1. അനന്തരം നൂന്റെ മകനായ യോശുവ രഹസ്യമായി ഒറ്റുനോക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ശിത്തീമില്നിന്നു രണ്ടുപേരെ അയച്ചുനിങ്ങള് പോയി ദേശവും യെരീഹോപട്ടണവും നോക്കിവരുവിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവര് പുറപ്പെട്ടു രാഹാബ് എന്നു പേരുള്ളോരു വേശ്യയുടെ വീട്ടില് ചെന്നു അവിടെ പാര്ത്തു.

1. Then Josua the son of Nun sent out of Settim two spies secretly saying: go and view the land and also Jericho. And they went, and came unto a harlot's(tavernar's) house named Rahab, and lodged there.

2. യിസ്രായേല്മക്കളില് ചിലര് ദേശത്തെ ശോധനചെയ്വാന് രാത്രിയില് ഇവിടെ വന്നരിക്കന്നു എന്നു യെരീഹോരാജാവിന്നു അറിവു കിട്ടി.

2. And it was told the king of Jericho saying: Behold there came men in hither tonight, of the children of Israel, to spy out the country.

3. യെരീഹോരാജാവു രാഹാബിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ആളയച്ചുനിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു വീട്ടില് കയറിയിരിക്കുന്ന മനുഷ്യരെ പുറത്തിറക്കിത്തരിക; അവര് ദേശമൊക്കെയും ഒറ്റുനോക്കുവാന് വന്നവരാകുന്നു എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.

3. And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab saying: bring forth the men that are come to thee, which are entered into thine house: for they be come to search out all the land.

4. ആ സ്ത്രീ അവരെ രണ്ടുപേരെയും കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോയി ഒളിപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുഅവര് എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നിരുന്നു എങ്കിലും എവിടത്തുകാര് എന്നു ഞാന് അറിഞ്ഞില്ല;

4. And the woman took the two men and hid them. And said, indeed there came men unto me but I wot(knew) not whence they were.

5. ഇരുട്ടായപ്പോള് പട്ടണവാതില് അടെക്കുന്ന സമയത്തു, അവര് പുറപ്പെട്ടുപോയി; എവിടേക്കു പോയി എന്നു ഞാന് അറിയുന്നില്ല; വേഗത്തില് അവരുടെ പിന്നാലെ ചെല്ലുവിന് ; എന്നാല് അവരെ കണ്ടുപിടിക്കാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

5. And about the time of the shutting of the gate when it was dark, they went out, whither they went I wot not: but follow after them quickly and ye shall take them.

6. എന്നാല് അവള് അവരെ വീട്ടിന് മുകളില് കൊണ്ടുപോയി അവിടെ അടുക്കിവെച്ചിരുന്ന ചണത്തണ്ടുകളുടെ ഇടയില് ഒളിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നു.

6. And she brought them up upon the roof of the house, and hid them under flax (yet in the stalks) which she had lying abroad upon the roof.

7. ആ ആളുകള് യോര്ദ്ദാനിലേക്കുള്ള വഴിയായി കടവുകള്വരെ അവരെ തിരഞ്ഞുചെന്നു; തിരഞ്ഞുചെന്നവര് പുറപ്പെട്ട ഉടനെ പട്ടണവാതില് അടെച്ചു.

7. And the men pursued after them, the way to Jordan even unto the passage, and as soon as they which pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gates immediately.

8. എന്നാല് അവര് കിടപ്പാന് പോകുംമുമ്പെ അവള് മുകളില് അവരുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞതു

8. And or ever they were asleep, she came up unto them upon the roof,

9. യഹോവ ഈ ദേശം നിങ്ങള്ക്കു തന്നിരിക്കുന്നു; നിങ്ങളെയുള്ള ഭീതി ഞങ്ങളുടെമേല് വീണിരിക്കുന്നു; ഈ ദേശത്തിലെ നിവാസികള് എല്ലാവരും നിങ്ങളുടെ നിമിത്തം ഉരുകിപ്പോകുന്നു എന്നു ഞാന് അറിയുന്നു.

