1. അതിന്റെശേഷം അഹശ്വേരോശ്രാജാവിന്റെ ക്രോധം ശമിച്ചപ്പോള് അവന് വസ്ഥിയെയും അവള് ചെയ്തതിനെയും അവളെക്കുറിച്ചു കല്പിച്ച വിധിയെയും ഔര്ത്തു.

1. AFTER THESE things, when the wrath of King Ahasuerus was pacified, he [earnestly] remembered Vashti and what she had done and what was decreed against her.

2. അപ്പോള് രാജാവിന്റെ സേവകന്മാരായ ഭൃത്യന്മാര് പറഞ്ഞതുരാജാവിന്നു വേണ്ടി സൌന്ദര്യമുള്ള യുവതികളായ കന്യകമാരെ അന്വേഷിക്കട്ടെ;

2. Then the king's servants who ministered to him said, Let beautiful young virgins be sought for the king.

3. രാജാവു രാജ്യത്തിലെ സകലസംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിലും ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥന്മാരെ നിയമിക്കേണം; അവര് സൌന്ദര്യമുള്ള യുവതികളായ സകലകന്യകമാരെയും ശേഖരിച്ചു ശൂശന് രാജധാനിയിലെ അന്ത:പുരത്തില് രാജാവിന്റെ ഷണ്ഡനായി അന്ത:പുരപാലകനായ ഹേഗായിയുടെ വിചാരണയില് ഏല്പിക്കയും അവര്ക്കും ശുദ്ധീകരണത്തിന്നു വേണ്ടുന്ന വസ്തുക്കള് കൊടുക്കയും ചെയ്യട്ടെ.

3. And let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom to gather all the beautiful young virgins to the capital in Shushan, to the harem under the custody of Hegai, the king's eunuch, who is in charge of the women; and let their things for purification be given them.

4. രാജാവിന്നു ബോധിച്ച യുവതി വസ്ഥിക്കു പകരം രാജ്ഞിയായിരിക്കട്ടെ. ഈ കാര്യം രാജാവിന്നു ബോധിച്ചു; അവന് അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ ചെയ്തു.

4. And let the maiden who pleases the king be queen instead of Vashti. This pleased the king, and he did so.

5. എന്നാല് ശൂശന് രാജധാനിയില് ബെന്യാമീന്യനായ കീശിന്റെ മകനായ ശിമെയിയുടെ മകനായ യായീരിന്റെ മകന് മൊര്ദ്ദെഖായി എന്നു പേരുള്ള യെഹൂദന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

5. There was a certain Jew in the capital in Shushan whose name was Mordecai son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, a Benjamite,

6. ബാബേല്രാജാവായ നെബൂഖദ് നേസര് പിടിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുപോയ യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഖൊന്യാവോടുകൂടെ കൊണ്ടുപോയിരുന്ന പ്രവാസികളുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് അവനെയും യെരൂശലേമില്നിന്നു കൊണ്ടുപോയിരുന്നു.

6. Who had been carried away from Jerusalem with the captives taken away with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried into exile.

7. അവന് തന്റെ ചിറ്റപ്പന്റെ മകളായ എസ്ഥേര് എന്ന ഹദസ്സെക്കു അമ്മയപ്പന്മാര് ഇല്ലായ്കകൊണ്ടു അവളെ വളര്ത്തിയിരുന്നു. ഈ യുവതി രൂപവതിയും സുമുഖിയും ആയിരുന്നു; അവളുടെ അപ്പനും അമ്മയും മരിച്ചശേഷം മൊര്ദ്ദെഖായി അവളെ തനിക്കു മകളായിട്ടു എടുത്തു.

7. He had brought up Hadassah, that is Esther, his uncle's daughter, for she had neither father nor mother. The maiden was beautiful and lovely, and when her father and mother died, Mordecai took her as his own daughter.

8. രാജാവിന്റെ കല്പനയും വിധിയും പരസ്യമായപ്പോള് അനേകം യുവതികളെ ശേഖരിച്ചു ശൂശന് രാജധാനിയില് ഹേഗായിയുടെ വിചാരണയില് ഏല്പിച്ച കൂട്ടത്തില് എസ്ഥേരിനെയും രാജധാനിയിലെ അന്ത:പുരപാലകനായ ഹേഗായിയുടെ വിചാരണയില് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു.

8. So when the king's command and his decree were proclaimed and when many maidens were gathered in Shushan the capital under the custody of Hegai, Esther also was taken to the king's house into the custody of Hegai, keeper of the women.

