1. അനന്തരം ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് കെയീലയുടെ നേരെ യുദ്ധം ചെയ്യുന്നു എന്നും അവര് കളങ്ങളില് കവര്ച്ച ചെയ്യുന്നു എന്നും ദാവീദിന്നു അറിവു കിട്ടി.

1. Then they told David, saying, Behold, the Philistines fight against Keilah, and they rob the threshing-floors.

2. ദാവീദ് യഹോവയോടു; ഞാന് ഈ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരെ ചെന്നു തോല്പിക്കേണമോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. യഹോവ ദാവീദിനോടുചെന്നു ഫെലിസ്ത്യരെ തോല്പിച്ചു കെയീലയെ രക്ഷിച്ചുകൊള്ക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

2. Therefore David inquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the LORD said to David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah.

3. എന്നാല് ദാവീദിന്റെ ആളുകള് അവനോടുനാം ഇവിടെ യെഹൂദയില് തന്നേ ഭയപ്പെട്ടു പാര്ക്കുംന്നുവല്ലോ; പിന്നെ കെയീലയില് ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ സൈന്യത്തിന്റെ നേരെ എങ്ങനെ ചെല്ലും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

3. And David's men said to him, Behold, we are afraid here in Judah: how much more then if we come to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?

4. ദാവീദ് വീണ്ടും യഹോവയോടു ചോദിച്ചു. യഹോവ അവനോടുഎഴുന്നേറ്റു കെയീലയിലേക്കു ചെല്ലുക; ഞാന് ഫെലിസ്ത്യരെ നിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കും എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

4. Then David inquired of the LORD yet again. And the LORD answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into thy hand.

5. അങ്ങനെ ദാവീദും അവന്റെ ആളുകളും കെയീലയിലേക്കു പോയി ഫെലിസ്ത്യരോടു പൊരുതു അവരുടെ ആടുമാടുകളെ അപഹരിച്ചു അവരെ കഠനിമായി തോല്പിച്ചു കെയീലാനിവാസികളെ രക്ഷിച്ചു.

5. So David and his men went to Keilah, and fought with the Philistines, and brought away their cattle, and smote them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.

6. അഹീമേലെക്കിന്റെ മകനായ അബ്യാഥാര് കെയീലയില് ദാവീദിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ഔടിവന്നപ്പോള് കൈവശം ഏഫോദ് കൂടെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നിരുന്നു.

6. And it came to pass, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David to Keilah, {that} he came down {with} an ephod in his hand.

7. ദാവീദ് കെയീലയില് വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ശൌലിന്നു അറിവു കിട്ടി; ദൈവം അവനെ എന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; വാതിലും ഔടാമ്പലും ഉള്ള പട്ടണത്തില് കടന്നിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു അവന് കുടുങ്ങിയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ശൌല് പറഞ്ഞു.

7. And it was told to Saul that David had come to Keilah. And Saul said, God hath delivered him into my hand; for he is shut in, by entering into a town that hath gates and bars.

8. പിന്നെ ശൌല് ദാവീദിനേയും അവന്റെ ആളുകളെയും വളയേണ്ടതിന്നു കെയീലയിലേക്കു പോകുവാന് സകലജനത്തേയും യുദ്ധത്തിന്നു വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി.

8. And Saul called all the people together to war, to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men.

9. ശൌല് തന്റെ നേരെ ദോഷം ആലോചിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ദാവീദ് അറിഞ്ഞപ്പോള് പുരോഹിതനായ അബ്യാഥാരിനോടുഏഫോദ് ഇവിടെ കൊണ്ടുവരിക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. And David knew that Saul secretly plotted mischief against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest, Bring hither the ephod.

10. പിന്നെ ദാവീദ്യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേ, ശൌല് കെയീലയിലേക്കു വന്നു എന്റെ നിമിത്തം ഈ പട്ടണം നശിപ്പിപ്പാന് പോകുന്നു എന്നു അടിയന് കേട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.

10. Then said David, O LORD God of Israel, thy servant hath certainly heard that Saul seeketh to come to Keilah, to destroy the city for my sake.

11. കെയീലപൌരന്മാര് എന്നെ അവന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചുകൊടുക്കുമോ? അടിയന് കേട്ടിരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ ശൌല് വരുമോ? യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേ, അടിയനെ അറിയിക്കേണമേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവന് വരും എന്നു യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

11. Will the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? will Saul come down as thy servant hath heard? O LORD God of Israel, I beseech thee, tell thy servant. And the LORD said, He will come down.

