1. എഫ്രയീം കാറ്റില് ഇഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടു കിഴക്കന് കാറ്റിനെ പിന്തുടരുന്നു; അവന് ഇടവിടാതെ ഭോഷകും ശൂന്യവും വര്ദ്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; അവര് അശ്ശൂര്യ്യരോടു ഉടമ്പടി ചെയ്യുന്നു; മിസ്രയീമിലേക്കു എണ്ണ കൊടുത്തയക്കുന്നു.

1. Ephraim has surrounded me with lies, the house of Israel, with deceit; Judah is still rebellious against God, against the Holy One, who is faithful.

2. യഹോവേക്കു യെഹൂദയോടും ഒരു വ്യവഹാരം ഉണ്ടു; അവന് യാക്കോബിനെ അവന്റെ നടപ്പിന്നു തക്കവണ്ണം സന്ദര്ശിക്കും; അവന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തികള്ക്കു തക്കവണ്ണം അവന്നു പകരം കൊടുക്കും.

2. Ephraim chases the wind, ever pursuing the gale. His lies and falsehoods are many: he comes to terms with Assyria, and carries oil to Egypt.

3. അവന് ഗര്ഭത്തില്വെച്ചു തന്റെ സഹോദരന്റെ കുതികാല് പിടിച്ചു; തന്റെ പുരുഷപ്രായത്തില് ദൈവത്തോടു പൊരുതി.

3. The LORD has a grievance against Israel: he shall punish Jacob for his conduct, for his deeds he shall repay him.

4. അവന് ദൂതനോടു പൊരുതി ജയിച്ചു; അവന് കരഞ്ഞു അവനോടു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു; അവന് ബേഥേലില്വെച്ചു അവനെ കണ്ടെത്തി, അവിടെവെച്ചു അവന് നമ്മോടു സംസാരിച്ചു.

4. In the womb he supplanted his brother, and as a man he contended with God;

5. യഹോവ സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമാകുന്നു; യഹോവ എന്നു ആകുന്നു അവന്റെ നാമം.

5. He contended with the angel and triumphed, entreating him with tears. At Bethel he met God and there he spoke with him:

6. അതുകൊണ്ടു നീ നിന്റെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കലേക്കു മടങ്ങി വരിക; ദയയും ന്യായവും പ്രമാണിച്ചു, ഇടവിടാതെ നിന്റെ ദൈവത്തിന്നായി കാത്തു കൊണ്ടിരിക്ക.

6. The LORD, the God of hosts, the LORD is his name!

7. അവന് ഒരു കനാന്യനാകുന്നു; കള്ളത്തുലാസു അവന്റെ കയ്യില് ഉണ്ടു; പീഡിപ്പിപ്പാന് അവന് ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നു.

7. You shall return by the help of your God, if you remain loyal and do right and always hope in your God.

8. എന്നാല് എഫ്രയീംഞാന് സമ്പന്നനായ്തീര്ന്നു, എനിക്കു ധനം കിട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു; എന്റെ സകല പ്രയത്നങ്ങളിലും പാപമായ യാതൊരു അകൃത്യവും എന്നില് കണ്ടെത്തുകയില്ല എന്നിങ്ങനെ പറയുന്നു.

8. A merchant who holds a false balance, who loves to defraud!

9. ഞാനോ മിസ്രയീംദേശംമുതല് നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയാകുന്നു; ഞാന് നിന്നെ ഉത്സവദിവസങ്ങളിലെന്നപോലെ ഇനിയും കൂടാരങ്ങളില് വസിക്കുമാറാക്കും.

9. Though Ephraim says, 'How rich I have become; I have made a fortune!' All his gain shall not suffice him for the guilt of his sin.

10. ഞാന് പ്രവാചകന്മാരോടു സംസാരിച്ചു ദര്ശനങ്ങളെ വര്ദ്ധിപ്പിച്ചു; പ്രവാചകന്മാര് മുഖാന്തരം സദൃശവാക്യങ്ങളെയും പ്രയോഗിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

10. I am the LORD, your God, since the land of Egypt; I will again have you live in tents, as in that appointed time.

11. ഗിലെയാദ്യര് നീതികെട്ടവര് എങ്കില് അവര് വ്യര്ത്ഥരായ്തീരും; അവര് ഗില്ഗാലില് കാളകളെ ബലികഴിക്കുന്നു എങ്കില്, അവരുടെ ബിലപീഠങ്ങള് വയലിലെ ഉഴച്ചാലുകളില് ഉള്ള കല്കൂമ്പാരങ്ങള്പോലെ ആകും.

11. I granted many visions and spoke to the prophets, through whom I set forth examples.

12. യാക്കോബ് അരാം ദേശത്തിലേക്കു ഔടിപ്പോയി; യിസ്രായേല് ഒരു ഭാര്യെക്കുവേണ്ടി സേവചെയ്തു, ഒരു ഭാര്യെക്കുവേണ്ടി ആടുകളെ പാലിച്ചു.

12. In Gilead is falsehood, they have come to nought, in Gilgal they sacrifice to bullocks; Their altars are like heaps of stones in the furrows of the field.

13. യഹോവ ഒരു പ്രവാചകന് മുഖാന്തരം യിസ്രായേലിനെ മിസ്രയീമില്നിന്നു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു, ഒരു പ്രവാചകനാല് അവന് പാലിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.

13. When Jacob fled to the land of Aram, he served for a wife; for a wife Israel tended sheep.

14. എഫ്രയീം അവനെ ഏറ്റവും കൈപ്പോടെ കോപിപ്പിച്ചു; ആകയാല് അവന്റെ കര്ത്താവു അവന്റെ രക്തത്തെ അവന്റെമേല് വെച്ചേക്കുകയും അവന്റെ നിന്ദെക്കു തക്കവണ്ണം അവന്നു പകരം കൊടുക്കയും ചെയ്യും

14. By a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet they were protected.
