1. യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് പിന്നെയും യഹോവേക്കു അനിഷ്ടമായുള്ളതു ചെയ്തു; യഹോവ അവരെ നാല്പതു സംവത്സരത്തോളം ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചു.

1. And the children of Israel began again to commit wickedness in the sight of the LORD. And the LORD delivered them into the hands of the Philistines forty year.

2. എന്നാല് ദാന് ഗോത്രത്തില് ഉള്ളവനായി സോരാഥ്യനായ ഒരു പുരുഷന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന്നു മാനോഹ എന്നു പേര്; അവന്റെ ഭാര്യ മച്ചിയായിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു പ്രസവിച്ചിരുന്നില്ല.

2. And there was a man in Zaraah of the kindred of the Dannites, named Manoah, whose wife was barren and bare not.

3. ആ സ്ത്രീക്കു യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് പ്രത്യക്ഷനായി അവളോടു പറഞ്ഞതുനീ മച്ചിയല്ലോ, പ്രസവിച്ചിട്ടുമില്ല; എങ്കിലും നീ ഗര്ഭംധരിച്ചു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിക്കും.

3. And the Angel of the LORD appeared unto his wife and said unto her: Behold, thou art barren and bearest not: But thou shalt conceive and bear a son.

4. ആകയാല് നീ സൂക്ഷിച്ചു കൊള്ക, വീഞ്ഞും മദ്യവും കുടിക്കരുതു; അശുദ്ധമായതൊന്നും തിന്നുകയുമരുതു.

4. And now beware, and drink no wine, nor strong drink, neither eat any unclean thing:

5. നീ ഗര്ഭംധരിച്ചു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിക്കും; അവന്റെ തലയില് ക്ഷൌരക്കത്തി തൊടുവിക്കരുതു; ബാലന് ഗര്ഭംമുതല് ദൈവത്തിന്നു നാസീരായിരിക്കും; അവന് യിസ്രായേലിനെ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു രക്ഷിപ്പാന് തുടങ്ങും.

5. for see, thou shalt conceive and bear a son. And there may no razor or shearers come on his head: for the lad shall be an abstainer unto God, even from the time of his birth. And he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hands of the Philistines.

6. സ്ത്രീ ചെന്നു ഭര്ത്താവിനോടു പറഞ്ഞതുഒരു ദൈവപുരുഷന് എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു; അവന്റെ ആകൃതി ഒരു ദൈവദൂതന്റെ ആകൃതിപോലെ അതിഭയങ്കരം ആയിരുന്നു; അവന് എവിടെനിന്നെന്നു ഞാന് അവനോടു ചോദിച്ചില്ല; തന്റെ പേര് അവന് എന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞതും ഇല്ല.

6. Then the wife went and told her husband saying: a man of God came unto me, and the fashion of him was like the fashion of an Angel of God exceeding fearful. But I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me his name.

7. അവന് എന്നോടു നീ ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിക്കും; ആകയാല് നീ വീഞ്ഞും മദ്യവും കുടിക്കരുതു; അശുദ്ധമായതൊന്നും തിന്നുകയും അരുതു; ബാലന് ഗര്ഭംമുതല് ജീവപര്യന്തം ദൈവത്തിന്നു നാസീരായിരിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

7. And he said unto me: behold thou shalt be with child and bear a son, and now drink no wine nor strong drink, neither eat any unclean thing: for the lad shall be an abstainer to God even from his birth to the day of his death.

8. മാനോഹ യഹോവയോടു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിച്ചുകര്ത്താവേ, നീ അയച്ച ദൈവപുരുഷന് വീണ്ടും ഞങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു, ജനിപ്പാനിരിക്കുന്ന ബാലന്റെ കാര്യത്തില് ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു ഉപദേശിച്ചുതരുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

8. Then Manoah made intercession to the LORD, and said: I pray thee my Lord(Lorde)(LORDE) let the man of God which thou sendest come once more unto us and teach us what we shall do unto the lad when he is born.

9. ദൈവം മാനോഹയുടെ പ്രാര്ത്ഥന കേട്ടു; ദൈവദൂതന് വീണ്ടും അവളുടെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു; അവള് വയലില് ഇരിക്കയായിരുന്നു; അവളുടെ ഭര്ത്താവു മാനോഹ കൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല.

9. And God heard the voice of Manoah, and the angel of God came again unto the wife, as she sat in the fields: But Manoah her husband was not with her.

10. ഉടനെ സ്ത്രീ ഔടിച്ചെന്നു ഭര്ത്താവിനെ അറിയിച്ചു; അന്നു എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്ന ആള് ഇതാ, എനിക്കു പ്രത്യക്ഷനായിവന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. Then the wife made haste and ran and shewed her husband and said to him: Behold the man appeared unto me that came the other day unto me.

11. മാനോഹ ഉടനെ എഴുന്നേറ്റു ഭാര്യയോടുകൂടെ ചെന്നു ആ പുരുഷന്റെ അടുക്കല് എത്തി; ഈ സ്ത്രീയോടു സംസാരിച്ച ആള് നീയോ എന്നു അവനോടു ചോദിച്ചു; ഞാന് തന്നേ എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

11. And Manoah arose and went after his wife and came to the man and said unto him: art thou the man that spakest unto my wife? And he said, yea.