9. ആ യുവതിയെ അവന്നു ബോധിച്ചു; അവളോടു പക്ഷം തോന്നി; അവന് അവളുടെ ശുദ്ധീകരണത്തിന്നു വേണ്ടുന്ന വസ്തുക്കളെയും ഉപജീവനവീതത്തെയും രാജധാനിയില്നിന്നു കൊടുക്കേണ്ടുന്ന ഏഴു ബാല്യക്കാരത്തികളെയും അവള്ക്കു വേഗത്തില് കൊടുത്തു; അവളെയും അവളുടെ ബാല്യക്കാരത്തികളെയും അന്ത:പുരത്തിലെ ഉത്തമമായ സ്ഥലത്തു ആക്കി.

9. And the maiden pleased [Hegai] and obtained his favor. And he speedily gave her the things for her purification and her portion of food and the seven chosen maids to be given her from the king's palace; and he removed her and her maids to the best [apartment] in the harem.

10. എസ്ഥേര് തന്റെ ജാതിയും കുലവും അറിയിച്ചില്ല; അതു അറിയിക്കരുതു എന്നു മൊര്ദ്ദേഖായി അവളോടു കല്പിച്ചിരുന്നു.

10. Esther had not made known her nationality or her kindred, for Mordecai had charged her not to do so.

11. എന്നാല് എസ്ഥേരിന്റെ സുഖവര്ത്തമാനവും അവള്ക്കു എന്തെല്ലാമാകുമെന്നുള്ളതും അറിയണ്ടേതിന്നു മൊര്ദ്ദേഖായി ദിവസംപ്രതി അന്ത:പുരത്തിന്റെ മുറ്റത്തിന്നു മുമ്പാകെ നടന്നുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

11. And Mordecai [who was an attendant in the king's court] walked every day before the court of the harem to learn how Esther was and what would become of her.

12. ഔരോ യുവതിക്കു പന്ത്രണ്ടു മാസം സ്ത്രീജനത്തിന്നു വേണ്ടിയുള്ള നിയമപ്രകാരം ചെയ്തു കഴിഞ്ഞശേഷം--ആറു മാസം മൂര്തൈലവും ആറുമാസം സുഗന്ധവര്ഗ്ഗവും സ്ത്രീകള്ക്കു ശുദ്ധീകരണത്തിന്നു വേണ്ടിയുള്ള മറ്റു വസ്തുക്കളുംകൊണ്ടു അവരുടെ ശുദ്ധീകരണകാലം തികയും--ഔരോരുത്തിക്കു അഹശ്വേരോശ് രാജാവിന്റെ സന്നിധിയില് ചെല്ലുവാന് മുറ വരുമ്പോള്

12. Now when the turn of each maiden came to go in to King Ahasuerus, after the regulations for the women had been carried out for twelve months--since this was the regular period for their beauty treatments, six months with oil of myrrh and six months with sweet spices and perfumes and the things for the purifying of the women--

13. ഔരോ യുവതി രാജസന്നിധിയില്ചെല്ലും; അന്ത:പുരത്തില് നിന്നു രാജധാനിയോളം തന്നോടുകൂടെ കൊണ്ടുപോകേണ്ടതിന്നു അവള് ചോദിക്കുന്ന സകലവും അവള്ക്കു കൊടുക്കും.

13. Then in this way the maiden came to the king: whatever she desired was given her to take with her from the harem into the king's palace.

14. സന്ധ്യാസമയത്തു അവള് ചെല്ലുകയും പ്രഭാതകാലത്തു രാജാവിന്റെ ഷണ്ഡനായി വെപ്പാട്ടികളുടെ പാലകനായ ശയസ്ഗസിന്റെ വിചാരണയിലുള്ള രണ്ടാമത്തെ അന്ത:പുരത്തിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോകയും ചെയ്യും; രാജാവിന്നു അവളോടു ഇഷ്ടം തോന്നീട്ടു അവളെ പേര് പറഞ്ഞു വിളിച്ചല്ലാതെ പിന്നെ അവള്ക്കു രാജസന്നിധിയില് ചെന്നുകൂടാ.

14. In the evening she went and next day she returned into the second harem in the custody of Shaashgaz, the king's eunuch who was in charge of the concubines. She came to the king no more unless the king delighted in her and she was called for by name.

15. എന്നാല് മൊര്ദ്ദെഖായി തനിക്കു മകളായിട്ടെടുത്തിരുന്ന അവന്റെ ചിറ്റപ്പന് അബീഹയീലിന്റെ മകളായ എസ്ഥേരിന്നു രാജസന്നിധിയില് ചെല്ലുവാന് മുറ വന്നപ്പോള് അവള് രാജാവിന്റെ ഷണ്ഡനും അന്ത:പുരപാലകനുമായ ഹേഗായി പറഞ്ഞതു മാത്രമല്ലാതെ ഒന്നും ചോദിച്ചില്ല. എന്നാല് എസ്ഥേരിനെ കണ്ട എല്ലാവര്ക്കും അവളോടു പ്രീതി തോന്നും.

