1. യെഹോശാഫാത്തിന്നു ധനവും മാനവും വളരെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന് ആഹാബിനോടു സംബന്ധം കൂടി.

1. But even though Jehoshaphat was very rich and much honored, he made a marriage alliance with Ahab of Israel.

2. ചില സംവത്സരം കഴിഞ്ഞശേഷം അവന് ശമര്യ്യയില് ആഹാബിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു; ആഹാബ് അവന്നും കൂടെയുണ്ടായിരുന്ന ജനത്തിന്നും വേണ്ടി വളരെ ആടുകളെയും കാളകളെയും അറുത്തു; ഗിലെയാദിലെ രാമോത്തിലേക്കു തന്നോടുകൂടെ ചെല്ലേണ്ടതിന്നു അവനെ വശീകരിച്ചു.

2. Some time later he paid a visit to Ahab at Samaria. Ahab celebrated his visit with a feast--a huge barbecue with all the lamb and beef you could eat. But Ahab had a hidden agenda; he wanted Jehoshaphat's support in attacking Ramoth Gilead.

3. യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവായ ആഹാബ് യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോശാഫാത്തിനോടുനീ എന്നോടുകൂടെ ഗിലെയാദിലെ രാമോത്തിലേക്കു പോരുമോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അവന് അവനോടുഞാനും നീയും എന്റെ ജനവും നിന്റെ ജനവും ഒരുപോലെയല്ലോ; ഞങ്ങള് നിന്നോടുകൂടെ യുദ്ധത്തിന്നു പോരാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

3. Then Ahab brought it into the open: 'Will you join me in attacking Ramoth Gilead?' Jehoshaphat said, 'You bet. I'm with you all the way; you can count on me and my troops.'

4. യെഹോശാഫാത്ത് യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവിനോടുഇന്നു യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു ചോദിച്ചാലും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

4. Then Jehoshaphat said, 'But before you do anything, ask GOD for guidance.'

5. യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവു നാനൂറു പ്രവാചകന്മാരെ വരുത്തി അവരോടുഞങ്ങള് ഗിലെയാദിലെ രാമോത്തിലേക്കു യുദ്ധത്തിന്നു പോകയോ പോകാതിരിക്കയോ എന്തു വേണ്ടു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അതിന്നു അവര്പുറപ്പെടുക; ദൈവം അതു രാജാവിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

5. The king of Israel got the prophets together--all 400 of them-- and put the question to them: 'Should I attack Ramoth Gilead or should I hold back?' 'Go for it,' they said. 'God will hand it over to the king.'

6. എന്നാല് യെഹോശാഫാത്ത്നാം അരുളപ്പാടു ചോദിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഇവിടെ യഹോവയുടെ പ്രവാചകനായിട്ടു ഇനി ആരും ഇല്ലയോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

6. But Jehoshaphat dragged his feet, 'Is there another prophet of GOD around here we can consult? Let's get a second opinion.'

7. അതിന്നു യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവു യെഹോശാഫാത്തിനോടുനാം യഹോവയോടു അരുളപ്പാടു ചോദിപ്പാന് തക്കവണ്ണം ഇനി ഒരുത്തനുണ്ടു; എന്നാല് അവന് എന്നെക്കുറിച്ചു ഒരിക്കലും ഗുണമല്ല എല്ലായ്പോഴുംദോഷം തന്നേ പ്രവചിക്കുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു എനിക്കു അവനെ ഇഷ്ടമില്ല; അവന് യിമ്ളയുടെ മകനായ മീഖായാവു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. രാജാവു അങ്ങനെ പറയരുതേ എന്നു യെഹോശാഫാത്ത് പറഞ്ഞു.

7. The king of Israel told Jehoshaphat, 'As a matter of fact, there is another. But I hate him. He never preaches anything good to me, only doom, doom, doom--Micaiah son of Imlah.' 'The king shouldn't talk about a prophet like that!' said Jehoshaphat.

8. അങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവു ഒരു ഷണ്ഡനെ വിളിച്ചുയിമ്ളയുടെ മകനായ മീഖായാവെ വേഗം കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുവരിക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

8. So the king of Israel ordered one of his men, 'Quickly, get Micaiah son of Imlah.'

9. യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവും യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോശാഫാത്തും രാജവസ്ത്രം ധരിച്ചു ശമര്യ്യയുടെ പടിവാതില് പ്രവേശനത്തിങ്കല് ഒരു വിശാലസ്ഥലത്തു താന്താന്റെ സിംഹാസനത്തില് ഇരുന്നു; പ്രവാചകന്മാര് ഒക്കെയും അവരുടെ സന്നിധിയില് പ്രവചിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

9. Meanwhile, the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat were seated on their thrones, dressed in their royal robes, resplendent in front of the Samaria city gates. All the prophets were staging a prophecy-performance for their benefit.

10. കെനയനയുടെ മകനായ സിദെക്കീയാവു തനിക്കു ഇരിമ്പുകൊണ്ടു കൊമ്പുണ്ടാക്കിനീ ഇവകൊണ്ടു അരാമ്യരെ അവര് ഒടുങ്ങുംവരെ കുത്തിക്കളയും എന്നിപ്രകാരം യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. Zedekiah son of Kenaanah had even made a set of iron horns, and brandishing them, called out, 'GOD's word! With these horns you'll gore Aram until there's nothing left of them!'

11. പ്രവാചകന്മാര് ഒക്കെയും അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ പ്രവചിച്ചുഗിലെയാദിലെ രാമോത്തിലേക്കു പുറപ്പെടുക; നീ കൃതാര്ത്ഥനാകും; യഹോവ അതു രാജാവിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

11. All the prophets chimed in, 'Yes! Go for Ramoth Gilead! An easy victory! GOD's gift to the king!'

12. മീഖായാവെ വിളിപ്പാന് പോയ ദൂതന് അവനോടുനോകൂ, പ്രവാചകന്മാരുടെ വാക്കുകള് ഒരുപോലെ രാജാവിന്നു ഗുണമായിരിക്കുന്നു; നിന്റെ വാക്കും അവരില് ഒരുത്തന്റേതുപോലെ ഇരിക്കട്ടെ; നീയും ഗുണമായി പറയേണമേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

12. The messenger who went to get Micaiah told him, 'The prophets have all said Yes to the king. Make it unanimous--vote Yes!'

13. അതിന്നു മീഖായാവുയഹോവയാണ, എന്റെ ദൈവം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നതു തന്നേ ഞാന് പ്രസ്താവിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

13. But Micaiah said, 'As sure as GOD lives, what God says, I'll say.'

14. With Micaiah before him, the king asked him, 'So, Micaiah--do we attack Ramoth Gilead? Or do we hold back?' 'Go ahead,' he said, 'an easy victory! God's gift to the king.'

15. രാജാവു അവനോടുനീ യഹോവയുടെ നാമത്തില് സത്യമല്ലാതെ യാതൊന്നും എന്നോടു പറയരുതെന്നു എത്ര പ്രാവശ്യം ഞാന് നിന്നോടു സത്യംചെയ്തു പറയേണം എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

15. 'Not so fast,' said the king. 'How many times have I made you promise under oath to tell me the truth and nothing but the truth?'

16. അതിന്നു അവന് ഇടയനില്ലാത്ത ആടുകളെപ്പോലെ യിസ്രായേലൊക്കെയും പര്വ്വതങ്ങളില് ചിതറിയിരിക്കുന്നതു ഞാന് കണ്ടു; അപ്പോള് യഹോവഇവര്ക്കും നാഥനില്ല; ഇവന് ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ വീട്ടിലേക്കു സമാധാനത്തോടെ മടങ്ങിപ്പോകട്ടെ എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

16. 'All right,' said Micaiah, 'since you insist . . . I saw all of Israel scattered over the hills, sheep with no shepherd. Then GOD spoke, 'These poor people have no one to tell them what to do. Let them go home and do the best they can for themselves.''

