1. കിര്യ്യത്ത്-യെയാരീംനിവാസികള് വന്നു യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകം എടുത്തു കുന്നിന്മേല് അബീനാദാബിന്റെ വീട്ടില് കൊണ്ടുപോയി; അവന്റെ മകനായ എലെയാസാരിനെ യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകം സൂക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ശുദ്ധീകരിച്ചു.

1. And the men of Kirjath-jearim came and brought up the ark of Jehovah, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill. And they sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of Jehovah.

2. പെട്ടകം കിര്യ്യത്ത്-യെയാരീമില് ആയിട്ടു ഏറിയകാലം, ഇരുപതു സംവത്സരം തന്നേ, കഴിഞ്ഞു; യിസ്രായേല്ഗൃഹമൊക്കെയും യഹോവയോടു വിലപിച്ചു.

2. And it happened from the day the ark began to dwell in Kirjath-jearim, the days became many; yea, they were twenty years. And all the house of Israel yearned after Jehovah.

3. അപ്പോള് ശമൂവേല് എല്ലായിസ്രായേല്ഗൃഹത്തോടുംനിങ്ങള് പൂര്ണ്ണഹൃദയത്തോടെ യഹോവയിങ്കലേക്കു തിരിയുന്നു എങ്കില് അന്യ ദൈവങ്ങളെയും അസ്തോരെത്ത് പ്രതിഷ്ഠകളെയും നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില്നിന്നു നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു നിങ്ങളുടെ ഹൃദയങ്ങളെ യഹോവയിങ്കലേക്കു തിരിക്കയും അവനെ മാത്രം സേവിക്കയും ചെയ്വിന് ; എന്നാല് അവന് നിങ്ങളെ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു വിടുവിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

3. And Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel saying, If you return to Jehovah with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts to Jehovah, and serve Him only. And He will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.

4. അങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് ബാല്വിഗ്രഹങ്ങളെയും അസ്തോരെത്ത് പ്രതിഷ്ഠകളെയും നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു യഹോവയെ മാത്രം സേവിച്ചു.

4. And the sons of Israel put away the Baals and the Ashtaroth, and served Jehovah only.

5. അനന്തരം ശമൂവേല്എല്ലായിസ്രായേലിനെയും മിസ്പയില് കൂട്ടുവിന് ; ഞാന് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു വേണ്ടി യഹോവയോടു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

5. And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpeh, and I will pray for you to Jehovah.

6. അവര് മിസ്പയില് ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂടി; വെള്ളം കോരി യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് ഒഴിച്ചു ആ ദിവസം ഉപവസിച്ചുഞങ്ങള് യഹോവയോടു പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അവിടെവെച്ചു പറഞ്ഞു. പിന്നെ ശമൂവേല് മിസ്പയില്വെച്ചു യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള്ക്കു ന്യായപാലനം ചെയ്തു.

6. And they were gathered to Mizpeh, and drew water, and poured out before Jehovah, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against Jehovah. And Samuel judged the sons of Israel in Mizpeh.

7. യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് മിസ്പയില് ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂടി എന്നു ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് കേട്ടപ്പോള് ഫെലിസ്ത്യപ്രഭുക്കന്മാര് യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ നേരെ പുറപ്പെട്ടുവന്നു; യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് അതു കേട്ടിട്ടു ഫെലിസ്ത്യരെ ഭയപ്പെട്ടു.

7. And the Philistines heard that the sons of Israel had come together to Mizpeh. And the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And the sons of Israel heard, and they were afraid of the Philistines.

8. യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് ശമൂവേലിനോടുനമ്മുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ ഞങ്ങളെ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു രക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു വേണ്ടി അവനോടു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിക്കുന്നതു മതിയാക്കരുതേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

8. And the sons of Israel said to Samuel, Do not cease from crying to Jehovah our God for us, so that He will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.

