1. യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് യാത്രപുറപ്പെട്ടു യെരീഹോവിന്റെ സമീപത്തു യോര്ദ്ദാന്നക്കരെ മോവാബ് സമഭൂമിയില് പാളയമിറങ്ങി.

1. The children of Yisra'el traveled, and encamped in the plains of Mo'av beyond the Yarden at Yericho.

2. യിസ്രായേല് അമോര്യ്യരോടു ചെയ്തതൊക്കെയും സിപ്പോരിന്റെ മകനായ ബാലാക് അറിഞ്ഞു.

2. Balak the son of Tzippor saw all that Yisra'el had done to the Amori.

3. ജനം വളരെയായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു മോവാബ് ഏറ്റവും ഭയപ്പെട്ടു; യിസ്രായേല്മക്കളെക്കുറിച്ചു മോവാബ് പരിഭ്രമിച്ചു.

3. Mo'av was sore afraid of the people, because they were many: and Mo'av was distressed because of the children of Yisra'el.

4. മോവാബ് മിദ്യാന്യമൂപ്പന്മാരോടുകാള വയലിലെ പുല്ലു നക്കിക്കളയുന്നതു പോലെ ഈ കൂട്ടം നമ്മുടെ ചുറ്റുമുള്ള എല്ലാവരെയും നക്കിക്കളയും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അക്കാലത്തു മോവാബ്രാജാവു സിപ്പോരിന്റെ മകനായ ബാലാക് ആയിരുന്നു.

4. Mo'av said to the Zakenim of Midyan, Now will this multitude lick up all that is round about us, as the ox licks up the grass of the field. Balak the son of Tzippor was king of Mo'av at that time.

5. അവന് ബെയോരിന്റെ മകനായ ബിലെയാമിനെ വിളിപ്പാന് അവന്റെ സ്വജാതിക്കാരുടെ ദേശത്തു നദീതീരത്തുള്ള പെഥോരിലേക്കു ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചുഒരു ജനം മിസ്രയീമില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടുവന്നു ഭൂതലത്തെ മൂടിയിരിക്കുന്നു; അവര് എനിക്കെതിരെ പാര്ക്കുംന്നു.

5. He sent messengers to Bil`am the son of Be'or, to Petor, which is by the River, to the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying, Behold, there is a people come out from Mitzrayim: behold, they cover the surface of the eretz, and they abide over against me.

6. നീ വന്നു എനിക്കുവേണ്ടി ഈ ജനത്തെ ശപിക്കേണമേ; അവര് എന്നെക്കാള് ഏറ്റവും ബലവാന്മാര് ആയിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു പക്ഷേ അവരെ തോല്പിച്ചു ദേശത്തുനിന്നു ഔടിച്ചുകളവാന് എനിക്കു കഴിവുണ്ടാകുമായിരിക്കും; നീ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നവന് അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടവന് , നീ ശപിക്കുന്നവന് ശപിക്കപ്പെട്ടവന് എന്നു ഞാന് അറിയുന്നു എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.

6. Please come now therefore curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me: peradventure I shall prevail, that we may strike them, and that I may drive them out of the land; for I know that he whom you bless is blessed, and he whom you curse is cursed.

7. മോവാബ്യ മൂപ്പന്മാരും മിദ്യാന്യമൂപ്പന്മാരും കൂടി കയ്യില് പ്രശ്നദക്ഷിണയുമായി ബിലെയാമിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു ബാലാക്കിന്റെ വാക്കുകളെ അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

7. The Zakenim of Mo'av and the Zakenim of Midyan departed with the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came to Bil`am, and spoke to him the words of Balak.

8. അവന് അവരോടുഇന്നു രാത്രി ഇവിടെ പാര്പ്പിന് ; യഹോവ എന്നോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നതു പോലെ ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു ഉത്തരം പറയാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. മോവാബ്യപ്രഭുക്കന്മാര് ബിലെയാമിനോടു കൂടെ പാര്ത്തു.

8. He said to them, Lodge here this night, and I will bring you word again, as the LORD shall speak to me: and the princes of Mo'av abode with Bil`am.

9. ദൈവം ബിലെയാമിന്റെ അടുക്കല്വന്നുനിന്നോടുകൂടെയുള്ള ഈ മനുഷ്യര് ആരെന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

9. God came to Bil`am, and said, What men are these with you?

10. ബിലെയാം ദൈവത്തോടുഒരു ജനം മിസ്രയീമില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടുവന്നു ഭൂതലത്തെ മൂടിയിരിക്കുന്നു; നീ വന്നു എനിക്കുവേണ്ടി അവരെ ശപിക്കേണം.