17. അപ്പോള് യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവു യെഹോശാഫാത്തിനോടുഇവന് എന്നെക്കുറിച്ചു ദോഷമല്ലാതെ ഗുണം പ്രവചിക്കയില്ല എന്നു ഞാന് നിന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞില്ലയോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

17. The king of Israel turned to Jehoshaphat, 'See! What did I tell you? He never has a good word for me from GOD, only doom.'

18. അതിന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞതുഎന്നാല് യഹോവയുടെ വചനം കേട്ടുകൊള്വിന് ! യഹോവ തന്റെ സിംഹാസനത്തില് ഇരിക്കുന്നതും സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തിലെ സൈന്യമെല്ലാം അവന്റെ വലത്തും ഇടത്തും നിലക്കുന്നതും ഞാന് കണ്ടു.

18. Micaiah kept on, 'I'm not done yet; listen to GOD's word: I saw GOD enthroned, and all the Angel Armies of heaven standing at attention, ranged on his right and his left.

19. യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവായ ആഹാബ് ചെന്നു ഗിലെയാദിലെ രാമോത്തില് പട്ടുപോകേണ്ടതിന്നു അവനെ ആര് വശീകരിക്കും എന്നു യഹോവ ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു ഒരുത്തന് ഇങ്ങനെയും ഒരുത്തന് അങ്ങനെയും പറഞ്ഞു.

19. And GOD said, 'How can we seduce Ahab into attacking Ramoth Gilead?' Some said this, and some said that.

20. എന്നാറെ ഒരു ആത്മാവു മുമ്പോട്ടു വന്നു യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് നിന്നുഞാന് അവനെ വശീകരിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. യഹോവ അവനോടുഏതിനാല് എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

20. Then a bold angel stepped out, stood before GOD, and said, 'I'll seduce him.' 'And how will you do it?' said GOD.

21. അതിന്നു അവന് ഞാന് ചെന്നു അവന്റെ സകല പ്രവാചകന്മാരുടെയും വായില് ഭോഷ്കിന്റെ ആത്മാവായിരിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. നീ അവനെ വശീകരിക്കും; നിനക്കു സാധിക്കും; നീ ചെന്നു അങ്ങനെ ചെയ്ക എന്നു അവന് കല്പിച്ചു.

21. 'Easy,' said the angel, 'I'll get all the prophets to lie.' 'That should do it,' said GOD; 'On your way--seduce him!'

22. ആകയല് ഇതാ, യഹോവ ഭോഷ്കിന്റെ ആത്മാവിനെ നിന്റെ ഈ പ്രവാചകന്മാരുടെ വായില് കൊടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു; യഹോവ നിന്നെക്കുറിച്ചു അനര്ത്ഥം കല്പിച്ചുമിരിക്കുന്നു.

22. 'And that's what has happened. GOD filled the mouths of your puppet prophets with seductive lies. GOD has pronounced your doom.'

23. അപ്പോള് കെനയനയുടെ മകനായ സിദെക്കീയാവു അടുത്തുചെന്നു മീഖായാവെ ചെകിട്ടത്തു അടിച്ചുനിന്നോടു സംസാരിപ്പാന് യഹോവയുടെ ആത്മാവു എന്നെ വിട്ടു ഏതു വഴിയായി കടന്നുവന്നു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

23. Just then Zedekiah son of Kenaanah came up and slapped Micaiah in the face, saying, 'Since when did the Spirit of GOD leave me and take up with you?'

24. അതിന്നു മീഖായാവുനീ ഒളിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അറ തേടിനടക്കുന്ന ദിവസത്തില് നീ കാണും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

24. Micaiah said, 'You'll know soon enough; you'll know it when you're frantically and futilely looking for a place to hide.'

25. അപ്പോള് യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവു പറഞ്ഞതുനിങ്ങള് മീഖായാവെ പിടിച്ചു നഗരാധിപതിയായ ആമോന്റെയും രാജകുമാരനായ യോവാശിന്റെയും അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു

25. The king of Israel had heard enough: 'Get Micaiah out of here! Turn him over to Amon the city magistrate and to Joash the king's son

26. ഇവനെ കാരാഗൃഹത്തില് ആക്കി, ഞാന് സമാധാനത്തോടെ മടങ്ങിവരുവോളം ഞെരുക്കത്തിന്റെ അപ്പവും ഞെരുക്കത്തിന്റെ വെള്ളവുംകൊണ്ടു പോക്ഷിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു രാജാവു കല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറവിന് .

