1. What follows is an account of how the land of Canaan west of the Jordan was divided among the people of Israel. Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the leaders of the families of the Israelite tribes divided it among the population.

2. യഹോവ മോശെമുഖാന്തരം കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ ഒമ്പതര ഗോത്രങ്ങള്ക്കും ചീട്ടിട്ടായിരുന്നു അവകാശം ഭാഗിച്ചുകൊടുത്തതു.

2. As the LORD had commanded Moses, the territories of the nine and one-half tribes west of the Jordan were determined by drawing lots.

3. രണ്ടര ഗോത്രങ്ങള്ക്കു മോശെ യോര്ദ്ദാന്നക്കരെ അവകാശം കൊടുത്തിരുന്നു; ലേവ്യര്ക്കോ അവരുടെ ഇടയില് ഒരു അവകാശവും കൊടുത്തില്ല.

3. Moses had already assigned the land east of the Jordan to the other two and one-half tribes. (The descendants of Joseph were divided into two tribes: Manasseh and Ephraim.) However, Moses gave the Levites no portion of the territory. Instead, they received cities to live in, with fields for their cattle and flocks.

5. The people of Israel divided the land as the LORD had commanded Moses.

6. അനന്തരം യെഹൂദാമക്കള് ഗില്ഗാലില് യോശുവയുടെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു; കെനിസ്യനായ യെഫുന്നെയുടെ മകന് കാലേബ് അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞതുയഹോവ എന്നെയും നിന്നെയും കുറിച്ചു ദൈവപുരുഷനായ മോശെയോടു കാദേശ് ബര്ന്നേയയില്വെച്ചു പറഞ്ഞ കാര്യം നീ അറിയുന്നുവല്ലോ.

6. One day some people from the tribe of Judah came to Joshua at Gilgal. One of them, Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, said to him, 'You know what the LORD said in Kadesh Barnea about you and me to Moses, the man of God.

7. യഹോവയുടെ ദാസനായ മോശെ കാദേശ്ബര്ന്നേയയില്നിന്നു ദേശത്തെ ഒറ്റുനോക്കുവാന് എന്നെ അയച്ചപ്പോള് എനിക്കു നാല്പതു വയസ്സായിരുന്നു; ഞാന് വന്നു എന്റെ മനോബോധപ്രകാരം അവനോടു മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു.

7. I was forty years old when the LORD's servant Moses sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy out this land. I brought an honest report back to him.

8. എന്നോടുകൂടെ പോന്നിരുന്ന സഹോദരന്മാര് ജനത്തിന്റെ ഹൃദയം ഉരുകുമാറാക്കി; ഞാനോ എന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയോടു പൂര്ണ്ണമായി പറ്റിനിന്നു.

8. The men who went with me, however, made our people afraid. But I faithfully obeyed the LORD my God.

9. നീ എന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയോടു പൂര്ണ്ണമായി പറ്റിനിന്നതുകൊണ്ടു നീ കാല്വെച്ച ദേശം നിനക്കും നിന്റെ മക്കള്ക്കും എന്നേക്കും അവകാശമായിരിക്കും എന്നു മോശെ അന്നു സത്യംചെയ്തു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. Because I did, Moses promised me that my children and I would certainly receive as our possession the land which I walked over.

10. മരുഭൂമിയില് സഞ്ചരിച്ച കാലത്തു യഹോവ മോശെയോടു ഈ വാക്കു കല്പിച്ചതു മുതല് ഈ നാല്പത്തഞ്ചു സംവത്സരത്തോളവും എന്നെ ഇതാ, താന് അരുളിച്ചെയ്തിരുന്നതു പോലെ ജീവനോടെ വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; ഇപ്പോള് എനിക്കു എണ്പത്തഞ്ചു വയസ്സായി.

10. But now, look. It has been forty-five years since the LORD said that to Moses. That was when Israel was going through the desert, and the LORD, as he promised, has kept me alive ever since. Look at me! I am eighty-five years old

11. മോശെ എന്നെ അയച്ച നാളിലെപ്പോലെ ഇന്നും എനിക്കു ആരോഗ്യം ഉണ്ടു; പടവെട്ടുവാനും പോകയും വരികയും ചെയ്വാനും എന്റെ ആരോഗ്യം അന്നത്തെപ്പോലെതന്നെ ഇന്നും ഇരിക്കുന്നു.

11. and am just as strong today as I was when Moses sent me out. I am still strong enough for war or for anything else.

12. ആകയാല് യഹോവ അന്നു കല്പിച്ച ഈ മല ഇപ്പോള് എനിക്കു തരിക; അനാക്യര് അവിടെ ഉണ്ടെന്നും പട്ടണങ്ങള് വലിപ്പവും ഉറപ്പും ഉള്ളവ എന്നും നീ അന്നു കേട്ടിട്ടുണ്ടല്ലോ; യഹോവ എന്നോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടെങ്കില് താന് അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതുപോലെ ഞാന് അവരെ ഔടിച്ചുകളയും.

12. Now then, give me the hill country that the LORD promised me on that day when my men and I reported. We told you then that the race of giants called the Anakim were there in large walled cities. Maybe the LORD will be with me, and I will drive them out, just as the LORD said.'

13. അപ്പോള് യോശുവ അവനെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു; ഹെബ്രോന് മല യെഫുന്നെയുടെ മകനായ കാലേബിന്നു അവകാശമായി കൊടുത്തു.

13. Joshua blessed Caleb son of Jephunneh and gave him the city of Hebron as his possession.

14. അങ്ങനെ ഹെബ്രോന് ഇന്നുവരെ കെനിസ്യനായ യെഫുന്നെയുടെ മകന് കാലേബിന്നു അവകാശമായിരിക്കുന്നു; അവന് യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയെ പൂര്ണ്ണമായി പറ്റിനിന്നതുകൊണ്ടു തന്നേ.

14. Hebron still belongs to the descendants of Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, because he faithfully obeyed the LORD, the God of Israel.

15. ഹെബ്രോന്നു പണ്ടു കിര്യ്യത്ത്-അര്ബ്ബാ എന്നു പേരായിരുന്നു; അര്ബ്ബാ എന്നവന് അനാക്യരില് വെച്ചു അതിമഹാന് ആയിരുന്നു. അങ്ങനെ യുദ്ധം തീര്ന്നു ദേശത്തിന്നു സ്വസ്ഥത വന്നു.

15. Before this, Hebron was called the city of Arba. (Arba had been the greatest of the Anakim.) There was now peace in the land.
