1. അതിന്നു തേമാന്യനായ എലീഫസ് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാല്

1. Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said:

2. മനുഷ്യന് ദൈവത്തിന്നു ഉപകാരമായിവരുമോ? ജ്ഞാനിയായവന് തനിക്കു തന്നേ ഉപകരിക്കേയുള്ളു.

2. Can a man be profitable to God? Though to himself a wise man be profitable!

3. നീ നീതിമാനായാല് സര്വ്വശക്തന്നു പ്രയോജനമുണ്ടോ? നീ നിഷ്കളങ്കനായി നടക്കുന്നതിനാല് അവന്നു ലാഭമുണ്ടോ?

3. Is it of advantage to the Almighty if you are just? Or is it a gain to him if you make your ways perfect?

4. നിന്റെ ഭക്തിനിമിത്തമോ അവന് നിന്നെ ശാസിക്കയും നിന്നെ ന്യായവിസ്താരത്തില് വരുത്തുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നതു?

4. Is it because of your piety that he reproves you-- that he enters with you into judgment?

5. നിന്റെ ദുഷ്ടത വലിയതല്ലയോ? നിന്റെ അകൃത്യങ്ങള്ക്കു അന്തവുമില്ല.

5. Is not your wickedness manifold? Are not your iniquities endless?

6. നിന്റെ സഹോദരനോടു നീ വെറുതെ പണയം വാങ്ങി, നഗ്നന്മാരുടെ വസ്ത്രം ഉരിഞ്ഞെടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

6. You have unjustly kept your kinsmen's goods in pawn, left them stripped naked of their clothing.

7. ക്ഷീണിച്ചവന്നു നീ വെള്ളം കൊടുത്തില്ല; വിശന്നവന്നു നീ ആഹാരം മുടക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

7. To the thirsty you have given no water to drink, and from the hungry you have withheld bread;

8. കയ്യൂറ്റക്കാരന്നോ ദേശം കൈവശമായി, മാന്യനായവന് അതില് പാര്ത്തു.

8. As if the land belonged to the man of might, and only the privileged were to dwell in it.

9. വിധവമാരെ നീ വെറുങ്കയ്യായി അയച്ചു; അനാഥന്മാരുടെ ഭുജങ്ങളെ നീ ഒടിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.

9. You have sent widows away empty-handed, and the resources of orphans you have destroyed.

10. അതുകൊണ്ടു നിന്റെ ചുറ്റും കണികള് ഇരിക്കുന്നു. പെട്ടെന്നു ഭയം നിന്നെ ഭ്രമിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

10. Therefore snares are round about you, and a sudden terror causes you dismay,

11. അല്ല, നീ അന്ധകാരത്തെയും നിന്നെ മൂടുന്ന പെരുവെള്ളത്തെയും കണുന്നില്ലയോ?

11. Or darkness, in which you cannot see; a deluge of waters covers you.

12. ദൈവം സ്വര്ഗ്ഗോന്നതത്തില് ഇല്ലയോ? നക്ഷത്രങ്ങള് എത്ര ഉയര്ന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു നോക്കുക.

12. Does not God, in the heights of the heavens, behold the stars, high though they are?

13. എന്നാല് നീദൈവം എന്തറിയുന്നു? കൂരിരുട്ടില് അവന് ന്യായം വിധിക്കുമോ?

13. Yet you say, 'What does God know? Can he judge through the thick darkness?

14. കാണാതവണ്ണം മേഘങ്ങള് അവന്നു മറ ആയിരിക്കുന്നു; ആകാശമണ്ഡലത്തില് അവന് ഉലാവുന്നു എന്നു പറയുന്നു.

14. Clouds hide him so that he cannot see; he walks upon the vault of the heavens!'

15. ദുഷ്ടമനുഷ്യര് നടന്നിരിക്കുന്ന പുരാതനമാര്ഗ്ഗം നീ പ്രമാണിക്കുമോ?

15. Do you indeed keep to the ancient way trodden by worthless men,

16. കാലം തികയും മുമ്പെ അവര് പിടിപെട്ടുപോയി; അവരുടെ അടിസ്ഥാനം നദിപോലെ ഒഴുകിപ്പോയി.

