമ്പെ നടന്നു.

7. And the staff of his spear [was] like a weaver's beam, and his spear's head [weighed] six hundred shekels of iron, and one bearing a shield went before him.

8. And he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel and said unto them, Why are ye come out to set [your] battle in array? [Am] I not a Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? Choose a man from among you, and let him come down to me.

9. If he is able to fight with me and to overcome me, then will we be your servants, but if I prevail against him and overcome him, then ye shall be our servants and serve us.

10. And the Philistine said, I have dishonoured the ranks of Israel today; give me a man that we may fight together.

11. When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid.

12. എന്നാല് ദാവീദ് യെഹൂദയിലെ ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമില് യിശ്ശായി എന്നു പേരുള്ള ഒരു എഫ്രാത്യന്റെ മകന് ആയിരുന്നു; യിശ്ശായിക്കു എട്ടു മക്കള് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന് ശൌലിന്റെ കാലത്തു വയസ്സുചെന്നു വൃദ്ധനായിരുന്നു.

12. And David [was] the son of an Ephrathite man of Bethlehem of Judah, whose name [was] Jesse, and he had eight sons, and this man was old in the days of Saul and of advanced age among men.

13. യിശ്ശായിയുടെ മൂത്ത മക്കള് മൂവരും പുറപ്പെട്ടു ശൌലിന്റെ കൂടെ യുദ്ധത്തിന്നു ചെന്നിരുന്നു. യുദ്ധത്തിന്നു പോയ മൂന്നു മക്കള് ആദ്യജാതന് ഏലീയാബും അവന്റെ അനുജന് അബീനാദാബും മൂന്നാമത്തെവന് ശമ്മയും ആയിരുന്നു.

13. And the three eldest sons of Jesse had gone [and] followed Saul to the battle. And the names of his three sons that went to the battle [were] Eliab, the firstborn, and next unto him Abinadab and the third Shammah.

14. ദാവീദോ എല്ലാവരിലും ഇളയവന് ; മൂത്തവര് മൂവരും ശൌലിന്റെ കൂടെ പോയിരുന്നു.

14. And David [was] the youngest, the three eldest having gone after Saul.

15. ദാവിദ് ശൌലിന്റെ അടുക്കല് നിന്നു തന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ ആടുകളെ മേയിപ്പാന് ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമില് പോയിവരിക പതിവായിരുന്നു.

15. But David had gone and returned from [being] with Saul to feed his father's sheep in Bethlehem.

16. ആ ഫെലിസ്ത്യന് നാല്പതു ദിവസം മുടങ്ങാതെ രാവിലെയും വൈകുന്നേരവും മുമ്പോട്ടു വന്നുനിന്നു.

16. And the Philistine drew near morning and evening and presented himself for forty days.

17. യിശ്ശായി തന്റെ മകനായ ദാവീദിനോടു പറഞ്ഞതുഈ ഒരു പറ മലരും അപ്പം പത്തും എടുത്തു പാളയത്തില് നിന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കല് വേഗം കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു കൊടുക്ക.

17. And Jesse said unto David his son, Take now for thy brethren an ephah of this parched [grain] and these ten loaves and run to the camp to thy brethren

18. ഈ പാല്ക്കട്ട പത്തും സഹസ്രാധിപന്നു കൊടുക്ക; നിന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ ക്ഷേമം ചോദിച്ചു ലക്ഷ്യവും വാങ്ങി വരിക.

18. and carry these ten cheeses unto the captain of [their] thousand and look how thy brethren fare and take their pledge.

19. ശൌലും അവരും യിസ്രായേല്യര് ഒക്കെയും ഏലാതാഴ്വരയില് ഫെലിസ്ത്യരോടു യുദ്ധം ചെയ്യുന്നുണ്ടു.

19. Now Saul and they and all the men of Israel [were] in the valley of Elah, fighting against the Philistines.

20. അങ്ങനെ ദാവീദ് അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റു ആടുകളെ കാവല്ക്കാരന്റെ പക്കല് വിട്ടേച്ചു, യിശ്ശായി തന്നോടു കല്പിച്ചതൊക്കെയും എടുത്തുംകൊണ്ടു ചെന്നു കൈനിലയില് എത്തിയപ്പോള് സൈന്യം പടെക്കു ആര്ത്തുവിളിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു പുറപ്പെടുകയായിരുന്നു.