15. Now when the turn for Esther the daughter of Abihail, the uncle of Mordecai who had taken her as his own daughter, had come to go in to the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king's attendant, the keeper of the women, suggested. And Esther won favor in the sight of all who saw her.

16. അങ്ങനെ എസ്ഥേരിനെ അഹശ്വേരോശ് രാജാവിന്റെ വാഴ്ചയുടെ ഏഴാം ആണ്ടു തേബേത്ത് മാസമായ പത്താം മാസത്തില് രാജധാനിയില് അവന്റെ അടുക്കലേക്കു കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു.

16. So Esther was taken to King Ahasuerus into his royal palace in the tenth month, the month of Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign.

17. രാജാവു എസ്ഥേരിനെ സകലസ്ത്രീകളെക്കാളും അധികം സ്നേഹിച്ചു; സകലകന്യകമാരിലും അധികം കൃപയും പക്ഷവും അവളോടു തോന്നീട്ടു അവന് രാജകിരീടം അവളുടെ തലയില് വെച്ചു അവളെ വസ്ഥിക്കു പകരം രാജ്ഞിയാക്കി.

17. And the king loved Esther more than all the women, and she obtained grace and favor in his sight more than all the maidens, so that he set the royal crown on her head and made her queen instead of Vashti.

18. രാജാവു തന്റെ സകലപ്രഭുക്കന്മാര്ക്കും ഭൃത്യന്മാര്ക്കും എസ്ഥേരിന്റെ വിരുന്നായിട്ടു ഒരു വലിയ വിരുന്നു കഴിച്ചു; അവന് സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങള്ക്കു ഒരു വിമോചനവും കല്പിച്ചു; രാജപദവിക്കൊത്തവണ്ണം സമ്മാനങ്ങളും കൊടുത്തു.

18. Then the king gave a great feast for all his princes and his servants, Esther's feast; and he gave a holiday [or a lessening of taxes] to the provinces and gave gifts in keeping with the generosity of the king.

19. രണ്ടാം പ്രാവശ്യം കന്യകമാരെ ശേഖരിച്ചപ്പോള് മൊര്ദ്ദെഖായി രാജാവിന്റെ വാതില്ക്കല് ഇരുന്നിരുന്നു.

19. And when the maidens were gathered together the second time, Mordecai was sitting at the king's gate.

20. മൊര്ദ്ദെഖായി കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ എസ്ഥേര് തന്റെ കുലവും ജാതിയും അറിയിക്കാതെയിരുന്നു; എസ്ഥേര് മൊര്ദ്ദെഖായിയുടെ അടുക്കല് വളര്ന്നപ്പോഴത്തെപ്പോലെ പിന്നെയും അവന്റെ കല്പന അനുസരിച്ചു പോന്നു.

20. Now Esther had not yet revealed her nationality or her people, for she obeyed Mordecai's command to her [to fear God and execute His commands] just as when she was being brought up by him.

21. ആ കാലത്തു മൊര്ദ്ദെഖായി രാജാവിന്റെ വാതില്ക്കല് ഇരിക്കുമ്പോള് വാതില്കാവല്ക്കാരില് രാജാവിന്റെ രണ്ടു ഷണ്ഡന്മാരായ ബിഗ്ദ്ധാനും തേരെശും ക്രുദ്ധിച്ചു അഹശ്വേരോശ്രാജാവിനെ കയ്യേറ്റം ചെയ്വാന് തരം അന്വേഷിച്ചു.

21. In those days, while Mordecai sat at the king's gate, two of the king's eunuchs, Bigthan and Teresh, of those who guarded the door, were angry and sought to lay hands on King Ahasuerus.

22. മൊര്ദ്ദെഖായി കാര്യം അറിഞ്ഞു എസ്ഥേര്രാജ്ഞിക്കു അറിവുകൊടുത്തു; എസ്ഥേര് അതു മൊര്ദ്ദെഖായിയുടെ നാമത്തില് രാജാവിനെ ഗ്രഹിപ്പിച്ചു.

22. And this was known to Mordecai, who told it to Queen Esther, and Esther told the king in Mordecai's name.

23. അന്വേഷണം ചെയ്താറെ കാര്യം സത്യമെന്നു കണ്ടു അവരെ രണ്ടുപോരെയും കഴുവിന്മേല് തൂക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു; ഇതു രാജാവിന്റെ മുമ്പില് ദിനവൃത്താന്തപുസ്തകത്തില് എഴുതിവെച്ചു.

23. When it was investigated and found to be true, both men were hanged on the gallows. And it was recorded in the Book of the Chronicles in the king's presence.