9. and said unto the men: I know that the LORD hath given you the land, both because that the fear of you is fallen upon us, and because that the inhabiters of the land faint at your coming.

10. നിങ്ങള് മിസ്രയീമില് നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടുവരുമ്പോള് യഹോവ നിങ്ങള്ക്കുവേണ്ടി ചെങ്കടലിലെ വെള്ളം വറ്റിച്ചതും യോര്ദ്ദാന്നക്കരെവെച്ചു നിങ്ങള് നിര്മ്മൂലമാക്കിയ സീഹോന് , ഔഗ് എന്ന രണ്ടു അമോര്യ്യരാജാക്കന്മാരോടു ചെയ്തതും ഞങ്ങള് കേട്ടു.

10. For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the red sea before you, when you came out of Egypt, and what you did unto the two kings of the Amorites on the other side Jordan Sehon, and Og, which ye utterly destroyed.

11. കേട്ടപ്പോള് തന്നേ ഞങ്ങളുടെ ഹൃദയം ഉരുകി; നിങ്ങളുടെ നിമിത്തം എല്ലാവര്ക്കും ധൈര്യം കെട്ടുപോയി; നിങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ തന്നേ മീതെ സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തിലും താഴെ ഭൂമിയിലും ദൈവം ആകുന്നു.

11. And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did faint. And there remained no more courage in any man for fear of your coming. For the LORD your God, he is the God in heaven above: and on the earth beneath.

12. ആകയാല് ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു ദയ ചെയ്ക കൊണ്ടു നിങ്ങളും എന്റെ പിതൃഭവനത്തോടു ദയ ചെയ്തു.

12. Now therefore swear unto me by the LORD because I have shewed you mercy, that ye shall also shew mercy unto my father's house and give me a true token.

13. എന്റെ അപ്പനെയും അമ്മയെയും എന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരെയും സഹോദരിമാരെയും അവര്ക്കുംള്ള സകലത്തെയും ജീവനോടെ രക്ഷിച്ചു ഞങ്ങളുടെ ജീവനെ മരണത്തില്നിന്നു വിടുവിക്കുമെന്നു യഹോവയെച്ചൊല്ലി എന്നോടു സത്യംചെയ്കയും ഉറപ്പുള്ള ഒരു ലക്ഷ്യം തരികയും വേണം.

13. And that ye shall save alive, both my father, and my mother, my brethren and my sisters, and all that pertain unto them. And that ye shall deliver our souls from death.

14. അവര് അവളോടുഞങ്ങളുടെ ഈ കാര്യം നിങ്ങള് അറിയിക്കാതെയിരുന്നാല് നിങ്ങളുടെ ജീവന്നു പകരം ഞങ്ങളുടെ ജീവന് വെച്ചുകൊടുക്കും. യഹോവ ഈ ദേശം ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു തരുമ്പോള് ഞങ്ങള് നിന്നോടു ദയയും വിശ്വസ്തതയും കാണിക്കും എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

14. And the men answered her, our lives for you to die, if you utter not this our communication. And so when the LORD hath given us the land, we will deal Mercifully and truly with thee.

15. എന്നാറെ അവള് അവരെ കിളിവാതിലൂടെ ഒരു കയറുകെട്ടി ഇറക്കി; അവളുടെ വീടു കോട്ടമതിലിന്മേല് ആയിരുന്നു; അവള് മതിലിന്മേല് പാര്ത്തിരുന്നു.

15. And then she let them down with a cord thorow the window. For her house stood in the town wall. And she dwelt in the town wall.

16. അവള് അവരോടുതിരിഞ്ഞുപോയവര് നിങ്ങളെ കണ്ടുപിടിക്കാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നിങ്ങള് പര്വ്വതത്തില് കയറി അവര് മടങ്ങിപ്പോരുവോളം മൂന്നു ദിവസം അവിടെ ഒളിച്ചിരിപ്പിന് ; അതിന്റെ ശേഷം നിങ്ങളുടെ വഴിക്കു പോകാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

16. And she said unto them, get you into the mountains, lest the followers meet you, and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned, and then may ye go your ways.