12. ദാവീദ് പിന്നെയുംകെയീലപൌരന്മാര് എന്നെയും എന്റെ ആളുകളെയും ശൌലിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചുകൊടുക്കുമോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അവര് ഏല്പിച്ചുകൊടുക്കും എന്നു യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

12. Then said David, Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul? And the LORD said, They will deliver {thee} up.

13. അപ്പോള് ദാവീദും അറുനൂറുപേരോളം ഉള്ള അവന്റെ ആളുകളും കെയീലയെ വിട്ടു പുറപ്പെട്ടു തരം കണ്ടേടത്തുസഞ്ചരിച്ചു. ദാവീദ് കെയീല വിട്ടു ഔടിപ്പോയി എന്നു ശൌല് അറിഞ്ഞപ്പോള് അവന് യാത്ര നിര്ത്തിവെച്ചു.

13. Then David and his men {who were} about six hundred, arose and departed from Keilah, and went whithersoever they could go. And it was told Saul that David had escaped from Keilah: and he forbore to go forth.

14. ദാവീദ് മരുഭൂമിയിലെ ദുര്ഗ്ഗങ്ങളില് താമസിച്ചു. സീഫ് മരുഭൂമയിയിലെ മലനാട്ടില് പാര്ത്തു; ഇക്കാലത്തൊക്കെയും ശൌല് അവനെ തിരഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു; എങ്കിലും ദൈവം അവനെ അവന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചില്ല.

14. And David abode in the wilderness in strong holds, and remained in a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God delivered him not into his hand.

15. തന്റെ ജീവനെ തേടി ശൌല് പുറപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ദാവീദ് കണ്ടു; അന്നു ദാവീദ് സീഫ് മരുഭൂമിയിലെ ഒരു കാട്ടില് ആയിരുന്നു.

15. And David saw that Saul had come out to seek his life: and David {was} in the wilderness of Ziph in a wood.

16. അനന്തരം ശൌലിന്റെ മകനായ യോനാഥാന് പുറപ്പെട്ടു ആ കാട്ടില് ദാവീദിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു അവനെ ദൈവത്തില് ധൈര്യപ്പെടുത്തി അവനോടുഭയപ്പെടേണ്ടാ,

16. And Jonathan Saul's son arose, and went to David into the wood, and strengthened his hand in God.

17. എന്റെ അപ്പനായ ശൌലിന്നു നിന്നെ പിടികിട്ടുകയില്ല; നീ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു രാജാവാകും; അന്നു ഞാന് നിനക്കു രണ്ടാമനും ആയിരിക്കും; അതു എന്റെ അപ്പനായ ശൌലും അറിയുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

17. And he said to him, Fear not: for the hand of Saul my father shall not find thee; and thou wilt be king over Israel, and I shall be next to thee; and that also Saul my father knoweth.

18. ഇങ്ങനെ അവര് തമ്മില് യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് ഉടമ്പടി ചെയ്തു; ദാവീദ് കാട്ടില് താമസിക്കയും യോനാഥാന് വീട്ടിലേക്കു പോകയും ചെയ്തു.

18. And they two made a covenant before the LORD: and David abode in the wood, and Jonathan went to his house.

19. അനന്തരം സീഫ്യര് ഗിബെയയില് ശൌലിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നുദാവീദ് ഞങ്ങളുടെ സമീപം മരുഭൂമിക്കു തെക്കുള്ള ഹഖീലാമലയിലെ വനദുര്ഗ്ഗങ്ങളില് ഒളിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

19. Then came up the Ziphites to Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself with us in strong holds in the wood, in the hill of Hachilah, which {is} on the south of Jeshimon?

20. ആകയാല് രാജാവേ, തിരുമനസ്സിലെ ആഗ്രഹംപോലെ വന്നുകൊള്ളേണം; അവനെ രാജാവിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചുതരുന്ന കാര്യം ഞങ്ങള് ഏറ്റിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

20. Now therefore, O king, come down according to all the desire of thy soul to come down; and our part {shall be} to deliver him into the king's hand.

21. അതിന്നു ശൌല് പറഞ്ഞതുനിങ്ങള്ക്കു എന്നോടു മനസ്സലിവു തോന്നിയിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു നിങ്ങള് യഹോവയാല് അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടവര്.

