1. മിസ്രയീമില് ധാന്യം ഉണ്ടെന്നു യാക്കോബ് അറിഞ്ഞപ്പോള് തന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരോടുനിങ്ങള് തമ്മില് തമ്മില് നോക്കിനിലക്കുന്നതു എന്തു?

1. When Jacob saw that there was corn to be sold in Egypt, he said unto his sons: why are ye negligent?

2. മിസ്രയീമില് ധാന്യം ഉണ്ടെന്നു ഞാന് കേട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; നാം മരിക്കാതെ ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവിടെ ചെന്നു അവിടെ നിന്നു നമുക്കു ധാന്യം കൊള്ളുവിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

2. behold, I have heard that there is corn to be sold in Egypt. Get you thither and buy us corn from thence, that we may live and not die.

3. So went Joseph's ten brethren down to buy corn in Egypt,

4. എന്നാല് യോസേഫിന്റെ അനുജനായ ബേന്യാമീന്നു പക്ഷേ വല്ല ആപത്തും ഭവിക്കും എന്നുവെച്ചു യാക്കോബ് അവനെ സഹോദരന്മാരോടുകൂടെ അയച്ചില്ല.

4. for Ben Jamin Joseph's brother would not Jacob send with his other brethren: for he said: some misfortune might happen him.

5. അങ്ങനെ ധാന്യം കൊള്ളുവാന് വന്നവരുടെ ഇടയില് യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരും വന്നു; കനാന് ദേശത്തും ക്ഷാമം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നുവല്ലോ.

5. And the sons of Israel came to buy corn among other that came, for there was dearth also in the land of Canaan.

6. യോസേഫ് ദേശത്തിന്നു അധിപതിയായിരുന്നു; അവന് തന്നേ ആയിരുന്നു ദേശത്തിലെ സകല ജനങ്ങള്ക്കും ധാന്യം വിറ്റതു; യോസേഫിന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരും വന്നു അവനെ സാഷ്ടാംഗം നമസ്കരിച്ചു.

6. And Joseph was governor in the land, and sold corn to all the people of the land. And his brethren came, and fell flat on the ground before him.

7. യോസഫ് തന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരെ കണ്ടാറെ അവരെ അറിഞ്ഞു എങ്കിലും അറിയാത്ത ഭാവം നടിച്ചു അവരോടു കഠിനമായി സംസാരിച്ചുനിങ്ങള് എവിടെ നിന്നു വരുന്നു എന്നു അവരോടു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുആഹാരം കൊള്ളുവാന് കനാന് ദെശത്തു നിന്നു വരുന്നു എന്നു അവര് പറഞ്ഞു.

7. When Joseph saw his brethren, he knew them: But made strange unto them, and spake roughly unto them saying: Whence come ye? and they said: out of the land of Canaan, to buy vitaille.

8. യേസേഫ് സഹോദരന്മാരെ അറിഞ്ഞു എങ്കിലും അവര് അവനെ അറിഞ്ഞില്ല.

8. Joseph knew his brethren, but they knew not him.

9. യോസേഫ് അവരെക്കുറിച്ചു കണ്ടിരുന്ന സ്വപ്നങ്ങള് ഔര്ത്തു അവരോടുനിങ്ങള് ഒറ്റുകാരാകുന്നു; ദേശത്തിന്റെ ദുര്ബ്ബലഭാഗം നോക്കുവാന് നിങ്ങള് വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. And Joseph remembered his dreams which he dreamed of them, and said unto them: ye are spies, and to see where the land is weak is your coming.

10. അവര് അവനോടുഅല്ല, യജമാനനേ, അടിയങ്ങള് ആഹാരം കൊള്ളുവാന് വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു;

10. And they said unto him: nay, my lord: but to buy vitaille thy servants are come.

11. ഞങ്ങള് എല്ലാവരും ഒരാളുടെ മക്കള്; ഞങ്ങള് പരമാര്ത്ഥികളാകുന്നു; അടിയങ്ങള് ഒറ്റുകാരല്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

11. We are all one man's sons, and mean truly, and thy servants are no spies.

12. അവന് അവരോടുഅല്ല, നിങ്ങള് ദേശത്തിന്റെ ദുര്ബ്ബലഭാഗം നോക്കുവാന് വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

12. And he said unto them: nay verily, but even to see where the land is weak is your coming.

13. അതിന്നു അവര്അടിയങ്ങള് കനാന് ദേശത്തുള്ള ഒരാളുടെ മക്കള്; പന്ത്രണ്ടു സഹോദരന്മാര് ആകുന്നു; ഇളയവന് ഇന്നു ഞങ്ങളുടെ അപ്പന്റെ അടുക്കല് ഉണ്ടു; ഒരുത്തന് ഇപ്പോള് ഇല്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

13. And they said: we thy servants are twelve brethren, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan. The youngest is yet with our father, and one no man woteth where he is.

14. യോസേഫ് അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞതുഞാന് പറഞ്ഞതുപോലെ നിങ്ങള് ഒറ്റുകാര് തന്നേ.

14. Joseph said unto them, that is it that I said unto you, that ye are surely spies.

15. ഇതിനാല് ഞാന് നിങ്ങളെ പരീക്ഷിക്കും; നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇളയസഹോദരന് ഇവിടെ വന്നല്ലാതെ, ഫറവോനാണ, നിങ്ങള് ഇവിടെനിന്നു പുറപ്പെടുകയില്ല.

15. Here by ye shall be proved. For by the life of Pharao, ye shall not go hence, until your youngest brother be come hither.

16. നിങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരനെ കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുവരുവാന് നിങ്ങളില് ഒരുത്തനെ അയപ്പിന് ; നിങ്ങളോ ബദ്ധന്മാരായിരിക്കേണം; നിങ്ങള് നേരുള്ളവരോ എന്നു നിങ്ങളുടെ വാക്കു പരീക്ഷിച്ചറിയാമല്ലോ; അല്ലെന്നുവരികില്; ഫറവോനാണ, നിങ്ങള് ഒറ്റുകാര് തന്നേ.

16. Send therefore one of you and let him fetch your brother, and ye shall be in prison in the mean season. And thereby shall your words be proved, whether there be any truth in you: or else by the life of Pharao, ye are but spies.

17. അങ്ങനെ അവന് അവരെ മൂന്നു ദിവസം തടവില് ആക്കി.

17. And he put them in ward three days.

18. മൂന്നാം ദിവസം യോസേഫ് അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞതുഞാന് ദൈവത്തെ ഭയപ്പെടുന്നു; നിങ്ങള് ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഇതു ചെയ്വിന്

18. And Joseph said unto the third day: This do and live, for I fear God.(Gode)

19. നിങ്ങള് പരമാര്ത്ഥികള് എങ്കില് നിങ്ങളുടെ ഒരു സഹോദരന് കരാഗൃഹത്തില് കിടക്കട്ടെ; നിങ്ങള് പുറപ്പെട്ടു, നിങ്ങളുടെ വീടുകളിലെ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടിന്നു ധാന്യം കൊണ്ടുപോകുവിന് .

19. If ye mean no hurt, let one of your brethren be bound in the prison, and go ye and bring the necessary food unto your households,

20. എന്നാല് നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇളയസഹോദരനെ എന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവരേണം; അതിനാല് നിങ്ങളുടെ വാക്കു നേരെന്നു തെളിയും; നിങ്ങള് മരിക്കേണ്ടിവരികയില്ല; അവര് അങ്ങനെ സമ്മതിച്ചു.

20. and bring your youngest brother unto me: that your words may be believed, and that ye die not; And they did so.

21. Then they said one to another: we have verily sinned against our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul when he besought us, and would not hear him: therefore is this trouble come upon us.

22. അതിന്നു രൂബേന് ബാലനോടു ദോഷം ചെയ്യരുതെന്നും ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു പറഞ്ഞില്ലയോ? എന്നിട്ടും നിങ്ങള് കേട്ടില്ല; ഇപ്പോള് ഇതാ, അവന്റെ രക്തം നമ്മോടു ചോദിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

22. Ruben answered them saying: said I not unto you that ye should not sin against the lad? but ye would not hear; And now verily see, his blood is required.

23. യോസേഫ് അവരോടു സംസാരിച്ചതു ദ്വിഭാഷിമുഖാന്തരം ആയിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവന് ഇതു ഗ്രഹിച്ചു എന്നു അവര് അറിഞ്ഞില്ല.

23. They were not aware that Joseph understood them, for he spake unto them by an interpreter.

24. അവന് അവരെ വിട്ടു മാറിപ്പോയി കരഞ്ഞു; പിന്നെ അവരുടെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു അവരോടു സംസാരിച്ചു അവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് നിന്നു ശിമെയോനെ പിടിച്ചു അവര് കാണ്കെ ബന്ധിച്ചു.

24. And he turned from them and wept, and then turned to them again and communed with them, and took out Simeon from among them and bound him before their eyes,

25. അവരുടെ ചാക്കില് ധാന്യം നിറെപ്പാനും അവരുടെ ദ്രവ്യം അവനവന്റെ ചാക്കില് തിരികെ വെപ്പാനും വഴിക്കു വേണ്ടിയ ആഹാരം അവര്ക്കും കൊടുപ്പാനും യോസേഫ് കല്പിച്ചു; അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ അവര്ക്കും ചെയ്തുകൊടുത്തു.

25. and commanded to fill their sacks with corn, and to put every man's money in his sack, and to give them vitaille to spend by the way. And so it was done to them.

26. അവര് ധാന്യം കഴുതപ്പുറത്തു കയറ്റി അവിടെനിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു.

26. And they laded their asses with the corn and departed thence.

27. വഴിയമ്പലത്തില്വെച്ചു അവരില് ഒരുത്തന് കഴുതെക്കു തീന് കൊടുപ്പാന് ചാകൂ അഴിച്ചപ്പോള് തന്റെ ദ്രവ്യം ചാക്കിന്റെ വായ്ക്കല് ഇരിക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു,

27. And as one of them opened his sack, for to give his ass provender in the Inn, he spied his money in his sack's mouth.

28. തന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരോടുഎന്റെ ദ്രവ്യം എനിക്കു തിരികെ കിട്ടി അതു ഇതാ, എന്റെ ചാക്കില് ഇരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അപ്പോള് അവരുടെ ഉള്ളം തളര്ന്നു, അവര് വിറെച്ചുദൈവം നമ്മോടു ഈ ചെയ്തതു എന്തെന്നു തമ്മില് തമ്മില് പറഞ്ഞു.

28. And he said unto his brethren: my money is restored me again, and is even in my sack's mouth. Then their hearts failed them, and were astonied and said one to another: how cometh it that God dealeth thus with us?

29. അവര് കനാന് ദേശത്തു തങ്ങളുടെ അപ്പനായ യാക്കോബിന്റെ അടുക്കല് എത്തിയാറെ, തങ്ങള്ക്കു സംഭവിച്ചതു ഒക്കെയും അവനോടു അറിയിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞതു

29. And they came unto Jacob their father unto the land of Canaan, and told him all that had happened them saying:

30. ദേശത്തിലെ അധിപതിയായവന് ഞങ്ങള് ദേശത്തെ ഒറ്റുനോക്കുന്നവര് എന്നു വിചാരിച്ചു ഞങ്ങളോടു കഠിനമായി സംസാരിച്ചു.

30. The lord of the land spake roughly to us, and took us for spies to search the country.

31. ഞങ്ങള് അവനോടുഞങ്ങള് പരാമാര്ത്ഥികളാകുന്നു, ഞങ്ങള് ഒറ്റുകാരല്ല.

31. And we said unto him: we mean truly and are no spies.

32. ഞങ്ങള് ഒരു അപ്പന്റെ മക്കള്; പന്ത്രണ്ടു സഹോരന്മാരാകുന്നു; ഒരുത്തന് ഇപ്പോള് ഇല്ല; ഇളയവന് കനാന് ദേശത്തു ഞങ്ങളുടെ അപ്പന്റെ അടുക്കല് ഉണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

32. We be twelve brethren sons of our father, one is away, and the youngest is now with our father in the land of Canaan.

33. അതിന്നു ദേശത്തിലെ അധിപതിയായവന് ഞങ്ങളോടു പറഞ്ഞതുനിങ്ങള് പരമാര്ത്ഥികള് എന്നു ഞാന് ഇതിനാല് അറിയുംനിങ്ങളുടെ ഒരു സഹോദരനെ എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വിട്ടേച്ചു നിങ്ങളുടെ വീടുകളിലെ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടിന്നു ധാന്യം വാങ്ങി കൊണ്ടുപോകുവിന് .

33. And the lord of the country said unto us: hereby shall I know if ye mean truly: leave one of your brethren here with me, and take food necessary for your households and get you away,

34. നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇളയസഹോദരനെ എന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവരുവിന് ; അതിനാല് നിങ്ങള് ഒറ്റുകാരല്ല, പരമാര്ത്ഥികള് തന്നേ എന്നു ഞാന് അറിയും; നിങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരനെ നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ഏല്പിച്ചുതരും; നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ദേശത്തു വ്യാപാരവും ചെയ്യാം.

34. and bring your youngest brother unto me; And thereby shall I know that ye are no spies, but mean truly: So will I deliver you your brother again, and ye shall occupy in the land.

35. പിന്നെ അവര് ചാകൂ ഒഴിക്കുമ്പോള് ഇതാ, ഔരോരുത്തന്റെ ചാക്കില് അവനവന്റെ പണക്കെട്ടു ഇരിക്കുന്നു; അവരും അവരുടെ അപ്പനും പണക്കെട്ടു കണ്ടാറെ ഭയപ്പെട്ടുപോയി.

35. And as they emptied their sacks, behold: every man's bundle of money was in his sack. And when both they and their father saw the bundles of money, they were afraid.

36. അവരുടെ അപ്പനായ യാക്കോബ് അവരോടുനിങ്ങള് എന്നെ മക്കളില്ലാത്തവനാക്കുന്നു; യോസേഫ് ഇല്ല, ശിമെയോന് ഇല്ല; ബെന്യാമീനെയും നിങ്ങള് കൊണ്ടുപോകും; സകലവും എനിക്കു പ്രതിക്കുലം തന്നേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

36. And Jacob their father said unto them: Me have ye robbed of my children: Joseph is away, and Simeon is away, and ye will take Ben Jamin away. All these things fall upon me.

37. അതിന്നു രൂബേന് അപ്പനോടുഎന്റെ കയ്യില് അവനെ ഏല്പിക്ക; ഞാന് അവനെ നിന്റെ അടുക്കല് മടക്കി കൊണ്ടുവരും; ഞാന് അവനെ നിന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവരാത്തപക്ഷം എന്റെ രണ്ടു പുത്രന്മാരെ കൊന്നുകളക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

37. Ruben answered his father saying: Slay my two sons, if I bring him not to thee again. Deliver him therefore to my hand, and I will bring him to thee again:

38. എന്നാല് അവന് എന്റെ മകന് നിങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ പോരികയില്ല; അവന്റെ ജ്യോഷ്ഠന് മരിച്ചുപോയി, അവന് ഒരുത്തനേ ശേഷിപ്പുള്ളു; നിങ്ങള് പോകുന്ന വഴിയില് അവന്നു വല്ല ആപത്തും വന്നാല് നിങ്ങള് എന്റെ നരയെ ദുഃഖത്തോടെ പാതാളത്തിലേക്കു ഇറങ്ങുമാറാക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

38. And he said: my son shall not go down with you. For his brother is dead, and he is left alone. Moreover some misfortune might happen upon him by the way which ye go. And so should ye bring my gray head with sorrow unto the grave.
