1. The time came for David to die, so he gave these commands to Solomon,

2. I am about to die, like all men must. But you are growing stronger and becoming a man.

3. Now, carefully obey all the commands of the Lord your God. Carefully obey all his laws, commands, decisions, and agreements. Obey everything that is written in the Law of Moses. If you do this, you will be successful at whatever you do and wherever you go.

4. മോശെയുടെ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തില് എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയുടെ വഴികളില് നടന്നു അവന്റെ ചട്ടങ്ങളും കല്പനകളും വിധികളും സാക്ഷ്യങ്ങളും പ്രമാണിച്ചുംകൊണ്ടു അവന്റെ ആജ്ഞ അനുസരിച്ചുകൊള്ക.

4. And if you obey the Lord, he will keep his promise about me. He said, 'If your sons carefully live the way I tell them, sincerely, with all their heart, the king of Israel will always be a man from your family.''

5. David also said, 'You remember what Joab son of Zeruiah did to me. He killed two of the commanders of Israel's army, Abner son of Ner and Amasa son of Jether. Remember, it was during a time of peace when he spilled the blood that splattered onto his sword belt and army boots. I should have punished him then.

6. Use your wisdom, but don't let him die peacefully of old age.

7. Also, be kind to the children of Barzillai from Gilead. Be friends with them, and let them eat at your table, because they helped me when I ran away from your brother Absalom.

8. 'And remember, Shimei son of Gera is still around. He is the Benjamite from Bahurim who cursed me when I ran away to Mahanaim. But when he came down to meet me at the Jordan River, I made a promise to him before the Lord that I would not kill him.

9. എന്നാല് നീ അവനെ ശിക്ഷിക്കാതെ വിടരുതു; നീ ബുദ്ധിമാനല്ലോ; അവനോടു എന്തു ചെയ്യേണമെന്നു നീ അറിയും; അവന്റെ നരയെ രക്തത്തോടെ പാതാളത്തിലേക്കു അയക്കുക.

9. Now, don't leave him unpunished. You are a wise man. You will know what you must do, but don't let him die peacefully of old age.'

10. Then David died and was buried in the City of David.

11. David ruled Israel 40 years. He ruled seven years in Hebron and 33 years in Jerusalem.

12. ശലോമോന് തന്റെ അപ്പനായ ദാവീദിന്റെ സിംഹാസനത്തില് ഇരുന്നു; അവന്റെ രാജത്വം ഏറ്റവും സ്ഥിരമായിവന്നു.

12. Now Solomon was king. He sat on the throne of his father David and was in complete control of his kingdom.

13. One day Adonijah, the son of Haggith, went to Solomon's mother, Bathsheba. She asked him, 'Do you come in peace?' Adonijah answered, 'Yes, this is a peaceful visit.

14. I have something to ask you.' Bathsheba said, 'Then speak.'

15. Adonijah said, 'You know that at one time the kingdom was mine. All the people of Israel wanted me to be their king. But things have changed, and now my brother is the king. The Lord chose him to be king.

16. But now I have one thing to ask you. Please don't refuse me.' Bathsheba answered, 'What do you want?'

17. Adonijah said, 'I know that King Solomon will do whatever you ask. So please ask him to let me marry Abishag, the woman from Shunem.'

18. ആകട്ടെ; ഞാന് നിനക്കുവേണ്ടി രാജാവിനോടു സംസാരിക്കാം എന്നു ബത്ത്-ശേബ പറഞ്ഞു.

18. Then Bathsheba said, 'Very well, I will speak to the king for you.'

19. അങ്ങനെ ബത്ത്-ശേബ അദോനീയാവിന്നുവേണ്ടി ശലോമോന് രാജാവിനോടു സംസാരിപ്പാന് അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു. രാജാവു എഴുന്നേറ്റു അവളെ എതിരേറ്റുചെന്നു വന്ദനം ചെയ്തു തന്റെ സിംഹാസനത്തില് ഇരുന്നു രാജമാതാവിന്നു ഇരിപ്പാന് കൊടുപ്പിച്ചു; അവള് അവന്റെ വലത്തുഭാഗത്തു ഇരുന്നു.

19. So Bathsheba went to King Solomon to talk with him. When Solomon saw her, he stood up, bowed before her, and then sat back down. He told some servants to bring another throne for his mother, and she sat down at his right side.

20. Bathsheba said to him, 'I have one small thing to ask you. Please don't refuse me.' The king answered, 'Ask whatever you want, mother. I will not refuse you.'

