1. അനന്തരം ദൈവം യാക്കോബിനോടുനീ പുറപ്പെട്ടു ബേഥേലില് ചെന്നു പാര്ക്ക; നിന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ഏശാവിന്റെ മുമ്പില്നിന്നു നീ ഔടിപ്പോകുമ്പോള് നിനക്കു പ്രത്യക്ഷനായ ദൈവത്തിന്നു അവിടെ ഒരു യാഗപീഠം ഉണ്ടാക്കുക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

1. God said to Jacob, 'Move on, go to Bethel and settle there. Make an altar there for the God who appeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau.'

2. അപ്പോള് യാക്കോബ് തന്റെ കുടുംബത്തോടും കൂടെയുള്ള എല്ലാവരോടുംനിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയിലുള്ള അന്യദേവന്മാരെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു നിങ്ങളെ ശുദ്ധീകരിച്ചു വസ്ത്രം മാറുവിന് .

2. Jacob said to his family and to all who were with him, 'Get rid of the foreign gods you have with you; cleanse yourselves, and change your clothes.

3. നാം പുറപ്പെട്ടു ബേഥേലിലേക്കു പോക; എന്റെ കഷ്ടകാലത്തു എന്റെ പ്രാര്ത്ഥന കേള്ക്കയും ഞാന് പോയ വഴിയില് എന്നോടു കൂടെയിരിക്കയും ചെയ്ത ദൈവത്തിന്നു ഞാന് അവിടെ ഒരു യാഗപീഠം ഉണ്ടാക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

3. We must move on and go to Bethel. There I shall make an altar for the God who heard me when I was in distress, and gave me his help on the journey I made.'

4. അങ്ങനെ അവര് തങ്ങളുടെ പക്കലുള്ള അന്യദേവന്മാരെ ഒക്കെയും കാതുകളിലെ കുണുക്കുകളെയും യാക്കോബിന്റെ പക്കല് കൊടുത്തു; യാക്കോബ് അവയെ ശെഖേമിന്നരികെയുള്ള കരുവേലകത്തിന് കീഴില് കുഴിച്ചിട്ടു.

4. They gave Jacob all the foreign gods in their possession, and the earrings that they were wearing. Jacob buried them under the oak tree near Shechem.

5. പിന്നെ അവര് യാത്രപുറപ്പെട്ടു; അവരുടെ ചുറ്റുമിരുന്ന പട്ടണങ്ങളുടെ മേല് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ഭീതി വീണതു കൊണ്ടു യാക്കോബിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരെ ആരും പിന്തുടര്ന്നില്ല.

5. They broke camp; a divine terror struck the towns round about, and no one pursued the sons of Jacob.

6. യാക്കോബും കൂടെയുള്ള ജനമൊക്കെയും കനാന് ദേശത്തിലെ ലൂസ് എന്ന ബേഥേലില് എത്തി.

6. When Jacob arrived at Luz in Canaan -- that is, Bethel-and all the people with him,

7. അവിടെ അവന് ഒരു യാഗപീഠം പണിതു; തന്റെ സഹോദരന്റെ മുമ്പില്നിന്നു ഔടിപ്പോകുമ്പോള് അവന്നു അവിടെവെച്ചു ദൈവം പ്രത്യക്ഷനായതുകൊണ്ടു അവന് ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു ഏല്-ബേഥേല് എന്നു പേര് വിളിച്ചു.

7. he built an altar there and named the place El-Bethel, since it was there that God had appeared to him when he was fleeing from his brother.

8. റിബെക്കയുടെ ധാത്രിയായ ദെബോരാ മരിച്ചു, അവളെ ബേഥേലിന്നു താഴെ ഒരു കരുവേലകത്തിന് കീഴില് അടക്കി; അതിന്നു അല്ലോന് -ബാഖൂത്ത് (വിലാപവൃക്ഷം)എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

8. Deborah, who had been Rebekah's nurse, died and was buried below Bethel, under the oak tree; so they named it the Oak of Tears.

9. യാക്കോബ് പദ്ദന് -അരാമില്നിന്നു വന്ന ശേഷം ദൈവം അവന്നു പിന്നെയും പ്രത്യക്ഷനായി അവനെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു.

9. God again appeared to Jacob on his return from Paddan-Aram, and blessed him.

10. ദൈവം അവനോടുനിന്റെ പേര് യാക്കോബ് എന്നല്ലോ; ഇനി നിനക്കു യാക്കോബ് എന്നല്ല യിസ്രായേല് എന്നു തന്നെ പേരാകേണം എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു അവന്നു യിസ്രായേല് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

10. God said to him, 'Your name is Jacob, but from now on you will be called not Jacob but Israel.' Thus he came by the name Israel.

11. ദൈവം പിന്നെയും അവനോടുഞാന് സര്വ്വശക്തിയുള്ള ദൈവം ആകുന്നു; നീ സന്താനപുഷ്ടിയുള്ളവനായി പെരുകുക; ഒരു ജാതിയും ജാതികളുടെ കൂട്ടവും നിന്നില് നിന്നു ഉത്ഭവിക്കും; രാജാക്കന്മാരും നിന്റെ കടിപ്രദേശത്തു നിന്നു പുറപ്പെടും.

11. God said to him, 'I am El Shaddai. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation, indeed an assembly of nations, will descend from you, and kings will issue from your loins.

12. ഞാന് അബ്രാഹാമിന്നും യിസ്ഹാക്കിന്നും കൊടുത്തദേശം നിനക്കു തരും; നിന്റെ ശേഷം നിന്റെ സന്തതിക്കും ഈ ദേശം കൊടുക്കും എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

12. The country which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I now give to you; and this country I shall give to your descendants after you.'

