1. അനന്തരം മനുഷ്യന് തന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ ഹവ്വയെ പരിഗ്രഹിച്ചു; അവള് ഗര്ഭംധരിച്ചു കയീനെ പ്രസവിച്ചുയഹോവയാല് എനിക്കു ഒരു പുരുഷപ്രജ ലഭിച്ചു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

1. Now the man had relations with his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain, and she said, 'I have gotten a manchild with [the help of] the LORD.'

2. പിന്നെ അവള് അവന്റെ അനുജനായ ഹാബെലിനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു. ഹാബെല് ആട്ടിടയനും കയീന് കൃഷിക്കാരനും ആയിത്തീര്ന്നു.

2. Again, she gave birth to his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of flocks, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

3. കുറെക്കാലം കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു കയീന് നിലത്തെ അനുഭവത്തില്നിന്നു യഹോവേക്കു ഒരു വഴിപാടു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു.

3. So it came about in the course of time that Cain brought an offering to the LORD of the fruit of the ground.

4. ഹാബെലും ആട്ടിന് കൂട്ടത്തിലെ കടിഞ്ഞൂലുകളില്നിന്നു, അവയുടെ മേദസ്സില്നിന്നു തന്നേ, ഒരു വഴിപാടു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു. യഹോവ ഹാബെലിലും വഴിപാടിലും പ്രസാദിച്ചു.

4. Abel, on his part also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of their fat portions. And the LORD had regard for Abel and for his offering;

5. കയീനിലും അവന്റെ വഴിപാടിലും പ്രസാദിച്ചില്ല. കയീന്നു ഏറ്റവും കോപമുണ്ടായി, അവന്റെ മുഖം വാടി.

5. but for Cain and for his offering He had no regard. So Cain became very angry and his countenance fell.

6. എന്നാറെ യഹോവ കയീനോടുനീ കോപിക്കുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു? നിന്റെ മുഖം വാടുന്നതും എന്തു?

6. Then the LORD said to Cain, 'Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen?

7. നീ നന്മചെയ്യുന്നു എങ്കില് പ്രസാദമുണ്ടാകയില്ലയോ? നീ നന്മ ചെയ്യുന്നില്ലെങ്കിലോ പാപം വാതില്ക്കല് കിടക്കുന്നു; അതിന്റെ ആഗ്രഹം നിങ്കലേക്കു ആകുന്നു; നീയോ അതിനെ കീഴടക്കേണം എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

7. 'If you do well, will not [your countenance] be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it.'

8. എന്നാറെ കയീന് തന്റെ അനുജനായ ഹാബെലിനോടു(നാം വയലിലേക്കു പോക എന്നു) പറഞ്ഞു. അവര് വയലില് ഇരിക്കുമ്പോള് കയീന് തന്റെ അനുജനായ ഹാബെലിനോടു കയര്ത്തു അവനെ കൊന്നു.

8. Cain told Abel his brother. And it came about when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.

9. പിന്നെ യഹോവ കയീനോടുനിന്റെ അനുജനായ ഹാബെല് എവിടെ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുഞാന് അറിയുന്നില്ല; ഞാന് എന്റെ അനുജന്റെ കാവല്ക്കാരനോ എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

9. Then the LORD said to Cain, 'Where is Abel your brother?' And he said, 'I do not know. Am I my brother's keeper?'

10. അതിന്നു അവന് അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതു. നീ എന്തു ചെയ്തു? നിന്റെ അനുജന്റെ രക്തത്തിന്റെ ശബ്ദം ഭൂമിയില് നിന്നു എന്നോടു നിലവിളിക്കുന്നു.

10. He said, 'What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood is crying to Me from the ground.

11. ഇപ്പോള് നിന്റെ അനുജന്റെ രക്തം നിന്റെ കയ്യില് നിന്നു ഏറ്റുകൊള്വാന് വായിതുറന്ന ദേശം നീ വിട്ടു ശാപഗ്രസ്തനായി പോകേണം.

11. 'Now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand.

12. നീ കൃഷി ചെയ്യുമ്പോള് നിലം ഇനിമേലാല് തന്റെ വീര്യം നിനക്കു തരികയില്ല; നീ ഭൂമിയില് ഉഴന്നലയുന്നവന് ആകും.

12. 'When you cultivate the ground, it will no longer yield its strength to you; you will be a vagrant and a wanderer on the earth.'

13. കയീന് യഹോവയോടുഎന്റെ കുറ്റം പൊറുപ്പാന് കഴിയുന്നതിനെക്കാള് വലിയതാകുന്നു.

13. Cain said to the LORD, 'My punishment is too great to bear!

14. ഇതാ, നീ ഇന്നു എന്നെ ആട്ടിക്കളയുന്നു; ഞാന് തിരുസന്നിധിവിട്ടു ഒളിച്ചു ഭൂമിയില് ഉഴന്നലയുന്നവന് ആകും; ആരെങ്കിലും എന്നെ കണ്ടാല്, എന്നെ കൊല്ലും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

14. 'Behold, You have driven me this day from the face of the ground; and from Your face I will be hidden, and I will be a vagrant and a wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me.'

15. യഹോവ അവനോടുഅതുകൊണ്ടു ആരെങ്കിലും കയീനെ കൊന്നാല് അവന്നു ഏഴിരട്ടി പകരം കിട്ടും എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു; കയീനെ കാണുന്നവര് ആരും കൊല്ലാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു യഹോവ അവന്നു ഒരു അടയാളം വെച്ചു.

15. So the LORD said to him, 'Therefore whoever kills Cain, vengeance will be taken on him sevenfold.' And the LORD appointed a sign for Cain, so that no one finding him would slay him.

16. അങ്ങനെ കയീന് യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു ഏദെന്നു കിഴക്കു നോദ് ദേശത്തു ചെന്നു പാര്ത്തു.

16. Then Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.

17. കയീന് തന്റെ ഭാര്യയെ പരിഗ്രഹിച്ചു; അവള് ഗര്ഭം ധരിച്ചു ഹാനോക്കിനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു. അവന് ഒരു പട്ടണം പണിതു, ഹാനോക് എന്നു തന്റെ മകന്റെ പേരിട്ടു.

17. Cain had relations with his wife and she conceived, and gave birth to Enoch; and he built a city, and called the name of the city Enoch, after the name of his son.

18. ഹാനോക്കിന്നു ഈരാദ് ജനിച്ചു; ഈരാദ് മെഹൂയയേലിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചു; മെഹൂയയേല് മെഥൂശയേലിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചു; മെഥൂശയേല് ലാമെക്കിനെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചു.

18. Now to Enoch was born Irad, and Irad became the father of Mehujael, and Mehujael became the father of Methushael, and Methushael became the father of Lamech.

19. ലാമെക് രണ്ടു ഭാര്യമാരെ എടുത്തു; ഒരുത്തിക്കു ആദാ എന്നും മറ്റവള്ക്കു സില്ലാ എന്നും പേര്.

19. Lamech took to himself two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other, Zillah.

20. ആദാ യാബാലിനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു; അവന് കൂടാരവാസികള്ക്കും പശുപാലകന്മാര്ക്കും പിതാവായ്തീര്ന്നു.

20. Adah gave birth to Jabal; he was the father of those who dwell in tents and [have] livestock.

21. അവന്റെ സഹോദരന്നു യൂബാല് എന്നു പേര്. ഇവന് കിന്നരവും വേണുവും പ്രയോഗിക്കുന്ന എല്ലാവര്ക്കും പിതാവായ്തീര്ന്നു.

21. His brother's name was Jubal; he was the father of all those who play the lyre and pipe.

22. സില്ലാ തൂബല്കയീനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു; അവന് ചെമ്പുകൊണ്ടും ഇരിമ്പുകൊണ്ടുമുള്ള ആയുധങ്ങളെ തീര്ക്കുംന്നവനായ്തീര്ന്നു; തൂബല്കയീന്റെ പെങ്ങള് നയമാ.

22. As for Zillah, she also gave birth to Tubal-cain, the forger of all implements of bronze and iron; and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.

23. ലാമെക് തന്റെ ഭാര്യമാരോടു പറഞ്ഞതുആദയും സില്ലയും ആയുള്ളോരേ, എന്റെ വാക്കു കേള്പ്പിന് ; ലാമെക്കിന് ഭാര്യമാരേ, എന്റെ വചനത്തിന്നു ചെവി തരുവിന് ! എന്റെ മുറിവിന്നു പകരം ഞാന് ഒരു പുരുഷനെയും, എന്റെ പരിക്കിന്നു പകരം ഒരു യുവാവിനെയും കൊല്ലും.

23. Lamech said to his wives, 'Adah and Zillah, Listen to my voice, You wives of Lamech, Give heed to my speech, For I have killed a man for wounding me; And a boy for striking me;

24. കയീന്നുവേണ്ടി ഏഴിരട്ടി പകരം ചെയ്യുമെങ്കില്, ലാമെക്കിന്നുവേണ്ടി എഴുപത്തേഴു ഇരട്ടി പകരം ചെയ്യും.

24. If Cain is avenged sevenfold, Then Lamech seventy-sevenfold.'

25. ആദാം തന്റെ ഭാര്യയെ പിന്നെയും പരിഗ്രഹിച്ചു; അവള് ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചുകയീന് കൊന്ന ഹാബെലിന്നു പകരം ദൈവം എനിക്കു മറ്റൊരു സന്തതിയെ തന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവന്നു ശേത്ത് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

25. Adam had relations with his wife again; and she gave birth to a son, and named him Seth, for, [she said], 'God has appointed me another offspring in place of Abel, for Cain killed him.'

26. ശേത്തിന്നും ഒരു മകന് ജനിച്ചു; അവന്നു എനോശ് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു. ആ കാലത്തു യഹോവയുടെ നാമത്തിലുള്ള ആരാധന തുടങ്ങി.

26. To Seth, to him also a son was born; and he called his name Enosh. Then [men] began to call upon the name of the LORD.