10. Bil`am said to God, Balak the son of Tzippor, king of Mo'av, has sent to me, saying,

11. പക്ഷേ അവരോടു യുദ്ധം ചെയ്തു അവരെ ഔടിച്ചുകളവാന് എനിക്കു കഴിയും എന്നിങ്ങനെ മോവാബ്രാജാവായി സിപ്പോരിന്റെ മകനായ ബാലാക് എന്റെ അടുക്കല് പറഞ്ഞയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

11. Behold, the people that is come out of Mitzrayim, it covers the surface of the eretz: now, come curse me them; peradventure I shall be able to fight against them, and shall drive them out.

12. ദൈവം ബിലെയാമിനോടുനീ അവരോടുകൂടെ പോകരുതു; ആ ജനത്തെ ശപിക്കയും അരുതു; അവര് അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടവര് ആകുന്നു എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

12. God said to Bil`am, You shall not go with them; you shall not curse the people; for they are blessed.

13. ബിലെയാം രാവിലെ എഴുന്നേറ്റു ബാലാക്കിന്റെ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരോടുനിങ്ങളുടെ ദേശത്തേക്കു പോകുവിന് ; നിങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ പോരുവാന് യഹോവ എനിക്കു അനുവാദം തരുന്നില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

13. Bil`am rose up in the morning, and said to the princes of Balak, Get you into your land; for the LORD refuses to give me leave to go with you.

14. മോവാബ്യപ്രഭുക്കന്മാര് പുറപ്പെട്ടു ബാലാക്കിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു; ബിലെയാമിന്നു ഞങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ വരുവാന് മനസ്സില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

14. The princes of Mo'av rose up, and they went to Balak, and said, Bil`am refuses to come with us.

15. ബാലാക് വീണ്ടും അവരെക്കാള് മാന്യരായ അധികം പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരെ അയച്ചു.

15. Balak sent yet again princes, more, and more honorable than they.

16. അവര് ബിലെയാമിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു അവനോടുഎന്റെ അടുക്കല് വരുന്നതിന്നു മുടക്കം ഒന്നും പറയരുതേ.

16. They came to Bil`am, and said to him, Thus says Balak the son of Tzippor, Please let nothing hinder you from coming to me:

17. ഞാന് നിന്നെ ഏറ്റവും ബഹുമാനിക്കും; നീ എന്നോടു പറയുന്നതൊക്കെയും ഞാന് ചെയ്യാം; വന്നു എനിക്കുവേണ്ടി ഈ ജനത്തെ ശപിക്കേണമേ എന്നു സിപ്പോരിന്റെ മകനായ ബാലാക് പറയുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

17. for I will promote you to very great honor, and whatever you say to me I will do. Please come therefore, and curse this people for me.

18. ബിലെയാം ബാലാക്കിന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരോടുബാലാക് തന്റെ ഗൃഹം നിറെച്ചു വെള്ളിയും പൊന്നും എനിക്കു തന്നാലും എന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയുടെ കല്പന ലംഘിച്ചു ഏറെയോ കുറെയോ ചെയ്വാന് എനിക്കു കഴിയുന്നതല്ല.

18. Bil`am answered the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I can't go beyond the word of the LORD my God, to do less or more.

19. ആകയാല് യഹോവ ഇനിയും എന്നോടു എന്തു അരുളിച്ചെയ്യും എന്നു ഞാന് അറിയട്ടെ; നിങ്ങളും ഈ രാത്രി ഇവിടെ പാര്പ്പിന് എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

19. Now therefore, please wait also here this night, that I may know what the LORD will speak to me more.

20. രാത്രിയില് ദൈവം ബിലെയാമിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നുഇവര് നിന്നെ വിളിപ്പാന് വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എങ്കില് പുറപ്പെട്ടു അവരോടുകൂടെ പോക; എന്നാല് ഞാന് നിന്നോടു കല്പിക്കുന്ന കാര്യം മാത്രമേ ചെയ്യാവു എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

20. God came to Bil`am at night, and said to him, If the men are come to call you, rise up, go with them; but only the word which I speak to you, that shall you do.

21. ബിലെയാം രാവിലെ എഴുന്നേറ്റു കഴുതെക്കു കോപ്പിട്ടു മോവാബ്യപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരോടുകൂടെ പോയി.