20. And David rose up early in the morning and left the sheep with a keeper and took and went with his burden as Jesse had commanded him, and he came to the trench as the host was going forth in battle array, and they had already sounded the alarm for the battle.

21. യിസ്രായേലും ഫെലിസ്ത്യരും നേര്ക്കുംനേരെ അണിനിരന്നുനിന്നു.

21. For Israel and the Philistines had ordered the battle, army against army.

22. ദാവീദ് തന്റെ സാമാനം പടക്കോപ്പു സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നവന്റെ പക്കല് ഏല്പിച്ചുംവെച്ചു അണിയില് ഔടിച്ചെന്നു തന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരോടു കുശലം ചോദിച്ചു.

22. And David left his carriage in the hand of the keeper of the carriage and ran into the army and came and asked about his brethren, if they were well.

23. അവന് അവരോടു സംസാരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു നിലക്കുമ്പോള് ഗഥ്യനായ ഗൊല്യാത്ത് എന്ന ഫെലിസ്ത്യമല്ലന് ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ നിരകളില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു വന്നു മുമ്പിലത്തെ വാക്കുകള്തന്നേ പറയുന്നതു ദാവീദ് കേട്ടു.

23. And as he talked with them, behold, there came up that man, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the armies of the Philistines, speaking the same words, and David heard [them].

24. അവനെ കണ്ടപ്പോള് യിസ്രായേല്യരൊക്കെയും ഏറ്റവും ഭയപ്പെട്ടു അവന്റെ മുമ്പില്നിന്നു ഔടി.

24. And all the men of Israel when they saw the man fled from him and feared greatly.

25. എന്നാറെ യിസ്രായേല്യര്വന്നു നിലക്കുന്ന ഇവനെ കണ്ടുവോ? അവന് യിസ്രായേലിനെ നിന്ദിപ്പാന് വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു; അവനെ കൊല്ലുന്നവനെ രാജാവു മഹാസമ്പന്നനാക്കുകയും തന്റെ മകളെ അവന്നു കൊടുക്കുകയും അവന്റെ പിതൃഭവനത്തിന്നു യിസ്രായേലില് കരമൊഴിവു കല്പിച്ചുകൊടുക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

25. And each one of the men of Israel were saying, Have ye seen this man that is come up? He is come up to dishonour Israel. It shall be [that] the king will enrich the man who overcomes him with great riches and will give him his daughter and make his father's house free in Israel.

26. അപ്പോള് ദാവീദ് തന്റെ അടുക്കല് നിലക്കുന്നവരോടുഈ ഫെലിസ്ത്യനെകൊന്നു യിസ്രായേലില്നിന്നു നിന്ദയെ നീക്കിക്കളയുന്നവന്നു എന്തു കൊടുക്കും? ജീവനുള്ള ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സേനകളെ നിന്ദിപ്പാന് ഈ അഗ്രചര്മ്മിയായ ഫെലിസ്ത്യന് ആര് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

26. Then David spoke to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that overcomes this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who [is] this uncircumcised Philistine that he should dishonour the armies of the living God?

27. അതിന്നു ജനംഅവനെ കൊല്ലുവന്നു ഇന്നിന്നതൊക്കെയും കൊടുക്കും എന്നു അവനോടു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

27. And the people answered him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that overcomes him.

28. അവരോടു അവന് സംസാരിക്കുന്നതു അവന്റെ മൂത്ത ജ്യേഷ്ഠന് എലീയാബ് കേട്ടു ദാവീദിനോടു കോപിച്ചുനീ ഇവിടെ എന്തിന്നു വന്നു? മരുഭൂമിയില് ആ കുറെ ആടുള്ളതു നീ ആരുടെ പക്കല് വിട്ടേച്ചുപോന്നു? നിന്റെ അഹങ്കാരവും നിഗളഭാവവും എനിക്കറിയാം; പട കാണ്മാനല്ലേ നീ വന്നതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

28. And Eliab, his eldest brother, heard when he spoke unto the men, and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why didst thou come down here? And with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride and the malice of thy heart, for thou art come down that thou might see the battle.

29. അതിന്നു ദാവീദ്ഞാന് ഇപ്പോള് എന്തു ചെയ്തു? ഒരു വാക്കല്ലേ പറഞ്ഞുള്ളു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

29. And David said, What have I now done? [Is there] not a cause?

30. അവന് അവനെ വിട്ടുമാറി മറ്റൊരുത്തനോടു അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ ചോദിച്ചു; ജനം മുമ്പിലത്തേപ്പോലെ തന്നേ ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

30. And he turned from him toward another and spoke after the same manner, and the people answered him again after the former manner.

