1. മര്ത്യന്നു ഭൂമിയില് യുദ്ധസേവയില്ലയോ? അവന്റെ ജീവകാലം കൂലിക്കാരന്റെ ജീവകാലംപോലെ തന്നേ.

1. Is there not a warfare to common man on earth? And are not his days like the days of a hired worker?

2. വേലക്കാരന് നിഴല് വാഞ്ഛിക്കുന്നതുപോലെയും കൂലിക്കാരന് കൂലിക്കു കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെയും

2. As a slave who earnestly desires the shadow, And as a hired worker that looks for his wages:

3. വ്യര്ത്ഥമാസങ്ങള് എനിക്കു അവകാശമായ്വന്നു, കഷ്ടരാത്രികള് എനിക്കു ഔഹരിയായ്തീര്ന്നു.

3. So am I made to possess months of misery, And wearisome nights are appointed to me.

4. കിടക്കുന്നേരംഞാന് എപ്പോള് എഴുന്നേലക്കും എന്നു പറയുന്നു; രാത്രിയോ ദീര്ഘിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; വെളുക്കുവോളം എനിക്കുരുളുക തന്നേ പണി.

4. When I lie down, I say, When shall I arise, and the night be gone? And I am full of tossings to and fro to the dawning of the day.

5. എന്റെ ദേഹം പുഴുവും മണ്കട്ടയും ഉടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു. എന്റെ ത്വക്കില് പുണ്വായ്കള് അടഞ്ഞു വീണ്ടും പഴുത്തുപൊട്ടുന്നു.

5. My flesh is clothed with worms and clods of dust; My skin closes up, and breaks out afresh.

6. എന്റെ നാളുകള് നെയ്ത്തോടത്തിലും വേഗതയുള്ളതു; പ്രത്യാശകൂടാതെ അവ കഴിഞ്ഞുപോകുന്നു.

6. My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle, And are spent without hope.

7. എന്റെ ജീവന് ഒരു ശ്വാസം മാത്രം എന്നോര്ക്കേണമേ; എന്റെ കണ്ണു ഇനി നന്മയെ കാണുകയില്ല.

7. Oh remember that my life is a breath: My eye will no more see good.

8. എന്നെ കാണുന്നവന്റെ കണ്ണു ഇനി എന്നെ കാണുകയില്ല; നിന്റെ കണ്ണു എന്നെ നോക്കും; ഞാനോ, ഇല്ലാതിരിക്കും.

8. The eye of him who sees me will look at me no more; Your eyes will be on me, but I will not be.

9. മേഘം ക്ഷയിച്ചു മാഞ്ഞുപോകുന്നതുപോലെ പാതാളത്തിലിറങ്ങുന്നവന് വീണ്ടും കയറിവരുന്നില്ല.

9. As the cloud is consumed and vanishes away, So he who goes down to Sheol will come up no more.

10. അവന് തന്റെ വീട്ടിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിവരികയില്ല; അവന്റെ ഇടം ഇനി അവനെ അറികയുമില്ല.

10. He will return no more to his house, Neither will his place know him anymore.

11. ആകയാല് ഞാന് എന്റെ വായടെക്കയില്ല; എന്റെ മന:പീഡയില് ഞാന് സംസാരിക്കും; എന്റെ മനോവ്യസനത്തില് ഞാന് സങ്കടം പറയും.

11. Therefore I will not refrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

12. നീ എനിക്കു കാവലാക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞാന് കടലോ കടലാനയോ ആകുന്നുവോ?

12. Am I a sea, or a sea-monster, That you set a watch over me?

13. എന്റെ കട്ടില് എന്നെ ആശ്വസിപ്പിക്കും; എന്റെ മെത്ത എന്റെ വ്യസനം ശമിപ്പിക്കും എന്നു ഞാന് പറഞ്ഞാല്

13. When I say, My bed will comfort me, My couch will ease my complaint;

14. നീ സ്വപ്നംകൊണ്ടു എന്നെ അരട്ടുന്നു; ദര്ശനംകൊണ്ടും എന്നെ ഭയപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു.

14. Then you scare me with dreams, And terrify me through visions:

15. ആകയാല് ഞാന് ഞെക്കിക്കുലയും ഈ അസ്ഥിക്കൂടത്തെക്കാള് മരണവും തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കുന്നു.

15. So that my soul chooses strangling, And death rather than my bones.

16. ഞാന് അഴിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു; എന്നേക്കും ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കയില്ല; എന്നെ വിടേണമേ; എന്റെ ജീവകാലം ഒരു ശ്വാസം മാത്രമല്ലോ.

16. I loathe [my life]; I would not live always: Leave me alone; for my days are vanity.

17. മര്ത്യനെ നീ ഗണ്യമാക്കേണ്ടതിന്നും അവന്റെമേല് ദൃഷ്ടിവെക്കേണ്ടതിന്നും

17. What is common man, that you should magnify him, And that you should set your mind on him,

18. അവനെ രാവിലെതോറും സന്ദര്ശിച്ചു മാത്രതോറും പരീക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നും അവന് എന്തുള്ളു?

18. And that you should visit him every morning, And try him every moment?

19. നീ എത്രത്തോളം നിന്റെ നോട്ടം എങ്കല് നിന്നു മാറ്റാതിരിക്കും? ഞാന് ഉമിനീര് ഇറക്കുവോളം എന്നെ വിടാതെയുമിരിക്കും?

19. How long will you not look away from me, Nor leave me alone until I swallow down my spittle?

20. ഞാന് പാപം ചെയ്തുവെങ്കില്, മനുഷ്യപാലകനേ, ഞാന് നിനക്കെന്തു ചെയ്യുന്നു? ഞാന് എനിക്കു തന്നേ ഭാരമായിരിക്കത്തക്കവണ്ണം നീ എന്നെ നിനക്കു ലക്ഷ്യമായി വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതെന്തു?

20. If I have sinned, what do I do to you, O you watcher of man? Why have you set me as a mark for you, So that I am a burden to you?

21. എന്റെ അതിക്രമം നീ ക്ഷമിക്കാതെയും അകൃത്യം മോചിക്കാതെയും ഇരിക്കുന്നതെന്തു? ഇപ്പോള് ഞാന് പൊടിയില് കിടക്കും; നീ എന്നെ അന്വേഷിച്ചാല് ഞാന് ഇല്ലാതിരിക്കും.

21. And why don't you pardon my transgression, and take away my iniquity? For now I will lie down in the dust; And you will seek me diligently, but I will not be.
