1. കലഹത്തോടുകൂടി ഒരു വീടു നിറയെ യാഗഭോജനത്തിലും സ്വസ്ഥതയോടുകൂടി ഒരു കഷണം ഉണങ്ങിയ അപ്പം ഏറ്റവും നല്ലതു.

1. Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife.

2. നാണംകെട്ട മകന്റെമേല് ബുദ്ധിമാനായ ദാസന് കര്ത്തൃത്വം നടത്തും; സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ ഇടയില് അവകാശം പ്രാപിക്കും.

4. ദുഷ്കര്മ്മി നീതികെട്ട അധരങ്ങള്ക്കു ശ്രദ്ധകൊടുക്കുന്നു; വ്യാജം പറയുന്നവന് വഷളത്വമുള്ള നാവിന്നു ചെവികൊടുക്കുന്നു.

4. A wicked person listens to deceitful lips; a liar pays attention to a destructive tongue.

9. സ്നേഹം തേടുന്നവന് ലംഘനം മറെച്ചുവെക്കുന്നു; കാര്യം പാട്ടാക്കുന്നവനോ മിത്രങ്ങളെ ഭേദിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

9. Whoever would foster love covers over an offense, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends.

11. മത്സരക്കാരന് ദോഷം മാത്രം അന്വേഷിക്കുന്നു; ക്രൂരനായോരു ദൂതനെ അവന്റെ നേരെ അയക്കും.

11. Evildoers foster rebellion against God; the messenger of death will be sent against them.

12. മൂഢനെ അവന്റെ ഭോഷത്വത്തില് എതിരിടുന്നതിനെക്കാള് കുട്ടികള് കാണാതെപോയ കരടിയെ എതിരിടുന്നതു ഭേദം.

13. ഒരുത്തന് നന്മെക്കു പകരം തിന്മ ചെയ്യുന്നു എങ്കില് അവന്റെ ഭവനത്തെ തിന്മ വിട്ടുമാറുകയില്ല.

13. Evil will never leave the house of one who pays back evil for good.

14. കലഹത്തിന്റെ ആരംഭം മടവെട്ടി വെള്ളം വിടുന്നതുപോലെ; ആകയാല് കലഹമാകുംമുമ്പെ തര്ക്കം നിര്ത്തിക്കളക.

16. മൂഢന്നു ബുദ്ധിയില്ലാതിരിക്കെ ജ്ഞാനം സമ്പാദിപ്പാന് അവന്റെ കയ്യില് ദ്രവ്യം എന്തിനു?

16. Why should fools have money in hand to buy wisdom, when they are not able to understand it?

17. സ്നേഹിതന് എല്ലാകാലത്തും സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നു; അനര്ത്ഥകാലത്തു അവന് സഹോദരനായ്തീരുന്നു.

17. A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.

18. ബുദ്ധിഹീനനായ മനുഷ്യന് കയ്യടിച്ചു കൂട്ടുകാരന്നു വേണ്ടി ജാമ്യം നിലക്കുന്നു.

18. One who has no sense shakes hands in pledge and puts up security for a neighbor.

19. കലഹപ്രിയന് ലംഘനപ്രിയന് ആകുന്നു; പടിവാതില് പൊക്കത്തില് പണിയുന്നവന് ഇടിവു ഇച്ഛിക്കുന്നു.

20. വക്രഹൃദയമുള്ളവന് നന്മ കാണുകയില്ല; വികട നാവുള്ളവന് ആപത്തില് അകപ്പെടും.

20. One whose heart is corrupt does not prosper; one whose tongue is perverse falls into trouble.

21. ഭോഷനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചവന്നു അതു ഖേദകാരണമാകും; മൂഢന്റെ അപ്പന്നു സന്തോഷം ഉണ്ടാകയില്ല.

21. To have a fool for a child brings grief; there is no joy for the parent of a godless fool.

22. സന്തുഷ്ടഹൃദയം നല്ലോരു ഔഷധമാകുന്നു; തകര്ന്ന മനസ്സോ അസ്ഥികളെ ഉണക്കുന്നു.

22. A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

23. ദുഷ്ടന് ന്യായത്തിന്റെ വഴികളെ മറിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഒളിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുവരുന്ന സമ്മാനം വാങ്ങുന്നു.

23. The wicked accept bribes in secret to pervert the course of justice.

24. ജ്ഞാനം ബുദ്ധിമാന്റെ മുമ്പില് ഇരിക്കുന്നു; മൂഢന്റെ കണ്ണോ ഭൂമിയുടെ അറുതികളിലേക്കു നോക്കുന്നു.

24. A discerning person keeps wisdom in view, but a fool's eyes wander to the ends of the earth.

25. മൂഢനായ മകന് അപ്പന്നു വ്യസനവും തന്നെ പ്രസവിച്ചവള്ക്കു കൈപ്പും ആകുന്നു.

25. Foolish children bring grief to their father and bitterness to the mother who bore them.

26. നീതിമാന്നു പിഴ കല്പിക്കുന്നതും ശ്രേഷ്ഠന്മാരെ നേര്നിമിത്തം അടിക്കുന്നതും നന്നല്ല.

26. If imposing a fine on the innocent is not good, surely to flog honest officials is not right.

27. വാക്കു അടക്കിവെക്കുന്നവന് പരിജ്ഞാനമുള്ളവന് ; ശാന്തമാനസന് ബുദ്ധിമാന് തന്നേ.

27. Those who have knowledge use words with restraint, and those who have understanding are even-tempered.

28. മിണ്ടാതിരുന്നാല് ഭോഷനെപ്പോലും ജ്ഞാനിയായും അധരം അടെച്ചുകൊണ്ടാല് വിവേകിയായും എണ്ണും.

28. Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent, and discerning if they hold their tongues.
