1. ദാവീദ് മലമുകള് കടന്നു കുറെ അപ്പുറം ചെന്നപ്പോള് മെഫീബോശെത്തിന്റെ ഭൃത്യനായ സീബാ കോപ്പിട്ട രണ്ടുകഴുതയുമായി എതിരെ വരുന്നതു കണ്ടു; അവയുടെ പുറത്തു ഇരുനൂറു അപ്പവും നൂറു ഉണക്കമുന്തിരിക്കുലയും നൂറു അത്തിയടയും ഒരു തുരുത്തി വീഞ്ഞും കയറ്റിയിരുന്നു. രാജാവു സീബയോടുഇതു എന്തിന്നു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അതിന്നു സീബാകഴുതകള് രാജാവിന്റെ കുടുംബക്കാര്ക്കും കയറുവാനും അപ്പവും പഴവും ബാല്യക്കാര്ക്കും തിന്മാനും വീഞ്ഞു മരുഭൂമിയില് ക്ഷീണിച്ചവര്ക്കും കുടിപ്പാനും തന്നേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

1. When David was a little past the top [of the mountain,] there was Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth, who met him with a couple of saddled donkeys, and on them two hundred [loaves] of bread, one hundred clusters of raisins, one hundred summer fruits, and a skin of wine.

2. നിന്റെ യജമാനന്റെ മകന് എവിടെ എന്നു രാജാവു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു സീബാ രാജാവിനോടുഅവന് യെരൂശലേമില് പാര്ക്കുംന്നു; യിസ്രായേല്ഗൃഹം എന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ രാജത്വം ഇന്നു എനിക്കു തിരികെ തരുമെന്നു അവന് പറയുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

2. And the king said to Ziba, 'What do you mean to do with these?' So Ziba said, 'The donkeys [are] for the king's household to ride on, the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat, and the wine for those who are faint in the wilderness to drink.'

3. രാജാവു സീബയോടുഇതാ, മെഫീബോശെത്തിന്നുള്ളതൊക്കെയും നിനക്കുള്ളതാകുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അതിന്നു സീബായജമാനനായ രാജാവേ, ഞാന് നമസ്കരിക്കുന്നു; തിരുമുമ്പില് എനിക്കു ദയ ലഭിക്കുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

3. Then the king said, 'And where [is] your master's son?' And Ziba said to the king, 'Indeed he is staying in Jerusalem, for he said, 'Today the house of Israel will restore the kingdom of my father to me.' '

4. ദാവീദ് രാജാവു ബഹൂരീമില് എത്തിയപ്പോള് ശൌലിന്റെ കുലത്തില് ഗേരയുടെ മകന് ശീമെയി എന്നു പേരുള്ള ഒരുത്തന് അവിടെനിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു ശപിച്ചുംകൊണ്ടു വരുന്നതു കണ്ടു.

4. So the king said to Ziba, 'Here, all that [belongs] to Mephibosheth [is] yours.' And Ziba said, 'I humbly bow before you, [that] I may find favor in your sight, my lord, O king!'

5. അവന് ദാവീദിനെയും രാജഭൃത്യന്മാരെ ഒക്കെയും കല്ലുവാരി എറിഞ്ഞു; ജനവും വീരന്മാരുമെല്ലാം ഇടത്തും വലത്തുമായി നടക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.

5. Now when King David came to Bahurim, there was a man from the family of the house of Saul, whose name [was] Shimei the son of Gera, coming from there. He came out, cursing continuously as he came.

6. ശിമെയി ശപിച്ചുംകൊണ്ടു ഇവ്വണം പറഞ്ഞുരക്തപാതകാ, നീചാ, പോ, പോ.

6. And he threw stones at David and at all the servants of King David. And all the people and all the mighty men [were] on his right hand and on his left.

7. ശൌല് ഗൃഹത്തിന്റെ രക്തം യഹോവ നിന്റെമേല് വരുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു; അവന്നു പകരമല്ലോ നീ രാജാവയതു; യഹോവ രാജത്വം നിന്റെ മകനായ അബ്ശാലോമിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; നീ രക്തപാതകനായിരിക്കയാല് ഇപ്പോള് ഇതാ, നിന്റെ ദോഷത്തിന്റെ ഫലം നിനക്കു വന്നുഭവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

7. Also Shimei said thus when he cursed: 'Come out! Come out! You bloodthirsty man, you rogue!

8. അപ്പോള് സെരൂയയുടെ മകനായ അബീശായി രാജാവിനോടുഈ ചത്ത നായി എന്റെ യജമാനനായ രാജാവിനെ ശപിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു? ഞാന് ചെന്നു അവന്റെ തല വെട്ടിക്കളയട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

8. 'The LORD has brought upon you all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose place you have reigned; and the LORD has delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom your son. So now you [are caught] in your own evil, because you are a bloodthirsty man!'

9. അതിന്നു രാജാവുസെരൂയയുടെ പുത്രന്മാരേ, എനിക്കും നിങ്ങള്ക്കും തമ്മില് എന്തു? അവന് ശപിക്കട്ടെ; ദാവീദിനെ ശപിക്ക എന്നു യഹോവ അവനോടു കല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; പിന്നെ നീ ഇങ്ങനെ ചെയ്യുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു ആര് ചോദിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. Then Abishai the son of Zeruiah said to the king, 'Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Please, let me go over and take off his head!'

