1. ശമൂവേല്ബാലന് ഏലിയുടെ മുമ്പാകെ യഹോവേക്കു ശുശ്രൂഷ ചെയ്തുപോന്നു; ആ കാലത്തു യഹോവയുടെ വചനം ദുര്ല്ലഭമായിരുന്നു; ദര്ശനം ഏറെ ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു.

1. And the child Samuel ministered to the Lord before Eli the priest. And the word of the Lord was precious in those days, there was no distinct vision.

2. ആ കാലത്തു ഒരിക്കല് ഏലി തന്റെ സ്ഥലത്തു കിടന്നുറങ്ങി; കാണ്മാന് വഹിയാതവണ്ണം അവന്റെ കണ്ണു മങ്ങിത്തുടങ്ങിയിരുന്നു.

2. And it came to pass at that time that Eli was sleeping in his place; and his eyes began to fail, and could not see.

3. ശമൂവേല് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം ഇരിക്കുന്ന യഹോവയുടെ മന്ദിരത്തില് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ വിളകൂ കെടുന്നതിന്നു മുമ്പെ ചെന്നു കിടന്നു.

3. And the lamp of God [was burning] before it was trimmed, and Samuel slept in the temple, where the ark of God was.

4. യഹോവ ശമൂവേലിനെ വിളിച്ചുഅടിയന് എന്നു അവന് വിളികേട്ടു ഏലിയുടെ അടുക്കല് ഔടിച്ചെന്നുഅടിയന് ഇതാ; എന്നെ വിളിച്ചുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

4. And the Lord called, Samuel, Samuel; and he said, Behold, [here] [am] I.

5. ഞാന് വിളിച്ചില്ല; പോയി കിടന്നുകൊള്ക എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു; അവന് പോയി കിടന്നു.

5. And he ran to Eli and said, [Here] [am] I, for you called me. And he said, I did not call you; return, go to sleep. And he returned and went to sleep.

6. യഹോവ പിന്നെയുംശമൂവേലേ എന്നു വിളിച്ചു. ശമൂവേല് എഴന്നേറ്റു ഏലിയുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നുഅടിയന് ഇതാ; എന്നെ വിളിച്ചുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ഞാന് വിളിച്ചില്ല, മകനേ; പോയി കിടന്നുകൊള്ക എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

6. And the Lord called again, Samuel, Samuel; and he went to Eli the second time, and said, Behold [here] [am] I, for you called me. And he said, I did not call you; return, go to sleep.

7. ശമൂവേല് അന്നുവരെ യഹോവയെ അറിഞ്ഞില്ല; യഹോവയുടെ വചനം അവന്നു അന്നുവരെ വെളിപ്പെട്ടതുമില്ല.

7. And [this was] before Samuel knew the Lord, and [before] the word of the Lord was revealed to him.

8. യഹോവ ശമൂവേലിനെ മൂന്നാം പ്രാവശ്യം വിളിച്ചു. അവന് എഴുന്നേറ്റു ഏലിയുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നുഅടിയന് ഇതാ; എന്നെ വിളിച്ചുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അപ്പോള് യഹോവയായിരുന്നു ബാലനെ വിളിച്ചതു എന്നു ഏലിക്കു മനസ്സിലായി.

8. And the Lord called Samuel again for the third time; and he arose and went to Eli, and said, Behold, I [am here], for you called me. And Eli perceived that the Lord had called the child.

9. ഏലി ശമൂവേലിനോടുപോയി കിടന്നുകൊള്ക; ഇനിയും നിന്നെ വിളിച്ചാല്യഹോവേ, അരുളിച്ചെയ്യേണമേ; അടിയന് കേള്ക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു കൊള്ളേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ ശമൂവേല് തന്റെ സ്ഥലത്തു ചെന്നുകിടന്നു.

9. And he said, Return, child, go to sleep; and it shall come to pass if He shall call you, that you shall say, Speak, for Your servant hears. And Samuel went and lay down in his place.

10. അപ്പോള് യഹോവ വന്നുനിന്നു മുമ്പിലത്തെപ്പോലെശമൂവേലേ, ശമൂവേലേ, എന്നു വിളിച്ചു. അതിന്നു ശമൂവേല്അരുളിച്ചെയ്യേണമേ; അടിയന് കേള്ക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. And the Lord came, and stood, and called him as before. And Samuel said, Speak, for Your servant hears.

11. യഹോവ ശമൂവേലിനോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതുഇതാ, ഞാന് യിസ്രായേലില് ഒരു കാര്യം ചെയ്യും; അതു കേള്ക്കുന്നവന്റെ ചെവി രണ്ടും മുഴങ്ങും.