17. അവര് അവളോടു പറഞ്ഞതുഞങ്ങള് ഈ ദേശത്തു വരുമ്പോള് നീ ഞങ്ങളെ ഇറക്കിവിട്ട ഈ കിളിവാതില്ക്കല്

17. And the men said unto her, we will be blameless of thy oath, which thou hast made us swear.

18. ഈ ചുവപ്പു ചരടു കെട്ടുകയും നിന്റെ അപ്പനെയും അമ്മയെയും സഹോദരന്മാരെയും പിതൃഭവനത്തെയൊക്കെയും നിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വീട്ടില് വരുത്തിക്കൊള്ളുകയും വേണം.

18. Behold, when we come unto the land, thou shalt bind this purple threaden cord in the window, which thou lettest us down by. And thou shalt bring thy father, thy mother, thy brethren, and all thy father's household, even into the house to thee.

19. അല്ലെങ്കില് നീ ഞങ്ങളെക്കൊണ്ടു ചെയ്യിച്ച സത്യത്തില്നിന്നു ഞങ്ങള് ഒഴിവുള്ളവരാകും. ആരെങ്കിലും വീട്ടുവാതിലിന്നു പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയാല് അവന്റെ രക്തം അവന്റെ തലമേല് ഇരിക്കും; ഞങ്ങള് കുറ്റമില്ലാത്തവര് ആകും; നിന്നോടുകൂടെ വീട്ടില് ഇരിക്കുമ്പോള് വല്ലവനും അവന്റെ മേല് കൈവെച്ചാല് അവന്റെ രക്തം ഞങ്ങളുടെ തലമേല് ഇരിക്കും.

19. And then whosoever go out at the doors of thy house, into the street, his blood shall be upon his own head, and we guiltless. And whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood be upon our heads if any man's hand be upon him:

20. എന്നാല് നീ ഞങ്ങളുടെ കാര്യം അറിയിച്ചാല് നീ ഞങ്ങളെക്കൊണ്ടു ചെയ്യിച്ച സത്യത്തില് നിന്നു ഞങ്ങള് ഒഴിവുള്ളവര് ആകും.

20. And even so if thou utter these our words, we will be quite of thy oath which thou hast made us swear.

21. അതിന്നു അവള്നിങ്ങള് പറഞ്ഞതുപോലെ ആകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവരെ അയച്ചു; അങ്ങനെ അവര് പോയി; അവള് ആ ചുവപ്പുചരടു കിളിവാതില്ക്കല് കെട്ടി.

21. And she said according unto your words so be it: and so sent them away, and they departed. And she bound the purple cord in the window.

22. അവര് പുറപ്പെട്ടു പര്വ്വതത്തില് ചെന്നു; തിരഞ്ഞുപോയവര് മടങ്ങിപ്പോരുംവരെ മൂന്നു ദിവസം അവിടെ താമസിച്ചു; തിരഞ്ഞുപോയവര് വഴിനീളേ അവരെ അന്വേഷിച്ചു; കണ്ടില്ലതാനും.

22. And they departed and got them into the mountains, and there abode three days until the pursuers were returned. And the pursuers sought thorowout all the way and found them not.

23. അങ്ങനെ അവര് ഇരുവരും പര്വ്വതത്തില്നിന്നു ഇറങ്ങി അക്കരെ കടന്നു നൂന്റെ മകനായ യോശുവയുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു തങ്ങള്ക്കു സംഭവിച്ചതു ഒക്കെയും അവനെ അറിയിച്ചു.

23. And the two men returned and descended from the mountain and passed over, and came to Josua the son of Nun, and told him all that had chanced them.

24. യഹോവ ദേശമൊക്കെയും നമ്മുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു നിശ്ചയം; ദേശത്തിലെ നിവാസികള് എല്ലാവരും നമ്മുടെ നിമിത്തം ഉരുകിപ്പോകുന്നു എന്നു അവര് യോശുവയോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

24. And they said unto Josua the LORD hath delivered into our hands all the land, for all the inhabiters of the country faint for fear of us.