21. Bil`am rose up in the morning, and saddled his donkey, and went with the princes of Mo'av.

22. അവന് പോകുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ കോപം ജ്വലിച്ചു; യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് വഴിയില് അവന്നു പ്രതിയോഗിയായി നിന്നു; അവനോ കഴുതപ്പുറത്തു കയറി യാത്ര ചെയ്കയായിരുന്നു; അവന്റെ രണ്ടു ബാല്യക്കാരും കൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

22. God's anger was kindled because he went; and the angel of the LORD placed himself in the way for an adversary against him. Now he was riding on his donkey, and his two servants were with him.

23. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് വാള് ഊരിപ്പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു വഴിയില് നിലക്കുന്നതു കഴുത കണ്ടു; കഴുത വഴിയില് നിന്നു മാറി വയലിലേക്കു പോയി; കഴുതയെ വഴിയിലേക്കു തിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ബിലെയാം അതിനെ അടിച്ചു.

23. The donkey saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, with his sword drawn in his hand; and the donkey turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Bil`am struck the donkey, to turn her into the way.

24. പിന്നെ യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് ഇരുപുറവും മതിലുള്ള മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടങ്ങളുടെ ഇടുക്കുവഴിയില് നിന്നു.

24. Then the angel of the LORD stood in a narrow path between the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side.

25. കഴുത യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതനെ കണ്ടപ്പോള് മതിലരികെ ഒതുങ്ങി ബിലെയാമിന്റെ കാല് മതിലോടു ചേര്ത്തു ഞെക്കി; അവന് അതിനെ വീണ്ടും അടിച്ചു.

25. The donkey saw the angel of the LORD, and she thrust herself to the wall, and crushed Bil`am's foot against the wall: and he struck her again.

26. പിന്നെ യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് മുമ്പോട്ടു ചെന്നു ഇടത്തോട്ടും വലത്തോട്ടും മാറുവാന് വഴിയില്ലാത്ത ഒരു ഇടുക്കിടയില് നിന്നു.

26. The angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.

27. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതനെ കണ്ടപ്പോള് കഴുത ബിലെയാമിന്റെ കീഴെകിടന്നുകളഞ്ഞു; ബിലെയാമിന്റെ കോപം ജ്വലിച്ചു അവന് കഴുതയെ വടികൊണ്ടു അടിച്ചു.

27. The donkey saw the angel of the LORD, and she lay down under Bil`am: and Bil`am's anger was kindled, and he struck the donkey with his staff.

28. അപ്പോള് യഹോവ കഴുതയുടെ വായ് തുറന്നു; അതു ബിലെയാമിനോടുനീ എന്നെ ഈ മൂന്നു പ്രാവശ്യം അടിപ്പാന് ഞാന് നിന്നോടു എന്തു ചെയ്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

28. The LORD opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Bil`am, What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times?

29. ബിലെയാം കഴുതയോടുനീ എന്നെ കളിയാക്കിയതുകൊണ്ടത്രേ. എന്റെ കയ്യില് ഒരു വാള് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നെങ്കില് ഞാന് ഇപ്പോള് തന്നേ നിന്നെ കൊന്നുകളയുമായിരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

29. Bil`am said to the donkey, Because you have mocked me, I would there were a sword in my hand, for now I had killed you.

30. കഴുത ബിലെയാമിനോടുഞാന് നിന്റെ കഴുതയല്ലയോ? ഇക്കാലമൊക്കെയും എന്റെ പുറത്തല്ലയോ നീ കയറിനടന്നതു? ഞാന് എപ്പോഴെങ്കിലും ഇങ്ങനെ നിന്നോടു കാണിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. ഇല്ല എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

30. The donkey said to Bil`am, Am I not your donkey, on which you have ridden all your life long to this day? was I ever wont to do so to you? and he said, No.

31. അപ്പോള് യഹോവ ബിലെയാമിന്റെ കണ്ണു തുറന്നു, യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് വാളൂരിപ്പിടിച്ചു കൊണ്ടു നിലക്കുന്നതു അവന് കണ്ടു സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു നമസ്കരിച്ചു. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് അവനോടു

31. Then the LORD opened the eyes of Bil`am, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, with his sword drawn in his hand; and he bowed his head, and fell on his face.