11. And the Lord said to Samuel, Behold, I execute My words in Israel; whoever hears them, both his ears shall tingle.

12. ഞാന് ഏലിയുടെ ഭവനത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതൊക്കെയും ഞാന് അന്നു അവന്റെമേല് ആദ്യന്തം നിവര്ത്തിക്കും.

12. In that day I will raise up against Eli all things that I have said against his house; I will begin, and I will make an end.

13. അവന്റെ പുത്രന്മാര് ദൈവദൂഷണം പറയുന്ന അകൃത്യം അവന് അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടും അവരെ ശാസിച്ചമര്ത്തായ്കകൊണ്ടു ഞാന് അവന്റെ ഭവനത്തിന്നു എന്നേക്കും ശിക്ഷവിധിക്കും എന്നു ഞാന് അവനോടു കല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

13. And I have told him that I will be avenged on his house perpetually for the iniquities of his sons, because his sons spoke evil against God, and he did not admonish them.

14. ഏലിയുടെ ഭവനത്തിന്റെ അകൃത്യത്തിന്നു യാഗത്താലും വഴിപാടിനാലും ഒരു നാളും പരിഹാരം വരികയില്ല എന്നു ഞാന് ഏലിയുടെ ഭവനത്തോടു സത്യംചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

14. And [it shall] not [go on] so; I have sworn to the house of Eli, the iniquity of the house of Eli shall not be atoned for with incense or sacrifices forever.

15. പിന്നെ ശമൂവേല് രാവിലെവരെ കിടന്നുറങ്ങി; രാവിലെ യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിന്റെ വാതിലുകളെ തുറന്നു. എന്നാല് ഈ ദര്ശനം ഏലിയെ അറിയിപ്പാന് ശമൂവേല് ശങ്കിച്ചു.

15. And Samuel slept till morning, and rose early in the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the Lord; and Samuel feared to tell [Eli] the vision.

16. ഏലി ശമൂവേലിനെ വിളിച്ചുശമൂവേലേ, മകനേ, എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അടിയന് ഇതാ എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

16. And Eli said to Samuel, Samuel, [my] son; and he said, Behold, [here am] I.

17. അപ്പോള് അവന് നിനക്കുണ്ടായ അരുളപ്പാടു എന്തു? എന്നെ ഒന്നും മറെക്കരുതേ; നിന്നോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്ത സകലത്തിലും ഒരു വാക്കെങ്കിലും മറെച്ചാല് ദൈവം നിന്നോടു തക്കവണ്ണവും അധികവും ചെയ്യട്ടേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

17. And he said, What was the word that was spoken to you? I pray you do not hide it from me: may God do these things to you, and more also, if you hide from me anything of all the words that were spoken to you in your ears.

18. അങ്ങനെ ശമൂവേല് സകലവും അവനെ അറിയിച്ചു; ഒന്നും മറെച്ചില്ല. എന്നാറെ അവന് യഹോവയല്ലോ; തന്റെ ഇഷ്ടംപോലെ ചെയ്യട്ടേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

18. And Samuel reported all the words, and did not hide them from him. And Eli said, He is the Lord, He shall do that which is good in His sight.

19. എന്നാല് ശമൂവേല് വളര്ന്നു, യഹോവ അവനോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന്റെ വചനങ്ങളില് ഒന്നും നിഷ്ഫലമാകുവാന് ഇടവരുത്തിയില്ല.

19. And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him, and there did not fall one of his words to the ground.

20. ദാന് മുതല് ബേര്-ശേബാവരെ ഉള്ള യിസ്രായേലൊക്കെയും ശമൂവേല് യഹോവയുടെ വിശ്വസ്തപ്രവാചകന് എന്നു ഗ്രഹിച്ചു.

20. And all Israel knew, from Dan even to Beersheba, that Samuel was faithful as a prophet to the Lord.

21. ഇങ്ങനെ യഹോവ ശീലോവില് വെച്ചു ശമൂവേലിന്നു യഹോവയുടെ വചനത്താല് വെളിപ്പെട്ടശേഷം യഹോവ വീണ്ടും വീണ്ടും ശീലോവില്വെച്ചു പ്രത്യക്ഷനായി.

21. And the Lord manifested Himself again in Shiloh, for the Lord revealed Himself to Samuel; and Samuel was accredited to all Israel as a prophet to the Lord from one end of the land to the other. And Eli [was] very old, and his sons kept advancing [in wickedness], and their way [was] evil before the Lord.