16. Who were snatched away before their time; whose foundations a flood swept away?

17. അവര് ദൈവത്തോടുഞങ്ങളെ വിട്ടുപോക; സര്വ്വശക്തന് ഞങ്ങളോടു എന്തു ചെയ്യും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

17. These men said to God, 'Depart from us!' and, 'What can the Almighty do to us?'

18. അവനോ അവരുടെ വീടുകളെ നന്മകൊണ്ടു നിറെച്ചു; ദുഷ്ടന്മാരുടെ ആലോചന എന്നോടു അകന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

18. (Yet he had filled their houses with good things! But far be from me the mind of the impious!)

19. നീതിമാന്മാര് കണ്ടു സന്തോഷിക്കുന്നു; കുറ്റമില്ലാത്തവന് അവരെ പരിഹസിച്ചു

19. The just look on and are gladdened, and the innocent deride them:

20. ഞങ്ങളുടെ എതിരാളികള് മുടിഞ്ഞുപോയി; അവരുടെ ശേഷിപ്പു തീക്കിരയായി എന്നു പറയുന്നു.

20. 'Truly these have been destroyed where they stood, and such as were left, fire has consumed!'

21. നീ അവനോടിണങ്ങി സമാധാനമായിരിക്ക; അതിനാല് നിനക്കു നന്മ വരും.

21. Come to terms with him to be at peace. In this shall good come to you:

22. അവന്റെ വായില്നിന്നു ഉപദേശം കൈക്കൊള്ക; അവന്റെ വചനങ്ങളെ നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തില് സംഗ്രഹിക്ക.

22. Receive instruction from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart.

23. സര്വ്വശക്തങ്കലേക്കു തിരിഞ്ഞാല് നീ അഭിവൃദ്ധിപ്രാപിക്കും; നീതികേടു നിന്റെ കൂടാരങ്ങളില്നിന്നു അകറ്റിക്കളയും.

23. If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored; if you put iniquity far from your tent,

24. നിന്റെ പൊന്നു പൊടിയിലും ഔഫീര്തങ്കം തോട്ടിലെ കല്ലിന് ഇടയിലും ഇട്ടുകളക.

24. And treat raw gold like dust, and the fine gold of Ophir as pebbles from the brook,

25. അപ്പോള് സര്വ്വശക്തന് നിന്റെ പൊന്നും നിനക്കു വെള്ളിവാളവും ആയിരിക്കും.

25. Then the Almighty himself shall be your gold and your sparkling silver.

26. അന്നു നീ സര്വ്വശക്തനില് പ്രമോദിക്കും; ദൈവത്തിങ്കലേക്കു നിന്റെ മുഖം ഉയര്ത്തും.

26. For then you shall delight in the Almighty and you shall lift up your face toward God.

27. നീ അവനോടു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിക്കും; അവന് നിന്റെ പ്രാര്ത്ഥന കേള്ക്കും; നീ നിന്റെ നേര്ച്ചകളെ കഴിക്കും.

27. You shall entreat him and he will hear you, and your vows you shall fulfill.

28. നീ ഒരു കാര്യം നിരൂപിക്കും; അതു നിനക്കു സാധിക്കും; നിന്റെ വഴികളില് വെളിച്ചം പ്രകാശിക്കും.

28. When you make a decision, it shall succeed for you, and upon your ways the light shall shine.

29. നിന്നെ താഴ്ത്തുമ്പോള് ഉയര്ച്ച എന്നു നീ പറയും; താഴ്മയുള്ളവനെ അവന് രക്ഷിക്കും.

29. For he brings down the pride of the haughty, but the man of humble mien he saves.

30. നിര്ദ്ദോഷിയല്ലാത്തവനെപ്പോലും അവന് വിടുവിക്കും; നിന്റെ കൈകളുടെ വെടിപ്പിനാല് അവന് വിടുവിക്കപ്പെടും.

30. God delivers him who is innocent; you shall be delivered through cleanness of hands.
