1. സഹോദരന്മാരേ, ന്യായപ്രമാണം അറിയുന്നവരോടല്ലോ ഞാന് സംസാരിക്കുന്നതുമനുഷ്യന് ജീവനോടിരിക്കും കാലത്തൊക്കെയും ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിന്നു അവന്റെമേല് അധികാരമുണ്ടു എന്നു നിങ്ങള് അറിയുന്നില്ലയോ?

1. Brothers and sisters, all of you understand the law of Moses. So surely you know that the law rules over people only while they are alive.

2. ഭര്ത്താവുള്ള സ്ത്രീ ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ഭര്ത്താവിനോടു ന്യായപ്രമാണത്താല് ബന്ധിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. ഭര്ത്താവു മരിച്ചാല് അവള് ഭര്ത്തൃന്യായപ്രമാണത്തില്നിന്നു ഒഴിവുള്ളവളായി.

2. For example, a woman must stay married to her husband as long as he is alive. But if her husband dies, she is free from the law of marriage.

3. ഭര്ത്താവു ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുമ്പോള് അവള് വേറെ പുരുഷന്നു ആയാല് വ്യഭിചാരിണി എന്നു പേര് വരും; ഭര്ത്താവു മരിച്ചു എങ്കിലോ അവള് വേറെ പുരുഷന്നു ആയാല് വ്യഭിചാരിണി എന്നു വരാതവണ്ണം ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തില്നിന്നു സ്വതന്ത്രയാകുന്നു.

3. But if she marries another man while her husband is still alive, the law says she is guilty of adultery. But if her husband dies, she is free from the law of marriage. Then if she marries another man, she is not guilty of adultery.

4. അതുകൊണ്ടു സഹോദരന്മാരേ, നാം ദൈവത്തിന്നു ഫലം കായക്കുമാറു മരിച്ചിട്ടു ഉയിര്ത്തെഴുന്നേറ്റവനായ വേറോരുവന്നു ആകേണ്ടതിന്നു നിങ്ങളും ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ ശരീരം മുഖാന്തരം ന്യായപ്രമാണസംബന്ധമായി മരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

4. In the same way, my brothers and sisters, your old selves died, and you became free from the law through the body of Christ. This happened so that you might belong to someone else -- the One who was raised from the dead -- and so that we might be used in service to God.

5. നാം ജഡത്തിലായിരുന്നപ്പോള് ന്യായപ്രമാണത്താല് ഉളവായ പാപരാഗങ്ങള് മരണത്തില് ഫലം കായ്ക്കത്തക്കവണ്ണം നമ്മുടെ അവയവങ്ങളില് വ്യാപരിച്ചുപോന്നു.

5. In the past, we were ruled by our sinful selves. The law made us want to do sinful things that controlled our bodies, so the things we did were bringing us death.

6. ഇപ്പോഴോ, നമ്മെ പിടിച്ചടക്കിയിരുന്ന ന്യായപ്രമാണം സംബന്ധിച്ചു മരിച്ചിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു അക്ഷരത്തിന്റെ പഴക്കത്തിലല്ല ആത്മാവിന്റെ പുതുക്കത്തില് തന്നേ സേവിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നാം ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തില്നിന്നു ഒഴിവുള്ളവരായിരിക്കുന്നു.

6. In the past, the law held us like prisoners, but our old selves died, and we were made free from the law. So now we serve God in a new way with the Spirit, and not in the old way with written rules.

7. ആകയാല് നാം എന്തു പറയേണ്ടു? ന്യായപ്രമാണം പാപം എന്നോ? ഒരുനാളും അരുതു. എങ്കിലും ന്യായപ്രമാണത്താല് അല്ലാതെ ഞാന് പാപത്തെ അറിഞ്ഞില്ല; മോഹിക്കരുതു എന്നു ന്യായപ്രമാണം പറയാതിരുന്നെങ്കില് ഞാന് മോഹത്തെ അറികയില്ലായിരുന്നു.

7. You might think I am saying that sin and the law are the same thing. That is not true. But the law was the only way I could learn what sin meant. I would never have known what it means to want to take something belonging to someone else if the law had not said, 'You must not want to take your neighbor's things.'

8. പാപമോ അവസരം ലഭിച്ചിട്ടു കല്പനയാല് എന്നില് സകലവിധ മോഹത്തെയും ജനിപ്പിച്ചു; ന്യായപ്രമാണം കൂടാതെ പാപം നിര്ജ്ജീവമാകുന്നു.

8. And sin found a way to use that command and cause me to want all kinds of things I should not want. But without the law, sin has no power.

9. ഞാന് ഒരുകാലത്തു ന്യായപ്രമാണം കൂടാതെ ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നു; എന്നാല് കല്പന വന്നപ്പോള് പാപംവീണ്ടും ജീവിക്കയും ഞാന് മരിക്കയും ചെയ്തു.

9. I was alive before I knew the law. But when the law's command came to me, then sin began to live,

10. ഇങ്ങനെ ജീവന്നായി ലഭിച്ചിരുന്ന കല്പന എനിക്കു മരണ ഹേതുവായിത്തീര്ന്നു എന്നു ഞാന് കണ്ടു. പാപം അവസരം ലഭിച്ചിട്ടു കല്പനയാല് എന്നെ ചതിക്കയും കൊല്ലുകയും ചെയ്തു.