10. പിന്നെ ദാവീദ് അബീശായിയോടും തന്റെ സകല ഭൃത്യന്മാരോടും പറഞ്ഞതുഎന്റെ ഉദരത്തില് നിന്നു പറപ്പെട്ട മകന് എനിക്കു പ്രാണഹാനി വരുത്തുവാന് നോക്കുന്നു എങ്കില് ഈ ബെന്യാമീന്യന് ചെയ്യുന്നതു ആശ്ചര്യമോ? അവനെ വിടുവിന് ; അവന് ശപിക്കട്ടെ; യഹോവ അവനോടു കല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

10. But the king said, 'What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? So let him curse, because the LORD has said to him, 'Curse David.' Who then shall say, 'Why have you done so?' '

11. പക്ഷേ യഹോവ എന്റെ സങ്കടം നോക്കി ഇന്നത്തെ ഇവന്റെ ശാപത്തിന്നു പകരം എനിക്കു അനുഗ്രഹം നലകും.

11. And David said to Abishai and all his servants, 'See how my son who came from my own body seeks my life. How much more now [may this] Benjamite? Let him alone, and let him curse; for so the LORD has ordered him.

12. ഇങ്ങനെ ദാവീദും അവന്റെ ആളുകളും വഴിനടന്നു പോകുമ്പോള് ശിമെയിയും മലഞ്ചരിവില് കൂടി അടുത്തു നടന്നു; നടന്നുകൊണ്ടു ശപിക്കയും കല്ലും പൂഴിയും വാരി അവനെ എറികയും ചെയ്തു.

12. 'It may be that the LORD will look on my affliction, and that the LORD will repay me with good for his cursing this day.'

13. രാജാവും കൂടെയുള്ള സകല ജനവും ക്ഷീണിച്ചവരായി എത്തി അവിടെ ആശ്വസിച്ചു.

13. And as David and his men went along the road, Shimei went along the hillside opposite him and cursed as he went, threw stones at him and kicked up dust.

14. എന്നാല് അബ്ശാലോമും യിസ്രായേല്യരായ ജനമൊക്കെയും അഹീഥോഫെലുമായി യെരൂശലേമില് എത്തി.

14. Now the king and all the people who [were] with him became weary; so they refreshed themselves there.

15. ദാവീദിന്റെ സ്നേഹിതന് അര്ഖ്യനായ ഹൂശായി അബ്ശാലോമിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നിട്ടു അബ്ശാലോമിനോടുരാജാവേ, ജയ ജയ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

15. Meanwhile Absalom and all the people, the men of Israel, came to Jerusalem; and Ahithophel [was] with him.

16. അപ്പോള് അബ്ശാലോം ഹൂശായിയോടുഇതാകുന്നുവോ നിന്റെ സ്നേഹിതനോടു നിനക്കുള്ള സ്നേഹം? സ്നേഹിതനോടുകൂടെ പോകാതിരുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

16. And so it was, when Hushai the Archite, David's friend, came to Absalom, that Hushai said to Absalom, '[Long] live the king! [Long] live the king!'

17. അതിന്നു ഹൂശായി അബ്ശാലോമിനോടുഅങ്ങനെയല്ല, യഹോവയും ഈ ജനവും യിസ്രായേല്യരൊക്കെയും ആരെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കുന്നുവോ അവന്നുള്ളവന് ആകന്നു ഞാന് ; അവന്റെ പക്ഷത്തില് ഞാന് ഇരിക്കും.

17. So Absalom said to Hushai, '[Is] this your loyalty to your friend? Why did you not go with your friend?'

18. ഞാന് ആരെ ആകുന്നു സേവിക്കേണ്ടതു? അവന്റെ മകനെ അല്ലയോ? ഞാന് നിന്റെ അപ്പനെ സേവിച്ചതുപോലെ നിന്നെയും സേവിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

18. And Hushai said to Absalom, 'No, but whom the LORD and this people and all the men of Israel choose, his I will be, and with him I will remain.

19. അനന്തരം അബ്ശാലോം അഹിഥോഫെലിനോടുനാം ചെയ്യേണ്ടതു എന്തു എന്നു നിങ്ങള് ആലോചിച്ചു പറവിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

19. 'Furthermore, whom should I serve? [Should I] not [serve] in the presence of his son? As I have served in your father's presence, so will I be in your presence.'

20. അഹീഥോഫെല് അബ്ശാലോമിനോടുരാജധാനി സൂക്ഷിപ്പാന് നിന്റെ അപ്പന് പാര്പ്പിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള അവന്റെ വെപ്പാട്ടികളുടെ അടുക്കല് നീ ചെല്ലുക; എന്നാല് നീ നിന്റെ അപ്പന്നു നിന്നെത്തന്നെ വെറുപ്പാക്കി എന്നു എല്ലായിസ്രായേലും കേള്ക്കും; നിന്നോടുകൂടെയുള്ളവര് ഒക്കെയും ധൈര്യപ്പെടും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

20. Then Absalom said to Ahithophel, 'Give counsel as to what we should do.'

21. അങ്ങനെ അവര് അബ്ശാലോമിന്നു വെണ്മാടിത്തിന്മേല് ഒരു കൂടാരം അടിച്ചു; അവിടെ അബ്ശാലോം എല്ലായിസ്രായേലും കാണ്കെ തന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ വെപ്പാട്ടികളുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു.

21. And Ahithophel said to Absalom, 'Go in to your father's concubines, whom he has left to keep the house; and all Israel will hear that you are abhorred by your father. Then the hands of all who are with you will be strong.'

22. അക്കാലത്തു അഹീഥോഫെല് പറയുന്ന ആലോചന ദൈവത്തിന്റെ അരുളപ്പാടുപോലെ ആയിരുന്നു; ദാവീദിന്നും അബ്ശാലോമിന്നും അഹീഥോഫെലിന്റെ ആലോചനയെല്ലാം അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ ആയിരുന്നു.

22. So they pitched a tent for Absalom on the top of the house, and Absalom went in to his father's concubines in the sight of all Israel.