32. ഈ മൂന്നു പ്രാവശ്യം നീ കഴുതയെ അടിച്ചതു എന്തു? ഇതാ, ഞാന് നിനക്കു പ്രതിയോഗിയായി പുറപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നുനിന്റെ വഴി നാശകരം എന്നു ഞാന് കാണുന്നു.

32. The angel of the LORD said to him, Why have you struck your donkey these three times? behold, I am come forth for an adversary, because your way is perverse before me:

33. കഴുത എന്നെ കണ്ടു ഈ മൂന്നു പ്രാവശ്യം എന്റെ മുമ്പില് നിന്നു മാറിപ്പോയി; അതു മാറിപ്പോയിരുന്നില്ലെങ്കില് ഞാന് ഇപ്പോള് തന്നേ നിന്നെ കൊന്നുകളകയും അതിനെ ജീവനോട രക്ഷിക്കയും ചെയ്യുമായിരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

33. and the donkey saw me, and turned aside before me these three times: unless she had turned aside from me, surely now I had even slain you, and saved her alive.

34. ബിലെയാം യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതനോടുഞാന് പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നുനീ എനിക്കു എതിരായി വഴിയില്നിന്നിരുന്നു എന്നു ഞാന് അറിഞ്ഞില്ല; ഇതു നിനക്കു അനിഷ്ടമെന്നുവരികില് ഞാന് മടങ്ങിപ്പൊയ്ക്കൊള്ളാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

34. Bil`am said to the angel of the LORD, I have sinned; for I didn't know that you stood in the way against me: now therefore, if it displease you, I will get me back again.

35. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് ബിലെയാമിനോടുഇവരോടുകൂടെ പോക; എങ്കിലും ഞാന് നിന്നോടു കല്പിക്കുന്ന വചനം മാത്രമേ പറയാവു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; ബിലെയാം ബാലാക്കിന്റെ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരോടുകൂടെ പോകയും ചെയ്തു.

35. The angel of the LORD said to Bil`am, Go with the men; but only the word that I shall speak to you, that you shall speak. So Bil`am went with the princes of Balak.

36. ബിലെയാം വരുന്നു എന്നു ബാലാക് കേട്ടപ്പോള് അര്ന്നോന് തീരത്തു ദേശത്തിന്റെ അതിരിലുള്ള ഈര്മോവാബ്വരെ അവനെ എതിരേറ്റു ചെന്നു.

36. When Balak heard that Bil`am was come, he went out to meet him to the City of Mo'av, which is on the border of the Arnon, which is in the utmost part of the border.

37. ബാലാക് ബിലെയാമിനോടുഞാന് നിന്നെ വിളിപ്പാന് ആളയച്ചില്ലയോ? നീ വരാതിരുന്നതു എന്തു? നിന്നെ ബഹുമാനിപ്പാന് എനിക്കു കഴികയില്ലയോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞതിന്നു ബിലെയാം ബാലാക്കിനോടു

37. Balak said to Bil`am, Didn't I earnestly send to you to call you? why didn't you come to me? am I not able indeed to promote you to honor?

38. ഞാന് വന്നിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ; എന്നാല് എന്തെങ്കിലും പറവാന് എനിക്കു കഴിയുമോ? ദൈവം എന്റെ നാവിന്മേല് ആക്കിത്തരുന്ന വചനമേ ഞാന് പ്രസ്താവിക്കയുള്ളു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

38. Bil`am said to Balak, Behold, I have come to you: have I now any power at all to speak anything? the word that God puts in my mouth, that shall I speak.

39. അങ്ങനെ ബിലെയാം ബാലാക്കിനോടുകൂടെ പോയി; അവര് കിര്യ്യത്ത് - ഹൂസോത്തില് എത്തി.

39. Bil`am went with Balak, and they came to Kiryat-Hutzot.

40. ബാലാക് കാളകളെയും ആടുകളെയും അറുത്തു ബിലെയാമിന്നും അവനോടുകൂടെയുള്ള പ്രഭുക്കന്മാര്ക്കും കൊടുത്തയച്ചു.

40. Balak sacrificed oxen and sheep, and sent to Bil`am, and to the princes who were with him.

41. പിറ്റെന്നാള് ബാലാക് ബിലെയാമിനെ ബാമോത്ത്-ബാലിലേക്കു കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോയി; അവിടെനിന്നു അവന് ജനത്തിന്റെ ഒരു അറ്റം കണ്ടു.

41. It happened in the morning, that Balak took Bil`am, and brought him up into the high places of Ba`al; and he saw from there the utmost part of the people.