10. and I died. The command was meant to bring life, but for me it brought death.

11. ആകയാല് ന്യായപ്രമാണം വിശുദ്ധം; കല്പന വിശുദ്ധവും ന്യായവും നല്ലതും തന്നേ.

11. Sin found a way to fool me by using the command to make me die.

12. എന്നാല് നന്മയായുള്ളതു എനിക്കു മരണകാരണമായിത്തീര്ന്നു എന്നോ? ഒരുനാളും അരുതു, പാപമത്രേ മരണമായിത്തീര്ന്നതു; അതു നന്മയായുള്ളതിനെക്കൊണ്ടു എനിക്കു മരണം ഉളവാക്കുന്നതിനാല് പാപം എന്നു തെളിയേണ്ടതിന്നു കല്പനയാല് അത്യന്തം പാപമായിത്തീരേണ്ടതിന്നും തന്നേ.

12. So the law is holy, and the command is holy and right and good.

13. ന്യായപ്രമാണം ആത്മികം എന്നു നാം അറിയുന്നുവല്ലോ; ഞാനോ ജഡമയന് , പാപത്തിന്നു ദാസനായി വില്ക്കപ്പെട്ടവന് തന്നേ.

13. Does this mean that something that is good brought death to me? No! Sin used something that is good to bring death to me. This happened so that I could see what sin is really like; the command was used to show that sin is very evil.

14. ഞാന് പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കുന്നതു ഞാന് അറിയുന്നില്ല; ഞാന് ഇച്ഛിക്കുന്നതിനെ അല്ല പകെക്കുന്നതിനെ അത്രേ ചെയ്യുന്നതു.

14. We know that the law is spiritual, but I am not spiritual since sin rules me as if I were its slave.

15. ഞാന് ഇച്ഛിക്കാത്തതിനെ ചെയ്യുന്നു എങ്കിലോ ന്യായപ്രമാണം നല്ലതു എന്നു ഞാന് സമ്മതിക്കുന്നു.

15. I do not understand the things I do. I do not do what I want to do, and I do the things I hate.

16. ആകയാല് അതിനെ പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കുന്നതു ഞാനല്ല എന്നില് വസിക്കുന്ന പാപമത്രേ.

16. And if I do not want to do the hated things I do, that means I agree that the law is good.

17. എന്നില് എന്നുവെച്ചാല് എന്റെ ജഡത്തില് നന്മ വസിക്കുന്നില്ല എന്നു ഞാന് അറിയുന്നു; നന്മ ചെയ്വാനുള്ള താല്പര്യം എനിക്കുണ്ടു; പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കുന്നതോ ഇല്ല.

17. But I am not really the one who is doing these hated things; it is sin living in me that does them.

18. ഞാന് ചെയ്വാന് ഇച്ഛിക്കുന്ന നന്മ ചെയ്യുന്നില്ലല്ലോ; ഇച്ഛിക്കാത്ത തിന്മയത്രേ പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കുന്നതു.

18. Yes, I know that nothing good lives in me -- I mean nothing good lives in the part of me that is earthly and sinful. I want to do the things that are good, but I do not do them.

19. ഞാന് ഇച്ഛിക്കാത്തതിനെ ചെയ്യുന്നു എങ്കിലോ അതിനെ പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കുന്നതു ഞാനല്ല എന്നില് വസിക്കുന്ന പാപമത്രേ.

19. I do not do the good things I want to do, but I do the bad things I do not want to do.

20. അങ്ങനെ നന്മ ചെയ്വാന് ഇച്ഛിക്കുന്ന ഞാന് തിന്മ എന്റെ പക്കല് ഉണ്ടു എന്നൊരു പ്രമാണം കാണുന്നു.

20. So if I do things I do not want to do, then I am not the one doing them. It is sin living in me that does those things.

21. ഉള്ളംകൊണ്ടു ഞാന് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തില് രസിക്കുന്നു.

21. So I have learned this rule: When I want to do good, evil is there with me.

22. എങ്കിലും എന്റെ ബുദ്ധിയുടെ പ്രമാണത്തോടു പോരാടുന്ന വേറൊരു പ്രമാണം ഞാന് എന്റെ അവയവങ്ങളില് കാണുന്നു; അതു എന്റെ അവയവങ്ങളിലുള്ള പാപപ്രമാണത്തിന്നു എന്നെ ബദ്ധനാക്കിക്കളയുന്നു.

22. In my mind, I am happy with God's law.

23. അയ്യോ, ഞാന് അരിഷ്ടമനുഷ്യന് ! ഈ മരണത്തിന്നു അധീനമായ ശരീരത്തില്നിന്നു എന്നെ ആര് വിടുവിക്കും?

23. But I see another law working in my body, which makes war against the law that my mind accepts. That other law working in my body is the law of sin, and it makes me its prisoner.

24. നമ്മുടെ കര്ത്താവായ യേശുക്രിസ്തുമുഖാന്തരം ഞാന് ദൈവത്തിന്നു സ്തോത്രം ചെയ്യുന്നു. ഇങ്ങനെ ഞാന് തന്നേ ബുദ്ധികൊണ്ടു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പ്രമാണത്തെയും ജഡംകൊണ്ടു പാപത്തിന്റെ പ്രമാണത്തെയും സേവിക്കുന്നു.

24. What a miserable man I am! Who will save me from this body that brings me death?
