1. അനന്തരം ദൈവം യാക്കോബിനോടുനീ പുറപ്പെട്ടു ബേഥേലില് ചെന്നു പാര്ക്ക; നിന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ഏശാവിന്റെ മുമ്പില്നിന്നു നീ ഔടിപ്പോകുമ്പോള് നിനക്കു പ്രത്യക്ഷനായ ദൈവത്തിന്നു അവിടെ ഒരു യാഗപീഠം ഉണ്ടാക്കുക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

1. God said to Jacob, 'Go to Bethel at once, and live there. Build an altar there to me, the God who appeared to you when you were running away from your brother Esau.'

2. അപ്പോള് യാക്കോബ് തന്റെ കുടുംബത്തോടും കൂടെയുള്ള എല്ലാവരോടുംനിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയിലുള്ള അന്യദേവന്മാരെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു നിങ്ങളെ ശുദ്ധീകരിച്ചു വസ്ത്രം മാറുവിന് .

2. So Jacob said to his family and to all who were with him, 'Get rid of the foreign gods that you have; purify yourselves and put on clean clothes.

3. We are going to leave here and go to Bethel, where I will build an altar to the God who helped me in the time of my trouble and who has been with me everywhere I have gone.'

4. So they gave Jacob all the foreign gods that they had and also the earrings that they were wearing. He buried them beneath the oak tree near Shechem.

5. പിന്നെ അവര് യാത്രപുറപ്പെട്ടു; അവരുടെ ചുറ്റുമിരുന്ന പട്ടണങ്ങളുടെ മേല് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ഭീതി വീണതു കൊണ്ടു യാക്കോബിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരെ ആരും പിന്തുടര്ന്നില്ല.

5. When Jacob and his sons started to leave, great fear fell on the people of the nearby towns, and they did not pursue them.

6. യാക്കോബും കൂടെയുള്ള ജനമൊക്കെയും കനാന് ദേശത്തിലെ ലൂസ് എന്ന ബേഥേലില് എത്തി.

6. Jacob came with all his people to Luz, which is now known as Bethel, in the land of Canaan.

7. അവിടെ അവന് ഒരു യാഗപീഠം പണിതു; തന്റെ സഹോദരന്റെ മുമ്പില്നിന്നു ഔടിപ്പോകുമ്പോള് അവന്നു അവിടെവെച്ചു ദൈവം പ്രത്യക്ഷനായതുകൊണ്ടു അവന് ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു ഏല്-ബേഥേല് എന്നു പേര് വിളിച്ചു.

7. He built an altar there and named the place for the God of Bethel, because God had revealed himself to him there when he was running away from his brother.

8. റിബെക്കയുടെ ധാത്രിയായ ദെബോരാ മരിച്ചു, അവളെ ബേഥേലിന്നു താഴെ ഒരു കരുവേലകത്തിന് കീഴില് അടക്കി; അതിന്നു അല്ലോന് -ബാഖൂത്ത് (വിലാപവൃക്ഷം)എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

8. Rebecca's nurse Deborah died and was buried beneath the oak south of Bethel. So it was named 'Oak of Weeping.'

9. യാക്കോബ് പദ്ദന് -അരാമില്നിന്നു വന്ന ശേഷം ദൈവം അവന്നു പിന്നെയും പ്രത്യക്ഷനായി അവനെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു.

9. When Jacob returned from Mesopotamia, God appeared to him again and blessed him.

10. ദൈവം അവനോടുനിന്റെ പേര് യാക്കോബ് എന്നല്ലോ; ഇനി നിനക്കു യാക്കോബ് എന്നല്ല യിസ്രായേല് എന്നു തന്നെ പേരാകേണം എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു അവന്നു യിസ്രായേല് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

10. God said to him, 'Your name is Jacob, but from now on it will be Israel.' So God named him Israel.

11. ദൈവം പിന്നെയും അവനോടുഞാന് സര്വ്വശക്തിയുള്ള ദൈവം ആകുന്നു; നീ സന്താനപുഷ്ടിയുള്ളവനായി പെരുകുക; ഒരു ജാതിയും ജാതികളുടെ കൂട്ടവും നിന്നില് നിന്നു ഉത്ഭവിക്കും; രാജാക്കന്മാരും നിന്റെ കടിപ്രദേശത്തു നിന്നു പുറപ്പെടും.

11. And God said to him, 'I am Almighty God. Have many children. Nations will be descended from you, and you will be the ancestor of kings.

12. ഞാന് അബ്രാഹാമിന്നും യിസ്ഹാക്കിന്നും കൊടുത്തദേശം നിനക്കു തരും; നിന്റെ ശേഷം നിന്റെ സന്തതിക്കും ഈ ദേശം കൊടുക്കും എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

12. I will give you the land which I gave to Abraham and to Isaac, and I will also give it to your descendants after you.'

13. Then God left him.

14. അവന് തന്നോടു സംസാരിച്ചേടത്തു യാക്കോബ് ഒരു കല്ത്തൂണ് നിര്ത്തി; അതിന്മേല് ഒരു പാനീയയാഗം ഒഴിച്ചു എണ്ണയും പകര്ന്നു.