21. And Saul said, Blessed {be} ye of the LORD; for ye have compassion on me.

22. നിങ്ങള് പോയി ഇനിയും സൂക്ഷ്മമായി അന്വേഷിച്ചു അവന്റെ സഞ്ചാരം എവിടെയൊക്കെ ആകുന്നു എന്നും അവിടങ്ങളില് അവനെ കണ്ടവര് ആരെല്ലാമെന്നും അറിഞ്ഞുകൊള്വിന് ; അവന് വലിയ ഉപായി ആകുന്നു എന്നു ഞാന് കേട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.

22. Go, I pray you, prepare yet, and know, and see his place where his haunt is, {and} who hath seen him there: for it is told to me {that} he dealeth very subtilly.

23. ആകയാല് അവന് ഒളിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ഒളിപ്പിടങ്ങളെല്ലാം കണ്ടറിഞ്ഞുവന്നു സൂക്ഷ്മവിവരം എന്നെ അറിയിപ്പിന് ; ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ പോരും; അവന് ദേശത്തു എങ്ങാനും ഉണ്ടെന്നു വരികില് ഞാന് അവനെ യെഹൂദാസഹസ്രങ്ങളിലൊക്കെയും അന്വേഷിച്ചു പിടിക്കും.

23. See therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking-places where he hideth himself, and come ye again to me with the certainty, and I will go with you: and it shall come to pass, if he is in the land, that I will search him out throughout all the thousands of Judah.

24. അങ്ങനെ അവര് പുറപ്പെട്ടു ശൌലിന്നു മുമ്പെ സീഫിലേക്കു പോയി; എന്നാല് ദാവീദും അവന്റെ ആളുകളും മരുഭൂമിയുടെ തെക്കു അരാബയിലെ മാവോന് മരുവില് ആയിരുന്നു.

24. And they arose, and went to Ziph before Saul: but David and his men {were} in the wilderness of Maon, in the plain on the south of Jeshimon.

25. ശൌലും അവന്റെ പടജ്ജനവും അവനെ തിരയുവാന് പുറപ്പെട്ടു. അതു ദാവീദിന്നു അറിവു കിട്ടിയപ്പോള് അവന് മാവോന് മരുവിലെ സേലയില് ചെന്നു താമസിച്ചു. ശൌല് അതു കേട്ടപ്പോള് മാവോന് മരുവില് ദാവീദിനെ പിന്തുടര്ന്നു.

25. Saul also and his men went to seek {him}. And they told David: wherefore he came down into a rock, and abode in the wilderness of Maon. And when Saul heard {that}, he pursued after David in the wilderness of Maon.

26. ശൌല് പര്വ്വതത്തിന്റെ ഇപ്പുറത്തും ദാവീദും ആളുകളും പര്വ്വതത്തിന്റെ അപ്പുറത്തുംകൂടി നടന്നു; ശൌലിനെ ഒഴിഞ്ഞുപോകുവാന് ദാവീദ് ബദ്ധപ്പെട്ടു; ശൌലും പടജ്ജനവും ദാവീദിനെയും അവന്റെ ആളുകളെയും വളഞ്ഞുപിടിപ്പാന് അടുത്തു.

26. And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain: and David made haste to get away for fear of Saul; for Saul and his men compassed David and his men around to take them.

27. അപ്പോള് ശൌലിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ഒരു ദൂതന് വന്നുക്ഷണം വരേണം; ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് ദേശത്തെ ആക്രമിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

27. But there came a messenger to Saul, saying, Haste thee, and come; for the Philistines have invaded the land.

28. ഉടനെ ശൌല് ദാവീദിനെ പിന്തുടരുന്നതു വിട്ടു ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ നേരെ പോയി; ആകയാല് ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു സേലഹമ്മാഹ്ളെക്കോത്ത് എന്നു പേരായി.

28. Wherefore Saul returned from pursuing after David, and went against the Philistines: therefore they called that place Sela-hammah-lekoth.

29. ദാവീദോ അവിടം വിട്ടു കയറിപ്പോയി ഏന് -ഗെദിയിലെ ദുര്ഗ്ഗങ്ങളില് ചെന്നു പാര്ത്തു.

29. Then David went up from thence, and dwelt in strong holds at En-gedi.