31. ദാവീദ് പറഞ്ഞ വാക്കുകള് പരസ്യമായപ്പോള് ശൌലിന്നും അറിവു കിട്ടി; അവന് അവനെ വിളിച്ചുവരുത്തി.

31. And the words which David had spoken were heard, and they were rehearsed before Saul, and he sent for him.

32. ദാവീദ് ശൌലിനോടുഇവന്റെ നിമിത്തം ആരും അധൈര്യപ്പെടേണ്ടാ; അടിയന് ചെന്നു ഈ ഫെലിസ്ത്യനോടു അങ്കം പൊരുതും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

32. And David said to Saul, Let no man's heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.

33. ശൌല് ദാവീദിനോടുഈ ഫെലിസ്ത്യനോടു ചെന്നു അങ്കം പൊരുതുവാന് നിനക്കു പ്രാപ്തിയില്ല; നീ ബാലന് അത്രേ; അവനോ, ബാല്യംമുതല് യോദ്ധാവാകുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

33. And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him, for thou [art but] a young man, and he a man of war from his youth.

34. ദാവീദ് ശൌലിനോടു പറഞ്ഞതുഅടിയന് അപ്പന്റെ ആടുകളെ മേയിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള് ഒരിക്കല് ഒരു സിംഹവും ഒരിക്കല് ഒരു കരടിയും വന്നു കൂട്ടത്തില് നിന്നു ആട്ടിന് കുട്ടിയെ പിടിച്ചു.

34. And David replied unto Saul, Thy servant was the pastor of his father's sheep, and [if] a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock,

35. ഞാന് പിന്തുടര്ന്നു അതിനെ അടിച്ചു അതിന്റെ വായില്നിന്നു ആട്ടിന് കുട്ടിയെ വിടുവിച്ചു, അതു എന്റെ നേരെ വന്നപ്പോള് ഞാന് അതിനെ താടിക്കു പിടിച്ചു അടിച്ചു കൊന്നു.

35. I went out after him and smote him and delivered [it] out of his mouth; and if he arose against me, I caught [him] by his beard and smote him and slew him.

36. ഇങ്ങനെ അടിയന് സിംഹത്തെയും കരടിയെയും കൊന്നു; ഈ അഗ്രചര്മ്മിയായ ഫെലിസ്ത്യന് ജീവനുള്ള ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സൈന്യത്തെ നിന്ദിച്ചിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു അവനും അവയില് ഒന്നിനെപ്പോലെ ആകും.

36. Whether it was a lion or a bear thy servant would kill it, and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he has dishonoured the armies of the living God.

37. ദാവീദ് പിന്നെയുംസിംഹത്തിന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നും കരടിയുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നും എന്നെ രക്ഷിച്ച യഹോവ ഈ ഫെലിസ്ത്യന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നും എന്നെ രക്ഷിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ശൌല് ദാവീദിനോടുചെല്ലുക; യഹോവ നിന്നോടുകൂടെ ഇരിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

37. David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.

38. ശൌല് തന്റെ പടയങ്കി ദാവീദിനെ ധരിപ്പിച്ചു അവന്റെ തലയില് താമ്രശിരസ്ത്രംവെച്ചു; തന്റെ കവചവും അവനെ ഇടുവിച്ചു.

38. And Saul clothed David with his clothing, and he put a helmet of brass upon his head; he also armed him with a coat of mail.

39. പടയങ്കിമേല് അവന്റെ വാളും കെട്ടി ദാവീദ് നടപ്പാന് നോക്കി; എന്നാല് അവന്നു ശീലമില്ലായിരുന്നു; ദാവീദ് ശൌലിനോടുഞാന് ശീലിച്ചിട്ടില്ലായ്കയാല് ഇവ ധരിച്ചുംകൊണ്ടു നടപ്പാന് എനിക്കു കഴികയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു, അവയെ ഊരിവെച്ചു.