14. There, where God had spoken to him, Jacob set up a memorial stone and consecrated it by pouring wine and olive oil on it.

15. ദൈവം തന്നോടു സംസാരിച്ച സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു യാക്കോബ് ബേഥേല് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

15. He named the place Bethel.

16. അവര് ബേഥേലില്നിന്നു യാത്ര പുറപ്പെട്ടു, എഫ്രാത്തയില് എത്തുവാന് അല്പദൂരം മാത്രമുള്ളപ്പോള് റാഹേല് പ്രസവിച്ചു; പ്രസവിക്കുമ്പോള് അവള്ക്കു കഠിന വേദനയുണ്ടായി.

16. Jacob and his family left Bethel, and when they were still some distance from Ephrath, the time came for Rachel to have her baby, and she was having difficult labor.

17. അങ്ങനെ പ്രസവത്തില് അവള്ക്കു കഠിനവേദനയായിരിക്കുമ്പോള് സൂതികര്മ്മിണി അവളോടുഭയപ്പെടേണ്ടാ; ഇതും ഒരു മകനായിരിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

17. When her labor pains were at their worst, the midwife said to her, 'Don't be afraid, Rachel; it's another boy.'

18. എന്നാല് അവള് മരിച്ചുപോയി; ജീവന് പോകുന്ന സമയം അവള് അവന്നു ബെനോനീ എന്നു പേര് ഇട്ടു; അവന്റെ അപ്പനോ അവന്നു ബെന്യാമീന് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

18. But she was dying, and as she breathed her last, she named her son Benoni, but his father named him Benjamin.

19. റാഹേല് മരിച്ചിട്ടു അവളെ ബേത്ത്ളേഹെം എന്ന എഫ്രാത്തിന്നു പോകുന്ന വഴിയില് അടക്കം ചെയ്തു.

19. When Rachel died, she was buried beside the road to Ephrath, now known as Bethlehem.

20. അവളുടെ കല്ലറയിന്മേല് യാക്കോബ് ഒരു തൂണ് നിര്ത്തി അതു റാഹേലിന്റെ കല്ലറത്തൂണ് എന്ന പോരോടെ ഇന്നുവരെയും നിലക്കുന്നു.

20. Jacob set up a memorial stone there, and it still marks Rachel's grave to this day.

21. പിന്നെ യിസ്രായേല് യാത്ര പുറപ്പെട്ടു, ഏദെര്ഗോപുരത്തിന്നു അപ്പുറം കൂടാരം അടിച്ചു.

21. Jacob moved on and set up his camp on the other side of the tower of Eder.

22. യിസ്രായേല് ആ ദേശത്തു പാര്ത്തിരിക്കുമ്പോള് രൂബേന് ചെന്നു തന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ വെപ്പാട്ടിയായ ബില്ഹയോടുകൂടെ ശയിച്ചു; യിസ്രായേല് അതുകേട്ടു.

22. While Jacob was living in that land, Reuben had sexual intercourse with Bilhah, one of his father's concubines; Jacob heard about it and was furious. Jacob had twelve sons.

23. യാക്കോബിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാര് പന്ത്രണ്ടു പേരായിരുന്നു. ലേയയുടെ പുത്രന്മാര്യാക്കോബിന്റെ ആദ്യജാതന് രൂബേന് , ശിമെയോന് , ലേവി, യെഹൂദാ, യിസ്സാഖാര്, സെബൂലൂന് .

23. The sons of Leah were Reuben (Jacob's oldest son), Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.

24. റാഹേലിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാര്യോസേഫും ബെന്യാമീനും.

24. The sons of Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin.

25. റാഹേലിന്റെ ദാസിയായ ബില്ഹയുടെ പുത്രന്മാര്ദാനും നഫ്താലിയും.

25. The sons of Rachel's slave Bilhah were Dan and Naphtali.

26. ലേയയുടെ ദാസിയായ സില്പയുടെ പുത്രന്മാര് ഗാദും ആശേരും. ഇവര് യാക്കോബിന്നു പദ്ദന് -അരാമില്വെച്ചു ജനിച്ച പുത്രന്മാര്.

26. The sons of Leah's slave Zilpah were Gad and Asher. These sons were born in Mesopotamia.

27. പിന്നെ യാക്കോബ് കിര്യാത്തര്ബ്ബാ എന്ന മമ്രേയില് തന്റെ അപ്പനായ യിസ്ഹാക്കിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു; അബ്രാഹാമും യിസ്ഹാക്കും പാര്ത്തിരുന്നഹെബ്രോന് ഇതു തന്നേ.

27. Jacob went to his father Isaac at Mamre, near Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac had lived.

28. യിസ്ഹാക്കിന്റെ ആയുസ്സു നൂറ്റെണ്പതു സംവത്സരമായിരുന്നു.

28. Isaac lived to be a hundred and eighty years old

29. യിസ്ഹാക് വയോധികനും കാലസമ്പൂര്ണ്ണനുമായി പ്രാണനെ വിട്ടു മരിച്ചു തന്റെ ജനത്തോടു ചേര്ന്നു; അവന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരായ ഏശാവും യാക്കോബും കൂടി അവനെ അടക്കംചെയ്തു.

29. and died at a ripe old age; and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