13. അവനോടു സംസാരിച്ച സ്ഥലത്തുനിന്നു ദൈവം അവനെ വിട്ടു കയറിപ്പോയി.

13. Then God went up from him.

14. അവന് തന്നോടു സംസാരിച്ചേടത്തു യാക്കോബ് ഒരു കല്ത്തൂണ് നിര്ത്തി; അതിന്മേല് ഒരു പാനീയയാഗം ഒഴിച്ചു എണ്ണയും പകര്ന്നു.

14. Jacob raised a monument at the spot where he had spoken to him, a standing-stone, on which he made a libation and poured oil.

15. ദൈവം തന്നോടു സംസാരിച്ച സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു യാക്കോബ് ബേഥേല് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

15. Jacob named the place Bethel where God had spoken to him.

16. അവര് ബേഥേലില്നിന്നു യാത്ര പുറപ്പെട്ടു, എഫ്രാത്തയില് എത്തുവാന് അല്പദൂരം മാത്രമുള്ളപ്പോള് റാഹേല് പ്രസവിച്ചു; പ്രസവിക്കുമ്പോള് അവള്ക്കു കഠിന വേദനയുണ്ടായി.

16. They left Bethel, and while they were still some distance from Ephrath, Rachel went into labour, and her pains were severe.

17. അങ്ങനെ പ്രസവത്തില് അവള്ക്കു കഠിനവേദനയായിരിക്കുമ്പോള് സൂതികര്മ്മിണി അവളോടുഭയപ്പെടേണ്ടാ; ഇതും ഒരു മകനായിരിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

17. When her labour was at its hardest, the midwife said to her, 'Do not worry, this is going to be another boy.'

18. എന്നാല് അവള് മരിച്ചുപോയി; ജീവന് പോകുന്ന സമയം അവള് അവന്നു ബെനോനീ എന്നു പേര് ഇട്ടു; അവന്റെ അപ്പനോ അവന്നു ബെന്യാമീന് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

18. At the moment when she breathed her last, for she was dying, she named him Ben-Oni. His father, however, named him Benjamin.

19. റാഹേല് മരിച്ചിട്ടു അവളെ ബേത്ത്ളേഹെം എന്ന എഫ്രാത്തിന്നു പോകുന്ന വഴിയില് അടക്കം ചെയ്തു.

19. So Rachel died and was buried on the road to Ephrath, now Bethlehem.

20. അവളുടെ കല്ലറയിന്മേല് യാക്കോബ് ഒരു തൂണ് നിര്ത്തി അതു റാഹേലിന്റെ കല്ലറത്തൂണ് എന്ന പോരോടെ ഇന്നുവരെയും നിലക്കുന്നു.

20. Jacob raised a monument on her grave, that same monument of Rachel's Tomb which is there today.

21. പിന്നെ യിസ്രായേല് യാത്ര പുറപ്പെട്ടു, ഏദെര്ഗോപുരത്തിന്നു അപ്പുറം കൂടാരം അടിച്ചു.

21. Israel left and pitched his tent beyond Migdal-Eder.

22. യിസ്രായേല് ആ ദേശത്തു പാര്ത്തിരിക്കുമ്പോള് രൂബേന് ചെന്നു തന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ വെപ്പാട്ടിയായ ബില്ഹയോടുകൂടെ ശയിച്ചു; യിസ്രായേല് അതുകേട്ടു.

22. While Israel was living in that district, Reuben went and slept with Bilhah his father's concubine, and Israel found out. The sons of Jacob were now twelve.

23. യാക്കോബിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാര് പന്ത്രണ്ടു പേരായിരുന്നു. ലേയയുടെ പുത്രന്മാര്യാക്കോബിന്റെ ആദ്യജാതന് രൂബേന് , ശിമെയോന് , ലേവി, യെഹൂദാ, യിസ്സാഖാര്, സെബൂലൂന് .

23. The sons of Leah: Jacob's eldest son Reuben, then Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar and Zebulun.

24. റാഹേലിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാര്യോസേഫും ബെന്യാമീനും.

24. The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.

25. റാഹേലിന്റെ ദാസിയായ ബില്ഹയുടെ പുത്രന്മാര്ദാനും നഫ്താലിയും.

25. The sons of Bilhah, Rachel's slave-girl: Dan and Naphtali.

26. ലേയയുടെ ദാസിയായ സില്പയുടെ പുത്രന്മാര് ഗാദും ആശേരും. ഇവര് യാക്കോബിന്നു പദ്ദന് -അരാമില്വെച്ചു ജനിച്ച പുത്രന്മാര്.

26. The sons of Zilpah, Leah's slave-girl: Gad and Asher. These were the sons born to Jacob in Paddan-Aram.

27. പിന്നെ യാക്കോബ് കിര്യാത്തര്ബ്ബാ എന്ന മമ്രേയില് തന്റെ അപ്പനായ യിസ്ഹാക്കിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു; അബ്രാഹാമും യിസ്ഹാക്കും പാര്ത്തിരുന്നഹെബ്രോന് ഇതു തന്നേ.

27. Jacob came home to his father Isaac at Mamre, at Kiriath-Arba -- now Hebron -- where Abraham and Isaac had stayed.

28. യിസ്ഹാക്കിന്റെ ആയുസ്സു നൂറ്റെണ്പതു സംവത്സരമായിരുന്നു.

28. Isaac was one hundred and eighty years old

29. യിസ്ഹാക് വയോധികനും കാലസമ്പൂര്ണ്ണനുമായി പ്രാണനെ വിട്ടു മരിച്ചു തന്റെ ജനത്തോടു ചേര്ന്നു; അവന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരായ ഏശാവും യാക്കോബും കൂടി അവനെ അടക്കംചെയ്തു.

29. when he breathed his last. He died and was gathered to his people, an old man who had enjoyed his full span of life. His sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