39. And David girded [Saul's] sword upon [Saul's] clothing, and he undertook to go, for he had not proved [them]. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these, for I have not proved [them]. And putting them off, David

40. പിന്നെ അവന് തന്റെ വടി എടുത്തു, തോട്ടില്നിന്നു മിനുസമുള്ള അഞ്ചു കല്ലും തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു ഇടയസ്സഞ്ചിയായ പൊക്കണത്തില് ഇട്ടു, കയ്യില് കവിണയുമായി ഫെലിസ്ത്യനോടു അടുത്തു.

40. took his staff in his hand and chose five smooth stones out of the brook and put them in a shepherd's bag which he had, even in a provision bag, and with his sling in his hand he drew near to the Philistine.

41. ഫെലിസ്ത്യനും ദാവീദിനോടു അടുത്തു; പരിചക്കാരനും അവന്റെ മുമ്പെ നടന്നു.

41. And the Philistine came on and drew near unto David, and the man that bore the shield [went] before him.

42. ഫെലിസ്ത്യന് നോക്കി ദാവീദിനെ കണ്ടപ്പോള് അവനെ നിന്ദിച്ചു; അവന് തീരെ ബാലനും പവിഴനിറമുള്ളവനും കോമളരൂപനും ആയിരുന്നു.

42. And when the Philistine looked about and saw David, he disdained him, for he was [but] a youth and ruddy and of a fair countenance.

43. ഫെലിസ്ത്യന് ദാവീദിനോടുനീ വടികളുമായി എന്റെ നേരെ വരുവാന് ഞാന് നായോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു, തന്റെ ദേവന്മാരുടെ നാമം ചൊല്ലി ദാവീദിനെ ശപിച്ചു.

43. And the Philistine said unto David, [Am] I a dog that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.

44. ഫെലിസ്ത്യന് പിന്നെയും ദാവീദിനോടുഇങ്ങോട്ടു വാ; ഞാന് നിന്റെ മാംസം ആകാശത്തിലെ പക്ഷികള്ക്കും കാട്ടിലെ മൃഗങ്ങള്ക്കും ഇരയാക്കുന്നുണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

44. And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the heaven and to the beasts of the field.

45. ദാവീദ് ഫെലിസ്ത്യനോടു പറഞ്ഞതുനീ വാളും കുന്തവും വേലുമായി എന്റെ നേരെ വരുന്നു; ഞാനോ നീ നിന്ദിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള യിസ്രായേല്നിരകളുടെ ദൈവമായ സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവയുടെ നാമത്തില് നിന്റെ നേരെ വരുന്നു.

45. Then David said to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword and with a spear and with a shield, but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of the hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast dishonoured.

46. യഹോവ ഇന്നു നിന്നെ എന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കും; ഞാന് നിന്നെ കൊന്നു നിന്റെ തല ഛേദിച്ചുകളയും; അത്രയുമല്ല ഞാന് ഇന്നു ഫെലിസ്ത്യ സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ ശവങ്ങളെ ആകാശത്തിലെ പക്ഷികള്ക്കും ഭൂമിയിലെ മൃഗങ്ങള്ക്കും ഇരയാക്കും; യിസ്രായേലില് ഒരു ദൈവം ഉണ്ടെന്നു സര്വ്വഭൂമിയും അറിയും.

46. This day the LORD will deliver thee into my hand, and I will smite thee and take thy head from thee, and I will give the carcasses of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the heaven and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.

47. യഹോവ വാള്കൊണ്ടും കുന്തംകൊണ്ടുമല്ല രക്ഷിക്കുന്നതു എന്നു ഈ സംഘമെല്ലാം അറിവാന് ഇടവരും; യുദ്ധം യഹോവേക്കുള്ളതു; അവന് നിങ്ങളെ ഞങ്ങളുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചുതരും.

47. And all this congregation shall know that the LORD does not save with sword and spear, for the battle [is] the LORD'S, and he will give you into our hands.

48. പിന്നെ ഫെലിസ്ത്യന് ദാവീദിനോടു എതിര്പ്പാന് നേരിട്ടടുത്തപ്പോള് ദാവീദ് ബദ്ധപ്പെട്ടു ഫെലിസ്ത്യനോടു എതിര്പ്പാന് അണിക്കു നേരെ ഔടി.

48. And it came to pass when the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David that David hastened and ran to do battle against the Philistine.