12. മാനോഹ അവനോടുനിന്റെ വചനം നിവൃത്തിയാകുമ്പോള് ബാലന്റെ കാര്യത്തില് ഞങ്ങള് എങ്ങനെ ആചരിക്കേണം? അവനെ സംബന്ധിച്ചു എന്തു ചെയ്യേണം എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

12. Then Manoah said, now when thy saying is come to pass: what shall be the manner of the child, and what shall he do?

13. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് മാനോഹയോടുഞാന് സ്ത്രീയോടു പറഞ്ഞതൊക്കെയും അവള് സൂക്ഷിച്ചുകൊള്ളട്ടെ.

13. And the Angel of the LORD said unto Manoah: thy wife must abstain from all that I said unto her:

14. മുന്തിരിവള്ളിയില് ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന യാതൊന്നും അവള് തിന്നരുതു; വീഞ്ഞും മദ്യവും കുടിക്കരുതു; അശുദ്ധമായതൊന്നും തിന്നുകയും അരുതു; ഞാന് അവളോടു കല്പിച്ചതൊക്കെയും അവള് ആചരിക്കേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

14. she may eat of nothing that cometh of the vine tree, nor drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing: But must observe all that I bade her.

15. മാനോഹ യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതനോടുഞങ്ങള് ഒരു കോലാട്ടിന് കുട്ടിയെ നിനക്കായി പാകം ചെയ്യുംവരെ നീ താമസിക്കേണമെന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

15. Then said Manoah unto the Angel of the LORD, grant us to tarry until we have made ready a kid and have set it before thee.

16. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് മാനോഹയോടുനീ എന്നെ താമസിപ്പിച്ചാലും ഞാന് നിന്റെ ആഹാരം കഴിക്കയില്ല; ഒരു ഹോമയാഗം കഴിക്കുമെങ്കില് അതു യഹോവേക്കു കഴിച്ചുകൊള്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവന് യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് എന്നു മാനോഹ അറിഞ്ഞിരുന്നില്ല.

16. And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah: though thou make me abide, I will not eat of thy meat. And moreover, if thou wilt prepare a burntoffering, that thou must offer unto the LORD. For Manoah wist not that it was an angel of the LORD.

17. മാനോഹ യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതനോടുനിന്റെ വചനം നിവൃത്തിയാകുമ്പോള് ഞങ്ങള് നിന്നെ ബഹുമാനിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നിന്റെ പേരെന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

17. And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD: what is thy name, that when thy saying is come to pass, we may do thee some worship?

18. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് അവനോടുഎന്റെ പേര് ചോദിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു? അതു അതിശയമുള്ളതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

18. And the angel of the LORD said unto him: why askest thou after my name? when it is marvelous.

19. അങ്ങനെ മാനോഹ ഒരു കോലാട്ടിന് കുട്ടിയെയും ഭോജനയാഗത്തെയും കൊണ്ടുവന്നു ഒരു പാറമേല് യഹോവേക്കു യാഗം കഴിച്ചു; മാനോഹയും ഭാര്യയും നോക്കിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കെ അവന് ഒരു അതിശയം പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ചു.

19. And Manoah took a Kid with a meat offering and offered it upon a rock unto the LORD. And the angel did wonderfully, Manoah and his wife looking upon.

20. അഗ്നിജ്വാല യാഗപീഠത്തിന്മേല്നിന്നു ആകാശത്തിലേക്കു പൊങ്ങിയപ്പോള് യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് യാഗപീഠത്തിന്റെ ജ്വാലയോടുകൂടെ കയറിപ്പോയി; മാനോഹയും ഭാര്യയും കണ്ടു സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു.

20. For when the flame came up out of the altar, the angel of the LORD ascended up in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked upon and fell flat on their faces unto the ground:

21. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് മാനോഹെക്കും ഭാര്യെക്കും പിന്നെ പ്രത്യക്ഷനായില്ല; അങ്ങനെ അതു യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് എന്നു മാനോഹ അറിഞ്ഞു.

21. But the angel of the LORD did no more appear unto Manoah and his wife. And then Manoah knew that it was an angel of the LORD:

22. ദൈവത്തെ കണ്ടതുകൊണ്ടു നാം മരിച്ചുപോകും എന്നു മാനോഹ ഭാര്യയോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

22. and said unto his wife: we shall surely die, because we have seen God.

23. ഭാര്യ അവനോടുനമ്മെ കൊല്ലുവാന് യഹോവേക്കു ഇഷ്ടമായിരുന്നു എങ്കില് അവന് നമ്മുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു ഹോമയാഗവും ഭോജനയാഗവും കൈക്കൊള്കയോ ഇവ ഒക്കെയും നമുക്കു കാണിച്ചുതരികയോ ഈ സമയത്തു ഇതുപോലെയുള്ള കാര്യം നമ്മെ അറിയിക്കയോ ചെയ്കയില്ലായിരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

23. But his wife said unto him: If the LORD would kill us, he would not have received a burntoffering and a meatoffering of our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would have told us as he hath of things to come.

24. അനന്തരം സ്ത്രീ ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു, അവന്നു ശിംശോന് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു ബാലന് വളര്ന്നു; യഹോവ അവനെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു.

24. And the wife bare a son, and called his name Samson. And the lad grew, and the LORD blessed him.

25. സോരെക്കും എസ്തായോലിന്നും മദ്ധ്യേയുള്ള മഹനേ--ദാനില്വെച്ചു യഹോവയുടെ ആത്മാവു അവനെ ഉദ്യമിപ്പിച്ചുതുടങ്ങി.

25. And the spirit of the LORD began first to be with the house of Dan, between Zaraah and Esthaol.