26. with this message: 'King's orders! Lock him up in jail; keep him on bread and water until I'm back in one piece.''

27. അതിന്നു മീഖായാവുനീ സമാധാനത്തോടെ മടങ്ങിവരുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കില് യഹോവ ഞാന് മുഖാന്തരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്തിട്ടില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. സകലജാതികളുമായുള്ളോരേ, കേട്ടുകൊള്വിന് എന്നും അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

27. Micaiah said, If you ever get back in one piece, I'm no prophet of GOD. He added, When it happens, O people, remember where you heard it!

28. അങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവും യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോശാഫാത്തും ഗിലെയാദിലെ രാമോത്തിലേക്കു പോയി.

28. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah went ahead and attacked Ramoth Gilead.

29. എന്നാല് യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവു യെഹോശാഫാത്തിനോടുഞാന് വേഷംമാറി പടയില് കടക്കും; നീയോ രാജവസ്ത്രം ധരിച്ചുകൊള്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവു വേഷംമാറി, അവര് പടയില് കടന്നു.

29. The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'Wear my kingly robe; I'm going into battle disguised.' So the king of Israel entered the battle in disguise.

30. എന്നാല് അരാംരാജാവു തന്റെ രഥനായകന്മാരോടുനിങ്ങള് യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവിനോടു മാത്രമല്ലാതെ ചെറിയവരോടോ വലിയവരോടോ യുദ്ധം ചെയ്യരുതു എന്നു കല്പിച്ചിരുന്നു.

30. Meanwhile, the king of Aram had ordered his chariot commanders (there were thirty-two of them), 'Don't bother with anyone whether small or great; go after the king of Israel and him only.'

31. ആകയാല് രഥനായകന്മാര് യെഹോശാഫാത്തിനെ കണ്ടപ്പോള്; ഇവന് തന്നേ യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവനോടു പൊരുതുവാന് തിരിഞ്ഞു; എന്നാല് യെഹോശാഫാത്ത് നിലവിളിച്ചു; യഹോവ അവനെ സഹായിച്ചു; അവനെ വിട്ടുപോകുവാന് ദൈവം അവര്ക്കും തോന്നിച്ചു.

31. When the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they said, 'There he is! The king of Israel!' and took after him. Jehoshaphat yelled out,

32. അവന് യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവല്ല എന്നു രഥനായകന്മാര് കണ്ടിട്ടു അവര് അവനെ പിന്തുടരാതെ മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.

32. and the chariot commanders realized they had the wrong man--it wasn't the king of Israel after all. God intervened and they let him go.

33. എന്നാല് ഒരുത്തന് യദൃച്ഛയാ വില്ലു കുലെച്ചു യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവിനെ കവചത്തിന്നും പതക്കത്തിന്നും ഇടെക്കു എയ്തു; അവന് തന്റെ സാരഥിയോടുനിന്റെ കൈ തിരിച്ചു എന്നെ പടയില്നിന്നു കൊണ്ടുപോക; ഞാന് കഠിനമായി മുറിവേറ്റിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

33. Just then someone, without aiming, shot an arrow into the crowd and hit the king of Israel in the chink of his armor. The king told his charioteer, 'Turn back! Get me out of here--I'm wounded.'

34. അന്നു പട കഠിനമായി തീര്ന്നതുകൊണ്ടു യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവു സന്ധ്യവരെ അരാമ്യര്ക്കെതിരെ രഥത്തില് നിവിര്ന്നുനിന്നു; സൂര്യന് അസ്തമിക്കുന്ന സമയത്തു അവന് മരിച്ചുപോയി.

34. All day the fighting continued, hot and heavy. Propped up in his chariot, the king watched from the sidelines. He died that evening.