49. ദാവീദ് സഞ്ചിയില് കയ്യിട്ടു ഒരു കല്ലു എടുത്തു കവിണയില്വെച്ചു വീശി ഫെലിസ്ത്യന്റെ നെറ്റിക്കു എറിഞ്ഞു. കല്ലു അവന്റെ നെറ്റിയില് കൊണ്ടു പതിഞ്ഞു;

49. And David put his hand in his bag and took a stone from there and slang [it] and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone remained sunk into his forehead, and he fell upon his face to the earth.

50. അവന് കവിണ്ണുവീണു. ഇങ്ങനെ ദാവീദ് ഒരു കവിണയും ഒരു കല്ലുംകൊണ്ടു ഫെലിസ്ത്യനെ ജയിച്ചു, ഫെലിസ്ത്യനെ കൊന്നു മുടിച്ചു; എന്നാല് ദാവീദിന്റെ കയ്യില് വാള് ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു.

50. So David overcame the Philistine with a sling and with a stone and smote the Philistine and slew him, but [there was] no sword in the hand of David.

51. ആകയാല് ദാവീദ് ഔടിച്ചെന്നു ഫെലിസ്ത്യന്റെ പുറത്തു കയറിനിന്നു അവന്റെ വാള് ഉറയില്നിന്നു ഊരിയെടുത്തു അവനെ കൊന്നു, അവന്റെ തല വെട്ടിക്കളഞ്ഞു. തങ്ങളുടെ മല്ലന് മരിച്ചുപോയി എന്നു ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് കണ്ടിട്ടു ഔടിപ്പോയി.

51. Therefore David ran and stood upon the Philistine and took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and slew him and cut off his head with it. And when the Philistines saw their giant was dead, they fled.

52. യിസ്രായേല്യരും യെഹൂദ്യരും പുറപ്പെട്ടു ആര്ത്തുംകൊണ്ടു ഗത്തും എക്രോന് വാതിലുകളുംവരെ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരെ പിന്തുടര്ന്നു; ഫെലിസ്ത്യഹതന്മാര് ശയരയീമിന്നുള്ള വഴിയില് ഗത്തും എക്രോനുംവരെ വീണുകിടന്നു.

52. And the men of Israel and of Judah arose and shouted and pursued the Philistines unto the valley and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto Gath and unto Ekron.

53. ഇങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് ഫെലിസ്ത്യരെ ഔടിക്കയും മടങ്ങിവന്നു അവരുടെ പാളയം കൊള്ളയിടുകയും ചെയ്തു.

53. And the sons of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they spoiled their tents.

54. എന്നാല് ദാവീദ് ഫെലിസ്ത്യന്റെ തല എടുത്തു അതിനെ യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു; അവന്റെ ആയുധവര്ഗ്ഗമോ തന്റെ കൂടാരത്തില് സൂക്ഷിച്ചുവെച്ചു.

54. And David took the head of the Philistine and brought it to Jerusalem, but he put his weapons in his tent.

55. ദാവീദ് ഫെലിസ്ത്യന്റെ നേരെ ചെല്ലുന്നതു ശൌല് കണ്ടപ്പോള് സേനാധിപതിയായ അബ്നേരിനോടുഅബ്നേരേ, ഈ ബാല്യക്കാരന് ആരുടെ മകന് എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു അബ്നേര്രാജാവേ, തിരുമേനിയാണ ഞാന് അറിയുന്നില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

55. And when Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said unto Abner, the captain of the host, Abner, whose son [is] this youth? And Abner said, [As] thy soul lives, O king, I cannot tell.

56. ഈ ബാല്യക്കാരന് ആരുടെ മകന് എന്നു നീ അന്വേഷിക്കേണം എന്നു രാജാവു കല്പിച്ചു.

56. And the king said, Enquire whose son the young man is.

57. ദാവീദ് ഫെലിസ്ത്യനെ സംഹരിച്ചു മടങ്ങിവരുമ്പോള് അബ്നേര് അവനെ കൂട്ടി ശൌലിന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു; ഫെലിസ്ത്യന്റെ തലയും അവന്റെ കയ്യില് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

57. And as David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.

58. ശൌല് അവനോടുബാല്യക്കാരാ, നീ ആരുടെ മകന് എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു; ഞാന് ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമ്യനായ നിന്റെ ദാസന് യിശ്ശായിയുടെ മകന് എന്നു ദാവീദ് പറഞ്ഞു.

58. And Saul said to him, Whose son [art] thou, young man? And David answered, I [am] the son of thy servant Jesse of Bethlehem.:
