1. ശൌല് ഫെലിസ്ത്യരെ ഔടിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞിട്ടു മടങ്ങിവന്നപ്പോള് ദാവീദ് ഏന് -ഗെദിമരുഭൂമിയില് ഉണ്ടെന്നു അവന്നു അറിവു കിട്ടി.

1. And it came to pass, when Saul was returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying, Behold, David is in the wilderness of En�gedi.

2. അപ്പോള് ശൌല് എല്ലായിസ്രായേലില്നിന്നും തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിരുന്ന മൂവായിരംപേരെ കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു ദാവീദിനെയും അവന്റെ ആളുകളെയും തിരയുവാന് കാട്ടാട്ടിന് പാറകളില് ചെന്നു.

2. Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men upon the rocks of the wild goats.

3. അവന് വഴിയരികെയുള്ള ആട്ടിന് തൊഴുത്തിങ്കല് എത്തി; അവിടെ ഒരു ഗുഹ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; ശൌല് കാല്മടക്കത്തിന്നു അതില് കടന്നു; എന്നാല് ദാവീദും അവന്റെ ആളുകളും ഗുഹയുടെ ഉള്ളില് പാര്ത്തിരുന്നു.

3. And he came to the sheepcotes by the way, where was a cave; and Saul went in to cover his feet. Now David and his men were abiding in the innermost parts of the cave.

4. ദാവീദിന്റെ ആളുകള് അവനോടുഞാന് നിന്റെ ശത്രുവിനെ നിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കും; നിനക്കു ബോധിച്ചതുപോലെ അവനോടു ചെയ്യാം എന്നു യഹോവ നിന്നോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്ത ദിവസം ഇതാ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അപ്പോള് ദാവീദ് എഴുന്നേറ്റു ശൌലിന്റെ മേലങ്കിയുടെ അറ്റം പതുക്കെ മുറിച്ചെടുത്തു.

4. And the men of David said unto him, Behold, the day of which the LORD said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, and thou shalt do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul's robe privily.

5. ശൌലിന്റെ വസ്ത്രാഗ്രം മുറിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞതുകൊണ്ടു പിന്നത്തേതില് ദാവീദിന്റെ മനസ്സാക്ഷി കുത്തിത്തുടങ്ങി.

5. And it came to pass afterward, that David's heart smote him because he had cut off Saul's skirt.

6. അവന് തന്റെ ആളുകളോടുയഹോവയുടെ അഭിഷിക്തനായ എന്റെ യജമാനന്റെ നേരെ കയ്യെടുക്കുന്നതായ ഈ കാര്യം ചെയ്വാന് യഹോവ എനിക്കു ഇടവരുത്തരുതേ; അവന് യഹോവയുടെ അഭിഷിക്തനല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

6. And he said unto his men, The LORD forbid that I should do this thing unto my lord, the LORD'S anointed, to put forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the LORD'S anointed.

7. ഇങ്ങനെ ദാവീദ് തന്റെ ആളുകളെ ശാസിച്ചു അമര്ത്തി; ശൌലിനെ ദ്രോഹിപ്പാന് അവരെ അനുവദിച്ചതുമില്ല. ശൌല് ഗുഹയില്നിന്നു എഴുന്നേറ്റു തന്റെ വഴിക്കുപോയി.

7. So David checked his men with these words, and suffered them not to rise against Saul. And Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.

8. ദാവീദും എഴുന്നേറ്റു ഗുഹയില്നിന്നു പുറത്തിറങ്ങി ശൌലിനോടുഎന്റെ യജമാനനായ രാജാവേ എന്നു വിളിച്ചുപറഞ്ഞു. ശൌല് തിരിഞ്ഞുനോക്കിയപ്പോള് ദാവീദ് സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു നമസ്കരിച്ചു.

8. David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and cried after Saul, saying, My lord the king. And when Saul looked behind him, David bowed with his face to the earth, and did obeisance.

9. ദാവീദ് ശൌലിനോടു പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാല്ദാവീദ് നിനക്കു ദോഷം വിചാരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറയുന്നവരുടെ വാക്കു നീ കേള്ക്കുന്നതു എന്തു?

9. And David said to Saul, Wherefore hearkenest thou to men's words, saying, Behold, David seeketh thy hurt?

10. യഹോവ ഇന്നു ഗുഹയില്വെച്ചു നിന്നെ എന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചിരുന്നു എന്നു നിന്റെ കണ്ണാലെ കാണുന്നുവല്ലോ; നിന്നെ കൊല്ലുവാന് ചിലര് പറഞ്ഞെങ്കിലും ഞാന് ചെയ്തില്ല; എന്റെ യജമാനന്റെ നേരെ ഞാന് കയ്യെടുക്കയില്ല; അവന് യഹോവയുടെ അഭിഷിക്തനല്ലോ എന്നു ഞാന് പറഞ്ഞു.

10. Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how that the LORD had delivered thee today into mine hand in the cave: and some bade me kill thee: but mine eye spared thee; and I said, I will not put forth mine hand against my lord; for he is the LORD'S anointed.

11. എന്റെ പിതാവേ, കാണ്ക, എന്റെ കയ്യില് നിന്റെ മേലങ്കിയുടെ അറ്റം ഇതാ കാണ്ക; നിന്റെ മേലങ്കിയുടെ അറ്റം ഞാന് മുറിക്കയും നിന്നെ കൊല്ലാതിരിക്കയും ചെയ്തതിനാല് എന്റെ കയ്യില് ദോഷവും ദ്രോഹവും ഇല്ല; ഞാന് നിന്നോടു പാപം ചെയ്തിട്ടുമില്ല എന്നു കണ്ടറിഞ്ഞുകൊള്ക. നീയോ എനിക്കു പ്രാണഹാനി വരുത്തുവാന് തേടിനടക്കുന്നു.

11. Moreover, my father, see, yea, see the skirt of thy robe in my hand: for in that I cut off the skirt of thy robe, and killed thee not, know thou and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in mine hand, and I have not sinned against thee, though thou huntest after my soul to take it.

12. യഹോവ എനിക്കും നിനക്കും മദ്ധ്യേ ന്യായം വിധിക്കട്ടെ; യഹോവ എനിക്കുവേണ്ടി നിന്നോടു പ്രതികാരം ചെയ്യട്ടെ; എന്നാല് എന്റെ കൈ നിന്റെമേല് വീഴുകയില്ല.

12. The LORD judge between me and thee, and the LORD avenge me of thee: but mine hand shall not be upon thee.

13. ദുഷ്ടത ദുഷ്ടനില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെടുന്നു എന്നല്ലോ പഴഞ്ചൊല് പറയുന്നതു; എന്നാല് എന്റെ കൈ നിന്റെമേല് വീഴുകയില്ല.

13. As saith the proverb of the ancients, Out of the wicked cometh forth wickedness: but mine hand shall not be upon thee.

14. ആരെ തേടിയാകുന്നു യിസ്രായേല്രാജാവു പുറപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നതു? ആരെയാകുന്നു പിന്തുടരുന്നതു? ഒരു ചത്തനായെ, ഒരു ചെള്ളിനെ അല്ലയോ?

14. After whom is the king of Israel come out? after whom dost thou pursue? after a dead dog, after a flea.

15. ആകയാല് യഹോവ ന്യായാധിപനായി എനിക്കും നിനക്കും മദ്ധ്യേ ന്യായം വിധിക്കയും എന്റെ കാര്യം നോക്കി വ്യവഹരിച്ചു എന്നെ നിന്റെ കയ്യില് നിന്നു വിടുവിക്കയും ചെയ്യുമാറാകട്ടെ.

15. The LORD therefore be judge, and give sentence between me and thee, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of thine hand.

16. ദാവീദ് ശൌലിനോടു ഈ വാക്കുകള് സംസാരിച്ചു തീര്ന്നശേഷം ശൌല്എന്റെ മകനേ, ദാവീദേ, ഇതു നിന്റെ ശബ്ദമോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു പൊട്ടിക്കരഞ്ഞു.

16. And it came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking these words unto Saul, that Saul said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept.

17. പിന്നെ അവന് ദാവീദിനോടു പറഞ്ഞതുനീ എന്നെക്കാള് നീതിമാന് ; ഞാന് നിനക്കു തിന്മചെയ്തതിന്നു നീ എനിക്കു നന്മ പകരം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

17. And he said to David, Thou art more righteous than I: for thou hast rendered unto me good, whereas I have rendered unto thee evil.

18. യഹോവ എന്നെ നിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചാറെയും നീ എന്നെ കൊല്ലാതെ വിട്ടതിനാല് നീ എനിക്കു ഗുണം ചെയ്തതായി ഇന്നു കാണിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

18. And thou hast declared this day how that thou hast dealt well with me: forasmuch as when the LORD had delivered me up into thine hand, thou killedst me not.

19. ശത്രുവിനെ കണ്ടുകിട്ടിയാല് ആരെങ്കിലും അവനെ വെറുതെ വിട്ടയക്കുമോ? നീ ഇന്നു എനിക്കു ചെയ്തതിന്നു യഹോവ നിനക്കു നന്മ പകരം ചെയ്യട്ടെ.

19. For if a man find his enemy, will he let him go well away? wherefore the LORD reward thee good for that thou hast done unto me this day.

20. എന്നാല് നീ രാജാവാകും; യിസ്രായേല്രാജത്വം നിന്റെ കയ്യില് സ്ഥിരമാകും എന്നു ഞാന് അറിയുന്നു.

20. And now, behold, I know that thou shalt surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in thine hand.

21. ആകയാല് നീ എന്റെ ശേഷം എന്റെ സന്തതിയെ നിര്മ്മൂലമാക്കി എന്റെ പേര് എന്റെ പിതൃഭവനത്തില് നിന്നു മായിച്ചുകളകയില്ല എന്നു യഹോവയുടെ നാമത്തില് ഇപ്പോള് എന്നോടു സത്യം ചെയ്യേണം.

21. Swear now therefore unto me by the LORD, that thou wilt not cut off my seed after me, and that thou wilt not destroy my name out of my father's house.

22. അങ്ങനെ ദാവീദ് ശൌലിനോടു സത്യം ചെയ്തു; ശൌല് അരമനയിലേക്കു പോയി; ദാവീദും അവന്റെ ആളുകളും ദുര്ഗ്ഗത്തിലേക്കും പോയി.

22. And David sware unto Saul. And Saul went home; but David and his men gat them up unto the hold.