21. അപ്പോള് അവള്ശൂനേംകാരത്തിയായ അബീശഗിനെ നിന്റെ സഹോദരനായ അദോനീയാവിന്നു ഭാര്യയായിട്ടു കൊടുക്കേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

21. So Bathsheba said, 'Let your brother Adonijah marry Abishag, the woman from Shunem.'

22. ശലോമോന് രാജാവു തന്റെ അമ്മയോടുശൂനേംകാരത്തിയായ അബീശഗിനെ അദോനീയാവിന്നു വേണ്ടി ചോദിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു? രാജത്വത്തെയും അവന്നുവേണ്ടി ചോദിക്കരുതോ? അവന് എന്റെ ജ്യേഷ്ഠനല്ലോ; അവന്നും പുരോഹിതന് അബ്യാഥാരിന്നും സെരൂയയുടെ മകന് യോവാബിന്നും വേണ്ടി തന്നേ എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

22. King Solomon answered his mother, 'Why are you asking me to give Abishag to Adonijah? Why don't you just ask me to give him the whole kingdom! After all, he is my older brother, and both Abiathar the priest and Joab support him!'

23. അദോനീയാവു ഈ കാര്യം ചോദിച്ചതു തന്റെ ജീവനാശത്തിന്നായിട്ടല്ലെങ്കില് ദൈവം തക്കവണ്ണവും അധികവും എന്നോടു ചെയ്യട്ടെ;

23. Then Solomon said, 'By the Lord, I swear I'll make Adonijah pay for this with his life!

24. ആകയാല് എന്നെ സ്ഥിരപ്പെടുത്തിയവനും എന്നെ എന്റെ അപ്പനായ ദാവീദിന്റെ സിംഹാസനത്തില് ഇരുത്തി തന്റെ വാഗ്ദാനപ്രകാരം എനിക്കു ഒരു ഗൃഹം പണിതവനുമായ യഹോവയാണ, ഇന്നു തന്നേ അദോനീയാവു മരിക്കേണം എന്നു ശലോമോന് രാജാവു കല്പിച്ചു യഹോവനാമത്തില് സത്യം ചെയ്തു.

24. The Lord made me the king of Israel. He gave me the throne of my father David. The Lord kept his promise and gave the kingdom to me and my family. Now, as surely as the Lord lives, I swear Adonijah will die today!'

25. പിന്നെ ശലോമോന് രാജാവു യെഹോയാദയുടെ മകനായ ബെനായാവെ അയച്ചു; അവന് അവനെ വെട്ടിക്കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു.

25. King Solomon gave the command to Benaiah, and Benaiah went out and killed Adonijah.

26. അബ്യാഥാര്പുരോഹിതനോടു രാജാവുനീ അനാഥോത്തിലെ നിന്റെ ജന്മഭൂമിയിലേക്കു പൊയ്ക്കൊള്ക; നീ മരണയോഗ്യനാകുന്നു; എങ്കിലും നീ എന്റെ അപ്പനായ ദാവീദിന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ കര്ത്താവായ യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകം ചുമന്നതുകൊണ്ടും എന്റെ അപ്പന് അനുഭവിച്ച സകലകഷ്ടങ്ങളെയും നീ കൂടെ അനുഭവിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടും ഞാന് ഇന്നു നിന്നെ കൊല്ലുന്നില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

26. Then King Solomon said to Abiathar the priest, 'I should kill you, but I will let you go back to your home in Anathoth. I will not kill you now because you helped carry the Holy Box of the Lord while marching with my father David. And I know that you shared in the hard times with my father.'

27. ഇങ്ങനെ യഹോവ ശീലോവില്വെച്ചു ഏലിയുടെ കുടുംബത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു അരുളിച്ചെയ്ത വചനത്തിന്നു നിവൃത്തിവരേണ്ടതിന്നു ശലോമോന് അബ്യാഥാരിനെ യഹോവയുടെ പൌരോഹിത്യത്തില്നിന്നു നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

27. So Solomon told Abiathar that he could not continue to serve as a priest of the Lord. This happened as the Lord said it would when he told Eli the priest what would happen to him and his family.

28. ഈ വര്ത്തമാനം യോവാബിന്നു എത്തിയപ്പോള്--യോവാബ് അബ്ശാലോമിന്റെ പക്ഷം ചേര്ന്നിരുന്നില്ലെങ്കിലും അദോനീയാവിന്റെ പക്ഷം ചേര്ന്നിരുന്നു--അവന് യഹോവയുടെ കൂടാരത്തില് ഔടിച്ചെന്നു യാഗപീഠത്തിന്റെ കൊമ്പുകളെ പിടിച്ചു.

28. Joab had supported Adonijah, but not Absalom. But when Joab heard what happened to Abiathar, he was frightened and ran to the tent of the Lord to hold onto the horns of the altar.

29. യോവാബ് യഹോവയുടെ കൂടാരത്തില് ഔടിച്ചെന്നു യാഗപീഠത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കല് നിലക്കുന്നു എന്നു ശലോമോന് രാജാവിന്നു അറിവുകിട്ടി. അപ്പോള് ശലോമോന് യെഹോയാദയുടെ മകനായ ബെനായാവെ അയച്ചുനീ ചെന്നു അവനെ വെട്ടിക്കളക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

29. Someone told King Solomon that Joab was at the altar in the Lord's Tent. So Solomon ordered Benaiah to go and kill him.

30. ബെനായാവു യെഹോവയുടെ കൂടാരത്തില് ചെന്നുനീ പുറത്തുവരിക എന്നു രാജാവു കല്പിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞു. ഇല്ല; ഞാന് ഇവിടെ തന്നെ മരിക്കും എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു. ബെനായാവു ചെന്നുയോവാബ് ഇങ്ങനെ പറയുന്നു; ഇങ്ങനെ അവന് എന്നോടു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു എന്നു രാജാവിനെ ബോധിപ്പിച്ചു.

30. Benaiah went into the Lord's Tent and said to Joab, 'The king says, 'Come out!'' But Joab answered, 'No, I will die here.' Benaiah went back to the king and told him what Joab had said.

31. രാജാവു അവനോടു കല്പിച്ചതുഅവന് പറഞ്ഞതുപോലെ നീ ചെയ്ക; അവനെ വെട്ടിക്കൊന്നു കുഴിച്ചിടുക; യോവാബ് കാരണം കൂടാതെ ചിന്നിയ രക്തം നീ ഇങ്ങനെ എങ്കല് നിന്നും എന്റെ പിതൃഭവനത്തിങ്കല്നിന്നും നീക്കിക്കളക.

31. The king commanded Benaiah, 'Do as he says! Kill him there and take him out to bury him. Then my family and I will be free of Joab's guilt from killing innocent people.

32. അവന്റെ രക്തപാതകം യഹോവ അവന്റെ തലമേല് തന്നേ വരുത്തും; യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ സേനാധിപതിയായ നേരിന്റെ മകന് അബ്നേര്, യെഹൂദയുടെ സേനാധിപതിയായ യേഥെരിന്റെ മകന് അമാസാ എന്നിങ്ങനെ തന്നെക്കാള് നീതിയും സല്ഗുണവുമുള്ള രണ്ടു പുരുഷന്മാരെ അവന് എന്റെ അപ്പനായ ദാവീദ് അറിയാതെ വാള്കൊണ്ടു വെട്ടിക്കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞുവല്ലോ.

32. Joab killed two men who were much better than he was. He killed Abner son of Ner, the commander of the army of Israel, and Amasa son of Jether, the commander of the army of Judah. He did this without my father's knowledge. But now the Lord will punish Joab for the men he killed.

33. അവരുടെ രക്തം എന്നേക്കും യോവാബിന്റെയും അവന്റെ സന്തതിയുടെയും തലമേല് ഇരിക്കും; ദാവീദിന്നും അവന്റെ സന്തതിക്കും ഗൃഹത്തിന്നും സിംഹാസനത്തിന്നും യഹോവയിങ്കല്നിന്നു എന്നേക്കും സമാധാനം ഉണ്ടാകും.

33. He and his family will always be guilty for their deaths. But the Lord will bring peace to David, his descendants, his family of kings, and his kingdom forever.'

34. അങ്ങനെ യെഹോയാദയുടെ മകനായ ബെനായാവു ചെന്നു അവനെ വെട്ടിക്കൊന്നു; മരുഭൂമിയിലെ അവന്റെ വീട്ടില് അവനെ അടക്കംചെയ്തു.

34. So Benaiah son of Jehoiada killed Joab, and he was buried near his home in the desert.

35. രാജാവു അവന്നു പകരം യെഹോയാദയുടെ മകനായ ബെനായാവെ സേനാധിപതിയാക്കി അബ്യാഥാരിന്നു പകരം സാദോക് പുരോഹിതനെയും നിയമിച്ചു.

35. Solomon then made Benaiah son of Jehoiada the commander of the army in Joab's place. Solomon also made Zadok the new high priest in Abiathar's place.

36. പിന്നെ രാജാവു ആളയച്ചു ശിമെയിയെ വരുത്തി അവനോടുനീ യെരൂശലേമില് നിനക്കു ഒരു വീടു പണിതു പാര്ത്തുകൊള്ക; അവിടെനിന്നു പുറത്തെങ്ങും പോകരുതു.

36. Next, the king sent for Shimei and said to him, 'Build yourself a house here in Jerusalem to live in and don't leave the city.

37. പുറത്തിറങ്ങി കിദ്രോന് തോടു കടക്കുന്ന നാളില് നീ മരിക്കേണ്ടിവരും എന്നു തീര്ച്ചയായി അറിഞ്ഞുകൊള്ക; നിന്റെ രക്തം നിന്റെ തലമേല് തന്നേ ഇരിക്കും എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

37. If you leave the city and go any further than Kidron Brook, you will be killed, and it will be your own fault.'

38. ശിമെയി രാജാവിനോടുഅതു നല്ലവാക്കു; യജമാനനായ രാജാവു കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ അടിയന് ചെയ്തുകൊള്ളാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ ശിമെയി കുറെക്കാലം യെരൂശലേമില് പാര്ത്തു.

38. Shimei answered, 'Yes, my king. I will obey you.' So Shimei lived in Jerusalem for a long time.

39. മൂന്നു സംവത്സരം കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോള് ശിമെയിയുടെ രണ്ടു അടിമകള് മാഖയുടെ മകനായ ആഖീശ് എന്ന ഗത്ത്രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ഔടിപ്പോയി; തന്റെ അടിമകള് ഗത്തില് ഉണ്ടെന്നു ശിമെയിക്കു അറിവുകിട്ടി.

39. But three years later, two of Shimei's slaves ran away. They went to King Achish of Gath, who was the son of Maacah. Shimei heard that his slaves were in Gath,

40. അപ്പോള് ശിമെയി എഴുന്നേറ്റു കഴുതെക്കു കോപ്പിട്ടു പുറപ്പെട്ടു അടിമകളെ അന്വേഷിപ്പാന് ഗത്തില് ആഖീശിന്റെ അടുക്കല് പോയി; അങ്ങനെ ശിമെയി ചെന്നു അടിമകളെ ഗത്തില്നിന്നു കൊണ്ടു വന്നു.

40. so he saddled his donkey and went to King Achish at Gath to find them. He found them there and brought them back home.

41. ശിമെയി യെരൂശലേം വിട്ടു ഗത്തില് പോയി മടങ്ങിവന്നു എന്നു ശലോമോന്നു അറിവുകിട്ടി.

41. But someone told Solomon that Shimei had left Jerusalem and gone to Gath and back.

42. അപ്പോള് രാജാവു ആളയച്ചു ശിമെയിയെ വരുത്തി അവനോടുനീ പുറത്തിറങ്ങി എവിടെയെങ്കിലും പോകുന്നനാളില് മരിക്കേണ്ടിവരുമെന്നു തീര്ച്ചയായി അറിഞ്ഞുകൊള്ക എന്നു ഞാന് നിന്നെക്കൊണ്ടു യഹോവാനാമത്തില് സത്യം ചെയ്യിച്ചു സാക്ഷീകരിക്കയും ഞാന് കേട്ട വാക്കു നല്ലതെന്നു നീ എന്നോടു പറകയും ചെയ്തില്ലയോ?

42. So Solomon sent for him and said, 'I made you promise in the Lord's name not to leave Jerusalem. And I warned you that if you went out anywhere you would die. And you agreed to what I said. You said that you would obey me.

43. അങ്ങനെയിരിക്കെ നീ യഹോവയുടെ ആണയും ഞാന് നിന്നോടു കല്പിച്ച കല്പനയും പ്രമാണിക്കാതെ ഇരുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

43. So why didn't you obey me? Why did you break your promise?

44. പിന്നെ രാജാവു ശിമെയിയോടുനീ എന്റെ അപ്പനായ ദാവീദിനോടു ചെയ്തതും നിനക്കു ഔര്മ്മയുള്ളതും ആയ ദോഷമൊക്കെയും നീ അറിയുന്നുവല്ലോ; യഹോവ നിന്റെ ദോഷം നിന്റെ തലമേല് തന്നേ വരുത്തും.

44. You know all the bad things you did to my father David. Now the Lord will punish you for it.

45. എന്നാല് ശലോമോന് രാജാവു അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടവനും ദാവീദിന്റെ സിംഹാസനം യഹോവയുടെ മുമ്പാകെ എന്നേക്കും സ്ഥിരവുമായിരിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞിട്ടു

45. But the Lord will bless me and keep David's throne before him forever.'

46. രാജാവു യെഹോയാദയുടെ മകന് ബെനായാവോടു കല്പിച്ചു; അവന് ചെന്നു അവനെ വെട്ടിക്കൊന്നു. അങ്ങനെ രാജത്വം ശലോമോന്റെ കയ്യില് സ്ഥിരമായി.