9. അപ്പോള് ശമൂവേല് പാല് കുടിക്കുന്ന ഒരു ആട്ടിന് കുട്ടിയെ എടുത്തു യഹോവേക്കു സര്വ്വാംഗഹോമം കഴിച്ചു. ശമൂവേല് യിസ്രായേലിന്നു വേണ്ടി യഹോവയോടു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിച്ചു; യഹോവ ഉത്തരമരുളി.

9. And Samuel took a suckling lamb, and offered a whole burnt offering to Jehovah. And Samuel cried to Jehovah for Israel, and Jehovah answered him.

10. ശമൂവേല് ഹോമയാഗം കഴിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള് ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് യിസ്രായേലിനോടു പടെക്കു അടുത്തു; എന്നാല് യഹോവ അന്നു ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെമേല് വലിയ ഇടിമുഴക്കി അവരെ പരിഭ്രമിപ്പിച്ചു; അവര് യിസ്രായേലിനോടു തോറ്റു.

10. And it happened as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel. But Jehovah thundered with a great noise on that day on the Philistines, and troubled them. And they were beaten before Israel.

11. യിസ്രായേല്യര് മിസ്പയില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു ഫെലിസ്ത്യരെ പിന്തുടര്ന്നു; ബേത്ത്-കാരിന്റെ താഴെവരെ അവരെ സംഹരിച്ചു.

11. And the men of Israel went out of Mizpeh, and pursued the Philistines, and struck them as far as below Beth-car.

12. പിന്നെ ശമൂവേല് ഒരു കല്ലു എടുത്തു മിസ്പെക്കും ശേനിന്നും മദ്ധ്യേ നാട്ടിഇത്രത്തോളം യഹോവ നമ്മെ സഹായിച്ചു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അതിന്നു ഏബെന് -ഏസെര് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

12. And Samuel took a stone and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Jehovah has helped us until now.

13. ഇങ്ങനെ ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് ഒതുങ്ങി, പിന്നെ യിസ്രായേല്ദേശത്തേക്കു വന്നതുമില്ല; ശമൂവേലിന്റെ കാലത്തൊക്കെയും യഹോവയുടെ കൈ ഫെലിസ്ത്യര്ക്കും വിരോധമായിരുന്നു.

13. And the Philistines were beaten, and they did not come any more into the border of Israel. And the hand of Jehovah was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.

14. എക്രോന് മുതല് ഗത്ത്വരെ ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് യിസ്രായേലിനോടു പിടിച്ചിരുന്ന പട്ടണങ്ങള് യിസ്രായേലിന്നു തിരികെ കിട്ടി; അവയുടെ അതിര്നാടുകളും യിസ്രായേല് ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു വിടുവിച്ചു. യിസ്രായേലും അമോര്യ്യരും തമ്മില് സമാധാനമായിരുന്നു.

14. And the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were given back to Israel, from Ekron even to Gath. And Israel delivered its borders out of the hand of the Philistines. And there was peace between Israel and the Amorites.

15. ശമൂവേല് ജീവപര്യന്തം യിസ്രായേലിന്നു ന്യായപാലനം ചെയ്തു.

15. And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.

16. അവന് ആണ്ടുതോറും ബേഥേലിലും ഗില്ഗാലിലും മിസ്പയിലും ചുറ്റിസഞ്ചരിച്ചു, അവിടങ്ങളില്വെച്ചു യിസ്രായേലിന്നു ന്യായപാലനം ചെയ്തിട്ടു രാമയിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോരും;

16. And he went from year to year in a circuit to Bethel and Gilgal and Mizpeh, and judged Israel in all those places.

17. അവിടെയായിരുന്നു അവന്റെ വീടുഅവിടെവെച്ചും അവന് യിസ്രായേലിന്നു ന്യായപാലനം നടത്തിവന്നു; യഹോവേക്കു അവിടെ ഒരു യാഗപീഠവും പണിതിരുന്നു.

17. And his return was to Ramah, for his house was there. And he judged Israel there. And he built an altar there to Jehovah.
